CLUB STATEMENT: Cheadle Town (a)

We can confirm our final away game of the season against Cheadle Town will now be played at Broadhurst Park, home of FC United of Manchester.

The fixture will take place as planned on Saturday 12th April at 3pm.

Tickets will be sold by Cheadle Town for this fixture, and will be available to purchase from tomorrow morning (Wednesday) at 9am. Click here to purchase your tickets.

Reaction: Aiden Walker & Rustam Stepans Squires Gate (H)

Bury won 3-0 over relegation battlers Squires Gate as the Shakers reached centurion status in their title fight, Rustam Stepans and Aiden Walker both spoke to the club to give us their thoughts on the game.


Rustam Stepans: “Yeah, I think it was a comfortable game to be fair, I think we moved the ball really well. We worked in on Thursday for moving the play, getting out wide, if there’s nothing on, coming back and back out wide again. So, yeah, really happy with the performance.”


Aiden Walker added onto this by giving us his thoughts on the game he said “Yeah, no, it’s massive. I think that’s six clean sheets now on the balance, so it’s always good to keep solid. I don’t think we looked like conceding much today. You know, they had two big lads up top who, they held it up well to be fair, but I think we dealt with it, we didn’t really look for it and we were just more being good on the ball, moving the ball side to side while building play up from the back. I don’t think Mitch [Allen] had a say to me, did he? No, I don’t think he did, no.”


Rusty then spoke about whether he thought the game would play out exactly as it did “I think some of the lads were a bit nervous and obviously Squires gate, I know what they had to do. I think they came up with the game plan, but I don’t think it worked out for them. I think we were just superior towards them, you know, so yeah, it was good.”


They then spoke about the need to focus as they enter the last three games, they said “Yeah, no, that’s it. We know win three games, win the league. We’ve seen a lot of people be focused on games later on, but we know we’re capable of winning three games, win the league, so that’s it really.”


Rustam the ended the interview by giving a message to the fans he said, “No, just I know how happy yous are when I’m doing my little celebration or whatever. I know it’s a bit cringy, but yeah, no, thank you very much. Keep it going.”

Reaction: Dave McNabb Squires Gate (H)

Bury came out triumphant after a 3-0 victory over Squires Gate, Manager Dave McNabb gave us his thoughts on the game.


Dave McNabb: “Yeah, I think so. I thought we kept the ball really well, looked a little bit more like us today in terms of some of the patterns of play and a little bit better in possession. A bit disappointing we maybe didn’t take one or two of the chances, particularly first half, but second half I thought we just turned the screw a little bit more and we just kept them penned in. It was, like you said, a really professional performance, quite comfortable. Could have been a little bit more, but we’ll take the 3-0 and we’ll move on for next week.”


Dave then spoke about how important it is to keep the defence tight knit in this part of the season, he said “t’s been massive. I think obviously if you look back through the season, the issue or some of the challenges we’ve had have never been around scoring goals. I think we’ve scored 121 league goals and 145, 150 whatever goals in total, so it’s not putting the ball in the back of the net that’s been the problem, largely. Although the last few weeks we haven’t looked as good in front of goal, but the six clean sheets is massive. You’ve got to build on defensive performances, and I think they don’t just come from the back line, the goalkeeper, they come from all over the pitch. I think our pressing today was much better, still not perfect, still not quite right, but we start from the front.”


He then spoke about where he sees improvement would be needed, with him saying “I think we’ve got to improve all over. Obviously, the standards that me and the staff drive and the standards that the players drive themselves on, I don’t think we got out of third gear today. I thought we showed some really good spells and some spells where we were a little bit sloppy and turned the ball over too many times, but next week it’s going to be an unbelievably tough game. Padiham are absolutely flying at the minute, I think they’re fourth, depending on the results today. Yeah, really good side, we played really well against them early in the season and beat them at their place, but I think they’re a much better side now than what they were, so it’s going to be a tough game and we’ve got to make sure we prepare right for it and go into it and hopefully try and get the three points.”


Dave then provided an update on Rustam Stepans after the Latvian was subbed off with an injury after assisting Bryan Ly with the 3rd, he said “Yeah, it was just a slight strain. I think he should probably be alright for next week, so we just need to try and get some tests done tomorrow. Obviously, it’s difficult now just after the game, but yeah, he’s obviously gutted a little bit, but we’ll do everything we can to get him back.”


Dave then spoke about whether he’s keeping an eye on Lower Brecks results as they play later tonight with him saying “Yeah, I mean obviously we’ll watch the games, it’s one of those things I think obviously when you get to the stage and see, we’ll look around at all the results, but it’s just more around seeing what’s going on. I think we know what we need to do and that’s the most important thing, that’s been the message and it’s been consistent to the players as soon as we’ve got our noses in front. We said probably back end October time that we need to be in with the pack, we need to be within three points, up or down, going into the new year and then when we start playing one game a week you’ll see us play better stuff, more improved both defensively and going forward and I think we’ve done that, we’ve got our noses in front and then it just becomes about us then. So we just need to take it one game at a time, I know it’s a cliche, but the only important game we’ve got now is next week against Padiham.”

Match Info: Squires Gate (H), Sat 29th Mar, 3pm KO

We’re back home after a three-week break, after wrapping up two amazing away wins in St Helens. Now, we’re all set to keep our winning streak going and make it 12 on the bounce.


We want to give a big shoutout to the fans who made the trip down the M62 two weekends in a row to cheer on the Shakers. You guys were incredible, creating that atmosphere that really pumps up the lads on the pitch!


A win would really crank up the pressure on our promotion rivals, Lower Breck, as they face FC Isle of Man in Douglas in the late Saturday evening kick off, we’ll be streaming the game live in Starkies from 6pm.


So, get down to Gigg, be loud, be proud and roar us on to another victory and let’s make up for that frustrating 4-4 draw in our first league game of the year.


You’ll be treated to some fantastic entertainment at halftime, with choirs and two solo singers brought together by our friends at English National Opera. Let’s show them how we support our team: UP THE SHAKERS!!!
In Opposition – Squires Gate

This will be a tough encounter as we face a team fighting for their premier division lives.

An away victory over FC Isle of Man on March 8th gave their fans a glimmer of hope, but the facts stare them in the face.


Over the season so far, Gate have collected only 28 points from 42 matches, leaving them at the bottom of the table. That win in Douglas was the only one in their last six games, along with two draws and three defeats.


But Gate are led by a shrewd manager in Luke Evans, who’s been at the Brian Addison Stadium since 2019. They’ll be well organised and hard to break down.

Jacket Potato van ‘Get Stuffed’ will return to the car park for this game, open from 12:30pm.

Starkies Bar
Before kick-off: Starkies will be open at the normal time of 12.30pm for supporters to access from the Manchester Road End entrance before kick-off. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis up to capacity, which will be managed on the door.

Supporters will only be able to gain entry by presenting their online ticket purchased in advance, and no re-entry will be allowed once supporters leave to take their seat ahead of kick-off.

Starkies Pass ticket holders will be permitted access at any time in line with their purchase.

During the game: After kick-off, the bar can be accessed by anyone situated in the Main Stand (via the door linked to the concourse) or in the South Stand (via the front of the Manchester Road End). The bar is open throughout the game, including at half-time.

Post-match: Starkies will be open to all, again up to capacity, with last orders at 9:30pm.
