Bury FC are pleased to confirm the arrival of defender Luke Tabone, who has joined the Club on a 28-day loan from Southport.
The commanding centre-back adds further depth and experience to the Shakers’ defence. Standing at 6ft 4in, Tabone brings a strong physical presence, aerial ability and leadership qualities at the heart of the backline.
The 27-year-old boasts valuable experience at both club and international levels. He has represented the Maltese National Team, first receiving a call-up in March 2023 for UEFA European Championship qualifiers against North Macedonia and Italy, and making the matchday squad against North Macedonia. Tabone went on to make his senior international debut in June 2024, coming on as a second-half substitute against Greece.
Tabone began his football journey in the youth ranks of Nadur Youngsters on the island of Gozo in Malta, before spending time in the academy system at Burnley. He later returned to Nadur Youngsters in 2018, where he made his senior debut and continued his development.
In 2023, he moved to Haverfordwest County, playing his part in a historic campaign for the Welsh side. That season saw the club achieve their highest-ever points tally in a 12-team Cymru Premier, as well as secure qualification for the UEFA Conference League.
Luke joined Southport in June 2025, following his spell with Haverfordwest County, and has gone on to make eight appearances for the Sandgrounders.
He now links up with the Shakers on a short-term basis and will be looking to make an immediate impact during his time at Gigg Lane.
