Bury Born: Shakers Extend Partnership with Global Giant JD
Bury Football Club is delighted to announce an extension to its partnership with JD, continuing the relationship between two organisations with proud roots in the town. The renewed partnership further strengthens JD’s association with the Shakers and continues the support of one of Bury’s biggest business success stories for the football club at the heart of its hometown. From Bury to the World Few businesses can boast a connection to Bury quite like JD. Founded by John Wardle and David Makin in 1981, JD began life with a single store in Bury, Greater Manchester, originally trading as John David Sports. From those beginnings, the company expanded across the North West before opening its first London store on Oxford Street in 1989. More than four decades later, JD has developed into one of the world’s leading sports fashion retailers, with more than 4,800 stores across 51 countries and a presence spanning the UK, Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. Despite that remarkable international growth, the company retains strong links to the town where its story began, with JD Group’s headquarters remaining in Bury and the brand continuing to operate a store in the town at The Rock. That shared Bury identity makes the continuation of the partnership particularly significant for the Club. Proudly Bury As Bury FC continues to grow both on and off the pitch, developing relationships with businesses which share a genuine connection to the town remains an important part of the Club’s commercial strategy. JD’s journey, from one store in Bury to a globally recognised name in sport and fashion, represents one of the town’s greatest business success stories. The extension will see JD continue its association with Bury FC, bringing together two instantly recognisable names with deep connections to the borough and a shared passion for sport. Chris Watts, Head of Commercial & Media at Bury FC, said: Declan Walsh, Sports Partnerships Lead at JD said: The partnership extension represents another positive step in the continued development of Bury FC’s commercial programme, as the Club works to create long term relationships with local, regional and national brands. From humble beginnings in Bury to becoming a global name, JD’s story is one that continues to put the town on the map, and Bury FC is delighted to have them continuing alongside us. Bury born. Global success. Proud partners. View the full article

Bury FC Achieves She Belongs Standard
Bury Football Club is proud to announce that it has achieved the She Belongs Standard from Manchester FA, recognising the club’s commitment to creating female-friendly facilities and an environment that provides equal opportunities for women and girls. The achievement was celebrated at the club last week with the presentation of a She Belongs Standard plaque, with a number of women and girls from across Bury FC’s football community joining the celebration, presented by Georgie Oliver, Facilities & Investment Manager and Leigh Gell, Football Development Officer (Women & Girls) from Manchester FA. The She Belongs Standard focuses on ensuring that women and girls feel welcome, comfortable and able to access football facilities. As part of the standard, facilities are assessed against areas including clean and well-stocked toilets, accessible sanitary products, equal access for women and girls, clear signage and well-lit facilities, reflective imagery and a sense of belonging. For Bury FC, achieving the standard represents an important step in ensuring that women and girls feel that they have a place within the club and its facilities and follows on from the long-standing work the club has done with HerGameToo. The achievement also provides an opportunity to celebrate the wider work taking place across Bury FC to develop women’s and girls’ football. The club is committed to creating opportunities for women and girls to participate in football and to support the development of the game across the club. This includes providing opportunities across different age groups, developing coaches and volunteers, engaging with the local community and continuing to build a positive environment for players and their families. Bury FC also recognises the importance of making football accessible and welcoming beyond the pitch, with facilities, communication and the overall matchday and football experience playing an important role in helping women and girls feel that they belong. Dunsters Farm Extends Bury FC Partnership to Become Official Community Partner
Bury Football Club is delighted to announce an extension to our commercial partnership with long-standing local business Dunsters Farm, who will become the club’s Official Community Partner. The new agreement strengthens the relationship between two organisations with deep roots in Bury and a shared commitment to making a positive difference across the borough. Already a valued commercial partner of the club, Dunsters Farm’s expanded partnership will place an increased emphasis on community engagement, supporting Bury FC’s ambition to use the power and reach of the football club to create a lasting positive impact throughout the town. Bury Born and Bred Dunsters Farm is an independent, third-generation family-run foodservice business whose history in Bury stretches back more than 60 years. The company’s story began with founder Les Ratcliffe and a milk round before the family moved to Dunsters Farm in Brandlesholme. Dunsters Farm became a limited company in 1963 and has since developed into a major foodservice supplier, providing thousands of products to customers across education, healthcare, hospitality and catering throughout the North of England. Despite that growth, Bury has remained at the heart of the business. After operating from Brandlesholme and later Tottington, Dunsters moved to its purpose-built headquarters at Waterfold Park in 2006, where the company remains based today. That strong local identity is matched by a longstanding commitment to supporting the communities in which Dunsters operates. Over the years, the business has supported a range of charities and community initiatives, including food banks and organisations tackling food poverty. During the challenges of 2020, Dunsters used its resources, stock and delivery network to support local residents, charities and key workers, with donations and assistance provided to organisations including Bury Council foodbanks and FareShare. More recently, Dunsters Farm became Festival Sponsor of the 2026 Bury Food & Drink Festival, supporting an event designed to bring people into the town centre and showcase Bury’s independent businesses, traders and hospitality sector. Becoming Bury FC’s Official Community Partner represents the latest chapter in that commitment. A Partnership Built Around Bury Through the extended partnership, Bury FC and Dunsters Farm will work together to strengthen the club’s community activity and identify opportunities to support people and organisations across the borough. For the club, the partnership also demonstrates the value of building long-term relationships with local businesses that share Bury FC’s ambitions beyond the pitch. Chris Watts, Head of Commercial & Media at Bury FC, said: Hannah Barlow, Managing Director of Dunsters Farm, added: Bury FC would like to thank everyone at Dunsters Farm for their continued support of the club, and we look forward to working together throughout the partnership as we continue to strengthen our impact across the borough. James Neild extends contract
Bury FC can confirm that James Neild has extended his contract until the end of the 2027/28 season. Neild joined the Shakers in October 2025 following his departure from Warrington Rylands, where he had spent three seasons and captained the club during the 2023/24 campaign. The defender played a key role in our title-winning 2025/26 season, making 30 appearances across all competitions, including 28 starts, and playing 2,558 minutes. He has continued to be a regular this season, starting 12 matches so far. Neild has also scored once and registered an assist, with his goal coming in the 3-2 victory over Curzon Ashton. Since joining the club, Neild has established himself as an important figure both on and off the pitch. Manager Anthony Johnson was delighted to secure Neild’s future with the club. For Neildy, the decision to extend his stay was an easy one after experiencing life at Bury since his arrival last year. Neild has previously played for Warrington Rylands, Curzon Ashton, Hyde United, New Mills and Trafford, and will now remain at Gigg Lane through to the end of the 2027/28 season. Match Info: Bromsgrove Sporting (H), Sat 3rd Oct, 3pm KO
After beating Gainsborough Trinity on penalties last Saturday, The Shakers turn their attention to an FA Cup Third Qualifying Round fixture against Bromsgrove Sporting. Anthony Johnson’s side will be hoping to make it three for three this weekend after beating Workington and Gainsborough in successive cup fixtures. With another three goals scored on Saturday, Bury’s goal tally this season stands at 35, averaging nearly 4 goals a game at home. Bromsgrove Sporting, who play in the Southern League Premier Division Central, visit Gigg Lane off the back of a midweek draw against Leamington. In Opposition – Bromsgrove Sporting Established in 2009, Bromsgrove Sporting was formed in response to the town’s club, Bromsgrove Rovers, being left without a senior non-league football club after financial collapse. The club picked up their first piece of silverware in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Challenge Cup in the 2013/14 season, and earned promotion to the Midland Football League Division One with 104 points three seasons later. In 2024, the club secured Step 3 status and recorded their highest ever league and points tally at that level. Bromsgrove Sporting’s ownership model doesn’t allow one individual to hold more than 10% of the club, reflecting the previous club’s storied history of financial collapse. Bury 3-3 (6-5 pens) Gainsborough Trinity: Match Report
Late drama at Gigg Lane saw Bury have to overcome visitors Gainsborough Trinity via the penalty shootout after a 3-1 lead turned into a 3-3 draw during second half stoppage time. Anthony Johnson making good on his promise to field fringe players in the FA Trophy made six changes from the win against Workington. Among the changes was new signing Daniel Adshead who made his debut while Liam Gould and Murat Aydogan from the Under21s made the bench. Playing in a different shape and with different personnel it took Bury a while to find their feet. Luca Navarro had the best early chance when his shot beat keeper David Robson but was cleared off the line. While Gainsborough found themselves with the ball quite often they offered little going forward, Mitch Allen only required to make a couple of routine saves. Bury took the lead as Luca Navarro bounded down the left and sent in a cross to Anthony Dudley to force home the opener. It was a first senior Bury goal for the former Bury youth player. Dudley nearly had a second as Bailey Sloane’s super forward ball found James Melhado, his cross reached Dudley at full stretch but he could only put it into the side netting. After the break Bury were lackadaisical and allowed Gainsborough to claim a foothold in the match, a Javelle Clarke shot was blazed over the bar. Against the run of play Bury claimed a second. Luca Navarro afforded too much time and space cut inside and shot from outside the box to the far post beyond the reach of Robson. The visitors never stopped looking to get back into the match. Fraser Preston had a shot tipped over by Mitch Allen before a scramble in the Bury box that could have gone anywhere was barely cleared by an under pressure Shakers defence. Things came to a head when the Holy Blues were awarded a penalty. Mitch Allen got a hand to the spot kick but Lewis Butroid was not to be denied. The match was on a knife’s edge, Trinity’s Callum Brown saw a shot saved well by Allen while at the other end Rustam Stepans hit the bar with a long range blast. First team regulars in Owen Robinson and Kai Evans were brought on and Bury found another gear. An Evans free kick spun wide of the far post while Robinson forced a good save from the keeper to force a corner. In the 88th minute Kai Evans taking a corner kick launched an inswinger that beat Robson and found the far corner of the net. Evans’ eighth goal in the month of September. With 90 seconds of stoppage time left Bury were 3-1 up and cruising. A defensive mix up allowed Aaron Simpson to claim what appeared to be a consolation. Gainsborough never gave up and Bury could not keep the ball out of their box. When a free kick was cleared only as far as Ronnie Kokkinos the Gainsborough debutant slammed a shot into the bottom corner to equalise and force the penalty shootout. As in the match itself Bury had the penalty shootout well in hand but couldn’t finish the tie off. Owen Robinson, Anthony Dudley, Bailey Sloane and George Glendon had all put their efforts away while three of the Gainsborough players had scored theirs, Theo Williams had seen his penalty saved by Allen. It fell to Kai Evans to score the last kick and win the day but Robson saved the centrally placed attempt. Melhado scored his penalty to extend sudden death into a second round. Mitch Allen saved his second penalty, this time against the scorer of the third goal Kokkinos, allowing Connor Pye with a smoothly taken spot kick to at last put the result to bed 6-5 on penalties. The 25-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Gigg Lane, having played in the EFL and National League during a career which began with Rochdale. Adshead made his first-team debut for Dale as a teenager, going on to make 25 appearances before earning a move to Norwich City in 2019 for £750,000. Speaking on his latest addition, Jonno said: “Dan has been training with us for the last few weeks. He has got a brilliant pedigree in the game and has played at a good level. Today presents a great opportunity for us to have a really good look at him in a competitive fixture with the hope of securing him on something longer term.” Daniel joins the club on non-contract terms and is available for selection for this afternoon’s FA Trophy tie against Gainsborough Trinity.
