    1. Djavan Pedro Signs Permanently

We are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of Djavan Pedro from Buxton FC for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA approval.

DJ joined the Shakers on loan last month, making his debut in the away fixture at Colne.

He has scored seven goals in his opening nine games. Including in three out of his opening four home games at Gigg Lane.
Manager, Dave McNabb commented: “As soon as a permanent move became a possibility it was a no brainer. DJ has settled into the squad really well since joining on loan.

“He’s a player we spoke to in the summer and have tracked for a number of years.

“DJ can play in a number of positions and gives us even more quality at the top end of the pitch.
“He’s already become a fans favourite and I’m sure he will continue to get the fans off their seats with his work rate and ability. Welcome to Bury, DJ.”

    3. Double winners following NWCFL awards dinner

We are delighted to announce we picked up two awards at the North West Counties awards dinner in Blackpool on Saturday night.

Our matchday programme, The Shakers, won the Premier Division Programme of the Year award. A big thank you to programme editor, Chris Saville, and the team who contribute to pieces each week to make it best in the division last season. Our thanks also extends to our programme producer FootiePrint for meeting the often late deadlines, flexibility in dealing with frequent game re-arrangements and getting the high-quality printed copies to Gigg Lane for every game.

The club also picked up the quarterly Respect Award for February, March & April 2024. The award is based on marks given by member clubs to each other for things like the friendly welcome received at the ground, good hospitality, and the way dressing rooms are left at away fixtures as examples.

We are glad to have left a good impression on the clubs visited in this last quarter and thank them for their kind comments.

We would like to thank the players and all those behind the scenes for their work which went towards securing this award at the end of last season.

    5. Efe Ambrose Departs

The club is sad to report that Saturday’s game will be Efe Ambrose’s last for the club.

Arriving on a wave of publicity, we were delighted to welcome Efe to Gigg Lane over the summer, he became an instant hit with the fans and the wider footballing community to see him continuing in the game.

The former Celtic player, 35, who had gained experience in the Champions League and secured 4-league titles north of the border as well as international recognition with Nigeria securing the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, left Scottish League One side Queen of the South at the end of last season.

He featured in five out of seven pre-season friendlies and has so far started four games in the competitive campaign, scoring in our 7-1 win at Abbey Hey last week, supplying all those in attendance with his customary back-flip goal celebration.

Continuing to reside in Scotland, Ambrose was regularly travelling to the north-west for both training and matches. Despite a willingness to do this and play in front of the Gigg Lane crowd, this has caught up with earlier training times and the rigours of negotiating late motorway closures effecting the Ambrose family to a point whereby it has become no longer be sustainable.

After some open conversations with manager Dave McNabb over the past two weeks to explain this decision, Efe agreed to stay on to assist the club during a busy fixture period.

Manager, Dave McNabb reacted to the news: “I’m absolutely gutted about the situation with Efe. He has been brilliant for the team since he signed and even better off the pitch with me, the staff and the other players. He’s a true gentleman and one of the kindest and most down to earth men I have ever met.

“His love for the game is infectious. During a training session a couple of weeks ago, we ran a session where we had three rolling teams of seven. Efe quickly realised that two teams where a man short which often meant some changeover of bibs as the teams rolled on and off. Efe being Efe, wearing a blue bib, quickly grabbed a red bib and a green bib and put them in his pocket so that whenever his team rolled off, he could quickly put on one of the other colours and carry on playing. Not only did this clearly show how much he loves playing the beautiful game but also show his experience and intelligence.

“Unfortunately, despite his desire for the game and how much he has loved his time with Bury a few of the challenges we were aware of when he signed have actually shown to be a bit bigger than anticipated due to some unforeseen elements.

“I can’t thank Efe enough for everything he has done for me and the club in his short spell here and wish him and his family nothing but the best for the future.”

The game against Maghull in the FA Vase will be Efe’s last so we urge all supporters to give him a great send off at Gigg Lane on Saturday afternoon.

    6. Emily Wilcock

Bury Football Club is extremely saddened to share the passing of Emily Wilcock, aged 27.

Emily joined to play within the recreational setup two and a half years ago and was an very proud and committed member of the setup, barely missing a training session, taking part in extra summer sessions and attending social events with the squad.

A member of the ‘Greens’, one of a number of our teams competing in the local recreational leagues, who won League 2 of the Greater Manchester Women’s Flexi League in 2022-23 and was part of the club trip to Barcelona in 2022.

She grabbed her first goal of the season in the last game of last season, and was selected as Manager’s Player of the Season in 2021-22.

Everyone who knew Emily will know she was such a lovely person with a great personality and always had a big smile on her face. She will be solely missed for all these reasons.

Emily’s passing will be marked at both our Women’s game this evening and at Gigg Lane on Saturday afternoon.

As a club, we wish to pass on our thoughts and condolences to Emily’s family, boyfriend, friends and all of her club teammates as they come to terms with this extremely sad news.

      Rest in peace, Emily.

However, it is essential that we celebrate the successes of all of our teams within the Bury Football Club family as we complete our first season back at Gigg Lane.

The gates open at 1 pm, with the awards being given out from 2 pm.

This event will be a lower key event than originally planned owing to ongoing works at Gigg Lane and to it being holiday season for the players. There should, however, be representation from the men’s first team, women’s first team, men’s U23s and our junior team (U12s).

Entry is through the Manchester Road End turnstiles by ticket only.

    22. Feedback on Saturday’s Big Screen Event

CEO Neil Sears has made the following response following Saturday’s play-off final Big Screen event at Gigg Lane:

We have now had a couple of days digest the result of Saturday, and we have seen the many comments posted around the live stream broadcast on the Big Screen Gigg Lane on Saturday.

I think its important that we as a club provide some background and add some context around getting the event on.

After our victory in Tuesday’s semi-final, it soon became apparent that many fans would be unable to get a ticket for the game on Saturday.  We didn’t want supporters to miss out and after seeing many suggestions calling for the club to do something, we decided to look into hiring a big screen to show the event at Gigg Lane. This was not easy with only 48 hours notice and was organised at the same time as arranging a ballot for tickets.

In order to execute this, we had a number of things to consider: Our security for any such event, catering options, liaising with the police and also getting the opposition’s permission to stream.

We also needed to consider the size of the screen and also how many fans could realistically attend and see such a screen.  As many of you will know, we don’t normally stream away matches, but due to the enormity of the game we decided to try.

We hired the biggest screen that we could source within the timescales we were working within. Research indicated that a strong 4G data signal was available in the area of Ericstan Park, but we made a calculated gamble that it was worth the risk.  If we hadn’t had done this, supporters would rightly have asked why we had not tried to do something. However, on arrival at the ground, the signal whilst strong for downloading, was relatively poor for uploading data. This aspect is necessary for broadcasting a live stream, and on this occasion the systems did not have the capability to operate at the level the team requierd.

We were aware that the steam kept buffering as a result, and this must have been very frustrating. Whilst the team attempted reducing the quality of the picture to keep the stream live and consistent, this was only so successful and resulted in large parts of the game being unwatchable. The team, both at the game in Wythenshawe and back at Gigg Lane, did all they could in trying circumstances.

As a club when we put this event on, we were not doing it to make money. This event was delivered to be ‘cost neutral’ to ensure that the supporters could watch the game, so we are as disappointed as you when we ran into problems.  However, by all account the atmosphere was fantastic and the food and drink seemed to go down well, we also ensured that the players came back to thank you for the support you gave them for the season.
We thank you for supporting and interacting with this event, and drawing from this experience will enable us to hold more events like this in future. We also thank those dedicated volunteers who again gave up their time to help make the event run smoothly, in some cases foregoing an actual ticket for the game to make this happen.

We literally would not be able to get these events on for supporters without this assistance – a big thank you!

We have postponed the next CEO Q&A session until ahead of the new season in July, as there is a lot to get through in the next few weeks to prepare for this. 24. FGRS Community Hub Fundraiser

In response to the devastating gas explosion on Nelson Street close to Gigg Lane, FGRS Community Hub is stepping up to bring the community together in support of those impacted.

A testament to the resilience and solidarity within our community, a fundraiser has been organised with the goal of offering relief and support to the victims of this unfortunate incident.

The main event is scheduled for Sunday 14th April at the Fishpool Liberal Club, an occasion that not only aims to raise funds but also to strengthen community bonds during this difficult time. This gathering is an opportunity for community members to show their support, offer donations, and stand in solidarity with those facing the aftermath of the explosion.

The explosion on Nelson St. has left many of our neighbors in dire need of assistance, with damages that go beyond physical property to the very heart of our community. In these trying times, it’s the collective support and compassion of the community that can make the most significant difference in the lives of those impacted.

Understanding the power of collective effort, the FGRS Community Hub has also established a Just Giving page to facilitate donations from those who are unable to attend the event in person but still wish to contribute to the cause – aiming for £3,500.

This online fundraising platform allows for easy and secure donations, ensuring that every penny goes directly to aiding the affected residents of Nelson St.

Donate here to support the victims of the Nelson St. gas explosion.

For more information on the event and how you can help, please visit the FGRS Community Hub’s official channels – HERE. Your support can make a significant difference in providing the much-needed relief and support for our neighbors during this challenging time.
