We welcome Ryan Lowe and Nicky Adams back to Gigg Lane as Ryan prepares for his first full season as Wigan manager and Nicky as his first-team coach.
The Latics completed their official pre-season programme on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Tranmere Rovers. Wigan may see this is a gentle bonus fixture, but it gives our players a chance to test themselves against a team from a League One club.
There’s quiet satisfaction at Gigg Lane with the outcome of our pre-season programme – played six, won three, drawn two, lost one.
The 3-2 defeat at Radcliffe on Saturday was perhaps a fitting outcome to a great, competitive game in which we more than held our own. It means Radcliffe hold the trophy in memory of their late chairman, the inspirational Paul Hilton for the next 12 months.

In Opposition – Wigan Athletic

Wigan have been in the Football League for the last 46 years and have had some remarkable ups and downs. They were in the Premier League from 2005 to 2013, beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final as a prelude to relegation to the Championship.
They’re now in League One, and three years ago survived as a club only thanks to a takeover by Wigan-born billionaire businessman Mike Danson. He came to the rescue after the club was served with a winding up order by HM Revenue and Customs.
Ryan Lowe’s association with Bury goes back many years. He served us brilliantly as player, player-coach and manager. Nicky Adams had four spells with us, and joined Ryan at Wigan after calling time on his long playing career.
