Bury FC recently marked an exciting step in coach development, as around 20 of our coaches, representing our junior, adult and walking football teams, attended the first session in a new Continuous Professional Development (CPD) series in partnership with Manchester FA.
The session was delivered by John Oliver, A Licensed Coach and Coach Developer for Manchester FA, combining classroom-based learning with practical on-pitch sessions. The CPD is designed to enhance coaching standards across the club, helping our coaches deliver high-quality sessions for players of all ages and abilities.
Learning Together, Growing Together
The evening began with an interactive classroom session, where John guided coaches through essential coaching principles, session planning, communication and reflective practice. Coaches shared insights and explored ways to develop sessions tailored for players ranging from grassroots juniors to adult football participants.
The theory session was followed by a practical segment on the pitch, where coaches could see the concepts in action, try new drills and discuss how to adapt coaching techniques for different age groups and abilities.
Casey Lynchey, Head of Operations and Community, reflected on the session:
