The Shakers’ comfortable 2-0 win at home to Barnoldswick Town was our ninth in succession – a run we aim to continue and clinch promotion. And what a treat to be roared on by another big gate: 3,497.
Just six games to go – three at home and three away. This weekend it’s FC St Helens away, followed in a week’s time by a visit to their neighbours, Pilkington.
Then it’s back to Gigg Lane on March 29 for the visit of Squires Gate – currently second to bottom. The mood music that day will be provided not only by the South Stand but a choir organised by our partners British National Opera and the Walk the Plank project.
There were fireworks the last time we played FC St Helens – all around the ground, because it was Bonfire Night. But on the pitch there was a distinct lack of excitement. We were clearly the better team, but missed a host of chances and had to settle for 1-1.
Now we’re top of the table with 91 points from 40 games. With six to go – three each home and away – we have our eyes firmly fixed on promotion. So we’re hoping plenty of fans will be making both trips to St Helens to support the lads, loud and proud as usual! Up the Shakers!!!
In Opposition – FC St Helens
St Helens are having an up-and-down first season in tier nine after their promotion from Division One North. They’ve won only two of their last six matches, leaving them in eighth position with 61 points.
They did us a big favour two weeks ago with a 3-2 win at Rammy. But then last weekend they slumped to a 5-1 defeat by Lower Breck, who are breathing down our necks in second place.
