A brace from Kai Evans plus goals from Tom Carr and Owen Robinson completed a comfortable 4-0 home win for Bury over visitors Emley.
There was only one change to the Shakers lineup that won the week before with Bailey Sloane preferred to Louis Isherwood in defence. Rustam Stepans was back on the bench having missed the last three weeks with concussion but the home side were without their manager in the dugout as he served the first of a three match ban.
In the early exchanges it was the visitors Emley who carved out the first real chances of the day. Former Shaker Gabriel Johnson lead an attacking front three that saw Aaron Haswell’s shot deflected away while Jack Cowgill headed over the bar from a free kick.
Bury grew into the match. A Kai Evans pass was threaded to Mo Touray who set up Leo Graham for a shot that went over the bar. Tom Carr then had a great chance when he got in behind the defence. He went down under pressure from the Pewits keeper yet neither a penalty for a foul nor a booking for simulation was doled out.
Next Touray stole the ball in Emley’s half and played in Owen Robinson. His lob over goalkeeper Ben Bottomley seemed destined to land in the net but was deflected wide and out for a corner.
Bury then had a trio of chances. Carr played in Robinson to shoot. His first effort hit the post, his second was saved by Bottomley. Granted a third chance Robinson laid the ball off to the oncoming Touray who blasted an effort onto the crossbar.
The goal was coming for the Shakers and it was fitting that Robinson would be the one to put it away. A perfect cross from the left by Connor Pye was headed in to open the scoring.
Five minutes later the score was doubled and again it was a cross from Pye that unlocked the defence. A fiercer effort into the box this time and Tom Carr ghosted between two defenders and buried the chance for 2-0.
Finding their groove Bury looked like scoring every time they went forward. A passing move through the middle saw Touray, Carr and Robinson create an opening for Leo Graham but he could only fire over the bar.
The Shakers third goal came from a free kick out on the left. Kai Evans with a goal of the season contender curled an effort to the far top corner that Bottomley at full stretch didn’t get close to.
The away side couldn’t match the Shakers but nearly claimed a goal back before the break. Joe Stacey arriving late for a corner placed a shot that Mitch Allen saved at the bottom corner.
After halftime Bury still showed the type of quality that had now seen them score eighteen goals in their last three home matches. Evans cross was met by Robinson but the onrushing Bottomley did enough to block the shot.
Evans and Robinson combined again shortly afterwards and grabbed the fourth goal of the day. Evans from a narrow angle fired in to put the match beyond a doubt.
The search for a fifth goal never stopped. Substitute Anthony Dudley came the closest heading one chance over, another that hit the post and when played in by Graham his left footed volley was brilliantly saved by the Emley keeper.
The 4-0 win underlined another storming performance from the Shakers, though it is a credit to how well they have performed of late that a four goal victory felt almost routine.
