Bury Football Club is delighted to invite all fans aged 15-17 to apply for a position on the newly established Youth Advisory Board. As announced at the Members Forum in July, the Youth Advisory Board will work closely with Club staff to establish effective two-way dialogue in a professional and safe environment. Led by Football Supporters’ Society of Bury Board Member, Brad Seymour, the Youth Advisory Board will liaise with the Club and Community Trust. The Club aims to increase engagement with younger supporters and discuss strategic decisions with the next generation of Bury FC fans. The board will discuss youth initiatives, ticketing, events, stadium development, long-term planning and more. The Youth Advisory Board will be made up of 15-17 year old fans, subject to consent from a parent or guardian. All fans will sit on the board for one season and are welcome to reapply subject to age. Successful supporters will be invited to attend an introductory meeting at Gigg Lane where fans will meet members of the board, discuss expectations and consider their priorities as the new Youth Advisory Board. We can confirm that defender Aiden Walker has left the club by mutual consent. Aiden returned to action at the Salford Van Hire Gigg Lane Stadium on Saturday, coming off the bench for the final 30 minutes against Wythenshawe in the Emirates FA Cup. It marked a welcome return for the defender, who spent the majority of last season sidelined, following shoulder surgery, before further injury setbacks during pre-season. Following discussions between Aiden and manager Anthony Johnson, the decision has now been made for the 26-year-old to leave the club and pursue regular first-team football. Over the summer holidays, Bury FC proudly ran our biggest Holiday Club to date in partnership with the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF). Across an incredible 14 days, children from the local community enjoyed a fantastic programme of football, fun activities, and nutritious meals, making the most of their summer holidays at Gigg Lane. The camp was a huge success, welcoming more children than ever before and giving them the opportunity to get active, make new friends, develop their football skills, and experience life at their local football club. Our partnership with HAF also meant we could continue providing valuable support to local families during the school holidays. We have been drawn at home to fellow Northern Premier League Premier Division side Workington Town in the Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round draw. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday 19th September, with further details around the game to be released in the coming week. It will be the fourth meeting between the two sides in the FA Cup, having first battled it out in the 1971/72 season with the Shakers coming away with a 3-1 victory. Five years later in November 1976, it was a comfortable 6-0 win for Bury at Gigg Lane with the third meeting coming in the 2007/08 campaign. Workington, then in the Blue Square North, looked to be taking the game to a replay before Andy Bishop popped up with a late hat-trick to send the Shakers in the Second Round – part of one of the more memorable runs for fans. A 1-0 win against Exeter City followed before Bishop sent the travelling fans wild at Norwich, heading home from Brian Barry-Murphy’s free kick. The home side equalised to set up a replay, with 4,146 in attendance to see the Shakers knock the Championship side out and set up a trip to Southampton – Richie Baker hitting the post early on and then the hosts running out 2-0 winners. Making an ideal start to their FA Cup campaign Bury put in another high scoring home performance beating NPL West outfit Wythenshawe 8-0 at Gigg Lane. In the week Anthony Johnson had lamented Bury’s wastefulness in front of goal and it seemed it would be more of the same in this tie. Connor Pye burst down the left but his cross was picked out by goalkeeper Ryan Forde while Owen Robinson saw a cross fall to Mo Touray but he didn’t make solid contact with the shot. Further chances came and went, Leo Graham was teed up but couldn’t take a shot, Oscar Threlkeld headed wide from a corner, Touray headed another over the bar while Bobby Carroll’s brilliant pass deserved to be put away by Tom Carr. It could have been a different story had Wythenshawe put away a chance of their own as Princewell Anuniru got in behind the defence. Threlkeld blocked the shot and made the clearance. It was set to be another frustrating day until Connor Pye appeared at the far post to head in Owen Robinson’s cross and open the scoring. This broke the seal and in the fifteen minute spell that followed the Shakers couldn’t stop scoring. Seconds after the restart Leo Graham played in Carr who rounded the keeper and finished into the open net. Bury continued to look the most likely to score, Kai Evans made it three on 40 minutes. Surging towards goal and working a neat one-two with Touray before finishing into the bottom corner. 3-0 turned to 4-0 when Touray was fouled outside the box. Evans took the free kick and left Forde stationary as he grabbed his second. Wythenshawe must have been begging for halftime but Bury kept on coming. One minute into stoppage time Robinson’s cross from the left was headed in by Touray. Then before the referee could blow for halftime it was six. Connor Pye again at the far post had all the time in the world to fire a shot into the top corner. Three minutes into the second half and Bury scored their seventh. Touray pulling the ball back to Robinson to fire into the bottom corner. Bury fans by now were looking up record scores in cup matches. In a relatively quiet second half the goals were harder to come by but it wasn’t for lack of effort. The most likely to score again was Kai Evans in search of his third. He crossed to Jes Uchegbulam but the substitute just missed contact. Evans went for it alone next time seeing a long range effort tipped over by Forde. Evans wouldn’t be denied again and with Uchegbulam as provider he struck into the top corner for his hat-trick and Bury’s eighth. View lineups and more in our match centre. It was a bank holiday weekend of highs and lows for The Shakers, who succumbed to a 2-1 defeat on the road to Hyde United on Monday afternoon after smashing Ilkeston Town 7-0 two days prior. Now, Anthony Johnson’s side set their sights on a run of home games, welcoming Wythenshawe in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup this Saturday. The Shakers will hope to capitalise on our stellar form at Gigg Lane so far, having won three of their first four home games. Wythenshawe progressed after beating Mossley 2-0 at home, their third win of the season. In Opposition – Wythenshawe Wythenshawe were originally founded in 1946 by Reg Gauntlet, who was a local Window Cleaner, becoming members of the South Manchester and Wythenshawe League. After being evicted from their home of 32 years in May 2015, the club secured £812,000 of funding to build a new clubhouse and pitch. The club won back to back titles in 2023 and 2024, reaching their highest level, the Northern Premier League West Division, in the process. In recent years, Wythenshawe have received online stardom for a veterans team that boasts multiple ex-internationals and Premier League winners, including Stephen Ireland, Emile Heskey, Danny Drinkwater, Papiss Cisse, Antonio Valencia, and Joleon Lescott. The Up The Shakers name will now be worn proudly across the front of the famous white and blue shirt throughout the season, a fitting symbol of what can be achieved when Bury supporters come together to back their club. This is far more than a sponsorship deal or an opportunity to put our logo on a shirt. It is a direct investment in the future of Bury Football Club. Supporting the next generation The Under-21s provide an essential bridge between youth football and the senior game. It is at this stage that promising young players must adapt to a faster, stronger and more demanding level of football while continuing to develop their technical ability, confidence and understanding of the game. Without a strong development pathway, talented young players can easily be lost to the club. Supporting the Under-21s gives them the opportunity to train, compete, and demonstrate their ability to progress further. The money provided through sponsorship contributes to the practical costs of running and developing the team. This includes areas such as playing and training equipment, match balls, medical supplies, travel, facilities and wider support for young players who may otherwise find the financial demands of football difficult. Every contribution made by an Up The Shakers member has therefore helped create a better and more stable environment in which these players can develop. Building a pathway to the first team For a club like Bury, developing our own players should be a central part of the long-term strategy. A successful Under-21 setup can provide the first team with players who already understand the club, its expectations and what it means to represent the town. It can also reduce the need to continually recruit from elsewhere and may eventually create valuable assets for the club. Not every Under-21 player will go on to become a first-team regular, but every player deserves the best possible opportunity to reach their potential. A properly supported development team gives the coaching staff more time and better resources to work with players, while giving those players a meaningful standard of competitive football. It also gives younger supporters players they can follow as they progress through the club—from the Under-21s and, hopefully, into the first-team squad. A forum that does more than talk Up The Shakers was created as a place for Bury supporters to discuss the club, share opinions and remain connected. However, our members have repeatedly shown that the forum can be much more than a place for conversation. When the opportunity arose to support the Under-21s, members responded. Some donated larger amounts, others contributed whatever they could afford, but every donation helped us reach the target. This sponsorship belongs to every member who contributed, shared the appeal or encouraged others to get involved. Seeing the Up The Shakers name on the front of a Bury FC shirt is something we can all be proud of. It represents the collective effort of supporters who care deeply about the club and want to play a positive role in rebuilding its future. What it means to the players For the young players wearing the shirt, the sponsorship also sends an important message: the supporters are watching, they care about their progress, and they want them to succeed. Pulling on a Bury FC shirt already carries responsibility. Wearing one backed directly by the club’s supporters adds another layer of meaning. It connects the players with the people in the stands and reminds them that the development team is an important part of the wider club. We hope the players wear the shirt with pride and recognise that an entire community of supporters is behind them. Bury FC had not received official communication from FC United regarding the ticketing arrangements before tickets went on sale. Having reached out to FC United on Monday, we have since received communication from the home club, including confirmation of the ticketing plans, segregation arrangements, and allocations. As the tickets were being sold directly by FC United, rather than through Bury FC, it was not possible for us to operate a Bury FC season ticket holder priority window for this fixture. Hyde United (A) | Match Highlights | NPL Premier | 2026/27

A third defeat in five matches underlines what has been a frustrating pattern for Bury early this season. All the irresistible attacking play of 48 hours earlier disappeared and two defensive lapses condemned the Shakers to a 2-1 loss away to Hyde United. Looking to make an immediate impact Kai Evans sent in a cross that had to be well picked out by Hyde keeper Jordan Eastham with Mo Touray lurking. Touray was in the thick of it again holding the ball up well in the penalty area and playing the ball off for Bailey Sloane to shoot. The strike deflected wide for a corner. It seemed Bury were destined to score when on an attack a slick backheel by Tom Carr left Evans with an open sight of goal, his shot however was well saved by Eastham. Despite the early promise it was the home team that opened the scoring. On their first attack a long ball down the middle found Max McCarthy, on loan from Radcliffe, who rounded the keeper and finished into an empty net. Despite Bury protests the linesman’s flag stayed down. The offence taken by the offside flag not going up was compounded minutes later when Tom Carr burst down the left wing squaring to Kai Evans to score only to see the other assistant referee had raised his flag for what looked to be a well timed run. Despite their efforts it looked as though Bury would go in a the break trailing but a moment of magic in midfield levelled the sides. George Glendon, usually content to hold back and let play develop, went on a long solo run. He weaved in and out of defenders trying to bring him down before he shot towards the bottom corner out of reach for Eastham and claimed a deserved equaliser for the visitors. After halftime Bury came out of the traps well. Tom Carr was nearly through but for a one on one tussle with Will Hall. The Tigers centre back did enough to steer the ball away from danger. Mo Touray and Owen Robison worked well together Robinson teeing up Touray who shot wide while when returning the favour later Robinson’s effort from Touray deflected and was saved. The home defence was tiring, sitting deeper and getting increasingly desperate with their clearances. Leo Graham burst into the box and forced another good save from Eastham while a James Neild cross was headed wide by Carr. Yet time wore on and no goal materialised. The momentum slowed to a stall and from nowhere the hosts scored again. Max McCarthy at the centre of it all got to a loose ball ahead of Bailey Sloane and suddenly Bury were on their heels and forced to defend a two on one situation. Louis Isherwood rushed to cut off McCarthy but that left former Blackpool man Jack Redshaw unmarked and he easily powered his effort to bottom corner. Immediately attacking options from the bench were added in Anthony Dudley, Luca Navarro and Jes Uchegbulam. The subs nearly made the perfect start, Dudley crossed the ball to Navarro who shot over the bar from a very tight angle. Still reeling Bury nearly fell three behind had Yann Songo’o done better with a shot saved low by Allen and a looping effort that went over the bar. As has been the case in other matches the Shakers struggled to break down opposing defences packed deeply in their own half. A Leo Graham cross from the right flashed across the box, three or four Bury players had a chance to get to it but all missed the connection. There was one moment Bury got in behind the Hyde defence. Jes Uchegbulam latching onto a ball forward, picked his moment and struck a thumping effort that beat Eastham but crashed against the near post. At the end of five minutes of added time a cross from the left was headed on by Uchegbulam straight into the path of Graham. With the whole goal open to him his header was straight at Eastham who gladly accepted it in the last meaningful action of a disappointing match for Bury. View lineups and more in our match centre. In Opposition – Hyde UnitedFounded in 1885, Hyde United were dealt their most humiliating defeat in their first two years, losing 26-0 to Preston North End in the FA Cup. In the 1887-1888 season, Hyde met Newton Heath (now Manchester United), with the local press referring to the game as the unofficial championship of Manchester. Hyde adopted their nickname, The Tigers, in the 1960s, becoming founding members of the Northern Premier League in the same year. Hyde have reached as high as the National League, and as low as the Northern Premier League Division One North in the last fifteen years. Admission & TicketsAlthough the match is not all-ticket, tickets are available online for Bury FC supporters to help ease congestion and speed up entry at the Away turnstiles.
