Emirates FA Cup – Fourth Qualifying Round Draw Details

This afternoon we will find out who we face in the Fourth Qualifying Round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup.

We have won five ties to get to this stage – all of which have come away from home.

Our Cup Run:
Extra Preliminary Round – W 4-2 vs Congleton Town (a) Preliminary Round – W 3-1 vs Avro (a) First Qualifying Round – W 2-0 vs Garforth Town (a) Second Qualifying Round – W 2-0 vs Blyth Spartans (a) Third Qualifying Round – W 3-2 vs Radcliffe (a)   Today’s draw remains regionalised, 64 ties will come from this draw. 15 in the North & 17 in the South.

We are ball number 14 in the north draw.

We can confirm the departure of goalkeeper Tom Stewart.
 
The 28 year old joined the club in the summer from Lancaster City. 
 
  He made eight appearances, including two big FA Cup wins at Congleton & Avro.

Match Info: Radcliffe (A), Sat 28th Sept, 3pm KO

Home victories over Stockport Town in the league and Burscough in the Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round take our unbeaten run to 17 games. And that’s not to mention third place in the NW Counties league table with games in hand.
 
It all provides an excellent springboard for our dive into the deep waters of the game against supreme rivals Radcliffe.
 
But the Shakers made many fans shake with fear by conceding a late, late goal in the one-sided game against Town on Tuesday. Rustam Stepans had scored from a penalty on 55 minutes, and a second goal from Sam Coughlan on the stroke of 90 finally seemed to have clinched it.
 
But three minutes later Harley Monaghan sparked a scary ending but a satisfactory 2-1 result.
 
Goals from Ruben Jerome, Ben Hockenhull and Rustam Stepans made the Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round win against Burscough on Saturday a complete contrast. It seemed all over by half-time. And so it was: 3-0.

It’s not been a good start in the Vanarama National League North for newly-promoted Radcliffe. They’re currently bottom: played 8, won 0, drawn 4, lost 4.
 
The 2-1 away win against Warrington in the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round will have given morale at the club a hefty boost. And they will be hoping for another when they take on Bury at the Neuven Stadium in the third qualifying round.
 
The game will have special resonance for 37-year-old Nicky Adams, who played for Bury during his long career in league football.
 
Radcliffe football club came into being as Radcliffe Borough in 1949. It was a bitter blow for many in the town when it became part of Bury Metropolitan Borough in 1974. And that may explain why it took so long for the club to drop “Borough” from its title – in 2018.

  Public Transport: The 98 Bus is the only direct bus route, running from Bury Town Centre to outside the Neuven Stadium.

Nearest Tram Stop: Radcliffe. After arriving at Radcliffe Tram Station, turn left out of the car park and walk straight to the top of the road (Spring Lane) at the traffic lights, turn right pass the Royal Oak Pub and follow the road until the next set of traffic lights near Tesco. Turn Right and head up Ainsworth Road, until you reach the Victoria Pub. Turn left onto Lowe Street and the Neuven Stadium is at the end of the road on the right turning into Colshaw Close East. The journey takes around 20 minutes.

Driving: M60 junction 17 follow signs for Whitefield and Bury. Take A665 to Radcliffe via by-pass to Bolton Road. Signposted to turn right into Unsworth Street. The Neuven Stadium is on the left approximately half a mile turning into Colshaw Close East. Enter M26 3PE for those using Sat Navs.

Parking: There is no parking for fans on the Neuven Stadium’s ground, alternative parking is available at the Cricket Ground which is a 5-minute walk away or street parking, obviously goes without saying please be respectful to our neighbours and do not park inappropriately and/or in front of driveways.

Ground Facilities: This fixture will be separated between home & away supporters. There will be a food van which serves the likes of chips, burgers, hot dogs etc, hot and cold drinks. There is an outside bar which serves a range of beers.

Recruitment Update – September 2024

Our Head of Recruitment Jimmy Holmes has provided the following update for supporters:

We are now 2 months into the season. I just wanted to provide an update on the new squad with an insight into how we’ve gone about it.
 
From day one at Bury FC my job was to help build a squad that could compete at the top end of the table and ultimately gain promotion, but also go on and progress up to the next league once we get there.
 
Previously the club had a high turnover of players throughout the past 4 seasons. We wanted to change this and add in players for the long term.
 
The next stage was to take what the club had from last season. We only had a handful of players that had committed so we had to build an entirely new squad.
 
We had a number of key targets that had been watched on numerous occasions that we wanted to bring to the club so when we made our approach we were fully confident in the player.
 
They are a brand new squad that will take time to fulfill its potential with an average age of 23. It was part of our plan to also build a squad that is younger. Long term we don’t want to have a relatively high average age & we don’t want to be having to re-build like in previous years.
 
We have a clear plan on how we want to get there. Even if it isn’t always easy to bring the right players into Bury FC it’s important that the individual players we sign can identify with our path. Players who can handle the pressure of playing for Bury FC but who can also handle the expectations week in week out.
 
Players that can go on a journey with the club, identify with fans and be ready for the next challenge when the club gets there. We want to invest in these players now so the rewards will come later down the road after making 50/100/150 appearances for the club. That is something unique at these levels of football. If you want to build something, you have to think two or three years ahead.
 
Most of the players are of an age, so that in one, two or three years they will still be at a good footballer’s age and everyone’s goal is to move forward with the club.
 
The purpose of good recruitment is to find players who fit a team’s style of play before anyone else realises how good they are clubs can also look for undervalued players. We wanted to bring into the club players that the fans might not have heard about before. New players that we believe can go and take the club on to another level. Players who may not have played in a certain position before who we can develop and fit into our system & style of play.
 
If the players individually and squad collectively keep their levels high it’s going to be a pleasure to watch them moving forward.
 
We don’t want to copy other clubs we want to recruit the best talent for our club and be unique.
