After 10 successive wins, it’s getting harder by the week for us to keep our feet on the ground. But we take nothing for granted as we head for Pilkington backed by what we hope will be 1,000 noisy Shakers fans.
Lower Breck kept up the pressure at the top by winning 3-1 at lowly Colne on Tuesday night. They’ve now played the same number of games and are just three points behind.
Our margin of victory at Pilkington’s neighbours FC St Helens last weekend was as slim as it can be. But that was down to a string of outstanding saves by goalkeeper Joe Mason. We dominated the game especially in the first 45.
Hopefully, Pilkington’s 3G surface will enable us to play the kind of attractive football we’ve so often produced of late. We beat Pilkington 2-0 at home in November. DJ Pedro – then on loan – marked his home debut with a goal, and Rustam Stepans scored the other. Since then, both have clocked up a remarkable tally of goals and assists.
We’re back at Gigg Lane for more great football on the 29th. Meanwhile, St Helens here we come for the second successive Saturday. Loud and proud as usual! Up The Shakers!
In Opposition – Pilkington
A 3-3 draw at FC Isle of Man last weekend gave a lift to Pilkington, who’ve won only one and lost three of their last six matches.
They’re 21st in the table – one place higher than when we last played them. Last season we beat them twice in what was for both clubs our first in the premier division.
As their name suggests, Pilkington started life as a team representing the famous St Helens glassworks. They’re now a thriving community club with three men’s senior teams, three women’s, 30 junior and youth teams and a walking football section.
