The play-offs it is, and after a long wait, it is Charnock Richard we face on Tuesday night for a place in Saturday’s final against either Wythenshawe Town or Padiham. With over 3,500 tickets gone and the South Stand almost sold out, it is going to be a cracker under the mid-Spring lights at Gigg Lane. Get on down to cheer the lads on, you can be the difference.
It has been a long old wait since our game at Ramsbottom on the final game of the season, however tonight’s visitors have fitted in an extra four games in seven days, winning all four and seizing a place in the end of season showdown in the process.
No doubt the Greens will be heading to Gigg Lane full of confidence, on the back of a good run and having been undefeated against the Shakers in all four encounters this season so far. The last game was in a completely different setting however, with Charnock visiting an empty Gigg Lane and left with a 2-2 draw as we saw out the second game of a two-game stadium ban.
But we can expect a fiery atmosphere, as manager Dave McNabb is looking for a fast start and explaining that the lads go into the game in good spirits in his pre-match video which can be found below.
In the event of a draw after 90 minutes, we go straight to penalties this evening!
We have all four-sides of the ground open for the first time since 2019 for this clash, with no availability in the Main Stand, and South Stand set to be ticket only. Pay-on-the-gate turnstiles will be available in the Cemetery End. Get all your match information below.

In Opposition – Charnock Richard
In 1933 the Chorley Sunday League became the Chorley Alliance League and a Charnock Richard village team was entered, but on the outbreak of the Second World War the league and team were temporarily suspended.
At the end of the War, in 1945, the Chorley Alliance League was reformed along with Charnock Richard F.C. The team proved to be a tremendous success, eventually winning the league title in the 1947-48 season, losing only two games, and scoring 107 goals. This success prompted them to try and run two teams, but they ran into difficulties and the club closed at the end of the 1948-49 season.
In 1955, under the leadership of Ron Wilcox, the present club was reformed, and once again played in the Chorley Alliance League.
Charnock progressed to the North West Counties League in 2016-17 after finishing as runners-up in the West Lancashire League in the previous season and won promotion to the Premier Division of the NWCL in the first season when finishing runners up in Division 1. In the 21-22 season the club won the North West Counties League, League Challenge Cup.
Last season, Charnock finished 11th in NWCFL Premier Division, making the play-offs this season with six straight wins, scoring 18 and conceding only two. Widemen, Nathan Nickeas and Rustam Stepans are ones to watch with 30 and 24 goals respectively this season.

Parking: Our car-park policy is now in force. Due to the limited space within the car park at Gigg Lane, it is reserved for the following:

Entrance to the car park is strictly controlled and includes the areas within and in front of the fenced area. Please contact the Club Secretary with any other related queries.
There is on-street parking in the residential areas surrounding Gigg Lane, with supporters reminded to be respectful and considerate of the local residents at all times, as well as being mindful of and adhering to the parking permit measures in place in close proximity to the ground.
Stadium Entry: Gates will open at 6:30pm.
Our matchday volunteers will be on hand, both outside the turnstiles and inside the ground, to guide supporters to where they need to be. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask those who are there to help the day.
Matchday Programme: You can purchase a programme online now, to collect at the merchandise stall ahead of the game or head to the sellers in and around the ground. Price of £3.
Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
Food / Drink: Our catering partner, Quirky Catering, operate the kiosks throughout the ground, and are accessible for supporters under the stands. A selection of hot and cold snacks will be available, with the Bombay Away truck also situated outside the ground for any early arrivals looking to grab a bite to eat before heading into the ground.
Starkies bar Starkies: For those with tickets in the Main Stand, access to Starkies will be available from when the gates open. The bar is limited to a set number and this will be managed by stewards through the day.
After the game, supporters from other areas of the ground can gain access to Starkies via the ground floor entrance in that corner of the ground – subject to the maximum capacity not being exceeded.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.
Designated Smoking Areas: Supporters are not allowed to smoke / vape anywhere within the stands at Gigg Lane. Designated areas are set aside to do this, follow guidance from stewards on this and only smoke / vape within these areas.
#NonLeagueDogs: For now, dogs are NOT permitted in the ground.

After the weather put paid to a mid-week top-of-the-table clash against Wythenshawe, attention turned to Park Road this weekend as we take on Cheadle Town this Saturday.
And a repeat of last Saturday’s performance, will do nicely if Dave McNabb’s charges can put another show for the travelling faithful. Two goals each from Andy Briggs and newly-crowned league player of the month, Dec Daniels, alongside a return to the goalscoring charts for Andy Scarisbrick and another goal for youngster Joe Hobson resulted in a 6-0 hammering at Litherland Sports Park. Highlights can be found below.
The win kept up the pace in the league, with both Wythenshawe’s winning also, the race for top spot continues to hot up. The increase in the temperature for the league can be directly linked to the drop off in air temperature nationwide, with many games impacted by the freezing conditions over weekend and then the snow that came in to follow.
The low temperatures are set to continue until Friday, with a hope of improvement in time for the game. Keep across our social media profiles in the run up to kick-off for the latest up-to-date information.

‘Playing Away’ – Episode Six

The club was established in 1961 (as Grasmere Rovers), playing U16s Sunday league football in the Manchester & District League, developing up to U21s and winning their first championship in 1968, with a Premier Division title two seasons later.
The club made the step up into Saturday football by entering the Manchester League in 1972, moving in Park Road Stadium ten years later. A year later and now known by its current name, the club joined the newly-formed NWCFL.
One promotion to the top tier of the leagues was achieved in 1996, which they relinquished in 2001. With hopes high for a return to the top flight last season, the club achieved that under the stewardship of current manager Paul Marshall with a 3-1 play-off win against Sandbach United last summer.
Town have had a tough start to life back in the Premier Division and lie in 20th going into the weekend, with nine wins and four draws from 27 games so far. A run of four losses at the end of December has been improved upon with back-to-back wins as we’ve entered 2024, winning 5-0 and 3-1 respectively at Barlick and AFC Liverpool.

If you are travelling clockwise on the M60…. Leave the motorway at junction 3 (signposted A34 Congleton) and follow the slip road. You will come to a set of lights at the end of the slip road (just before you join the A34) and then again at a main crossroads shortly afterwards. Turn left here. Follow this road (the A560) and go straight ahead at the next set of lights, taking you through Cheadle village with The White Hart pub and St Mary’s Church on the left.
At the next set of lights at the end of Cheadle village – where the George & Dragon pub is on the right – bear right and follow the road. You will pass a BP petrol station on your left. You will need to turn right immediately after the small park on your right. This is Park Road. The ground is at the bottom of the road past the cemetery gates.
If you are travelling anti-clockwise on the M60…. Leave the motorway at junction 2 (signposted A560 Cheadle) and follow the slip road to the end – a roundabout – where you will need to turn right. Get in the right-hand lane as you approach the traffic lights and go straight on, taking the first left after the row of shops. This is Park Road. The ground is at the bottom of the road past the cemetery gates.
Parking: There is limited parking on Park Road itself and visitors are kindly asked NOT to park on the same side of the street as the houses. Please park on the opposite side of the road. We recommend driving down to the cemetery gates on arrival, turning around and heading back up Park Road before finding a space to park – that way you are “pointing in the right direction” for when you leave at the end of the match.
If parking is unavailable on Park Road then you can try one of the side streets off Councillor Lane or Stockport Road (A560) and take the short walk to the ground.
For evening kick-offs all visitors to Cheadle Town FC are kindly asked to respect our neighbours that live on Park Road and return to their vehicles quietly after the match.
Nearest Railway: Gatley (1.4 miles) / Stockport (2.4 miles)
Nearest Bus Route to Ground: The 11, 11A and 310 all pass the end of Park Road. Ask for Councillor Lane, Cheadle. All of these services depart from Stockport Bus Station and are relatively frequent.
On the day: The clubhouse will be serving hot and cold drinks and alcoholic beverages on match day. The newly opened ‘Town Cafe’ offers an variety of hot and cold snacks. The Main Stand offers seating and standing that is sheltered from the elements. Toilets are located inside the clubhouse

This weekend, attention turns to Cheadle Town Stingers, in a tough fixture away from home.
Our 3-1 victory in the League last weekend against Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies was another fine performance by the team, making it our fourth consecutive win in all competitions, and our third league win of this season’s campaign.
Our next fixture is going to take place this weekend against Cheadle Town Ladies in the North West Women’s Regional League.
Our opponents are in fine form, and currently sit at the top of the league table with 21 points, after 9 games. They have a record this season of 7 Wins and 2 losses, demonstrating their strengths this campaign.
The fixture is set to be a tough competition against the league leaders, however, due to good form coming into the match, the team are hopeful to come away with a positive result. The team have trained well this week for it and new players are really gelling so Jarrett’s side are full of confidence.
The match is taking place on Sunday 26th November, with the game kicking off at 2pm. The venue for the fixture is on Park Road in Cheadle, at the home ground of Cheadle Town.
The weather looks set to be dry but chilly, so come down and support the team and wrap up warm!

Match Info: Cheadle Town (A), Tue 13th Feb, 7.45pm KO
We return very quickly after our 2-2 draw with Burscough on Saturday, to take on Cheadle Town at Park Road this Tuesday evening as the NWCFL roadshow continues.
The groups of helpers tending to the pitch early on Saturday morning helped to give the game the go ahead, but this didn’t mean a fast start for the Shakers, going in behind at the break. Catch the highlights below.
A quick double from the front two of Briggs and Daniels at the start of the second half was just the tonic to spark Gigg Lane into life, but failing to take the chance to put the game beyond doubt came back to haunt us.
A foul on Tom Moore in the penalty area following a corner, Dec Daniels stepped up to put away his eighth goal in Bury colours. But Burscough stopper Kier Barry, had other ideas and got down low to keep the ball out and keep the visitors in the game with half an hour to go.
Heading into the final ten minutes, defender Ethan Darr stooped to head a looped effort out of reach of NWCFL Goalkeeper of the Month, Harry Wright and grab a share of the spoils in the process. A disappointing result which manager Dave McNabb remarked upon in his post-match interview below.

Match Info: Cheadle Town (H), Mon 26th Aug, 3:00pm KO
It’s the final game in our Gigg Lane triple header this week, as we host Cheadle Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
Saturday saw us book our place into the next round of the FA Vase, with a 3-1 win over Maghull. After a goalless first half. Iyrwah Gooden got the first goal inside five second half minutes, before Bebeto Gomes poked home from close range on 73 minutes. Maghull’s Adam Hammill grabbed a goal back with an amazing free kick, whilst Alik Babayan sealed the victory in stoppage time.
We return to the league action in sixth position, five points off league leaders Ramsbottom who picked up another league victory on Saturday, in one of the five league games played whilst the Shakers were in cup action.

In Opposition – Cheadle Town
Cheadle Town are in 10th position in the league, having drawn 0-0 at home to Stockport Town on Wednesday evening in their last league outing before a 3-1 win in the FA Vase against Glasshoughton Welfare.
They started life in 1961 as a Sunday League side called Grasmere Rovers and took their present name in 1983 when they joined the NWCFL. They finally reached the Premier Division after a highly successful 2022-23 season and finished in 13th position in 2023-24.

Match Info: Cheadle Town (H), Sat 26th Aug, 3pm KO
It’s going to be a busy August Bank Holiday Weekend, which begins with Saturday’s home game with Cheadle Town.
Andy Welsh will be looking for a response from his sides 3-2 defeat against Kendal Town on Tuesday evening. Bury opened the scoring on 14 minutes through Andy Briggs, with the Shakers holding onto that lead until just after the break, when Steven Yawson equalised for Kendal.
Andy Briggs regained Bury’s lead less than 10 minutes later to the roar of the South Stand, following a goalmouth scramble, when the ball landed at Briggs’ foot for him to slam home the ball from 10 yards out for his sixth league goal of the season.
However, that was as good as it was going to get for the men in white, as the game was levelled up by the visitors on the hour mark, when top scorer James Bailey looped a header over Taberner into the opposite corner of the Bury goal before Yawson stole through the Bury defence to score the third and eventual winner on 68 minutes.

Visiting Cheadle Town have had a mixed start to the season, having played seven, won two, drawn one and lost four so far in the league.
Paul Marshall’s side hosted Prestwich Heys on Tuesday evening, a game they lost 4-2. Heys lead 2-0 after 25 minutes, Cheadle got a goal back before half time. In the second half, Heys gained a further two goals, one from ex-Bury striker Jack Coop, before Jordan Lazenbury scored a second goal for the hosts, two minutes from time.

A minutes applause will be held ahead of kick-off, as we pay our respects to Emily Wilcock, a player in one of our Women’s Recreational Teams following her sudden passing this week, aged 27.
In Opposition – Cheadle Town
Cheadle Town was formed in 1961 as Grasmere Rovers playing in the Manchester & District Sunday Football League in their Under 16s Division. As the team developed the Under-21 Championship was won in 1968, followed by the Premier Division title two years later.
Grasmere Rovers moved into their own ground at Park Road Stadium in 1982 and, a year later, changed their name to Cheadle Town when they also joined the North West Counties Football League. Membership has mainly been in the Second Division, but in 1996 the club was promoted to the First Division. Sadly, relegation back to the second tier occurred in 2001, a position they occupied until 2023 when they were promoted to the now-named Premier Division.
And what a season 2022/23 was… for the first time in over 20-years Cheadle Town were finally promoted to the top tier of the NWCFL. In a season which saw the Football Club awarded ‘Club of the Month’ on three separate occasions and break records for unbeaten runs and consecutive victories. The season came down to the lottery of the Play-Offs which saw Cheadle Town defeat Stockport Town 2-0 in the Semi Finals, leading to a Final against Sandbach United. The trip to Colne follows hard on the heels of last Tuesday’s visit to Charnock Richard, and we’re hoping the outcome is similar. What a treat it was for the Shakers and our fans. We celebrated the return to League action with an away win under lights on a wet and skiddy pitch – and with a clean sheet.
It was a good start for goalkeeper Russell Saunders – who was drafted in at the last minute as Mitch Allen and his partner welcomed their new arrival – Once again congrats to Mitch and Erikha on the birth of their child from everyone at the club.
The pressures of recent weeks have left us with several leading players struggling against injury. But the big danger at Colne is that on paper it should be a pushover. We’re third in the league with games in hand, and Colne are rock bottom – beaten in their last five games and with only six points.
So…come on you Shakers!!
In Opposition – Colne
It’s been a dire season so far for Colne. Formed in 1996, they celebrated their 20th anniversary by winning the NWCFL title with 100 points and more than 100 goals.
In 2017, they finished their first season in the Northern Premier League West Division in a respectable fifth place, and in the following year reached the play-offs. That was as good as it got, however, and they were relegated in 2023.
Back in the NWCFL Premier Division, they were beaten 3-1 by Bury in the second match of the season and lost 4-1 in the return fixture. They ended the season in 10th position – seven places below Bury.

After 1547 days without competitive football, Bury FC finally returned to league action on Saturday. And what an occasion it was – dispatching a competitive Glossop North End side 5–1 to take a very early position at the top of the NWCFL Premier Division.
We cannot thank the fans enough for cheering us on to victory in the historic occasion at Gigg Lane, with the attendance of 5,451 – a record for this division!
The first away game arrives just three days later at Colne, who suffered a 3–0 defeat at West Didsbury & Chorlton on the opening day. Andy Welsh will not be taking anything for granted and will want a repeat performance against Paul Weller’s side. He is expected to name an unchanged side with no injuries picked up on Saturday.

Colne FC were formed in January 1996, and moved into the vacant Holt House Stadium, once used by Colne Dynamoes.
The Red Army struggled until the 2003/04 season, when they finished top of the NWCFL Division 2 – 10 points clear of second place and scoring 102 goals. They also made it to the semi–finals of the FA Vase, defeating AFC Wimbledon along the way.

A win for interim managers, Leon Mike and Stephen Sheil, on Tuesday night was welcome relief after a turbulent start to the week which saw Andy Welsh and management team leave the club following the loss to Lower Breck last Saturday.
The management duo were keen to stress the importance of the senior players in the group who stepped up to help with preparations for the win on the Fylde coast, you can hear their interview after the game below.
One of those senior players put his words into action when we took the lead just after half-time on Tuesday. Chris Rowney struck a low shot from the edge of the box which pressed home the dominance that had been shown up to that point by a determined and organised Bury side who grabbed a first clean sheet in 15 competitive games. Connor Comber grabbed an opportune goal 20 minutes later when Gate keeper, Nathan Pennington spilled a swirling cross in the 6-yard box and Comber was on hand to stab the ball home for his third of the season.
Comber also grabbed the player of the match award from the hosts, following a sharp display which also saw the winger smash a first half free-kick against the upright which would no doubt have been a goal of the season contender. This weekend’s visitors are new to the Premier Division following relegation from the NPL last term. This fixture was originally due to be played in February but with a free weekend for both sides as neither are in FA Vase action yet, the game was brought forward. This will mean we will have completed our games against the Lancashire-based outfit, after we took all three points in the reverse fixture in the first week of the season.
Goals from Andy Briggs, Darius Palma and Benito Lowe put us three-up at half-time before the home side grabbed a well-taken consolation goal. Highlights are available below.

We welcome Colne to Gigg Lane determined to bounce back from our disappointing start to a month which may well prove vital in our bid for promotion.
That 3-1 defeat at Litherland REMYCA was hard to take, but hey! – football’s always about a new start with the next match.
We beat Colne 2-0 at their place at the end of October, with second-half goals from Ben Hockenhull and Connor Pye. Since then, we’ve won two and lost two and Colne have won two, drawn one and lost one.
Losing twice in four games has come as a massive shock after going 21 without a single defeat. A convincing victory against Colne is clearly well within our capabilities, and would give morale a massive boost.
So we need lots of fans in good voice to flock to Gigg Lane and get behind the lads. Please come on down – and come on you Shakers!!

All credit to Colne for their performance in the last four games, after a dreadful start to their second season following relegation from the Northern Premier’s West Division.
They currently languish in 23rd place in the table, with just 13 points from 24 games. The Shakers are in 3rd place, with 52 points from the same number of games.
Last season, we beat them 3-1 away and 4-1 at home, and they finished in 10th positon – seven places below us.
Colne was founded in 1996, and just 20 years later – on 7 May 2016 – clinched the North West Counties Premier Division championship. A single goal in their last game of the season at 1874 Northwich was all they needed, and they finally scored it late in the second half.

It has been the one we have all been waiting for, a trip to Douglas for the Shakers this weekend as we take on FC Isle of Man at The Bowl, kick-off 6pm.
The anticipation has been building for weeks, if not months, as supporters make their travel plans across the Irish Sea to take on the Ravens. We head into the fixture on a run of 11 unbeaten matches and picked up a win at Cheadle Town on Tuesday in the wet and rainy conditions of South Manchester.
A first start for Benito Lowe since October was capped off with a goal. The fiesty striker was fouled for the penalty that he picked himself up from, to dispatch the opening goal of the game. Goal-machine Andy Briggs grabbed another minutes later to seal the win.
FC Isle of Man visited Gigg Lane back in September, in Dave McNabb’s first game as manager. A tight affair, and the deadlock was broken by Gaz Peet midway through the first half in a 1-0 win. The highlights can be found below.

Opponents – FC Isle of Man
FC Isle of Man was founded in 2020 and is a community-based football club which represents the island as a whole.
The Ravens were officially accepted into the English non-league pyramid for the 2020/21 season. However, due to Covid restrictions and border controls into the island, the club were temporarily suspended from the league as it was not possible to fulfil all their fixtures by 31st May 2021, as required by the English FA.
Subsequently the season as a whole was eventually suspended due to further Covid outbreaks in early 2021 and the 2021/22 season became their first in the non-league system.
Despite going top of the division temporarily in February after a dramatic 4-3 victory over eventual league champions West Didsbury, the Ravens ultimately finished second in the league but were promoted at the first attempt after defeating New Mills in the play-off final in front of more than 3,000 spectators at the Bowl.
Current manager, Paul Jones, stepped in to take the top job permenantly in February 2023 after a period as interim manager. The club’s first manager Chris Bass left in the November before, following a difficult start to life in Step 5. Their first season in the Premier Division in 2022-23 however ended in consolidation, with a 13th place finish after a strong end to the season.
The Ravens go into the weekend in 12th place in the league, with 14 wins and four draws from their 32 games so far. They have also hit a bit of form as we head into this weekend’s clash, with a run of three wins in the last three games, culminating in a 4-3 dispatching of Prestwich on the mainland over last weekend.

The fixture everyone looks for in the calendar, it’s a trip to Douglas for the Shakers this weekend as we take on FC Isle of Man at The Bowl, kick-off 6pm.
We’re once again heading across in our numbers with travel plans having been in place for many fans since the day the fixtures came out in July. We head into the fixture on a run of 11 unbeaten matches (as we did going into this fixture last year) and picked up a win at home to South Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Following Tuesday’s win, we caught up with Debutant Ben Hockenhull, Man of the Match Bryan Ly and goalkeeper coach Sam Ashton.
Opponents – FC Isle of Man
FC Isle of Man was founded in 2020 and is a community-based football club which represents the island as a whole.
The Ravens were officially accepted into the English non-league pyramid for the 2020/21 season. However, due to Covid restrictions and border controls into the island, the club were temporarily suspended from the league as it was not possible to fulfil all their fixtures by 31st May 2021, as required by the English FA.
Subsequently the season as a whole was eventually suspended due to further Covid outbreaks in early 2021 and the 2021/22 season became their first in the non-league system.
Despite going top of the division temporarily in February after a dramatic 4-3 victory over eventual league champions West Didsbury, the Ravens ultimately finished second in the league but were promoted at the first attempt after defeating New Mills in the play-off final in front of more than 3,000 spectators at the Bowl.
Current manager, Paul Jones, stepped in to take the top job permenantly in February 2023 after a period as interim manager. The club’s first manager Chris Bass left in the November before, following a difficult start to life in Step 5. Their first season in the Premier Division in 2022-23 however ended in consolidation, with a 13th place finish after a strong end to the season.
The Ravens go into the weekend in 12th place in the league, with three wins, two draws and four draws from their opening nine matches. The Ravens picked up a 3-1 win in their most recent fixture on the mainland against Prestwich Heys on Tuesday night.

A new era begins in BL9 this week, after the Shakers unveiled their new manager on Monday evening. Dave McNabb joined up with the squad for the first time last night ahead of Tuesday night’s clash with the visiting islanders from the Isle of Man.

Interim managers, Leon Mike and Stephen Sheil return to take the under-23s and they go with our thanks for stepping in during turbulent times. They left with a bang, following up the win on the Fylde coast last Tuesday with a thumping 4-1 against Colne at Gigg Lane on Saturday. Results which keep us right in the hunt at the top-of-the-table.

Matchday Programme: You can purchase a programme online now, to collect at the merchandise stall tomorrow afternoon or head to the sellers in and around the ground ahead of the game at the price of £3.
Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.

With six games in hand we moved to nine points off the top of the league with a 2-0 win against Pilkington today. Rustam Stepans and DJ Pedro scored the goals that ensure Dave McNabb’s Barmy Army continue our unbeaten streak in the NWCFL Premier which now extends to 17 games.
At the other end of the pitch The Shakers back line remained solid as rock, claiming their third clean sheet in a row, seventh of the season.
We also marked Remembrance Day, taking a moment to remember all those brave men and women who have lost their lives in many conflicts and wars around the world and in service to our country at home.
Theres not much time to revel in our win as the games will come thick and fast over the coming weeks. It’s a quick turnaround as our league campaign continues on Tuesday night when FC St Helens visit Gigg Lane for what is set to be a firecracker of a fixture under the floodlights at Gigg lane.
We have a huge two months in November and December which could set us up for the season and we need you to get down to Gigg! Be #PartOfIt and roar the lads on to victory.

Last weekend, the team were victorious with a 4-1 win over local rivals Rochdale to progress to the semi-finals of the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup. This weekend, attention turns to Fleetwood Town Ladies.

Match Info: Glossop North End (A), Sat 30th Sept, 3pm KO
The Dave McNabb era began at Gigg Lane this week as the former Warrington and Bootle manager became The Shakers 44th permanent manager. In Dave’s first game in charge on Tuesday night we took on FC Isle of Man and extended our run of wins to three games.
The team put on a resolute performance with the backline keeping second clean sheet in three games and Gaz Peet finding the back of the net for the first time this season.
The fans were in fine voice and 2909 of the Shakers faithful gave our new Management team a fantastic welcome, still singing 20 minutes after the final whistle whilst the lads signed autographs and took players with the fans in The South Stand.

Attention now turns to our first of two trips in a fortnight (following the Frank Hannah Premier cup draw) to The Asgard Engineering Stadium to take on Glossop North End.

In Opposition – Glossop North End
The club was founded in 1886 and joined the North Cheshire League four years later. Glossop spent two seasons each in The Combination and the Midland League, before moving to North Road and being elected into the Football League Second Division in 1898. Having been promoted in the 1898–99 season, they spent one season in the First Division. During this period the club was bankrolled by Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. The club retains some connections with Arsenal. Glossop were relegated in 1900 and spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, before exiting the Football League during World War I.
Post-war, they spent 1920 to 1957 in the Manchester League, being crowned champions in 1927–28. They moved from the Lancashire Combination back to the Manchester League in 1966, and then spent four seasons in the Cheshire County League from 1978 before the North West Counties was formed in 1982 in which Glossop were founder members, they had a 33-year stint in the league before winning the Premier Division title at the end of the 2014–15 campaign. They were beaten finalists in the FA Vase in 2009 and 2015.
In April 2023 GNE were relegated from Step 4 after a period of eight years, ending manager Stuart
Mellish’s two-year stint at the helm. Michael Worthington was appointed as manager in the summer of 2023 as the Hillmen head into their first season back in the NWCFL.

It’s just 10 days since our last trip to Surrey Street in Glossop, this time it’s the turn of the Frank Hannah Manchester Premier Cup.
Dave McNabb confirmed in his post-match interview (below) on Saturday that a squad of Under 23s will make up the squad, under the management of Leon Mike & Stephen Sheil. It gives McNabb an opportunity to be able to see the younger players in the club.
Saturday saw an emphatic 7-0 away win at Barnoldswick (highlights below), which saw six different scorers. The pick of the bunch, being Connor Comber’s thunder strike, which may well be a goal of the season contender.

Glossop spent two seasons each in The Combination and the Midland League, before moving to North Road and being elected into the Football League Second Division in 1898. Having been promoted in the 1898–99 season, they spent one season in the First Division. During this period the club was bankrolled by Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. The club retains some connections with Arsenal. Glossop were relegated in 1900 and spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, before exiting the Football League during World War I.

In April 2023 GNE were relegated from Step 4 after a period of eight years, ending manager Stuart
Mellish’s two-year stint at the helm. Michael Worthington was appointed as manager in the summer of 2023 as the Hillmen head into their first season back in the NWCFL.

Dave McNabb’s 50th game in charge of the Shakers came with late drama at the weekend, with a 1-1 draw away at FC Isle of Man.
Ben Hockenhull equalised in the sixth minute of stoppage time, after Sean Doyle opened the scoring for the Ravens 11 minutes into the second half.
The fans were in fine voice in the Manx’s capital, after hundreds made the trip across the Irish Sea for the second time this calendar year. Luckily with no delays this time!

It’s the second away game of four in this run of fixtures. We head to Blyth at the weekend and then Ramsbottom, but focus for now is on Glossop North End.

After the trials and tribulations of a trip to the Isle of Man last weekend, the lads earned a well-deserved break at the start of the week ahead of this weekend’s visit of Glossop North End to Gigg Lane.
Manager Dave McNabb recognised the team’s efforts in first of all getting to the Manx island, before putting in a special effort to come away with a valuable 2-0 win and a brace from Sam Burns.
In adverse conditions, you find out a lot about who’s around you. Whether that be on the pitch or in the stands. Both players and fans made a special commitment in being there to support each other last weekend, and we must do so again this Saturday.
Glossop visit Gigg Lane again, after being our opponents in our first competitive game back at Gigg Lane all the way back in July. A special occasion no doubt, with a resounding scoreline to boot.
However, it was to come to nothing in the eyes of the league soon after with an ineligible player contributing to the game. The game was removed from the list and ordered to be played again, with an additional three-point penalty handed down to the club at the same time. A fact that has rankled with supporters no doubt.
However, we go into this game in great form and despite points deductions, sit top of the league heading into the game. With only 10 games to go after this, we need you all there to bring the boys home.

Starkies bar Starkies: For those with tickets in the Main Stand, access to Starkies will be available from when the gates open with drinks required to be consumed in the bar only for the next two games. The bar is limited to a set number and this will be managed by stewards through the day.
After the game, supporters from other areas of the ground can gain access to Starkies via the ground floor entrance in that corner of the ground – subject to the maximum capacity not being exceeded.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.

Buy Tickets HERE We are able to operate at full capacity in the South Stand & East Stand (Cemetery End). These two stands alone give us a capacity of well over 5,000.
The Manchester Road End will remain closed. We are awaiting confirmation on what capacity the North (Main) Stand can operate at, but we know it will not be at full capacity, so we have elected to put tickets for the South Stand on sale now rather than delay sales further.
We are at capacity in the 1885 Suite after strong season ticket sales for that space so are unable to offer further hospitality tickets for this game.
For now, we will make the South Stand ticket only, and leave the Cemetery End as the pay-on-the-turnstile option. This makes it far easier to manage numbers for our volunteer turnstile operators.
Season ticket holders may choose any available stand. Should the South Stand look like it will sell out then we will release tickets for the Cemetery End also, by which time we should have more information on the Main Stand numbers.
We know this will be a well-attended game and many supporters will want to guarantee their place by purchasing a ticket in advance. Tickets are strictly unreserved seating ONLY.

We need noisy fans in numbers to get behind the Shakers as they face Glossop North End in their 21st match of the season.
Yes, we are indeed, still the mighty Shakers. Yes, we are unbeaten. And yes, we did beat North End 4-2 away three weeks ago.
But the 5-1 win at Longridge on Saturday flattered us. Without Mitch Allen’s heroics in saving two out of three penalties it might have been a very different story.
The 900 fans who made the journey up the M6 will have been delighted with the result, but maybe concerned that the match could all-too-easily have got away from us. They may well have wondered if the pressure of that unbeaten run and two matches a week, week after week, is beginning to tell?
Just a few days after the Glossop match the Shakers have yet another big game – and yet another away from home. On Saturday, they travel 130 miles each way to take on Harborough in the final qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Another win in the league game would send them off in good spirits. So please…come on down!! Come on you Shakers!!!

Glossop had a terrible start to the season, but have won their last five league games – including a 5-1 defeat of Squires Gate on Saturday. They’re 16th in the league table, having scored 26 goals and conceded 31.
They ended last season in 21st position. We played them three times, losing 2-1 at home and winning 1-0 away in the league, and losing 2-1 at Glossop in the Manchester Premier Cup.
North End’s history dates back to 1886. They won the NWCFL Premier Division title in 2015 and in the same year they played at Wembley in the final of the Isuzu FA Vase, losing 2-1 to North Shields.

Match Info: Harborough Town (A), Sat 12th Oct, 3pm KO
There’s a great opportunity for the unbeaten Shakers to do some more FA Cup shaking when we meet Harborough Town from the Southern League Premier Division this Saturday at the final qualifying stage of this season’s Emirates FA Cup.
We’re the last Step Five team still in the tournament, and are up against a team from Step Three. But we beat Radcliffe from Step Two, and the prize this time is a place in the First Round Proper. So come on, you Shakers!
It would be understandable if performances in our last two league matches were affected by thoughts of the Harborough game. After a 5-1 win at Longbridge which featured Mitch Allen facing three penalties within the first 60 minutes, we were then perhaps not at our best against Glossop North End at Gigg Lane on Tuesday evening.
We were much the better team but failed to convert a number of chances. We went ahead 10 minutes into the second half with a penalty from the lethal Rustam Stepans and added a second nine minutes later when Bryan Ly blasted home from six-yards. Glossop fought to the end, and despite pegging the Shakers back and sharing the spoils we took our unbeaten run to 21 matches – but only just.

Maybe a culmination of playing a number of games in a short space of the season so far affected us going into the final 20 minutes on Tuesday, but this weekend is the fruits of the labour – a chance to reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup and they don’t come around all too often when you start the competition in August and the Extra Preliminary Round!
It is something sides from our step in the football pyramid have only achieved on two occasions in recent times. And up until 2019, it was where supporters were generally accoustomed to starting the road to glory, wouldn’t it be nice to be back there, after all that has happened since then?

In Opposition – Harborough Town
This is very much a community club for Market Harborough in Leicestershire. They came into existence in 1975, took their present form in 2007, and run a wide variety of teams for all age groups.
The Southern League Premier Division Central side are in 15th place, having won two, drawn four and lost three of their nine games. This is the first time they have come through to this stage of the FA Cup, after beating Step Two side Leamington in the last round. Highlights of this 1-0 victory can be found below:
Last weekend Town – “The Bees” – lost 5-2 away to Northern Premier League Midlands Division side Sporting Khalsa in the Isuzu FA Trophy third qualifying round.

Parking: Parking is available in the council car park adjacent to the ground as well as in agreed local designated areas. We kindly request you to respect our residential and business neighbours, and to arrive early to avoid congestion upon entry.
Public Transport: It is possible to get a bus to the ground although it is not a particularly frequent service.
The “X7 Stagecoach” bus operates between Leicester and Northampton. The closest stop is Market Harborough, Leisure Centre and is approximately a 5 minute walk following the instructions by car from the roundabout.
Nearest train: Market Harborough Station (1 mile away) is served by frequent EMR (East Midlands trains) from London St Pancras and the East Midlands.
There is a taxi rank available at the front of the station. approximate travel time is 10mins depending on traffic conditions.
Driving:
From A508 Southbound
If you are travelling from the North Harborough Town’s ground is situated on the A508 towards Market Harborough Leisure Centre. Follow the A508 passing Protheroe’s Garage on your left-hand side and turn right at the next roundabout. Immediately bear left, follow the road around and you will see Harborough Town FC clubhouse diagonally across the car park.
From A508 Northbound
If you are travelling from the south (A14) travelling north on the A508 heading for Market Harborough for about 8 miles going through Great Oxendon. You will go down a hill and you will come to a roundabout, take the first exit, immediately bear left, follow the road around and you will see Harborough Town FC clubhouse diagonally across the car park
Ground Facilities: Portable toilets will be placed at the top end of the ground, along with catering facilities for food and drink.
Away fans have been allocated the area on the left-hand side of the pitch (rugby ground side), from the away dugout and along the top end of the ground (viewed left). There is also provision for 100 covered seats further around the top end.
It is respectfully requested that our supporters remain in the ground for a short period of time after the game has finished. This is to all for the safe exit from the ground for all supporters.

Following discussions with Harborough Town since the announcement of the draw and considering the interest in the sold-out fixture, the board at The Bees have worked with us on this and we are delighted to confirm that a live stream of this game to be provided online for supporters to follow from 2.30pm on the day. A team of media volunteers will be heading to the ground to setup from Saturday lunchtime.

Match Info: Irlam (A), Sat 9th Mar, 3pm KO
Irlam it is this weekend and our last game of the season outside of the Borough of Bury. With six of the last nine games at Gigg Lane, and the other two away games at Prestwich and Ramsbottom, we head out onto the M60 and into Salford for the last time in the regular season. It is a 3pm kick-off at the RG3 Digitial Stadium this Saturday.
Last weekend, we grabbed the win against a tough Lower Breck side on a difficult pitch. That said, late chances went begging for Player of the Month Andy Scarisbrick and new loan signing, Miles Storey, which would have given the scoreline a gloss that the determined performance deserved.
However, make no mistake the side continue to turn in results which keep us at the top of the league and the form table. A winning streak that stretches four games, going 14 unbeaten as well is just the tonic as we hit the business end of the season. Irlam by contrast have been hit and miss in recent weeks, with two wins, two draws and two losses in the last six. One of those wins was away at Chadderton however, which has slowed Chaddy’s assault on the top spots which has helped us but also acts as a reminder to not take our opponent lightly.
Sat in 13th position in the league, comfortably away from the relegation spots and with the playoffs likely out of reach, are our opponents going to playing with a freedom that could cause us problems? We will have to wait and see, but as always we need our large following to be backing from the off as we go in the hunt of another three points.
Charlie Doyle returns from his suspension, with Dec Daniels hopefully full recovered from his illness. Both would be facing off against their former side this weekend if so, with Andy Briggs also pushing for a start as he returns from the ankle injury suffered away at Cheadle Town three weeks ago.

Setup in 1969, as Mitchell Shackleton Football Club mostly competing in the local district leagues until renaming to Irlam Mitchell Shackleton in 2001 and after success in the Manchester League consistently in the early-2000s were renamed to their current name in 2006.
Despite a relatively disappointing Manchester League performance in 2007-08, where they finished eighth, Irlam moved into the North West Counties for the following season before establishing themselves and getting promoted to their current position in the Premier Division with a second-placed finish in 2015-16.Irlam play at Silver Street, the former home of Irlam Town (1976-1995) following the relinquishing of their former home at Salteye Park, which made way for the new AJ Bell Stadium, home of Salford Reds and Sale Sharks which can be seen from the M60 around the Trafford Centre.
Irlam finished last season in 17th, and have made a jump up the league in recent weeks to now lie in mid-table. On Tuesday night, they secured a 4-3 win away at Barnoldswick Town.

Match Info: Irlam (A), Tue 10th Dec, 7:45pm KO
We face yet another tough test with this visit to Irlam, but go into the game buoyed up by a stunning 4-0 performance against Colne.
It was a day on which our skill was backed up by grit and determination. Everyone – not least manager Dave McNabb – was embarrassed by the abysmal midweek performance against Litherland REMYCA. So we’re back on track for our vital December run of fixtures.
We were without suspended Ben Hockenhull, but were boosted by the last-minute signing of tough-tackling Aaron Chalmers. He not only strengthened the defence but popped the ball into the Colne net in a goalmouth scramble.
Ben is available for the Irlam game and popular striker Djavan Pedro – also on five yellows – will play. But DJ will miss Saturday’s home match against Abbey Hey.
Losing twice in four games shook us all after going 21 without a single defeat. So the convincing victory against Colne restored morale around the club – along with seeing Nicky Adams back in a Bury shirt.

This is a club with a long and distinguished history. They held us to a 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane back in August and are currently 11th in the league. They finished last season in 13th place.
Irlam will be determined to build on a run of decent results. They have lost only one of their last six games, won two and drawn three – including 1-1 result at home against leaders Ramsbottom United just over a week ago.
Last season we beat them 3-0 at home but lost 1-0 away – a defeat which cost us in our bid for promotion.
