The season has opened with balance and belief, and the next stop on the path is Stalybridge.
Four points from a win and a draw; two goals scored – both by central defenders – and only one conceded.
Now it’s on to the Emirates FA Cup against opponents from the same league. It’s early days, but so far we and Celtic have identical records – a win and a draw – so a highly competitive clash is guaranteed.
It was a tough game at Avro on Wednesday. Both teams had chances to clinch it, and by the end of the season it will probably look to have been a good result for us.
And those missed chances? They’ll just incentivise our top-class players as they go into this next game. So head for Stalybridge and encourage the lads to more Cup heroics.
Up the Shakers!
In Opposition – Stalybridge Celtic

Celtic trace their history back to 1909 and have long been a strong non-league side in this part of the world. They have many successes to their credit – not least twice getting through to the FA Cup second round proper.
They were sixth in the league last season, and have made a decent start to the new season. They drew 1-1 at Vauxhall Motors on Saturday, and despite not being on top of their game won 1-0 at home to Atherton Collieries on Tuesday.
Former Shakers Ruben Jerome, Jordan Butterworth, Jack Tinning, Charlie Doyle and Andy Scarisbrick are all within the Stalybridge Celtic playing squad.
