Pre-Season: 1874 Northwich (H), Tuesday 11th July, 7:45pm KO

After a busy weekend with friendlies against Bradford City & Preston North End, we’ll do it all again tomorrow evening as we welcome 1874 Northwich to Gigg Lane.
  It was the first time we’ve seen Men’s football at Gigg Lane in over four years on Saturday, as Mark Hughes’ Bradford City won by six goals to nil, but the result wasn’t the important part it was that football was back!
    Sunday saw us welcome back a Bury legend Ryan Lowe, as he brought a youthful Preston side to face Andy Welsh’s side. There was more in the way of goal opportunities for our forward line, but North End went away with a 2-0 victory. You can catch highlights of this game below:

  In Opposition – 1874 Northwich
It’s a historic week for our visitors. 1874 Northwich played their first fixture 10 years ago this week, they faced local side Lostock Gralam, a game they won 3-1.
  The fan-owned club play their football in Northern Premier League West Division, where they have played for the last two seasons after promotion from the North West Counties League during the COVID pandemic.
  The management duo of Paul Bowyer & Wayne Goodison had a mid-table finish last term, but will be looking to improve on that for the 2023/24 season.

  Parking: The car park at Gigg Lane are available for players and officials ONLY, with spaces also made available for blue badge holders. Car park operatives are under strict instructions to apply this policy, if your car is not on the list, you won’t be let on the car park. Contact secretary@buryfc.co.uk for further details.
  There is on-street parking in the residential areas surrounding Gigg Lane, with supporters reminded to be respectful and considerate of the local residents at all times, as well as being mindful of and adhering to the parking permit measures in place in close proximity to the ground.
  Stadium Entry: Gates will open at 6.45pm. All spectators will be housed in the South Stand for this fixture.
  Our matchday volunteers will be on hand, both outside the turnstiles and inside the ground, to guide supporters to where they need to be. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask those who are there to help the day.
  Food / Drink: Kiosks are accessible for supporters under the stands following the gates opening at 6:45pm. A selection of hot and cold snacks will be available. Alcohol will be sold, and can be consumed anywhere in the stand. Please respect the advice from stewards on managing this process on the day.
  Matchday Programme:
The team who compile the award-winning programmes have been at it again with a fresh look for 2023-24. The new look ‘The Shakers‘ programme.
  Our second pre-season edition will cover the remaining pre-season games at Gigg Lane and features ‘AFC’s Final Four’ documenting the match reports from the final four games of the 2022/23 season for Bury AFC.
  Make sure you don’t miss out on this edition, and grab a copy for just £3 from the sellers in and around the ground ahead of the game.
  Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the tannoy and on the scoreboard.
  Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work is going into turning the ground around between games this weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
  With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.
  #NonLeagueDogs: For now, dogs are NOT permitted in the ground.

MATCH REPORT: BURY FC 0 BRADFORD CITY 6

Returning to their home ground of Gigg Lane after a four-year hiatus, Bury FC faced a tough test against Mark Hughes' Bantams. The match kicked off the 2023/24 pre-season campaign but ended in a difficult 6-0 defeat for the hosts.
From the start, Bury faced an uphill battle. Emmanuel Osadebe's incisive run and assist to Alex Pattison for the first goal just seven minutes into the game set the tone for the encounter. Bury's defensive solidity was further tested when Andy Cook, last season's top scorer, doubled the visitors' lead five minutes later.
Despite an early onslaught, the Shakers showed resilience. A disallowed goal for Tyler Smith due to a foul brought a brief respite for the hosts, only for City to find the net twice more before half time, with goals from Osadebe and Luke Ridehalgh.
Bury displayed flashes of attacking threat with a promising move that resulted in the ball being in the back of the net, but their joy was short-lived as the offside flag was raised against Benito Lowe, denying what would have been a moral-boosting goal.

After the break, Hughes' side continued their offensive as Bury faced a refreshed City XI. The Shakers' defense was breached again by Matt Derbyshire, bringing the scoreline to 5-0. Despite this, Bury didn't relent. They nearly rewarded their home fans with a goal, only to be denied by a smart save from City's Heath Richardson.
The final nail came in the form of Jamie Walker's goal, rounding off a tough day for the hosts. Although the result was far from ideal, Bury FC took away valuable lessons from this match and the return to Gigg Lane marked a significant milestone in the club's history, offering a stepping stone towards regrouping and focusing on the rest of the pre-season campaign.

MATCH REPORT: BURY FC 0 PRESTON N.E. 3

Bury FC fell to a spirited Preston North End XI side, with the visitors securing a 3-0 win at Gigg Lane courtesy of goals from Kian Taylor, Lewis Leigh, and Kitt Nelson.
The visiting team demonstrated their individual prowess early on, as Taylor broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, weaving his way through the Bury defence before slotting home. Skipper Leigh echoed this sentiment as he added to the tally early in the second half.
Nelson concluded the Preston onslaught in the 72nd minute, signifying a solid performance by the young Preston outfit.
Despite the result, the atmosphere at Gigg Lane was buoyant, as the hosts marked their weekend with festivities to commemorate their return to their home ground after a four-year absence.
Facing a Preston team filled with upcoming professionals and scholars, directed by ex-Bury player and manager Ryan Lowe, the Shakers demonstrated promising moments. Mikey O’Neill kicked off proceedings in the 15th minute with an ambitious effort from the edge of the box that soared over the bar.
Bury FC's Jacob Slater produced a crucial intervention a few minutes later, denying Tom Kilifin’s cross from reaching Andy Briggs, who otherwise would have had a clear chance on goal.
The Shakers came close again at the 20-minute mark, when Sam Unwin's powerful strike skimmed off the crossbar into the spectators behind the goal.

Preston managed to seize the advantage, as Taylor danced through the Bury backline, firing the visitors into the lead.
Bury FC’s James Pradic made two noteworthy saves in quick succession towards the end of the first half, denying both Jack Tinning’s free-kick and a quick shot from Briggs.
Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile, a key player in the early exchanges of the second half, set up Kitt Nelson whose shot missed the target, before his own effort was saved.
The visitors added a second goal as Leigh navigated his way through Bury's defensive line and clinically finished in the 54th minute.
Nelson added a third for the visitors in the 72nd minute, capitalizing on Kaedyn Kamara's excellent work on the left flank, spinning and slotting past the Bury keeper.
Kamara's attempt at a spectacular long-range goal was thwarted by Jack Atkinson's diving save to his left.
Late in the game, Connor Comber tested Pradic as the rain began to pour at Gigg Lane, but the Preston shot-stopper ensured his side maintained a clean sheet.

Football Board Chairman, Marcel De Matas said: “Both Macc and Bury have been through similar experiences, and have risen from the ashes to create vibrant, growing clubs.

Rita individually hand paints every hat and makes them whilst her son Tom is having respite care.

The venture helps Rita financially and mentally, giving her a break to tap into her creative side.

Inspired by a passion for the Manchester Indie scene the hats are a nod to the Stone Roses.

We have commissioned a limited amount of these hats and they will be on sale tomorrow, £15 from the merchandise stand.

How You Can Help Us This Weekend

Bury Football Club is run by volunteers and owned by its supporters. Even if you aren’t one of the many volunteers who are assisting with our matchday operations this weekend, you can play a part in its success.
  Here are just a few things that you can do which make more of a difference than you might realise.
  1. Don’t turn up if you don’t have a ticket. Both games are ticket only. Bradford is already sold out. Nobody will be admitted without a ticket and we are under some extremely strict rules to enforce this for these fixtures.
  2. Park considerately. The car park in front of the stadium is not available this weekend for supporter use, other than for people with blue disability badges. Volunteers will be helping manage the car park. Off street parking is available but be mindful or the streets closest to Gigg Lane which have parking restrictions on a matchday, and be considerate to residents when you park in residential areas.
  3. Go to the right turnstile. Home supporters will be in the South Stand and away supporters in the East Stand (as below). Please look out for signs and volunteers who are there to help to ensure you go to the right place and help anyone struggling.
 
  4. Have your ticket ready showing the QR code. You can present your QR code on your mobile phone or print it off at home, both will work as long as it is clear. You can only use it once on the day so if you share it with someone else who goes in first it won’t allow you in.
  5. Behave responsibly. Despite being a friendly, this is a high profile game with a significant security presence. Help us succeed by following the rules around alcohol consumption, be patient with volunteers and stewards and don’t engage in anti-social behaviour described below.
  6. Don’t litter. Every piece of litter needs to be cleaned up afterwards. If you leave litter behind that means extra work for a volunteer. Please use the bins provided or even better take your litter home with you so others don’t have to.
  7. Help if you can. You will see people staying behind after each game to work on the stadium. Join in if you can. Even five minutes spent cleaning the area around where you sit makes a difference.

  Spectator Management
Whilst these games are both friendlies, more stringent rules for spectator management will apply as our opponents are EFL teams.
  This means that alcohol cannot be served or consumed in view of the pitch and the police will be in attendance. We will have enhanced stewarding on the day which will hopefully support us in delivering a safe environment.
  We hope to be able to relax these requirements for the three remaining home friendlies against non-league opposition, and open up more of the ground for the start of the season proper. 
  However we need your support and co-operation to do this. We are required to demonstrate that we are able to safely and competently run matches out of Gigg Lane to open up more of the ground increase our capacity. Please help us achieve this over the next few weeks.
  Anti-Social Behaviour is A Criminal Offence
Supporters should be aware that anti-social behaviour affecting the game itself will be a criminal offence. This includes:
