Everyone at Bury Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of our former player Tom Youngs at the very young age of 45. Tom died yesterday, Sunday 4th May, having been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis back in 2014. Tom was an East Anglian man, born in Bury St Edmunds and began his career with a successful six-year spell at Cambridge United, where he played 150 league games, scoring 43 goals. Some sad news has reached Bury Football Club with former Shakers goalkeeper Ken Hancock sadly passing away this week at the age of 87. Ken joined the Shakers in July 1971, being signed by Tom McAnearney as a replacement for Neil Ramsbottom, but after just 24 appearances for the club during 1971/1972 season, lost his place to John Forrest. Bury Football Club are delighted to confirm plans for an Open Training Session ahead of the 2023/24 season. The session will take place on Thursday 13th July at Gigg Lane, doors will open from 6pm, with the session taking place from 6:30pm on the pitch, with the session due to last for approximately an hour. Last Thursday’s Open Training Session at Gigg Lane was a huge success with over 500 local children attending. The queues began around 90 minutes before gates opened with every child looking to get their hands on one of the 100 free season tickets available. A new era ensues as work to lay our new state-of-the-art 3G pitch begins, with sales of the Gigg Lane turf and penalty spot raffle now having finished. All of turf is now cut up and in their seed trays ready for collection from the stadium.
