    In Opposition – Nelson

The origins of Nelson FC can be traced to a group of townspeople who in 1881, on witnessing a local football match between Burnley and Blackburn, were inspired to form their own team.

As a club, Nelson have a rich vain of history, in the mid 1920s they beat both Manchester United & Real Madrid away from home in the same season.

In 1982, they became founders members of the North West Counties League and have been members ever since, apart from a four year hiatus from 1988-1992, as there ground didn’t meet league standards.

The club’s most memorable season in recent years would be the 2013/24 season, when manager Mark Fell brought long awaited success back to the town, a first league title in 62 years. His side scored a remarkable 157 goals in 45 games and won the NWCFL Division One by 5 clear points.
