It all looked very straightforward. After winning three out of four successive home games, we had a week to prepare for this away cup-tie.
Then came the shock of having just 24 hours notice to replay the previous tie against Wythenshawe Town on Tuesday evening.
Despite being unable to field our strongest team, we won again.
We now focus on the weekend, the tie at Runcorn goes ahead, and we go into it with confidence on the back of a series of excellent performances.
We beat the Linnets in our recent NPLW game at home. The score was only 1-0, but there really was only one team in it.
The return fixture in the cup will be tough, because they have a point to prove. But so do we. More than one. Up the Shakers!!!
In Opposition – Runcorn Linnets

As we were winning – again! – at Wythenshawe, the Linnets were cruising to a 3-0 league victory at home to Kidsgrove Athletic.
They have followed up three excellent seasons in the league with a great start this time. They’re currently fourth in the table, with three wins and two draws from six matches – one place ahead of us on goal difference.
It will be interesting to compare Saturday’s attendance with the Linnets record gate for this competition: 1,078 against FC United of Manchester in October 2021 in the third qualifying round. The Rebel Reds won 2-0.
