    Bury News Feed

Well it’s been some season and the final league home match of our first campaign back in our Gigg Lane home is now upon us as we welcome Padiham FC to Gigg Lane.

With just one point separating the top three clubs in the league and all three sides having only two fixtures remaining it’s still very much all to play for as we continue our hunt for promotion to the Northern Premier League.

We last met Padiham back in August where goals from the now departed Jack Lenehan and Darius Palma sealed all three points from the Shakers.

We’ve been on a long journey through the NWCFL Premier Division since then and we are a much changed side with only three players from the match day squad of sixteen remaining at Gigg Lane. (Andy Briggs, Connor Comber and Gaz Peet)

This could be your last chance to cheers the lads on at Gigg Lane this season (depending on our final position) So we want to see the ground BOUNCING! Get down in numbers, bring your friends, bring your family… Bring as many as you can and create the same phenomenal atmosphere you have all season!

As you have seen, South Stand tickets for the last couple of home games have sold out so if you plan to sit there this weekend head over to our ticket portal and secure yours now!

Speaking of the last couple of games, we came out 2-1 winners on Thursday evening in a hard fought battle in less than ideal circumstances against near neighbours Ramsbottom United. You can check out the highlights and post match interviews from that game below.

    In Opposition – Padiham FC

Founded in November 1878, Padiham Football Club, initially known as the ‘Caldersiders’, quickly became one of Lancashire’s soccer pioneers and a prominent team in England. The club was a founding member of the Lancashire Football Association’s Senior Cup in 1879 and achieved success in the F.A. Cup during the 1883-84 season. Their early encounters included significant victories over Burnley F.C. and matches drawing crowds exceeding 2,000 at their original ground near River Calder, leased from the Shuttleworth family.

However, the establishment of the Football League and the legalization of professionalism in football shifted the competitive landscape, leading to a decline in Padiham’s fortunes. The club struggled to attract skilled players and financial constraints forced them into lower leagues.

World War One halted their activities, and they remained inactive until their revival in 1949 at the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground. Over the years, Padiham saw various league changes and spent significant funds on ground upgrades. They rejoined the North West Counties Football League in 2000, won the Premier Division in 2013, and after a brief stint in the Northern Premier League, returned to the North West Counties League in 2015.
