  22. We are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Gabriel Johnson. The 28-year-old joins the Shakers after leaving Guiseley this summer. Many were impressed with his efforts as ‘Trialist B’ in the game against Chester last weekend and we are delighted to confirm he’s signed officially. Johnson spent four seasons at Guiseley across two spells, playing in two Covid effected seasons before returning in August 2023 for a second spell with the club. He was top scorer for the club in the 2023/24 season, scoring 22 goals across league & cup. Manager, Dave McNabb said: “Really pleased to get Gabs in, he’s a player we identified and spoke to early in the summer and one I’m really excited about. “Gabs will give us more firepower and provide even more competition in attacking areas having the capability to play as a striker or anywhere behind a striker. “He gave an insight into what he is capable of in the Chester game and there’s certainly more to come once he’s fully fit and sharp.” The Sheffield-born player spent time in his youth with Manchester United’s under-14s and Leeds United’s under-17s before joining Sheffield United’s Academy for a season. His playing career has also included stints at Hallam FC, Sheffield FC, and Doncaster Rovers View the full article

  27. Good morning, everyone, Over the past few months, I’ve been working on a project very close to my heart — an online database designed to preserve and celebrate the complete history of Bury FC. The goal is simple but important: to create a comprehensive, freely accessible resource for all fans and the club itself, ensuring that our proud history is properly documented and available for generations to come. At present, the database already includes: All league matches, players, and league positions from the club’s formation through to 2019. However, there are still some significant gaps that need to be filled, particularly regarding player data such as appearances, goals, and disciplinary records (e.g., yellow/red cards). While much of the website’s core functionality is in place, it remains very much a work in progress. This is where I’m hoping the Bury FC community can lend a hand. 🔧 I’m looking for volunteers to support in two key areas: 1️⃣ Testing the current functionality Your feedback would be hugely appreciated — are there any bugs, glitches, or areas where the site could be improved? Suggestions for usability, design, or additional features are all very welcome. 2️⃣ Data curation and contribution Once we’re confident that the platform works as intended, I’d love to work with anyone willing to help populate the missing player records and ensure the database is as complete and accurate as possible. Please note: Currently, placeholder data is being used, so you may see match dates defaulting to 1970 and some players listed as 125 years old. These are simply markers until proper data can be curated. Ultimately, my hope is for this project to become the official historical archive for Bury FC — a free, collaborative resource that everyone can explore and contribute to. If you’re interested in getting involved, I’d really welcome your support and feedback. 👉 The website is live and can be accessed here: https://stats.uptheshakers.co.uk If you're interested in testing and contributing, please email enquiries@uptheshakers.co.uk 📸 Below are a few screenshots to give you a preview of what’s there so far. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and hopefully working with many of you to make this something special. Up The Shakers! 31. We are delighted to confirm our involvement in the Football Supporters’ Association’s Women’s Trophy, as part of our pre-season friendly with Chester this Sunday. It’s the first friendly of the summer, for Jason Jarrett’s side as he looks to assess the squad. 12 players have been retained from a very successful season for our Women’s side. Click here to view the retained list. Off the field, this weekend our fixtures are dedicated to our Month of Action in support of Mind, the national mental health charity, aimed at promoting mental wellbeing and reducing the stigma around mental health issues. All proceeds from these matches will go directly to support the work of Mind at a local level, helping them provide essential services and support to those in our community who need it most. FSA Women’s TrophyThe inaugural FSA Women’s Trophy was launched in 2023, and runs alongside the long-standing Brian Lomax Trophy and FSA Shield games in the men’s game. All three trophies celebrate football club community-ownership. The introduction of the fixture stemmed from a project called ‘Nevertheless, She Persisted’ which was a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the ban on women’s football, as well as the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the lifting of the ban. The project saw two fixtures (one in the South and one in the North) take place between four community-owned women’s teams (Enfield Town Women v Grays Athletic Women and FC United of Manchester Women v Clapton CFC) back in the summer of 2021. The current holders are Clapton CFC Women, who beat Enfield Town 3-1 at the Dave Bryant Stadium last July, which meant they retained the title having beaten FC United of Manchester in 2023. Richard Irving, Network Manager at the FSA said: Our women’s first team play in the North West Women’s Regional League Premier Division, whilst Chester play in Division 1 South of the same league. Deborah Dilworth, head of women’s football at the FSA added: On the Day & In the GroundOur Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Tickets are still on sale via our ticketing page on our website. Turnstiles will be open from 1pm. Pay on the day is also available.
