We’re proud to announce that we will take on near neighbours Radcliffe as part of our 2025/26 pre-season campaign, with the Paul Hilton Trophy up for grabs in an inaugural fixture which will take place annually with alternating venues every summer, this year taking place at Neuven Stadium on Saturday 26th July, 3pm kick-off.

The tie pays tribute to late Radcliffe Chairman Paul Hilton who passed away suddenly at the end of September, a week before the two sides met in the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. His passing left a lasting impact on everyone at Radcliffe, following the loss of a man who dedicated the last eight years of his life to the vast improvement and success of the football club, the community, and the town.

Bury FC Chair Gareth Castick, said:

“We are really excited to contest the first match for the Paul Hilton Trophy. It’s a fantastic legacy for Paul, who was integral to everything achieved at Radcliffe, and his loss was felt by everyone in the borough.

“Having an annual competitive friendly between the two clubs will be great for the fans and cements the relationship with our close neighbours.”

New Radcliffe FC Chairman Billy Quarmby, formerly Head of Football Logistics before taking on his current position, was appointed at the end of October and has been at the forefront of the annual fixture’s organisation.

He added: “Following conversations with Gareth Castick around a potential pre-season fixture, it felt only right that we honour the memory of Paul Hilton in a meaningful way. What better way to do so than by announcing the newly-formed Paul Hilton Trophy, an annual pre-season fixture between Radcliffe and our neighbours Bury.”

“This match will not only serve as valuable preparation for the season ahead, but it will also carry added significance as we come together to celebrate Paul’s life and legacy. By introducing the Paul Hilton Trophy, we’re adding a competitive edge to what promises to be a respectful and spirited encounter, with both clubs playing for something truly special.”

Tickets for the fixture will be available to purchase in due course.
