This is it: the real deal. We’ve strengthened our squad, had a strong pre-season, and hammered South Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend. So we go into league action full of confidence – and with good reason.
There’s every indication that we’re ready to compete at this level. The pre-season was designed to test our credentials. It did, and we more than survived.
Now it’s the real thing, and we’re all set to take on teams more experienced, better organised and more powerful than those we faced in 2024-25.
But we have many strengths: retention of a good proportion of last season’s hugely successful squad; excellent recruitment in the close season; fine pitch-side leadership; a thriving club backed big-time by the local community; and last but not least that massive fan base.
We all know what our aim is, so let’s get off to a flying start. Be there, pack the seats, and let the noise be heard far and wide. Come on you Shakers!!!
In Opposition – Newcastle Town
New league, new challenges. But we start at Gigg Lane. Having such a fan base is a terrific advantage, but it means every team will again come to Bury looking for a big scalp.
Town finished 16th out of 22 teams in NPL Div1W last season. They make the journey from North Staffordshire on the back of a 4-0 Emirates FA Cup game win at home against Stourport Swifts, of the Midland League Premier Division.
Their home is the Lyme Valley Stadium and their history goes back to a Sunday league team in 1964 via a 1986 merger with Parkway Clayton.
