Bury Football Club has taken another exciting step towards building for the future with the creation of a new Emerging Talent Group, designed to identify, recruit and develop promising young players from across the local area.
The initiative reflects the club’s long term commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and strengthening the pathway into senior football at Gigg Lane. By providing ambitious young players with opportunities to train and compete in a professional environment, the Emerging Talent Group will act as an important bridge between grassroots football and the club’s senior setup.
On Saturday 9th May, almost 40 players were invited to Gigg Lane to take part in a series of trial matches, giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the club’s First Team and Under-21s management teams.
The trials featured a high standard of competition, with players demonstrating their technical quality, athleticism and determination throughout the day.
Club staff were impressed not only by the level of talent on display, but also by the attitude and commitment shown by the players involved. The event marked the first major step in establishing the new programme, which aims to create a sustainable development pathway for talented young footballers in the region.
Players selected to join the Emerging Talent Group will be closely involved with the club throughout pre-season, taking part in training sessions and featuring in a number of matches as they continue their development.
This exposure will allow coaching staff to assess players in competitive and professional environments while helping individuals adapt to the demands of senior football.
The first signing to the Emerging Talent Group is 20 year old forward Oliver Hodgson, who spent last season at Bacup Borough in the North West Counties First Division North, scoring 23 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions.
The creation of the Emerging Talent Group underlines Bury Football Club’s ambition to invest in young players and strengthen its connection with the local football community.
By identifying and supporting emerging talent early, the club hopes to create future opportunities both for players and for the continued progression of the football club itself.
Further updates regarding the Emerging Talent Group and pre-season fixtures, including a trip to face Bacup Borough, will be announced in due course.
