Despite the late fightback from the hosts Bury first half dominance saw them run out 4-2 winners. First team analyst Chris Watt gave his reaction to the game when speaking to the club.
Chris Watt: “I thought the first half was some of the better stuff we played in a few weeks to be fair in terms of creating chances, going forward and being solid defensively but in the second half we seemed to drop off a little bit we started to lose our shape and not really dealing with long balls in behind us and then you invite pressure onto yourself and there was some last inch clearances and it just kept coming back but its been the story of the last couple weeks really other than Longbridge we haven’t really put a full performance together so there’s stuff to work on like always.”
Chris than spoke about the reason behind the 5 changes to todays starting 11 saying “ Just freshening it up really as last Saturday was a really tough game for the lads in terms of dealing with the style of play Lower Breck impose and I thought today we could try and get it down a bit and the pitch was a lot better so we tried to get some lads in who have missed the last couple of weeks who are ready to come on and do a job and I think that showed in the first half. We made a few changes with Brian [Ly] coming back in and Pat [Jarrett] starting and it worked well and maybe that didn’t help us as much in the second half because maybe fitness came into that because some of the lads haven’t had a lot of minutes recently, so they found it tough the same way the whole team did in the second half.
Chris than gave us his thoughts on Patrick Jarrett performance in the side, he said “Yeah, you saw it in the way he came on last weekend against Lower Breck he was starting to find his feet because you know he’s not that long off of a long term injury and sometimes when you bring lads in you have to give them time not just to bed into the squad and get to know everybody else but to give them time to get their bodies where it needs to be and that’s not just physical but mentally as well you know because sometimes you can compensate for long-term injuries and it plays on your mind and things like that and I’m not saying that’s the case with Pat but sometimes it can be and you have to be kind of patient at times and let them get to where they need to be and slowly introduce them and he made his first start for us today and I thought he did really well.”
Chris than spoke on Summer arrival Lewis Alessandra decision to retire after today’s game.
Chris Watt: “What a career, it’s really sad to see him go obviously it’s his decision that he’s made and clearly he feels that’s what is best for him we’d have loved for him to stay but he needs to do what’s right and he feels like now is the time to wrap a really long career in the game and he’s done really well for us and he’s been the perfect pro and we wish him all the best.”
To finish the interview Chris than looked forward to the midweek game against Litherland REMYCA saying “We can’t focus too much on other results we’re looking ahead to this month and we know we need to be better and December going to be a really big month for us as we’ve got a lot of home games so we need to make sure the points are on the board for those and Remy are a really tough place to go and a hard team to play against with tough conditions but we’ll make it right and train and work on the things we need to work on to try and prepare as much as possible for Wednesday and hopefully get the three points.”
