New Date: Darlaston Town (A) – Wed 19th November

A new date has been confirmed for our league trip to Darlaston Town, which was postponed due to our FA Trophy tie against Runcorn Linnets.

This fixture will now take place on Wednesday 19th November, at 7:45pm.

All tickets purchased for the original date will be valid for the rearranged fixture. Fans who wish to purchase tickets can click here to do so.

We are also inviting expressions of interest from supporters who would like to travel with us on the official supporters coach.

After five league wins in a row we’re hopeful that we can make it a round half-dozen as we face Wythenshawe Town for the third time this season. We’ve beaten them twice, and have high hopes of making it three times.


Our stunning victory over Chasetown on Saturday knocked them off the top and kept us among the leaders. We’re only one point behind new leaders Avro and have played two matches fewer.


The attitude of our players and quality of their football was worthy of way above Tier Eight. To score four quality goals against the league leaders in less than half-an-hour was breathtaking.


This game is the second of only two we have at Gigg Lane during October. Our regular 3,000-plus gates are a great encouragement to the lads, and – along with the noise – intimidating to opponents.


So please don’t fail to get along and support the lads with more of that noise. Be part of the amazing things happening at Gigg Lane.

In Opposition – Wythenshawe Town

There’s a big gap between our position and Wythenshawe’s. They could manage only a draw at Newcastle Town on Saturday and are three places from the bottom.


We’ve already beaten them twice this season in the Isuzu FA Trophy first qualifying round. We won 3-1 in the first game and 2-1 in the replay ordered by the FA.


The fact that we were thrown out of the competition shows no one here was to blame for our inclusion of a player with an outstanding red card.

New Signing: Owen Barker

New Signing: Owen Barker

We are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Owen Barker.


The 20-year-old joins the Shakers after being released by Everton in the summer. He’s progressed through the ranks playing both in U18s Premier League and Premier League 2 for the Toffees.


Last season he made 16 appearances for the club, including an appearance off the bench in the EFL Trophy at Accrington and being in the squad for the first team’s trip to Southampton in the EFL Cup.


Upon signing for the club, Owen said: “I’m buzzing to sign and join this big club, can’t wait to play in front of the fans at Gigg Lane and help the team as much as possible. Up the Shakers.”


Owen will be available for selection for tomorrow’s fixture against Chasetown.

Incoming: James Neild

We can confirm the signing of defender James Neild.


The 24-year-old joins the club after leaving Warrington Rylands in the summer, where he’d been since 2022. He was appointed captain ahead of the 2023/24 season.


Neild also has former clubs such as Curzon Ashton, Hyde United, New Mills and Trafford.


“Absolutely over the moon to get this move completed, it is a real privilege to play for a club as big as Bury, he said.


“I’m really excited to play in front of the fans, and having already won this league with Dave and Tim, there is only one goal in mind.”


James will be available for selection for tomorrow’s fixture against Chasetown.

Jimmy Nicholson 1943 – 2025

Jimmy Nicholson 1943 – 2025

Everyone at the club was saddened to hear of the passing of another of our former players. Silky midfield general Jimmy Nicholson has sadly passed away at the age of 82.

Jimmy was one of rookie manager Bobby Smith’s first signings in December 1973 and he knew that he could trust him, having been a team-mate at Manchester United. Jimmy played 25 games as Smith guided the Shakers to promotion in 1973/1974 season and was also a creative mainstay in midfield at Gigg Lane for the following two seasons. In all, Jimmy played 95 league and cup games for the Shakers before moving on to Mossley, and later, Stalybridge Celtic.

Jimmy’s glittering career began with 58 games at Manchester United before moving on to Huddersfield Town in December 1964, where he spent ten successful seasons, winning promotion to the top flight in 1969/70. He also amassed 41 Northern Ireland caps.

Our thoughts are with Jimmy’s family and friends at this sad time.

It’s a mouth-watering prospect as the Shakers welcome league leaders Chasetown to Gigg Lane. Our hopes are high after four successive league victories, but the story of the Scholars season so far shows it will be tough.


They had a poor start, winning only one and drawing two of their first four games. But they then won five in a row and conceded only one goal in the process. And their victims included then leaders Lower Breck.


Our aim will be to break that sequence, and we go into the game fresh from our convincing win at Trafford on Tuesday. Yes, our only goal was Kieran Glynn’s penalty. But that by no means reflected our dominance.


We’re now fourth in the league with 17 points from eight games – only three behind Chasetown, and with a game in hand.


This is by far the biggest challenge of our season so far, so please get down to Gigg Lane and make sure you’re in good voice to make plenty of noise.

The Staffordshire club started life in 1954 as a secondary school old boys’ team – hence their nickname, the Scholars.

They were fourth in last season’s final league table, but lost on penalties in a play-off semi-final against Congleton Town.

That achievement reflected the progress the club has made. They enjoyed a brief spell in the Northern Premier League, and have also chalked up some brilliant performances in the FA Cup and FA Trophy.

Angels United isn’t just a football team — it’s a family. A safe space. A community where grief is understood without words, where memories are honoured, and where healing happens through shared stories, open arms, and sometimes just a simple nod across a pitch.


About Angels United
Angels United was founded in 2020 by 13 dads brought together through heartbreak — all of whom had experienced the loss of a child. From that shared pain, something truly powerful was created: a football club built on support, understanding, and togetherness.

What began as a small group has grown into a registered charity, providing emotional and practical support for bereaved families both on and off the pitch. Through football, they’ve built a space where people can come together to remember, to talk, and to find light in the darkest moments.


Tuesday Night Support Sessions
Every Tuesday evening, Angels United host free football-based support sessions. These aren’t about ability or competition — they’re about connection. Whether you want to play, watch, or simply be in the company of others who understand, you’ll always be welcome.

It’s a chance to talk, listen, or just share space with people who truly get it.


Global Wave of Light
Each October, during Baby Loss Awareness Week, Angels United join families around the world in the Global Wave of Light.

On 15th October at 7pm, candles are lit worldwide to remember every baby taken too soon. We encourage our supporters to join in this moment of reflection — light a candle, take a quiet moment, and share your photos by tagging @angelsunitedfc on social media. Together, these lights shine brightly in memory of every angel gone too soon.

This year, Angels United will also take to the pitch on 12th October at Stalybridge Celtic (kick-off 11am) for a special fixture against Honeysuckle FC, another team made up of bereaved dads. Entry is free, and all are welcome to attend. There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off to remember all the babies and children represented by the names on their shirts.
