  3. Nicky Adams ended his final game in football with a 4-0 win over Burscough what saw Bury go up as champions, The Bury legend spoke to the club after the game. Nicky Adams: “Do you know what, I don’t think I could probably sum it up into words that I’d do it justice. I’m just so happy, forget me at the minute, so happy for everyone involved to see what this football club has been through and to see that today is amazing. Something I won’t forget. Just so happy for all the lads and the staff, because I really think they’ll go on a journey now and I really think they can go through the leagues. Obviously disappointed that I can’t carry on that journey with them but, you know, I’m at an age now where I’m not getting any younger, the petrol lights on. So, I can’t turn other jobs down when it gets to my age. But I can’t sum it up into words other than I started here as a 16-year-old boy, finished here at 38 with a promotion at Gigg Lane So, like I said, it’s a fairytale ending for myself and my family. And like I said, they’re all here to witness it as well. So, a special day for me. So, I just want to say thank you to everyone, really.” Nicky then spoke about what its like bouncing back after defeats and how it felt in comparison to his football league days, with him saying “Like I say, I’ve had so many good times at different stages, but I think the season as a whole, I think it’s just, since I came in in December, I’ve been here just short of half the season. It’s been fantastic. I can’t sum it up into words, to be honest. and when I spoke to the gaffer about coming in and they were having a bit of a sticky patch and I just said, look, if I can come in and help in any way, shape or form, I’d like to do that. It started really well, but then we had the West Isby defeat, which was tough, but we bounced back in style. I can’t speak highly enough of everyone who was involved. I went that day, and it was a tough day at the office. I’m not going to lie. I don’t want to see West Isby ever again; to be honest and I know their staff then. I said to them, do you know what? I’m as honest. They were good on the day. They deserve to win. I came off at half-time and it got worse second half, so I’ve never been happy to have been dragged at half-time. But, you know, I just think we had a meeting that week and we just said, look, realise where we are, realise what club we play for and from now on, that doesn’t happen to us again. Like I say, I think from that day, we’ve been brilliant as a team, as a squad. Everyone’s dug in and we’ve had some top moments here and I think we’ve really put on, especially at home, I think everyone knows we’re a good side at home, but away from home, we’ve been able to dig in at tough places. There’re no easy games, is there, at any level. But I think we’ve been really entertaining. I think today was the icing on the cake and what an atmosphere.” Nicky then spoke about what it was like having Ryan Lowe and Neil Danns in the crowd for today’s game, he said “Yes, of course. Two very, very good friends of mine, unbelievable people and I hope they’re still here, because I want to catch up with them both. But it’s just been manic in it. So, listen, I think everyone knows what we went through in 2019, but that made us stronger as a bond. Me and Ryan have been close for a very long time. And then, obviously, when I met Neil here, we’re very good friends now, and I’ve got the utmost respect for him. Two top football players, and just two top people in the game. So, for them to be here today and witness that, and see me play my last game, I’ll have a good chat with them. We’ll have a good beer. But I can’t speak highly enough for people like that. They’re my friends for life, and I’d probably go as far to say that that team I played in was one of the best they ever… I know it was unfortunate what happened, but one of the best teams I ever played in. And it’s just a shame, because I think that we all speak about it now. I think that team would have gone on to do… would have been a real force in League One. Who knows? We might have got to the Championship, but it wasn’t meant to be. But, yes, two great men, and I’m fortunate to be a part of their journey as well. So, I love them both.” Nicky then ended his interview by speaking about what’s next in life for him, with him saying “Of course. I’ll be back as many times as I can be. And cheering is on, because, like I said, this club’s only going to go from strength to strength. The gaffer and his staff, and obviously Tim [Lees], you’ve just spoken to, Chris [Watts], Sam [Ashton], all of them. I don’t want to miss them out. Just them as a group, they’re fantastic and I can’t thank them enough for bringing me back to this football club, because I never thought it would happen. So, a massive thank you to them. And honestly, they’re unbelievable people, and they’re only going to take this club forward. And I’ll be here supporting as a fan when I can, and we’ll see what the road takes me in my next journey. So, just from me, a massive thank you to everyone, all the Bury fans and everyone that’s supported me all my career. So, a massive thank you.” View the full article
  4. Bury were crowned NWCFL Champions after a 4-0 win over Burscough on a magical day at Gigg Lane, Assistant Manager Tim Lees spoke to the club to give us his thoughts. Tim Lees: “Yeah, difficult. I think the best moments in life are really difficult to sum up. I can’t put the emotion of today into words, it doesn’t really do it justice. There’s nothing I can say really that would, but it’s been a very, very long journey. I think after the playoffs of last year, obviously the situation we came into, I think we can say it now, we found it difficult last year with the training facilities and the pitch and the journey that the club’s been on but to achieve what we’ve done today; I’m really struggling to put it into words. I think the fans were absolutely unbelievable. I think I’ll speak about them first everyone knows, and for the people listening to this who don’t, the fans lost the club overnight in 2019. I think an incredibly difficult time for the town. When me and Macca [Dave McNabb] sat down last year after the playoffs and we started planning two days later how we wanted the season to look, we wanted to build kind of a style of playing, a way of playing that would excite people. Fifteen games out of the last 15, nine clean sheets out of nine, 130, however many goals. Honestly, the emotion of today, to get nearly 9,000 fans at this level is absolutely unbelievable. I think from what the fans have been through in 2019 to achieve this today; they deserve it more than anyone.” He then spoke about the commitment of the group of players from the 1st training session in pre-season to now, with him saying “I think when you play for Bury, the pressures extremely intense. The way we play, the courage and the bravery that they’ve shown to play under the immense pressure. I can’t even begin to explain how proud we are of the group, individually, collectively. There are some incredible characters. I’m just absolutely over the moon for the group and the fans and the club and the town that we’ve managed to achieve it.” Tim then took time to speak about the fans especially after last years playoff pain, he said “Yes, I think the fans deserve it more than anyone. Like I said before, for what they went through in 2019 to not have a club and then to have this celebration today was something special. I think we’ve created memories together that will last forever. Mac [McNabb is an unbelievable manager. I’ve worked with him now for three years. We’ve had two promotions, won the Varse at Wembley. Personally, I’ve had some incredible experiences in football, but that today tops everything. To get nearly 9,000 at this level is absolutely unheard of. It broke so many records. It was incredibly hurtful after the playoffs last year. It was really, really difficult, but two days later we started planning for this season and we knew with the pitch and with the training facilities, we were extremely confident in what we can do. Like I said, to be able to break so many records in terms of most goals scored in the country, the style of play, the way the boys execute what we’ve put in place, the bravery of the show and the courage of the show to get under the ball under immense pressure, I can’t tell you how proud I am of the club, of the fans, of everybody involved.” To finish the interview Tim told us what his plans were after today “I think we’ll enjoy the next few days. I can’t even begin to explain. Anyone who’s involved in football here can understand. I can’t begin to explain the sleepless nights, the number of hours that you put in behind the scenes. For now, I just want to enjoy it and have a rest. It’s difficult because there’s that many games in this league. You can’t enjoy the wins as staff. It’s so difficult because you just focus on the next game, next session. How do we get better? How do we improve what we’re doing at the moment? I think probably for the first time this season, this and Radcliffe can actually enjoy it. We believe in what we’re doing, and it’ll be the first of many promotions that we get.” View the full article

  9. Here we go, Shakers — it all comes down to this. One game. One point. And we’re champions. Take a point against Burscough this weekend, and nothing else matters — not even the result from Lower Breck’s trip to Cheadle Town. We’ve been relentless since early January putting together a run of 14 wins on the bounce, 8 clean sheets in our last 8 games and we’re not done yet. With Dave McNabb’s men chasing a dream that’s now just 90 minutes away. This is our last home game of the season. The media push and response from the town has been nothing short of sensational with over 7000 (at the time of writing) already purchasing their tickets ready to be #PartOfIt! Let’s pack out Gigg Lane. Let’s make it loud. Let’s turn the ground into a blue and white cauldron of noise and passion. One big ask: Whatever happens, please stay off the pitch at full time. We know how much this means — but we promise, if we do it, the players and the trophy will come to you. Let’s celebrate together, the right way. So bring the energy. Bring the noise. Bring the belief. Let’s finish this journey in style and roar the lads over the line. UP THE SHAKERS. UP THE NOISE. LET’S BRING IT HOME. COME ON YOU SHAKERS!!! In Opposition – Burscough This is our third game of the season against the green-clad Linnets. In September we beat them 3-0 at home in the Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round and won 4-2 away in the league in November. The Lancashire club are currently 10th in the league table with 66 points from 45 games compared to our 106. But a recent good run has taken them to fourth position in the form table, with five wins and just one defeat in their last six games. Burscough joined the NWCFL when it was formed in 1982 and promptly won the title. They finished in 20th place last season, with both games against Bury ending at 2-2.wn. 12. Nicky Adams has announced his retirement from football. Adams has had a 22-year football career and will hang up his boots at the end of the season to take up a full-time coaching role. He returned to Gigg Lane in December to take up a fourth stint with the club. The 38-year-old began his footballing career with the Shakers, after coming through the club’s youth setup in the early 2000s. He made his first team debut in October 2005 in a 1-0 win against Darlington, in what was a debut not only for him but the first game in charge for the then manager, Chris Casper. Nicky scored the only goal of the game, which ended up being the first of 14 in his first spell at the club. His abilities were noticed by a host of clubs and his first spell at Gigg Lane came to a close with a move to League One-side Leicester City in 2008. He made his first return in May 2014 following spells at Brentford, Rochdale, Crawley Town and Rotherham United. This second stint only lasted a season, but his first promotion as a Shaker came with it, earning a top-three spot on the last day of the 2014/15 season at Tranmere. Adams’ third spell began in the summer of 2018 when he joined a newly-relegated League Two side under the stewardship of club legend Ryan Lowe. Nicky was the captain, leading by example and despite fantastic displays on the pitch, and another promotion to League One, (again at Tranmere), turmoil off the pitch spiralled the Shakers supporters into despair. Moving on again, he headed back to Northampton for a second spell, before returning north to Boundary Park and Oldham Athletic. Then joining Radcliffe and helped guide them to promotion last season as Boro hit the National League North for the first time. He reached 100 appearances for Boro before his departure in December. Since joining the Shakers again, he’s made 17 appearances, taking his total to over 200 for the club. Speaking to buryfc.co.uk, Adams said: “I think it’s perfect timing for me, I’m learning the coaching side of it. I’ve been doing that for the last few years, and I’ve got a big opportunity to go and do that full-time now. “I came here at 16 years old; I’ve come back a few times now, I’ve played over 200 games for the football club, I don’t need to tell anyone what it means to me. “I’ve had some unbelievable times here, and I’ll be forever grateful to this football club, which gave me the opportunity to go and be a professional footballer and go on the journey that I’ve been on. I’m forever grateful for that.” Manager, Dave McNabb added: “I’m not really sure how to put into words the impact that Nicky has had on me and this group since he walked back through the door in December. “His legendary status at this football club is well-known and documented. I had heard a lot about good things about his character and his personality through mutual friends and people within the game so I knew he was going to be a good lad and have a positive impact in the dressing room. Even with this knowledge, never did an expect to meet such an honest and caring man with enormous levels of integrity and with such high standard and principles. “He’s a leader amongst men. When he talks, people listen. He gets the best out of others. He is trusted and respected by everyone. He drives positive relationships within the group. He is the glue that holds things together. “I’m proud to have brought him back to HIS football club, I’m proud to have played a very small part in his illustrious career but most of all, I’m proud to be able to call him a friend. “Good luck Nicky, you’re a legend.” View the full article
  13. This last game of the season is to be dedicated to all Shakers who have passed away and, in particular, those who have left us most recently. For the past two seasons we have dedicated part of the Remembrance Day event to those fans, however, we feel that, going forward we should celebrate the memory of our Shakers family as a unique event, so that we can fully acknowledge the history and contribution our fans, players, officials, volunteers and staff have made to our club. Fans have been raising money to buy a commemorative wreath for the game which will then be placed in our Memorial Garden. Thank you to everyone who has donated. The surplus raised will be donated to Bury Hospice in memory of all past Shakers. The last game in this season, our 140th anniversary year gives us an opportunity to not only look back on the year, but the proud history of Bury Football Club. We, and all those who have entered Gigg Lane before us, are part of the rich tapestry of Bury FC and, on Saturday, we will honour and celebrate their impact with words of thanks and commemoration followed by a minutes applause. There are many who may not be with us in body today but they are always with us in spirit at our beloved Gigg Lane so let’s raise the roof with our applause and let the proud history of Bury FC ring out across the stadium and beyond. The names of fans who have passed away since November 2023 will be scrolled onto the scoreboard and are remembered here. 16. Bury won 2-0 over Cheadle Town at Broadhurst Park home of FC United as the Shakers look to close in on the title, Defender Aaron Chalmers spoke to the club after the game. Aaron Chalmers: “It weren’t the best game, if I’m being honest. We struggled to play our usual game. Fair play to Cheadle, they played their game, they played out from the back constantly. It wasn’t the best of pitches, but it should be no excuse if they can play, we should be able to, but again, we’ve won ugly, 2-0, it doesn’t matter how it is. As long as we win, one more game to go and we’ll just keep doing the same.” Aaron then spoke about on the Shakers achieving 14 consecutive wins “Yeah, immense. I’m absolutely over the moon for it. As a defender, mainly the clean sheet, that’s another one to the tally we’ve got already, but it’s just the consistency we’ve got in the team, the never-die attitude, the will to win, the will to run through brick walls for each other and just to never give up. It wasn’t the best game to play in, I don’t know about watching, but a win’s a win and it doesn’t matter how it comes at this time of the year, it’s vital to just keep going and we’ve got one more game to go and we’ll do everything we can to get that win.” He then spoke about how tough it was to get goals today against Cheadle with him saying “Yeah, I think I said it a few weeks back at St Helens, when you play teams in this league who play against Bury, they give that extra percent, 10-20%. Back against Cheadle today, they played their football, they did well in times. First half I think they were the better team, even though we scored earlier. Second half, it was a little bit more like us, but we had to play in behind quite a lot to get them second balls. But yeah, anyone in this league is unpredictable, you don’t know who’s going to win, who’s going to draw, you never know what’s going to happen, that’s football, that’s why we play it. Unless you work hard and you take your chances, that’s what’s going to happen. It’s just very unpredictable, that’s what football is about and that’s why we love it.” Aaron then gave his appreciation for the Bury faithful, with him saying “You can’t really put words into it. I had an interview with Mike Shearer’s podcast and said the reason why I joined was to play in front of thousands of fans every week. I’ve done it for the last 20 years of my career, barring two years ago, but when you sit and you’ve seen 3,000 of your home fans, you can’t really put it into words. It’s just one of those things, everyone knows in this league, Bury are massive and it was part of me joining, but standing there listening to some of the songs, I only live a stone’s throw away from here. It’s something special and you can see what it means to them. You play week in, week out, even at home or away, it’s only a few hundred people coming. It doesn’t matter; they’ve got the loyal supporters who will travel all over the country. We spoke last week; Michael and Rob came in the dressing room and spoke about the club’s history and how us as a football team are bringing it back to Bury and that’s all we can do. We can just play football and just strive for greatness, strive to be better, strive to be a better club, better players and just keep pushing because, like I said weeks ago, it’s the only way we’re going. We’re going up and we don’t want to stop anytime soon.” To finish the interview Aaron looked ahead to next weeks season finale against Burscough, with him saying “Yes, of course I am. Considering I retired two years ago and then retired last year, I’ve played another year. My wife’s not going to be happy again if I try and do another year but it is what it is, it’s football and next week it can’t come quick enough. In this tier, I keep saying, we spoke about it a few weeks ago, you’ve never seen 5,000, 6,000, 7,000 fans and especially at this tier. The club shouldn’t be here in the first place of what happened a couple of years back but you have to start somewhere and we’re starting again and we’re going up and next week’s a phenomenal atmosphere in front of up to now 5,500. Let’s see if we can get to 7,000.” View the full article
  17. Bury won 2-0 over Cheadle Town in the penultimate game of the season, Manager Dave McNabb spoke to the club to give us his thoughts. Dave McNabb: “It was a tough game, wasn’t it? I think obviously when you get to this stage of the season and the weather we’ve had over the last few weeks, the pitch is tough, it’s bobbly, it’s being prepared fairly well, I think they’ve worked night and day on it to try and get it the best they can, but it’s just not very conducive to playing the type of football that we wanted to play. And Cheadle, to be fair, I think they’re another side that does try to play, but it just made it a little bit more scrappy than we’d have liked. There are too many transitions, too many turnovers, but if you want to try and get promotions, then you’ve got to go out and do things when things get tough, and we’ve proved that today. I think they’ve probably had one shot on goal where they looked dangerous, so defensively we’ve been absolutely outstanding. We’re always going to criticise, because we want the best from the lads, so we’re always going to criticise the lack of control we had with the ball, but out of possession I thought we were outstanding, and like I said, they never caused us any problems. Decent Cheadle side, good Cheadle side, they were set up in a way that was tactically really strong, so overall really pleased. The noise in the fans, I’m sure you would have probably come on to it, but that today, that’s not Northwest Counties it’s not. If you can’t stand in front of that and just enjoy it, then you’re in the wrong sport.” He then spoke about his unchanged eleven from the side that beat Padiham last week at Gigg Lane, with him saying “I think it was just deserved. Arguably the best performance of the season last week, tough circumstances, going into the game obviously on paper, playing another playoff team. I thought the lads were fantastic and they deserved a start. You’ve got players like Rusty [Stepans] coming back available, you’ve got players on the bench knocking on the door, Lewis [Byrne] has been fantastic, but that’s part and parcel of being a squad. When you perform like that, you expect to keep your shirt and it’s only fair that the lads did.” He then added onto this by giving us and update on Reuben Jerome, he said “No, not at all. I think, again, it’s just getting really difficult now to pick a squad. Obviously, we picked up a couple of little niggles and knocks today, but it was just making sure that we had cover in every position. You’ve always got to try and plan for the worst-case scenario, a defender getting injured, a wing-back, whatever else. I think it was just making sure we had cover in all areas and, like I said, we’ll assess next week based on next week’s merits and how people train, so there’s no guarantee that the squad will stay the same.” Dave then gave an update on both Cam Fogerty and Connor Pye with him saying “We’ll assess it in the week. I think Cam’s shoulders just popped out a little bit, probably one that will probably take two to three weeks in ordinary circumstances. Obviously, with it being the last game, it’s probably going to be a case of strap it up and carry on. Connor, a touch of cramp. He’s 21 years old and getting cramp, I’m not too sure I’m very happy with that, but look, he’s worked hard today and hasn’t got a lot of quality into him in terms of what to work with, but he hasn’t played as much recently as he would have liked to, so playing nearly 90 last week and obviously a big part today, so he’s just got a touch of cramp and it was a bit precautionary.” Dave then also gave his plaudits to young Tyler James after the forward made it 5 goals in 2 games after scoring a brace today, he said “He’s a fantastic player. This is the reason why we wanted to bring him to the club. He was one of the players we were going to speak to in the summer. We didn’t think it was right at the time, but he’s got goals in him and he’s a very unassuming lad. He’s very quiet. He’s fitting straight away. It’s always tough when you move to a big club like that, especially when you’re a quiet lad and you’re not super experienced in non-league. Coming to a club like Bury, where you’ve got really established players, you’ve obviously got the weight and expectation of the club and the crowd. It can be difficult. It takes a bit of time to adjust, so I said to him all the time, just relax and just wait. Your chance will come and when it does, you’re good enough to take it and the last two games he’s proved that.” He then also praised Goalkeeper Mitch Allen who was awarded the Northwest Counties Premier Division Goalkeeper of the month award, with him saying “Another clean sheet, that eight on the bounce. I mean, I don’t know what happened to his kicking today. He was their best player for spells. He’s a phenomenal goalkeeper. He’s had to deal with some challenges in terms of a bit of a back line that’s changed a couple of different shapes, different personnel for different reasons. I know we had a sticky spot in the middle of the season, but our confidence has never waved in, in one little, tiny bit. He was the best goalkeeper in the league above the last two seasons on the bounce, so there’s no doubt that his capabilities are going to go higher.” To finish the interview Dave looked ahead to the final game of the season against Burscough, with him saying “It is, but it’s not a party. We’ve got to prep. We’ve got to go and win the game. I know that we’re pointing off, but we’re not going to be setting ourselves up to try and take a point. There’s no way. Burscough are a good side. They’ve got very experienced players down the spine of the team. They’ll be coming to try and finish the season on a high. They’ve had a few ups and downs this season, but they’re finishing really well. I think they’re second or third in the form table. So, they’re going to be coming, and look, they’re going to come and want to ruin our day because it puts them in the shot window and puts them in the manager’s plans for next season. They’re a good side. We need to be at our best to go, and we will be going out to try and win the game.” View the full article
  18. “When we get promotion, this is what we’ll sing…We are Bury, we are Bury, we are…” The words rang out at Gigg Lane on Saturday, and no-one could blame us for singing them. We were playing like champions. We were winning our 13th match on the bounce. We were keeping our seventh successive clean sheet. There were performances right through our team which could only be described as top class – especially Tyler James’s hat-trick against his former club. As a result, on and off the pitch, it felt like we could finally start to think this is it. But it isn’t. We still have two games to play, and our focus is on Cheadle. We’ll line up to face Cheadle Town at Broadhurst Park, the home of FC United of Manchester and the scene of ‘that” loss to last weeks visitors last season. Cheadle are a strong side, who set up to frustrate their opponents, and one that Dave and the lads will not be taking lightly. Get down to Moston for this final away game of the season – louder and prouder than ever. It’s a long time since being part of it has been so exhilarating. Come on you Shakers!!! In Opposition – Cheadle Town Like us, the Cheshire club are in their second season in the Premier Division. They’re in 14th place, and have won only two and lost four of their last six games. Both victories have been away from home, and the match against us might feel like an away game as Shakers fans pile into FC United’s ground in numbers. We beat them 3-0 at Gigg Lane back in August, and did the double last term – 2-1 at home and 2-0 away. Town started life as Grasmere Rovers in 1961 and changed their name when they joined the NWCFL in 1983. They ended last season in 13th position. Admission & TicketsTickets are still on sale via Cheadle’s TicketSource platform, and we encourage everyone to purchase their in advance of the game. This will allow matchday turnstile operators to scan your tickets, and prevent unnecessary queues to allow everyone to enter the stadium ahead of kick-off. The ground will be open from 1:00pm, with early arrival suggested for those who wish to be seated in the 500 available seats. We would appreciate supporters showing courtesy to those with greater difficulty standing. Tickets will be on sale until 1:00pm on the day of the game, so to guarantee entry make sure you purchase your ticket in advance. 22. Bury won 4-0 over Padiham taking the points total to 103 as the Shakers looked to close in on a title victory Bryan Ly and Hatrick hero Tyler James spoke to the club to give us their thoughts. Tyler James started the interview by speaking about his hatrick with him saying “It was a special moment. I saw the chances and took them. I got the win, so it’s all good from there.” Further adding “I loved the moment. I’ve seen the fans cheer and smile. It was a special moment for me” Bryan then gave his thoughts on the game, with him saying “We knew coming into the game that we had to win. Obviously, everyone was refreshing Twitter last night about the lower breck game, but when we come into the changing room, that’s all forgotten, and we know the quality that we have in the changing room. We knew that if we started off really quicker, then we’d blow them away and that’s what we’ve done. We’ve blown away by four goals. Every time they had the ball; we were on top of them. I just think we showed our class today.” Bryan then spoke about the tactical change to two 10s for this game, he said “We’ve adapted really well in training. Obviously, me and Tyler, we’ve played with each other previously a few years ago and we know each other’s game. When the gaffer told me I was back starting today and I knew I was in the 10 with Tyler, I knew it was just going to work. Obviously, you’ve seen it there. It was just fluid football. We were just bopping it side to side, and we took our chances. Well, he took his chances and bringing a match ball home. So, yes, that was good.” Tyler then gave his thoughts on the system, he said “Yes, it’s good because different positions bring different opportunities. I like playing with Bryan because we both know what we do and we both bounce off each other, even in training, just passing around. So, when we came on here, we knew what we were going to do and pass him off the park.” Bryan and Tyler then both looked ahead to next weeks clash against Cheadle with them saying. Bryan Ly: “Yes, no game’s going to be a pushover. We’ve got two games left. Obviously, if you told us at the start of the season that we had two games left to win a title, you’d say that. So, we’re just going to take it game by game like we have been doing all season and turn up Saturday, not expecting to just brush them over. We know we’ll be in for a game and hopefully, obviously, do what we’ve done today and blow them off the park.” Tyler James: “Get behind us, support us as much as you can because support means a lot. We’ve got to get them six points to win the league on the 19th.” View the full article
  23. Bury won 4-0 over Padiham with a dominant display as they looked to close out the season, Manager Dave McNabb spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game. Dave McNabb: “I think so. Probably somewhat up in one way, which is outstanding. Everything, the warm-up was the best we’ve had all season. The intensity at the start of the game, first half, brilliant. 2-0, blew them away. Could have been more, should have been more. Second half, even better and then you add in the noise coming from the sidelines. It was actually enjoyable listening to them. It’s a shame that the game was going on at times because it was just so intimidating. It’s so intimidating. Look, them being our 12th man at times, got us over the line in tough games. Today was one that he could probably enjoy a little bit more in terms of the performance and the results. We haven’t done anything yet. We haven’t achieved what we set out to. We’ve got two big games, and we need to go and try and win both of them. Dave then spoke through the two changes to the starting 11 with Bryan Ly and Connor Pye coming into the 11, he said “Obviously, we know Rusty’s [Stepans] picked up a bit of a hamstring injury last week, so he wasn’t available for selection today. So, Conor’s been chomping at the bit really to get in. He’s been a little bit unlucky that Rusty’s been playing so well. So that was a no-brainer and then the second one, we just felt that having a different type of movement and different options from the top line in terms of the way that they set up. So, we’ve done our homework on Paddy for today. Look, it worked. Bryans again, he’s had a tough spell in terms of form, had a bit of a drop in form. But form’s temporary and class is permanent, as they say. So, he’s worked hard the last few weeks. When he’s come off the bench, he’s made big impacts. And look, he deserves his chance, and he’s took it today.” Dave then spoke about his tactical changes throughout the season with him saying “Yes, so I think it’s about having the fundamentals in place and the philosophy, like you said. We wanted to try and make sure we played a little bit more than what we had done for the spell. I think we’ve been solid. We’ve almost made sure that the back line was defensively solid and then tried to work our way forward. So I think you’re starting to see some of that now. In terms of two number 10s, two number 9s, they’ve got the freedom to play rotations. So there was no set formation when we set it up today. It was around having the back line set, the midfield set, and the rest. Go on and express yourself and enjoy yourselves. Attacking flexibility is something that we’ve seen all season in terms of players in different positions.” Dave then spoke about the importance of having the full squad as they head into the final games “It’s massive. You can’t win things. You can’t compete at the top of a league with 11 good players. You do need that squad of 17 and 18. That’s what we’ve been fortunate enough to have here. The lads have bought into it, and I think that’s why you’re seeing spells where whether you’re talking about Tyler [James], whether you’re talking about Reece [Kendall] at times, Josh Gregory, Bryan Ly, they’ve all spent time on the bench. They’ve all spent periods on the bench where the forms dropped and whatever, but they stayed bought into it. They stayed working hard. They’ve been listening. Then sooner or later, you get your chance, and then it’s down to you to take it and look at the squad and the togetherness in the group just through the roof at the minute. We asked them today to be brave. We asked them to go and be brave and enjoy themselves, and I think that’s got to be the message for next week.” Dave then spoke about the return of Will Callaghan to the side with him saying “We’ve been watching Will from afar. He’s been playing really, really well, obviously with Rusty being injured and unavailable. We need to make sure we’ve got options on that side of the pitch. Connor hasn’t played as much as he’d like, as we said before, so we’re just worried about whether he’ll be able to get through the 90, but Connor was outstanding, and Will was really good when he came on as well.” Dave then finally looked ahead to next weeks clash with Cheadle away at FC United “I think we’ve got to go and win the game next week and put ourselves in a really good position. The full focus this week is going to be on a really tough game. It’s an away game, neutral, whatever you want to call it. Cheadle have got the way that he sets them up tactically. They’ve got a way of playing that’s quite awkward and quite difficult to adapt to, so they’ve definitely got dangerous players. We just need to make sure that we’re up forward and make sure we’re planned and prepped and ready to go, and if we play like we do today, no-one’s going to stop us.” View the full article
  24. PERFECT PITCH is a new collaboration between Walk the Plank and English National Opera – a space where football and opera collide. An 8-week programme of community connection and workshops, some with Bury FC fans at Gigg Lane, culminated last week during the match between Bury v Squires Gate, with an operatic and football chant try out from the terraces, and a half time performance. The half time performance featured ENO soprano Carrie-Ann Williams, and baritone Patrick Keefe, accompanied by the PERFECT PITCH choir and the orchestra of English National Opera. The choir performed a version of the Toreador song, from the opera Carmen, with new words developed by the Bury fans during the workshops. The combined choir of singers and football fans of 115 included Bury FC and Manchester Laces Fans, Bridgewater Hall Singers, Bury Fire Choir, Pop Vox Choir and Wigan Choral Society. Lauren Monaghan-Pisano from English National Opera said, “It has been a joy to get stuck into our first programme delivered in Greater Manchester with brilliant partners Walk the Plank, working closely with football clubs and singing groups to build our PERFECT PITCH choir. We are delighted with how much people enjoyed this first sharing of the project, and we can’t wait to connect with more people through opera as we grow the project over the coming months.” Lead Image Credit: Debs Parr View the full article
  25. Shakers.. there are only 3 games to go! The final month of the season starts now As this Saturday we play host to Padiham. We need you down in numbers, loud and proud! Our run of 12 successive victories, along with clean sheets in every one of our last six matches has been superb. But on their own they win us nothing. The only way we can be sure of that league title is to win every match. If you’ve been to Gigg Lane on a match day, you know what a fantastic atmosphere there is. If you haven’t, just come and sample it. Unlike last weekend, there won’t be any opera singers or choirs, but the atmosphere In the ground keeps getting better and better. With all that support, it must be very difficult to play against the Shakers at Gigg Lane. But Padiham are having a good season and will be difficult to beat. They’re currently 4th in the table and aiming for the best finish they can muster. So be there and get behind the lads. Be louder than ever and prouder than ever. In Opposition – Padiham Padiham won the NWCFL Premier Division title in 2013 and had three seasons in the Northern Premier League. They’ve improved enormously since we beat them 5-1 at the Ruby Civil Arena back in July and have lost only seven out of 43 matches. They also have a long and proud history, dating back to 1878, and were among the top clubs in Lancashire for 10 years. But that era ended when the paying of players was legalised and the Football League formed.
