CONGLETON-2025-A-GRAPHIC-819x1024.jpg

It was FA Cup heartbreak for The Shakers on Tuesday as we were on the wrong side of 2-0 scoreline in what was a tough encounter against a very strong Stalybridge side.

We are back into league action this Saturday and Dave and his Team will be looking to right the wrongs from Tuesday night as we travel to Cheshire to face Congleton.

The Bears almost won promotion last season so we know that it will once again be another tough game against a strong side, which will be followed just 48 hours later by a third in nine days against none other than Celtic.

As we face these challenges, we must take encouragement from the results of our two previous league matches. We had no great problem in defeating Newcastle Town at home and earned a creditable draw away to Avro.

So please – let’s tame the Bears. Let’s have noisy numbers at the Cleric Stadium, and then at Gigg Lane on Monday. Get behind the lads. Up the Shakers!

In Opposition – Congleton Town

Town have been around as a notable force in regional leagues since 1901 and last season narrowly missed out on promotion to the NPL Premier Division.

They finished third in the league – top of the four play-off places. In the semi-final they beat Chasetown 4-3 on penalties but lost 2-0 to Hednesford Town in the final.

So far this time round they’ve lost 3-1 away to Sporting Khalsa, drawn 2-2 with Mossley at home and on Tuesday lost 1-0 at Stafford Rangers.
