Two Added to Bolster Squad
Sam Coughlan joins after being in the junior levels at Everton (Photo Credit – Everton FC) Dave McNabb has added two players to his squad this week to solve some of the gaps in the team following injuries in the past couple of weeks.
We welcome to Gigg Lane midfielder Sam Coughlan and defender Harry Brockbank.
Sam, 19, arrives having previously played in Everton’s Academy where he has been since the age of eight. After leaving the Merseyside club last summer, he has recently been regularly training with the squad and is now added to the squad list.
Harry signing for St. Patrick’s Athletic of the League of Ireland Premier Division in 2022 (Photo Credit – Final Whistle) Harry, 25, arrives from Radcliffe on a 28-day loan after making the switch to M26 last month. Harry has recently spent time in the US and Ireland, after over 17 years with Bolton Wanderers up to 2022.
We wish to place on record our thanks to Radcliffe for allowing us to take Harry at short notice.
Both players will be available for tonight’s visit of Ramsbottom United, subject to league approval ahead of the fixture.
Welcome to Bury, Sam & Harry!

Update from the Football Supporters' Society of Bury
The Interim Board of Football Supporters Society of Bury would like to provide the following update in relation to the leak of information and the resumption of the full elections for the society board. The investigation which was detailed in an email to members on the 16th August 2023 was completed on the 4th September 2023. The findings of the investigation were inconclusive as to where the leak of information originated from. Additionally, the panel responsible for the investigation concluded they were confident that there had been no unauthorised access of any member data. As a result, we now consider this matter closed. The board are in the process of finalising a way forward in conjunction with Mi-Voice and the Football Supporters Association to resume the election as soon as reasonably possible now that the investigation has concluded. The board is committed to ensuring the integrity of the election is upheld and have agreed to put additional mitigations in place to facilitate this. We would like to thank members for their ongoing patience whilst these issues are resolved and will be publishing an updated election timetable in due course when the updated processes are agreed and the electorate data is verified. Anonymous social media accounts often cause unnecessary problems for the football club and the wellbeing of its members and supporters. These accounts seek to divide the fan-base, undermine the hard-work of volunteers and ultimately have a negative impact on the club’s progress both on and off the field. We would encourage supporters to only engage with updates from official channels and the we will endeavour to keep fans up to date of election progress and other relevant issues whenever possible until the newly elected board is in place.
End July Management Accounts
You can now view the management accounts for the new financial year (starting 1st July) to end July 2023. These cover Bury Football Club and the two societies. They do not yet include The Bury Football Club Company Limited, which is the company which owns the stadium, but this should be addressed in future.

Update from The Secretary of the Football Supporters' Society of Bury
We have completed the amalgamation of the two societies, the name change to Bury Football Club and made Gigg Lane our home ground, which were the three items voted on by members in May.
We also advised as part of the pre-vote information pack that we would move the ownership of the football club, which is Bury Football Club (2019) Ltd trading as Bury Football Club, under the ownership of The Bury Football Club Company Limited, subject to further financial due diligence. We have been advised by Bury FC Benefactors Ltd that at this stage they will not be investing the further £300, 000 they had committed to in the business plan presented to members. This does not place the stadium or club in any significant jeopardy as we are still able to access both central and local government funding in addition to holding our own cash reserves.
There is no obligation on Bury FC Benefactors Ltd to invest this money, and we will continue to work with them as normal. Equally there is no requirement for the Football Supporters’ Society of Bury to make any changes to the ownership of the club, and so it will remain 100% owned by the Society, and separate from The Bury Football Club Company Limited, which the Society co-owns with Bury FC Benefactors Ltd. The Football Supporters’ Society of Bury also owns the majority of voting rights in The Bury Football Club Company Limited, so should not be prejudiced in any way by keeping the organisational structure in its current format.
Should any party, including Bury FC Benefactors Ltd, wish to invest into either Bury Football Club (2019) Ltd or The Bury Football Club Company Limited at a future date they may do so by an approach to the board of the Football Supporters’ Society of Bury, who can take this forward to member consultation and a member vote if they believe it is a credible offer in the best interests of the club and the society.
There are some significant legal and tax issues to consider as part of any transaction like this, in addition to the need for member approval, and so it is unlikely that any offer could be agreed and put forward for a vote quickly or without professional advice.

Update from The Secretary of the Football Supporters' Society of Bury
The process to elect the new board of the Football Supporters’ Society of Bury was opened on the 8th August 2023.
Independent election scrutineers Mi-Voice were appointed to run this process.
We have been notified by Mi-Voice that on Monday 14th August, information about the FSSB's election relating to specific members was posted online to an anonymous Twitter account. Issues relating to these individuals had already been identified and were being dealt with as part of establishing the electoral roll for the election.
The post represents a breach in the process that needs to be investigated further. It also calls into question the integrity of the election and any result that would have been declared.
As a consequence, Mi-Voice have temporarily suspended the elections process, pending an internal investigation into how the leak occurred.
A further statement will be issued once more information becomes available.

Update on Matchday Hospitality
Today’s news brings some changes to how matchdays operate at Gigg Lane, alongside some fan feedback which we very much appreciate:
Any fan who has purchased a season ticket (regardless of which stand) can enter Starkies from 12:30pm (opening a hour earlier that last season) and during the game as long as they have purchased a Starkies pass (This is now available as a game by game pass, click here) This is a change to last season in which only people who had a main stand ticket could access Starkies before and during the game.
After taking fan feedback and in line with our ambition to grow junior numbers, Starkies pass for Under 16s is now free of charge, those who purchased one will be refunded automatically.
Fans can purchase a Starkies match pass for £7 per game, (these will be available on TicketCo up to the day before a game) which includes a match programme, a pie, and now added to this is Q and A with a Bury Legend (subject to availability). We are delighted to announce David Lee will be joining us for the first home game!
A Starkies Pass for the whole season can be bought here, or it can be bought as a stand alone ticket for any game here. It does not include the matchday ticket which must be purchased separately.
We are also delighted to announce a upgrade ticket option for 1885 and Sponsors Lounge tickets, so if you buy an individual match ticket on TicketCo you will be offered the chance to upgrade it to other packages.
Season ticket holders who wish to purchase additional hospitality with the cost reduced to reflect your season ticket purchase can email enquiries@buryfc.co.uk to request an upgrade.
Our match hospitality packages are now available to purchase on a match by match basis following the release of fixtures on Tuesday.
1885 suite (open from 12:30pm) will be £35 per person (a £13 reduction on last seasons price and with a brand new menu), and this price includes:

Update: FC Isle Of Man
We are aware of the travel disruption which has blighted all traveling to the Isle of Man for tonight’s fixture.
We are in dialogue with all stakeholders & currently considering the impacts on all aspects of getting games played, be that player welfare, ground availability and that of the relevant authorities.
While this is reviewed, supporters are advised to refrain from re-scheduling their own arrangements while this is considered fully.
Further communication will be provided as soon as possible.

Update: FC Isle of Man v Bury
Unfortunately the players have been unable to get to the Isle of Man today. We are now trying to get them onto a 7am flight tomorrow morning.
The players were told definitively at 3.30pm today at Manchester Airport that there was no way they would be able to board the last flight to the Isle of Man at 6.10pm tonight. If there was the slightest chance of flying they would have stayed.
FC Isle of Man issued a statement suggesting there was room on the flight and the players refused to return and board it. This is misleading as there was no realistic chance of the players returning to the airport and onto the plane in time to fly when requested.
We are disappointed with the approach they have taken, given it serves only to further frustrate the supporters who have travelled in their numbers to the island. The players care deeply about playing, and having spent many hours waiting at the airport would not have left if they thought there was any opportunity to get on a flight. Many live a good distance away from Manchester Airport and travelled by public transport to get there.
We are acutely aware of how frustrated our supporters will be having spent time and money travelling to the Isle of Man. We want to reassure them that the players and management team did and are doing everything possible to play this fixture.

Play-off Final
Winners of each Semi-Final, Saturday 4th May
Ties are to be played at the home venue of the higher ranking side.

Kendal Town would fall out of the play-off picture in this case.
More details on admission arrangements for the Semi-Final will be communicated after the point our opponent is confirmed.

Update: Ticket Refunds
Firstly, thank you for the continued patience being shown by all supporters in relation to information on obtaining refunds for the Behind Closed door matches.
We appreciate that this affects single ticket purchases, season ticket holders, 1885 members and sponsors. We do not take your support for granted.
The systems/mechanics involved in processing any refunds is not a simple one.
As you can imagine the club has never had to deal with this situation before and with a club having a small number of full-time staff, it is taking some time to work through potential solutions. That being said, we could have communicated a update sooner and we acknowledge the fustrations that may have caused.
We hope to be in a position to give an update next week having worked through the practical considerations for actioning refunds and aim to offer some suitable solutions/options. I am sure you can also appreciate that these charges have caused a signifcant hole in the club’s finances and have provided logistical challenges that are beyond the scope of what can reasonably be expected.
We will communicate our plans next week and request your continued patience in awaiting further news on next steps.
Thank you for your continued support.
Neil Sears

Veterans Bar Launch
We are pleased to announce the opening of our military veterans lounge situated in the Main Stand.
Supported by the Two Tubs public house, a family-run establishment in the heart of Bury Town Centre, the lounge will be used on Saturday match days and once a month as a ‘drop-in centre’.
The Two Tubs landlady Donna Haslam explained “The Borough of Bury has many veterans and the inclusion of them within the community of Bury FC will be an important factor in their on-going welfare.”
Community Officer Casey Lynchey added, “It’s great to see this come to fruition for the veteran community of the town. Working with a wide range of residents is part of the community strategy and I am hopeful that we can also provide some walking football opportunities for the group as well.”
The lounge will officially open at our home match against Pilkington on 2nd November which coincides with the club’s annual remembrance service being held on the same day.
To gain entrance Veterans will need to provide their ID Card to the Hospitality entrance at the ground. Entrance will cost £5.
Each veteran will be given a wristband which will gain them entrance to the Vets Bar, however there is a limited capacity which will be monitored on the day.

Volunteers Nominated at Manchester FA Awards
We are delighted to confirm two of our volunteers have been nominated at the Manchester FA Grassroots Awards.
Sam Harman has been nominated in the category of the Manchester FA Bobby Moore Award whilst Casey Lynchey has been nominated in the category of the Manchester FA Lioness Award.
The prestigious Bobby Moore Award is reserved for the volunteer who best represents the heart and soul of volunteering in grassroots football, whilst the Lioness Award recognises an individual or group who has created new opportunities in the female game and has had a big impact in their community, on and off the pitch.
Sam is the club’s Volunteer Co-Ordinator, she manages our large and growing band of volunteers to help out in various roles in fundraising and administration as well as various roles on Matchdays. She has taken responsibility for ensuring that we have sufficient volunteers for such roles as security, merchandising, half-time draw ticket sales, programme sales. Sam has also taken on a role of encouraging new volunteers and retaining our valuable existing volunteers.
Whilst Casey has been an active member as the Head of Women’s Football on the Football Board of Bury FC. She has taken responsibility for the creation and administration of up to seven Bury FC Women’s Team (including our promotion-winning Bury FC Women’s First Team) leads in the club’s participation in #HerGameToo and has taken responsibility for ensuring a positive matchday experience for numerous excited mascots. She’s recently been appointed as the club’s Community Development Officer, a new role in which she looks after all community aspects of the club including the new artificial pitch.
CEO, Neil Sears commented on the nominations: “We are delighted to have Bury FC represented by Sam and Casey at these prestigious awards. To reach the final 3 in each category is a tremendous accomplishment and fully deserved achievement by both women.
“Sam and Casey embody everything that Bury FC is about, Casey recently was appointed as our community development officer as well as her continued work being Head of Women’s football. Casey has worked tirelessly and also commits many hours of volunteering to the football club.
“Matchdays simply wouldn’t happen without Sam Harman, she is passionate and leads a large team on a matchday and is always there for many volunteers providing support whenever it’s needed.
“We as a club will be in attendance at the awards hopefully watching Sam and Casey bring home the awards.”
The ceremony will be held at the Sheridan Suite in Manchester on November 15th.

Vote Results: General Season Ticket Refund Policy
As well as holding our recent kit vote, FSSB members also voted on our general season ticket refund policy.
We had 918 ballots returned from 1,715 individual emails issued.
91% of voters approved the general policy for season ticket refunds. 586 voted in favour and 59 were against. 273 abstained, a larger than usual number representing members who are not season ticket holders and did not vote on this issue.
This was also reflected in the preferential vote where a cash refund was the least popular option, with only 62 people ranking it as their first choice option. A huge 49% of voters offered to waive any form of refund as their first choice option, which won the vote once second, third and fourth options were also factored in. There was little demand for a discount on next season’s season ticket, slightly more than the requests for a cash refund, and some support for free entry to play-off games.
We will review these results and assess what we do next. We are not avoiding cash refunds where they are requested but it is heartwarming to see that the vast majority of over 90% of supporters are not interested in a refund at all, and certainly not a cash refund. This gives us the predictable financial security we need heading into the close season, after what has been an extremely damaging month for the club’s revenues.
Running the Gigg Lane stadium is a significant financial burden and the terrible weather this winter has cost us many tens of thousands of pounds in maintenance fees and lost revenues through postponements. Forcing the club to play behind closed doors would have put the club under significant financial duress again if supporters had not indicated that they were happy to waive refunds, and we would like to thank all of you for your generosity of spirit. It is clear that this club belongs to you.
We do not expect the weather to play a part in future with a 3G pitch in place. It’s critical to our progress. We do, however, need to ensure that supporter behaviour does not affect the club’s future. We are continuously being scrutinised by the Manchester FA for the conduct of our supporters. Should any further allegations arise, we are putting ourselves at risk of further severe sanctions, which really do threaten our existence.
Despite repeated issues, we still struggle to convince a very small number of people of the consequences of poor fan behaviour and their personal responsibility for it. We know, however, that most Bury fans do understand and we remain extremely grateful for your support in the many forms you provide.
In the same ballot FSSB members also voted on our away kit for the coming two seasons, you can read more about that here.
