We don’t have long to recover from that almost last gasp home win on Saturday. Come Wednesday evening it’s off to Avro FC’s Vestacare Stadium in Oldham for our second NPL match.
Newcastle Town gave us a thorough examination, and we passed. Although we won by only one goal, there could – and arguably should – have been others.
It will be a different story at Avro. Their tactical approach will be to attack rather than defend. But we can have every confidence in our back line, which performed well in the pre-season matches and against Town.
Almost exactly a year ago, we beat Avro 2-1 at the Vestacare in the FA Cup preliminary round. That alone will provide them with ample motivation to go all out for a win on Wednesday.
It’s not difficult to get to the Vestacare by car or public transport, so we urge our amazing and famously enthusiastic fans to get there and be part of it. Early season points seem to be worth double as time goes on, so let’s get behind the lads. Up, up, up the Shakers!!!
In Opposition – Avro

Avro started their third season in the NPL with an away fixture at Stafford Rangers, and won 2-0.
In 2024-25, they had what they regarded as a good season, and finished in seventh place. Like us, in the close season they focused on strengthening their squad, and feel they succeeded by signing several young players. The youngsters have already shown “hunger, enthusiasm and raw talent”, according to chairman Rob Fuller.
Launched in 1936 as a works team for aircraft manufacturers AV Roe, the club moved in 2017 from their ground in Failsworth to the new Vestacare stadium.

Parking Facilities: Limited parking facilities are available at The Vestacare Stadium on a first-come, first-served basis. The car park will open at 5:30pm, shortly before the turnstiles become operational. Given the expected high attendance for this fixture, we strongly encourage supporters to arrive early to secure parking spaces.
When our stadium car park reaches capacity, we respectfully request that supporters refrain from parking along White Bank Road. This consideration helps maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the surrounding area and prevents congestion that could impact local residents and emergency services.
For those parking in the surrounding residential areas, we ask that you park responsibly and show respect for our neighbours. Please ensure you do not block driveways, gates, or restrict access for local residents.
The Vestacare Stadium typically operates an ANPR system within the car park. However, for this particular fixture, the ANPR system will not be in operation, providing more flexible parking arrangements for supporters.
