Objective achieved! We prepared for this game by bouncing back in style from the defeat at Lower Breck by beating Burscough 4-2 away. The first 45 minutes were probably the best we’ve played all season, even counting the stunning 8-0 defeat of Longridge Town. So we travel once again to Merseyside with heads held high.
But it was disappointing to present Burscough with a gift goal early in the second half, and after that it was a struggle. Quality told in the end, and overall it was another great day for us.
It was good to welcome forward Pat Jarrett back into the team for his first league start for the club, but sad to say farewell to experienced Lewis Alessandra who played his final game at the weekend.
If you hadn’t already seen, experienced midfielder Nicky Adams re-joined the club for a fourth spell over the weekend, and subject to paperwork being approved, he will be avaliable for selection this week.
Now it’s onward and upward as we begin a busy and demanding December placed third in the league and with games in hand. First call is at Litherland REMYCA. We beat them twice last season – 4-2 at home and 6-0 away. Either score would suit us this time round – it’s the points that matter. Come on you Shakers!!
Saturday’s highlights and interviews are available to watch below:
In Opposition – Litherland REMYCA
We can expect a tough game at REMYCA, who are currently 19th in the league with 26 points from 23 matches. They’ve won two and lost three of their last six games, including a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of top-of-the-table Ramsbottom United.
The club’s goal is a mid-table position, and they have a clear policy of giving high-flying teams like the Shakers a thorough examination.
They greatly value their place in the NWC premiership, and after several seasons flirting with relegation appointed one of their own players – popular striker Colin McDonald – as manager. That was four years ago, they and he are still here, and last season finished 12th.
