  4. We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Bailey Sloane ahead of the busy Christmas period. He came through youth football with the Shakers before moving on to AFC Fylde, when the club was expelled from the EFL in 2019. Early spells with clubs such as Bury AFC, Chester and Avro helped him adapt to the physical and tactical demands of the adult game. In 2021, Bailey earned a move to Accrington Stanley, marking an important step into the EFL environment. Although he did not make a league appearance for the club, loan spells with teams including AFC Telford United and Radcliffe provided valuable match experience and continued development. Following his release from Accrington, he joined Farsley Celtic in 2024, where he enjoyed his most regular run of first-team football to date in the National League North. Playing mainly at left-back, he made a strong impression with his physical presence, versatility and defensive reliability. In early 2025, he moved to Marine AFC, continuing to gain senior experience before leaving the club later in the year for personal reasons. Interim manager, Tim Lees, said: “Bailey is an excellent player who can play left back or left-sided centre back. Aggressive, defensively very good 1v1 and extremely comfortable on the ball. He brings experience playing much higher and will fit perfectly with how we want to play.” Sloane becomes the first player to feature for the club pre-2019, for Bury AFC and Bury FC since our return to Gigg Lane in 2023. He will be available for selection for our Boxing Day clash against Clitheroe at Gigg Lane. Boxing Day Tickets View the full article
  5. Christmas Giving Week at Bury FC saw the club give back to the local community through a series of festive visits and activities. Throughout the week, the club came together to spread Christmas cheer, support local groups, and strengthen our community connections. The week began on Monday with players and Peeler delivering Christmas gifts to Bury Ballers, bringing smiles to young participants while engaging with the next generation of footballers in a fun and festive setting. On Tuesday, the celebrations continued with a visit to partnership club Unsworth Juniors FC. Players and Peeler handed out matchday tickets and spent time with grassroots players, reinforcing the importance of supporting local football and inspiring young people within the game. Wednesday saw a special Sporting Memories session, where former Bury FC players Jason Jarrett and Wayne Entwistle joined participants for an afternoon of storytelling, questions and shared football memories. The session provided a meaningful opportunity to reconnect through the power of sport and shared experiences. The focus turned to spreading Christmas joy and companionship on Thursday, as the team visited Bankfield Residential Care Home. Players spent time chatting with residents and staff, helping to bring warmth and festive spirit to all involved. Christmas Giving Week concluded on Friday with a visit to Fairfield Hospital, where players handed out presents and spent time with patients and hardworking healthcare staff, offering moments of joy and appreciation during the festive season. Christmas Giving Week highlighted our ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, demonstrating that the club’s impact extends far beyond the pitch. 7. Boxing Day football returns to Gigg Lane as we welcome Clitheroe in what promises to be a competitive festive encounter. With a big holiday crowd expected and momentum at stake as the season enters a crucial phase, the Shakers will be looking to make home advantage count against a first-time Lancashire opponent. After the excitement of Christmas, attention turns back to the pitch, where three points on Boxing Day could set the tone for the remainder of the campaign. Last time out, we made it two wins from two under Tim Lees with a deserved 1–0 victory away at Newcastle Town. Rustam Stepans’ first-half penalty proved decisive. Despite the narrow scoreline, Bury dominated throughout, creating a host of chances and rarely being troubled at the other end, with a composed defensive display, including an impressive debut from Luke Tabone, ensuring all three points were safely secured. In Opposition – Clitheroe Clitheroe are in their 22nd straight season at Step 4 in the Northern Premier League West. Founded in 1877, the club’s long history eventually settled at Shawbridge in the 1920s, with notable success in the Lancashire Combination and later national recognition through FA Vase runs, including a Wembley final in the 1990s. Sean McConville’s impact has renewed optimism that the Blues can push forward as they enter their second century at Shawbridge. 14. Bury FC are pleased to confirm the arrival of defender Luke Tabone, who has joined the Club on a 28-day loan from Southport. The commanding centre-back adds further depth and experience to the Shakers’ defence. Standing at 6ft 4in, Tabone brings a strong physical presence, aerial ability and leadership qualities at the heart of the backline. The 27-year-old boasts valuable experience at both club and international levels. He has represented the Maltese National Team, first receiving a call-up in March 2023 for UEFA European Championship qualifiers against North Macedonia and Italy, and making the matchday squad against North Macedonia. Tabone went on to make his senior international debut in June 2024, coming on as a second-half substitute against Greece. Tabone began his football journey in the youth ranks of Nadur Youngsters on the island of Gozo in Malta, before spending time in the academy system at Burnley. He later returned to Nadur Youngsters in 2018, where he made his senior debut and continued his development. In 2023, he moved to Haverfordwest County, playing his part in a historic campaign for the Welsh side. That season saw the club achieve their highest-ever points tally in a 12-team Cymru Premier, as well as secure qualification for the UEFA Conference League. Luke joined Southport in June 2025, following his spell with Haverfordwest County, and has gone on to make eight appearances for the Sandgrounders. He now links up with the Shakers on a short-term basis and will be looking to make an immediate impact during his time at Gigg Lane. Everyone at the Club would like to welcome Luke to Bury FC and wish him the best during his loan spell. View the full article
  15. Our trip to Newcastle Town begins the busy Christmas period of four games in 14 days. Tim Lees will lead the team to Stoke on Trent this weekend, as it was confirmed this week, he will lead the Shakers for the rest of the season. The Shakers picked up a 2-1 victory last time out against Mossley, taking an early lead before being pegged back in an end-to-end first half. Chances came at both ends, with Shakers repeatedly going close. Persistence paid off late on as Gavin Massey’s close-range header sealed all three points. Newcastle Town are without a win in five games, and come into this one off the back of a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Bootle. In Opposition – Newcastle Town Newcastle Town have played consistently at this level since the 2010/11 season, after their league title win in the North West Counties League and reached the playoff semi-finals in their debut season.
