Match Info: Whickham FC (A), Sat 11th Nov, 3pm KO – FA Vase

Following a bye through the earlier rounds due to progression last season we finally enter this seasons FA Vase at the Second Round Proper.

And what a way to enter with a 300 mile round trip up North to face Whickham FC.

  Our Northern League based opponents currently sit 15th in their table after winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 5 of their opening fixtures.

Dave McNabb, who is no stranger to FA Vase success after winning it at Wembley with Warrington Rylands back in 2021, won’t be taking the trip lightly as he knows how tough these trips to the North East can be.

In his post match interview following this weekends fantastic win on the road at Kendal, Dave said the following about the upcoming tie.

  Speaking of the weekends match against Kendal, an Andy Scarisbrick brace and yet another Harry Wright clean sheet, sealed the win as we controlled the game for the majority of the ninety as we start to look like a real force to be reckoned with.

Kendal heaped praise on our fans and club for our excellent behaviour in what turned out to be a great day all round.

  In Opposition – Whickham FC
Whickham Football Club is a proud member of the Ebac Northern League, a status they have held since 1944.

The club achieved promotion to Division One for the first time in 2018. Their highest football league finish was 7th following a successful 2021/2022 season.

The team sports the famous black and white stripes and shares the First Mortgage Glebe ground with their good neighbors, Whickham Cricket Club.

Their club’s greatest achievement to date is lifting the FA Vase in 1981.

Alcohol will be served in the bar and can be taken pitchside in plastic cups.

Non league dogs, flags and drums are all welcome.

Independent Football Regulator Confirmed In King's Speech

The King's Speech this morning confirmed that the legislation necessary to implement an Independent Regulator to govern English football will be brought forward 'to safeguard the future of football clubs for the benefit of communities and fans.' It only covers clubs down as far as the National League so wouldn't cover Bury when implemented but our fans have had a big say in it's creation. The Regulator will operate a licensing system, where all clubs in the top five tiers of the men’s English football pyramid will need a licence to operate as professional football clubs. It will have powers to monitor and enforce compliance with requirements in financial regulation; corporate governance; club ownership (Owners’ and Directors’ tests); fan engagement and club heritage protection; and approved competitions. It’s narrow focus will be protecting the long-term sustainability of clubs for the benefit of their fans and communities and helping to prevent the collapse of clubs like Bury and Macclesfield Town. Bury supporters contributed to the Fan-Led Review directly and through organisations such as the Football Supporters' Association and Fair Game, providing insight into what went wrong before and what needs to happen in future. Whilst we await the details on exactly how this will be implemented we are extremely supportive of this piece of legislation and it's aims. We can't undo the past, but we can help make the future more positive for other clubs and, ultimately, for ourselves as we work our way back up the football pyramid.

The Football Supporters' Society of Bury Update

The board met for the first time at the end of October, and we have summarized the main decisions below.

The board appointed Rod Peters and Phil Young as Secretary and Chair of the Society, respectively. There were no other nominations for these positions.

The board appointed Jon Newby to the board of Bury Football Club (2019) Ltd which trades as Bury Football Club. Dave Triggs and Phil Young stepped down.

The board appointed John Woodhead, Ian Pearson, Marcel de Matas and Darren Bernstein to the board of The Bury Football Club Company Ltd, which owns the Gigg Lane stadium. They will represent the Society’s interests on that board. John Woodhead will chair this board. Mike Goodier has stepped down. Bury FC Benefactors Ltd have appointed Matt Barker, Ian Harrop and David Manchester as their board representatives.

The board agreed to the creation of three committees:
A Finance and Audit Committee, responsible for providing an additional layer of oversight over the club and societies financial decisions and functions. A Heritage Committee, responsible for initiatives which recognise, promote and preserve the history of the football club. A Diversity and Inclusion Committee, to recognise that this plays a vital role in a growing, community club and more can and should be done. The board acknowledged the lack of diversity across its own membership. Terms of Reference for each committee will be drafted ahead of open invitations to join the committees being issued. The board will appoint a Secretary and Chair for each committee.

It was agreed that a new legal agreement would be put in place which would result in the football club assuming responsibility for meeting all of the future operating costs of the stadium and take all future stadium revenue. The intent is to simplify the current arrangement, reduce costs, and will satisfy the requirements of funders such as Bury Council and The Football Foundation who wish to see long term security for the club at Gigg Lane before they invest in it, along with detailed operating and development plans. It should also allay any concerns from supporters about our commitment to the Gigg Lane stadium and its future financial viability.

The specific details of this agreement are now under discussion.

We will start work on a slight reworking of our budgets as we anticipate employing people through Bury Football Club (2019) Ltd to deliver services in the stadium and complete the operating and development plans. Most of these are not unexpected costs, they are just being re-allocated to a different company.

A new financial reporting tool is under review to assist with consolidated reporting for members. We are profitable and we are reviewing how we move money between different organisations, some of which operate under different tax rules which has prevented us with problems.

Overall, we are ahead of expectations in terms of profitability, but it should be remembered that our cash position has been boosted by season ticket sales which will be spent throughout the season. We are generating more revenue, primarily from greater ticket sales, but as we are starting to understand more about the stadium there are also additional costs to bear. Some of these are exceptional costs, some ongoing, and we will share these with members as soon as possible.

We are now required to have The Bury Football Club Company Ltd financially audited, as it is a subsidiary under the Community Benefit Society Act 2014, and have changed the accounting reference date to allow us time for this to take place.

We are now working on the launch of a new membership system and will make further announcements on this in due course. The price will remain as £5pm or £60 per annum.

Match Info: Kendal Town (A), Sat 4th Nov, 3pm KO

Dave McNabb and his team will look to make it four wins on the bounce this weekend as we travel North into Cumbria to take on Kendal Town in a top-of-the-table clash.

This will be our second meeting with The Mintcakes this season and The Shakers will be looking to avenge a 3-2 loss in the reverse fixture back in August, a game in which Andy Briggs bagged a brace.

Briggs was back among the goals last weekend as were Connor Comber and Anton Smith as we put a good West Didsbury & Chorlton side to the sword in a match fraught with action including sin bins, red cards and penalties (both saved and scored)

      Following this week’s announcement of the points deduction, as well as the opening game of the season against Glossop is to be voided and replayed, it is now more important that ever that you get behind YOUR club. Be the twelfth man and roar your Shakers on.

  In Opposition – Kendal Town
The present Club was originally formed as Netherfield AFC in 1919 when employees at K Shoes Netherfield factory were encouraged to form a football team. They were provided with land near the factory at Parkside and began to compete in local leagues. In 1925 the team achieved its first notable success winning the Westmorland County Cup.

The club then played in the local leagues like the North Lancashire and West Lancashire league before the outbreak of the Second World War.

In 1945 the club joined the semi-professional ranks becoming a member of the Lancashire Combination League. Two Championship Titles came their way in 1949 and 1965.

FA Cup success was quickly becoming a tradition having five appearances in eight years in the 1st Round of the FA Cup with the club’s best run in 1963/64 reaching the 2nd Round against Football League side Chesterfield.

In 1968 the club accepted the challenge of becoming a founder member of the Northern Premier League. However, the 1970s were not kind to Netherfield as they languished around the bottom of the Northern Premier League for most of the decade.

The Club moved in the North West Counties Division One for four seasons before returning to the Northern Premier League in 1987 for the next 10 years the club’s highest position was fifth in the 1993/94 season.

The club changed its name to Netherfield Kendal in 1998 and changed its name to Kendal Town in 2000.

In the 2004/05 season, the club lost in the NPL Division One play-off final against AFC Telford.

The season after was one of the most successful in the club’s history beating Gresley Rovers in the playoff final and the first ever promotion in the club’s history to the NPL Premier.

The club’s best two seasons in the NPL Premier where they secured two playoff places losing both semi-finals each time.

In the 2012/13 season the club where relegated back to the NPL Division 1. For the next 10 seasons, the club’s average position was 16th. In that time the club could only manage its highest position of 10th in the 2013/14 season.

The 2021/22 season was one of the worst in the club’s history. The club finished on 12 points and finished 19th and were relegated to the North West Counties Premier.

2022-23 saw the club return to the North West Counties league for the first time in over 30 years, the season was a season for the club to Stabilize finishing 12th, the highlight was taking over 100 fans to the Isle of Man and also reaching the Macron Cup semi-final.

Kendal Town processed ticket sales online and these are now all SOLD-OUT. If you do not have a ticket, it is strongly recommended that you do not travel to the game.

We were unable to manage the process of distribution of these tickets to season ticket holders / members as we normally do as our hosts managed the ticketing process. We endeavour to manage this process wherever possible, but were unable to do so on this occassion.

Parking: Kendal Town’s car park will be by reservation only. Kendal have 4 disabled spots that can be booked by contacting ktfcchairman@outlook.com.

**Alternative Car Parking**

Netherfield Cricket Club: £5 per spot and cash only. This facility has limited availability, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Travelodge at the end of Parkside Road is open to the public and costs around £5. Other public parking can be found in the town centre.

When parking locally to the ground, supporters attending the game are requested to be mindful of local residents. Please leave space for residents to access properties at all times.

Ground Facilities: There will be a food truck in the club’s car park. People leaving the stadium to access food will be stamped by private security and allowed back in. They will also be serving basic food within the stadium from the hut at the bottom of the ground.

Alcohol and soft drinks will be available from the club house. A can bar will be open to the left of the pitch, along with a limited amount of drinks from the hut at the bottom of the ground. Fans can use both cash and card in all areas of the stadium.

Dog-friendly stadium. Common sense should be used at all times, as they will be exceptionally busy.
