Successive victories against Lower Breck at home and Barnoldswick Town and Stockport Town away have re-established our position as league leaders at the top of the table with 73 points from 34 games.
A key factor in this is the stunning form of striker DJ Pedro – 20 goals in 18 appearances since he joined us, initially on loan, from Buxton. DJ’s success reflects the performances of the whole squad.
Yes, we have had our moments – but the trajectory is clear. We’re more than aware that Ramsbottom are only one point behind us, followed closely by Lower Breck. And below them are no fewer than five other promotion hopefuls – including FC IoM.
That’s why every point is crucial, so all you Shakers’ fans…down to Gigg and support the lads with plenty of raucous noise. Up the Shakers!!!!
View the post match media from our weekend’s win at Stockport Town including interviews with Dave McNabb & Cam Fogerty below.
In Opposition – FC Isle of Man
The Ravens came into being only five years ago, with plans so impressive that they were accepted immediately into the NWCFL Division One South. Covid held them back for a year, but the league’s original decision was vindicated when they won promotion through the play-offs in their first season.
They made a good start this term. They defend robustly and – as we saw in September – are usually skilled in the art of game management. But their results have not been so good in recent weeks. They’ve won only two of their last six matches – a run which continued with a 1-1 home draw against Irlam on Saturday.

Lower Breck were beating everybody in sight, but we beat them in some style. The first half was probably our best 45 minutes of the season so far. Yes, we gave them a window of opportunity by sitting back at 3-1. But we made it, and overall were the better team by some distance.
The last six weeks have been tough for our players and coaches as a result of illness and injuries in the squad and new signings and departures. We had one really bad day in South Manchester, but overall we’ve proved ourselves more than worthy title contenders.
We go to the Stockport Sports Village looking for a double – we beat them 2-1 at home in September – and with the memory of our performance last weekend still fresh in our minds. So, Shakers fans, hit the road. Be there! Be part of it! Be noisy! Up the Shakers!!!
In Opposition – Stockport Town
Town’s first season in the NWCFL Premier Division follows their promotion as Division One South runners-up. They’re doing well, sitting in 9th position and with a last six record of three wins, one draw and two defeats.
In contrast to Shakers, they go into this game after a home defeat. On Monday evening, two second-half goals gave sixth-placed Irlam victory after Town had taken the lead in the 19th minute.
This was disappointing for the club after their 2-1 win at South Liverpool last weekend, so they’ll very much want to bounce back.
