The Final Charity Match
Bury Football Club to host special charity final at Gigg Lane for local youngsters. Bury FC is proud to welcome a group of Tottington High School students to Gigg Lane later this month, as they bring their remarkable charity initiative to a fitting conclusion. Over recent weeks, the students have developed their own football tournament series, raising funds for Cancer Research UK in honour of a close friend who sadly lost his mum to cancer. What makes this story so powerful isn’t just the cause, it’s how they’ve gone about it. Without external backing or adult support, the group has taken full ownership of the project. From coordinating fixtures and sourcing pitches to handling budgets, sponsorship outreach and event promotion, they’ve approached the initiative with a level of professionalism well beyond their years. Their journey hasn’t been without its challenges, but their consistency and determination have seen the project grow, building momentum across the local community and exceeding their initial fundraising expectations. Recognising the impact of their efforts, Bury Football Club is delighted to provide the stage for their final event on Sunday 26th April – offering the opportunity to play at Gigg Lane and celebrate everything they’ve achieved together. Casey Lynchey, Head of Operations & Community at Bury Football Club, said: “We’ve been genuinely moved by what these young lads have achieved. The resilience, organisation and compassion they’ve shown for their friend and for others is something that deserves to be recognised and celebrated. At Bury FC, community is at the heart of everything we do, so to be able to welcome them to Gigg Lane for their final is a real privilege. We hope this experience creates lasting memories for them and inspires others to see what can be achieved when people come together. For us, this is about more than hosting a match. It’s about recognising and championing a group of young people who are making a real difference.” The club hopes the occasion will not only celebrate the group’s outstanding efforts, but also shine a light on the positive influence young people continue to have across the community. With donations now exceeding £1,000, the initiative has already made a meaningful impact, but there is still an opportunity to go even further. Support remains open and any additional donations or sponsorship will play a vital role in helping the group maximise their contribution to such an important cause. We urge the Bury community to get behind the campaign and help take their fundraising efforts even further. View the full article

Memorial Match
The final home game of the season will once again serve as our dedicated Memorial Match – a moment of reflection, unity, and remembrance for the Bury FC family. On this special day, we will come together to honour and celebrate the lives of fellow Shakers who are no longer with us, with particular tribute paid to those who have passed over the past year. Their passion, loyalty, and presence remain an enduring part of our club’s story. If you are aware of any supporters who have sadly passed away since May 2025, please contact shakersobituaries@gmail.com so we can ensure they are included in this year’s remembrance (those already featured in the matchday programme will automatically be included). As part of the tribute, a commemorative wreath will be laid ahead of kick-off – a poignant symbol of respect and remembrance. Following the match, it will be placed in the memorial garden, where it will stand as a lasting tribute. Last season, supporters generously funded the wreath, with additional donations going to a wonderful cause. This year, thanks to the kindness of Bernadette Gibson Funeral Director – one of our valued sponsors – the cost of the wreath has been fully covered. This means that every penny donated by fans will go directly to Bury Hospice, in loving memory of the Shakers we have lost. We will also take a moment to remember those connected with our opponents that day, Witton Albion, as we come together on Saturday 18th April in a shared show of respect. If you wish to donate, please click here. Together, we remember. Together, we honour. Once a Shaker, always a Shaker. View the full article

Match Info: Clitheroe (A), Mon 6th Apr, 3:00pm KO
It’s back on the road on Easter Monday as The Shakers make the 26-mile trip to Clitheroe. With only four games left in the season, we sit four points clear at the top of the table. Anthony Johnson’s side will make the trip full of confidence after a 4-1 win on Good Friday against Congleton Town, extending their winning run to four games. The two sides last faced on Boxing Day, when goals from Rustam Stepans and Leo Graham solidified a 2-0 win at Gigg Lane. Important Update: Good Friday Fixture
We can provide an important update ahead of our Good Friday clash with Congleton Town at Gigg Lane. Thanks to a huge effort behind the scenes, we have now secured the necessary safety and medical provisions required for the fixture, enabling a crowd of over 5,000. This has been achieved through close collaboration with our partners at EMFRS, NWAS and GMP, and we would like to place on record our sincere thanks for their support. As a result, we’re delighted to confirm that pay on the gate will now be available for Friday’s match. However, please continue to purchase tickets in advance where possible and arrive early to help with the logistics of a potentially larger than average crowd. We also want to provide some context around the earlier all-ticket decision. Since we returned to Gigg Lane, we have achieved a crowd of 5000+ just four times (the return game v Glossop, the Boxing Day fixtures v Ramsbottom and Clitheroe, and the final game of last season). This season, we have hosted just one fixture with a crowd exceeding 4,000 (Boxing Day attendance 5,337). Achieving a crowd of 5000 is a 47% increase to our average crowd that we haven’t seen in the run in to the final game of the season in previous seasons. However, the results over the last week materially impacted the likelihood of achieving a larger crowd for this Friday’s fixture. Matches of this scale require extensive planning, specialist resources and, crucially, significant lead-in time to ensure everything is delivered safely and effectively. There is also a substantial financial consideration. Securing these additional services across a full season of home league fixtures would cost the club in excess of £95,000. As such, these arrangements must be carefully managed and are not always possible at short notice. A number of factors must be carefully balanced, including demand, operational planning, safety requirements and overall sustainability, to ensure we continue to act in the best long-term interests of the club. We would like to thank our staff, who have worked tirelessly to make this possible, as well as our supporters and members for your patience, understanding and continued backing. Now, let’s pack out Gigg Lane with a crowd of over 5,000, get right behind the lads and create an atmosphere worthy of the occasion as we head into what promises to be a huge Good Friday and an exciting Easter weekend of football. Walker Returns and Commits Future
He’s back, and he’s here to stay! We’re delighted to welcome Aiden Walker back to Gigg Lane following his short-term loan spell at Hednesford Town. Aiden returns sharper, stronger, and ready to make his mark as we push forward this season. And that’s not all… Aiden has put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping him at Bury FC until the end of the 2026/27 season! Before a serious shoulder injury derailed his promising start to the 2025/26 season, Aiden played a pivotal role in our 15 match winning run at the end of the 2024/25 season that saw us lift the North West Counties Premier Divison in style, helping us to 9 consecutive clean sheets along the way. Great to have you back, Aiden! View the full article

Match Info: Congleton Town (H), Fri 3rd April, 3:00pm KO
The Shakers welcome a struggling Congleton Town side to Gigg Lane this weekend, hoping to continue a three-game unbeaten run. Sitting four points clear at the top with five games to go, Anthony Johnson’s side will know how much a win this weekend would mean in our bid for automatic promotion. Our opposition, Congleton Town, sit at the opposite end of the table in 17th, just three points above the drop. The two sides last meeting ended in a 0-0 draw in last August. In Opposition – Congleton Town Congleton Town, also known as The Bears, were formed in 1901 where they joined the Crewe and District League. The side have played at the same ground, Cleric Stadium, since 1903, and they reached the FA Cup First Round Proper in 1989-90, losing out to Crewe Alexandra. After more than twenty years away, The Bears returned to the Northern Premier League West in 2024, and achieved their highest finish of third last season, where they narrowly missed out in the play-off final to Hednesford Town. On the Day & In the Ground Our Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Tickets are still on sale via our ticketing page on our website. Pay on the gate will also be available. There is no segregation for this fixture, but Congleton supporters are asked to purchase their tickets here. Due to the fixture being moved to Good Friday, we’ve faced some logistical challenges in preparing for larger matchday crowds, particularly around securing additional emergency services, which typically require at least a month’s notice for attendances above 5,000. We are working closely with providers to have everything in place, but at present, capacity is capped at 4,999. As a result, the match will be ALL-TICKET, and supporters are strongly encouraged to purchase in advance to avoid disappointment. Should we be able to safely increase capacity, we will review and update fans immediately so let’s pack out Gigg Lane and get right behind the lads this Good Friday! Starkies will be open at the normal time of 12.30pm for supporters to access from the Manchester Road End entrance before kick-off. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis up to capacity, which will be managed on the door. You MUST have a ticket for entry. ALL TICKET: Good Friday vs Congleton Town (H)
Bury fans, it’s shaping up to be a massive Good Friday at Gigg Lane as we take on Congleton Town in a crucial clash you won’t want to miss! Due to the recent switch of the fixture to a bank holiday on Good Friday, we’ve encountered some logistical challenges around matchday provisions for larger crowds. Matches exceeding 5,000 supporters require additional emergency services to be in place, arrangements that normally need to be secured at least a month in advance. We are currently working closely with providers to try and have everything in place for Friday. However, as it stands, the maximum capacity for the game is set at 4,999. With this in mind, the match will be ALL TICKET. We strongly encourage all supporters to purchase their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. If and when we are able to confirm the necessary provisions to safely increase capacity, we will review the situation and keep you updated immediately. Let’s pack out Gigg Lane and get right behind the lads this Good Friday! You can purchase your tickets by clicking the link here. View the full article
