Match Info: Harrogate Town (H), Sat 17th Oct, 12:30pm KO
It’s back to Emirates FA Cup action this weekend as The Shakers welcome Harrogate Town in the Fourth Qualifying Round. Our journey so far has seen us best Wythenshawe and Workington, before edging past Bromsgrove Sporting, all at home. Our opponents are high fliers two steps above in the National League, beating Woking in their last outing to move to second. This fixture marks the sides first competitive meeting, with the fixture being broadcast on the BBC. In Opposition – Harrogate Town Despite waiting until 1919 for their first competitive fixture, Harrogate Town were formed in 1914 by a group of locals as ‘Harrogate Hotspur’. In the 1920-21 season, the side entertained high profile friendlies during the holiday period, including visiting Anfield to play Liverpool, and facing Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United in front of 15,000 fans. The club reached the football league for the first time in 2020 when they beat Notts County 3-1 at Wembley in the Play-off final, where they stayed for six years until relegation in the 2025/26 season. Harrogate Town reached the FA Cup Third Round last year where they made the short trip to visit local rivals Leeds United, narrowly losing 1-0. Matchday Guide: Harrogate Town
With our Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Harrogate Town fast approaching, we want to make supporters aware of several important matchday arrangements ahead of Saturday’s fixture at Gigg Lane. The Shakers welcome National League opposition to the Salford Van Hire Stadium on Saturday 17th October, with a place in the First Round Proper at stake. With a bumper crowd expected and several changes to our usual matchday operations, we strongly encourage all supporters to familiarise themselves with the information below and arrive early. Matchday Timings Saturday’s fixture will kick off at the earlier time of 12:30pm, following the game’s selection for live coverage on BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer. Our matchday opening times have been adjusted accordingly: 10am: Hospitality areas & Starkies open 11am: Turnstiles open 12pm: Alcohol sales at kiosks close 12:30pm: Kick-off We anticipate a busy build-up to the fixture and encourage supporters to allow additional time for their journey and entry into the stadium. Supporters are also encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance via Fanbase to help make entry as smooth as possible and allow us to plan and cater accordingly. South Stand Arrangements Due to the requirements of the BBC’s television broadcast, a temporary television scaffold has been installed within the South Stand. This means that several areas of the stand will be unavailable for Saturday’s fixture. The following blocks and rows will be closed: Blocks E and F: Fully closed Block D: Rows L onwards closed Block G: Rows E onwards closed Block H: Rows L onwards closed The Wheelchair Enclosure will remain unaffected and will operate as normal. We appreciate these arrangements will affect supporters who would usually watch the game from these areas and thank everyone for their understanding. With reduced seating availability in the South Stand, we particularly encourage supporters to arrive early. Unreserved Seating As is customary for cup fixtures at Gigg Lane, unreserved seating will be in operation for Saturday’s game. Supporters will be able to choose their seats within the areas available to them on a first-come, first-served basis. With a large attendance anticipated and the reduced capacity in the South Stand, we strongly recommend entering the stadium as early as possible to secure your preferred seating. Please note, Block E & F in the main stand is strictly reserved for media, hospitality guests, directors and guests only. Without the correct pass or wristband, you will not be allowed to sit in this area. Admissions & Segregation Full segregation will be in place for Saturday’s fixture. We have the necessary provisions in place to open all areas of the stadium, subject to ticket sales and demand and a final decision will be made on Thursday evening. We are keen to ensure that our resources are used responsibly and that the club avoids unnecessary costs associated with opening stands where demand does not justify it. We therefore strongly encourage supporters to purchase their tickets in advance to help us plan accordingly and ensure the best possible matchday experience for everyone. We ask all supporters to follow the relevant signage and directions from stewards when entering and moving around the ground. Fans will be subject to security searches on entry to the stadium as part of our matchday safety procedures. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Alcohol Regulations There will be important changes to our usual alcohol arrangements for this fixture. Due to Harrogate Town’s participation at Step 1 of the National League System, the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985 applies. This means alcohol cannot be consumed within sight of the pitch at any time, including in the stands and seating areas. Alcohol will remain available in designated kiosks and hospitality areas where consumption is permitted, but supporters will not be allowed to take alcoholic drinks into the stands or to their seats. Alcohol sales at stadium kiosks will close at 12pm. After this time, kiosks will remain open for food and non-alcoholic refreshments, including tea, coffee and soft drinks. Please note, no alcohol is permitted to be sold in the Thatchers van in the South Stand for this fixture, but it will be open throughout for soft drinks and snacks. We ask all supporters to respect these regulations and follow the instructions of our stewards and staff, to avoid ejection from the stadium. Starkies Bar Starkies bar will be open from 10am. Due to logistics and restricted movement between stands, particularly as the South Stand is already sold out, Starkies will only be open for fans in the Main Stand. Entry will be subject to capacity, so arrive early to avoid disappointment. Matchday Fanzone A matchday fanzone will be in operation in the stadium car park ahead of Saturday’s fixture, providing supporters with an opportunity to enjoy the build-up to this huge FA Cup occasion. We encourage supporters to arrive early, soak up the pre-match atmosphere and make the most of the occasion before heading into the stadium. Local singer, Kieran Arnold will be performing in the Memorial Garden, Peeler the Mascot will be in attendance for pictures with fans and the club shop will be open for merchandise. Additionally, refreshments will be available in the car park with Art of Coffee selling a range of hot and cold drinks and cakes and new vendor ‘Portia’s Pantry’ selling breakfast baps and pastries. Parking & Travel Parking will be limited for this fixture and as always is allocated on a first come, first served basis. We have been informed that the majority of roadworks in the close proximity of Gigg Lane will be completed by Friday. However, we still suggest allowing additional time as the area around the stadium will be busy. Please be mindful of residents when parking and do not block driveways or park on double yellow lines. Parking enforcement officers will be patrolling the area, and vehicles parked illegally may be subject to a penalty charge notice. Arrive Early and Plan Ahead With the earlier kick-off, expected attendance and changes to our usual stadium arrangements, we anticipate a particularly busy matchday at Gigg Lane. Supporters are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, purchase tickets before arriving and allow plenty of time to enter the stadium. Our staff and volunteers will be working hard throughout the morning to ensure everyone can enjoy the occasion safely and comfortably. We thank supporters for their patience and cooperation and look forward to welcoming everyone to Gigg Lane. View the full article

Alfreton Town 2-3 Bury: Match Report
DJ Pedro was once again the hero coming off the bench to score a brilliant lobbed goal in the 88th minute away at Alfreton Town, the hard fought 3-2 win the perfect antidote to Bury’s recent away day troubles. After the tough loss away to Stockton Town Bury made three changes to the team. DJ Pedro had a welcome return to the bench after six weeks out injured. Looking to make amends from midweek the Shakers came out of the blocks quickly. A James Neild cross was glanced wide by Owen Robinson in an early chance. It was Rustam Stepans who gave the visitors the lead. Taking a free kick from a tight angle near the corner flag. His ball into the box stayed low, eluded the defence and landed into the far corner of the goal. Bury quickly doubled their lead. From a counterattack a Tom Carr shot was deflected out for a corner. From the resulting set piece Louis Isherwood was hauled down at far post and the referee pointed to the spot. Owen Robinson who had announced a new contract extension pre match celebrated the event by scoring the penalty. Bury looked in control during the first half Stepans, Robinson and Neild in particular looked sharp on the Bury right wing. When the home side did create a chance, Kasper Williams flicking a header goalwards, Mitch Allen was on hand to produce a super save. The Shakers wouldn’t get into the halftime break with a clean sheet however. A simple ball over the top to Alfreton centre forward Siya Ligendza allowed him to finish well grabbing a goal back for the hosts. It seemed to shake Bury’s confidence and after the break they looked nervous and off the pace. They struggled to keep possession and every long ball forward by Alfreton threatened an equaliser. The visitors did have chances, a Robinson shot was deflected wide and Stepans arriving at the last second to meet a Kai Evans cross put his diving effort onto the post. Those missed chances came back to haunt them. A minute after seeing their chance hit the post Bury were brought back to 2-2. Ligendza pulled the ball from the byline Daniel Odunaiya who slammed in the equaliser. Pegged back and undoubtedly on the ropes the last minutes of the match passed slowly. It seemed Anthony Johnson’s 800th match in management would at best end in an uneasy draw. Cometh the hour, cometh the man DJ Pedro on as a substitute was allowed the time and space to loft a ball over the head of Reds keeper Alfie Roberts with a volley and into the goal for the Bury winner. Pedro ran the full length of the pitch through teammates’ and coaches’ celebrations into the arms of the delirious Shakers away support. View lineups and more in our match centre. Emirates FA Cup Tie Against Harrogate Town Selected for BBC Coverage
We can confirm that our Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Harrogate Town on Saturday 17th October 2026 has been selected for television coverage on BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer. As a result of the fixture being selected for broadcast, kick-off at Gigg Lane will now take place at 12:30pm. The occasion promises to be another memorable FA Cup day at Salford Van Hire Stadium, with the Shakers looking to book their place in the First Round Proper. Supporters attending the game should, however, be aware of a number of important changes to our usual matchday arrangements as a result of the BBC television broadcast and the regulations which apply to this fixture. Matchday Timings With the earlier kick-off time, our matchday opening times will also change. Hospitality areas will open from 10am, with turnstiles opening at 11am ahead of the 12:30pm kick-off. We strongly encourage all supporters to arrive at Gigg Lane in good time. The earlier kick-off, combined with the anticipated attendance and changes to areas of the stadium, may result in a busier than usual build-up to the game. Supporters are encouraged to book in advance on Fanbase to make entry to the ground as smooth as possible. Remember, there are no hidden fees with Fanbase! South Stand Changes The South Stand will be significantly affected by the requirements of the BBC’s broadcast operation, with a television scaffold being installed within the stand to accommodate the coverage of the fixture. As a result, Blocks E and F will be fully closed for this game. There will also be partial closures in the surrounding blocks due to restricted views created by the television scaffold: Block D: Rows L onwards closed Block G: Rows E onwards closed Block H: Rows L onwards closed The Wheelchair Enclosure will remain unaffected by the broadcast arrangements and will operate as normal. We appreciate that these changes will affect supporters who would usually watch the game from these areas and thank fans for their patience and understanding as we accommodate the requirements of the live television coverage. Alcohol Regulations Supporters should also be aware of a change to the usual arrangements regarding the consumption of alcohol inside Gigg Lane. Due to Harrogate Town’s participation at Step 1 of the National League System, Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985 regulations apply to this fixture, meaning that alcohol cannot be consumed within sight of the pitch, including in the stands. Alcohol will still be available from designated kiosks and hospitality areas that are not in pitch view, but supporters purchasing alcoholic drinks will be required to consume them in the permitted areas and will not be able to take alcohol to their seats or into the stands. The kiosks will close for alcohol sales at 12pm. Kiosks will remain open for food and non-alcoholic drinks only, including tea, coffee and soft drinks. Shakers Bar in the South Stand will be fully closed for this fixture. We expect to operate a can bar on the approach between the South Stand turnstiles. Further details will be confirmed ahead of the fixture. This differs from our usual matchday arrangements at Gigg Lane, and we ask supporters to cooperate with stewards and stadium staff throughout the afternoon. Segregation Full segregation is in place for the fixture, with Harrogate Town fans utilising the Cemetery End. Unreserved Seating Unreserved seating is in place for this fixture, as is the usual case for Cup matches at Gigg Lane. Getting into the ground early will help you secure your preferred seat. This will be even more important for this tie with the reduced capacity in the South Stand of 2,000. A Big FA Cup Day at Gigg Lane The Fourth Qualifying Round represents the final hurdle before the First Round Proper, and the visit of Harrogate Town provides the Shakers with another exciting FA Cup occasion at Gigg Lane. Selection for BBC coverage also provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase Bury FC, Gigg Lane and our supporters to a national audience, while giving those unable to attend the opportunity to follow the action via BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer. For those joining us at Gigg Lane, please make a note of the revised 12:30pm kick-off and altered stadium arrangements, and arrive early to help ensure a smooth entry into the ground. We appreciate that a change to the kick-off time can create challenges for supporters, particularly those who have already made travel arrangements or have other commitments around the original fixture time, and we thank everyone for their understanding. Your support can make a huge difference. The backing the players receive from the stands at Gigg Lane is incredibly important to them, and that is felt even more on the big occasions. With a place in the First Round Proper at stake, we hope as many Shakers as possible can join us, get behind the team and help create another special FA Cup atmosphere at Gigg Lane.
