    1. Andy Briggs Departs

We can confirm the departure of striker Andy Briggs, who has signed for West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Following a seven-day approach by West, Andy informed the management of his wish to leave the football club.

The 26-year-old joined the Shakers in July 2023 from Steeton, and made 33 appearances for the club last season, scoring 25 goals.

He made a further 12 this season and has also had a spell with Widnes on dual-registration.

We’d like to wish Andy all the best for the future.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Shaker Andy Rowland, aged 69.
Andy started out at Derby County his hometown club, before moving to Gigg Lane in 1974.
Rowland (above) leaps after scoring one of his 59 goals for the Shakers   He made 174 appearances for the club during this time at the club.

In September 1978, he headed south to play for Swindon Town where he played for eight seasons.

Rowland scored on his return to Gigg Lane as Swindon won 1-0 in March 1979.

Everyone at Bury Football Club would like to pass on condolences to Andy’s family & friends.

    3. Anne Bent: 1960-2024

Anne pictured litter-picking at Mossley in April-2023 Bury Football Club is saddened to learn last night of the passing of long-term fan, volunteer and former board member Anne Bent, at the age 64, following a long illness.

Anne started following the Shakers in 1971, and amongst many activities will be mostly known to many as a frequent litter picker on matchdays.

As well as following the club up and down the country from around 1971, she was a prominent ‘bucket shaker’ in the ‘Save Our Shakers’ campaign when the club ran into difficulties through the late-90s and early-2000s. From Gigg Lane to Old Trafford, she stood outside as punters entered the stadium pleading for that spare bit of change that may help save the club.

Following the club’s expulsion from the EFL in 2019, Anne was a pivitol part of the re-emergence of football in the town as part of the initial group that led to the start of Bury Football Club (2019) Ltd.

Assisting at fundraising events, helping anyone who would ask for it, always with a determination to try and put things right for both herself and fellow supporters. In Anne’s book, it was key to do things the right way and is was with that keeness she put herself up for election of the inaugural Shakers Community board in 2020. She was duly elected as the board’s sole female representative, until 2023 when she stepped down prior to the creation of the Football Supporters Society of Bury (FSSB).

Leading from the front and galvanising those in despair in the early months following expulsion in 2019, Anne was regularly seen either at the turnstile or walking around the stadium with a rubbish bag and litter picker during the game and after. Always doing so with a smile and always with a quip about the game that had taken place that day – good or bad!

Her selflessness and commitment earned a special place in the hearts of fellow fans, volunteers, players, and staff.

She was not just a volunteer but a pillar of the Bury FC family, known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. The legacy of Anne will live on in the hearts of those she touched and in the stands of Gigg Lane, where her spirit will forever be a part of Bury FC.

Our thoughts are with her husband Dave, daughter Louise & grandson Luke at this very sad time.

Current FSSB Director, John Woodhead, who worked with Anne from 2019 had the following to say about Anne: “Anne was an extremely hardworking and supportive member of the inaugural Shakers Community Benefit Society board and became a very loyal friend. Her selflessness, commitment and dedication was apparent for all to see and she will be sorely missed. She leaves a legacy that will ensure she will always be remembered.”

Rest in peace, Anne. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

    4. Another Successful Day on the Golf Course

Our 2024 Bury Football Club Golf Day took place last Friday, and another successful event was laid on with the golfing experts (& some novices!) taking to the course for a day of competition and fun.
Fore! The team including the ex-Bury legends tee-off on the Bury Football Club Golf Day 2024   The event raised over £2,500 for the club on a sunny day at Pike Fold Golf Club. The course was in superb condition, matching the tremendous autumnal weather and had guests from 360 Vehicle Management Ltd taking the main prize, with a Stableford score of 99 after 18-holes.

We were delighted to welcome ex-Shakers Dean West, David Lee and Mark Patterson (shown right, l-r) on the event. In addition to the club funds raised, a kindly donated prize from Ageas for a box at the Royal Albert Hall to watch Cirque du Soleil raised a magnificent £1,000 which was donated to the Len Johnrose Trust.
The club wishes to place on record its thanks to the organising commitee, led by Mike Bailey, who worked so hard to put this event on. We also wish to thank all of our generous sponsors and raffle prize donors who contributed to the success of the day.

We can’t wait to invite everyone back in 2025. If you would like to join us next year, please get in contact by emailing our commercial department, on commercial@buryfc.co.uk.

    6. Appeal Hearing Result

Our appeal on the sanctions for charges relating to offensive supporter behaviour in September last year, has been dismissed.

We will continue to work with the Manchester FA on tackling the serious issues that have been highlighted throughout the case. We, as a club, strive for a game which is free from discrimination and accessible and welcoming for all.

There are number of operational challenges we are now working through, including the refund of tickets. Please bear with us as we finalise these, and further details will be provided in due course. In the meantime, if you have any ticketing queries the club can be contacted via email by clicking below:

    17. Away Shirt Design Vote

Last month our members voted yellow and navy as the colours for next season’s away kit.

We now want you to choose the design.

Our current policy is to rotate kits every two years, to reward supporters for buying replica kits and keep them up-to-date for longer. As we started the season with two new kits, home and away, we need to break this rule just once so that home and away kits are changed in alternate years. The current away kit will be kept as a third kit.

The vote will allow you to make your selection in order of preference which improves the accuracy of the results.

Vote emails will go out to all members over the next few days. If you aren’t a member please sign up on this site asap to get involved.

Sign up and get your vote here on the FSSB website

    25. Behind Closed Doors Ticket Update

We have set in motion the process to refund single tickets bought for the games played behind closed doors, as we have an existing process via our ticketing company for this. Season tickets do not have an equivalent process.

Unfortunately, on a practical level it is impossible for us to offer a straight forward refund for season ticket holders. It would require us to gather and hold everyone’s bank details and take many months to process, as we do not hold bank or card details for supporters.

We don’t have the resources to pay refunds promptly, and it poses a security risk if we hold bank details for a significant period of time. This is another reason why we would have preferred a fine, rather than a stadium closure.

For this reason our preferred options are:
A large number of supporters have told us they want us to keep the money. We are obviously grateful for this and hope the ability to live stream both games behind closed doors offered some value in return. We have also been asked about donations to compensate for loss of revenue. We would prefer supporters to waive form of credit than donate money at this stage. There is a possibility we may need to navigate our way through the play-offs. This would give us at least one additional home game and maybe other tickets which we could add into the season ticket in lieu of the games missed. If the above options are not taken, we will offer a ‘gift card’ which supporters can use to offset the cost of next season ticket or against any other single tickets including friendlies and cup games. This also allows us to spread the financial burden over a number of months, and we are able to administer it, as it offers credit and doesn’t require a bank transfer.   We appreciate some supporters may prefer a straight forward refund but on a practical level we cannot manage this process en masse. Clearly the options above require an assessment of the situation at the end of the season, so are not immediate.

We have a member vote coming soon on the away kit design for next season and will include an advisory vote on this matter to allow members to approve or reject the broad policy stated above.

Thank you for your continued support.

      Neil Sears
      General Manager & CEO
