It wouldn’t be surprising if Longridge Town come to Gigg Lane fired up with determination to take revenge for the 5-1 defeat we inflicted on them last month, when they visit Gigg Lane this weekend.

It was a score that perhaps flattered the Shakers back in October, conceding three penalties in the game but after overcoming that storm and Mitch Allen saving two of the penalties, the result was empthatic in the end.

Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Charnock Richard proved that we won’t have it all our own way as we look to assume top spot in the league, and with three draws in the last four at home manager Dave McNabb will be looking of more of type of finishes supplied by second-half substitute Alex Cherera.

After a difficult first half, we were lucky to be only 1-0 down to lively Charnock Richard and were rescued by an unforgettable solo goal from our startlet Cherera on 71 minutes. Check out the goal below on the highlights, as well as comment from Tim Lees and midfielder Cam Fogerty.

The challenge now is to extend it to 21 games. So once again we need lots of fans and plenty of noise to help us that run going. So come fans, and come on you Shakers!!!

You can relive all the action from Tuesday and hear post match reaction from Tim Lees and Cam Fogerty below.

    In Opposition – Longridge Town

It’s not been a good season so far for Longridge. They’ve lost their last two matches – at home against Glossop North End and away to South Liverpool – and are 16th in the table with 27 points from 22 matches.

Longridge were promoted from the NWCFL’s Division One to the Premiership in 2019, but their first two seasons were curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

They then turned down the chance of playing in the Northern Premier League. Lee Ashcroft – still their manager – explained: “We’re not ready… We’ve got to establish ourselves at this level for the next two or three years, maybe longer.”

Last season they finished 19th. They drew 1-1 at Gigg Lane and we beat them 2-1 in the return fixture.
