Bury vs Padiham – Broadhurst Park
Our game with Padiham has now been arranged for this coming Tuesday evening, 16th April with a 7.45pm kick-off. This time with a change of venue.
Our friends at FC United of Manchester have offered their Broadhurst Park ground for the night, with the pitch at Gigg Lane currently unplayable following today’s postponement.
With all fixtures to be completed by Saturday 20th April, and with risk of a further weather related postponement on Tuesday, the club sourced alternative arrangements over the weekend and thank FC United for their generosity and speed to turn this around in such a short timeframe.
The ground capacity at Broadhurst Park is 4,400 so can accommodate a large midweek crowd.
We realise this may have a significant impact on some supporters. Further details will be provided as soon as possible regarding admission, travel details and watching the game on a stream.
All season tickets, and previously bought matchday tickets will be valid as usual. There is no need to buy new tickets.
More details will follow in the coming days, and we thank supporters for their patience while these are put in place and able to be communicated.

Bury: Shaking up the nerves of FA Cup competitors as they storm the competition
Bury FC have made a shaking appearance in England’s oldest footballing competition, with the First Round Proper just one successful game away, writes Lily-Mae Cooper.
A strong start for the Shakers entering in the Extra Preliminary Round on the 3rd of August with a 4-2 win against a predicted cohesive, strong Congleton Town. Star player for Bury, Alex Cherera showed dominance throughout the match as the winger scored three of the four goals, securing their place in the Preliminary Round. An unexpected tap off the head, up to the crossbar, and over the goal line for Ruben Jerome secured their last goal in the 73rd minute following a Bury corner kick. The busy second half produced three goals for Bury and one for Congleton, both sprang into action as the home team became under threat by the lead their opposition claimed before the break.
Avro hosted Bury in the Preliminary Round on the 17th of August with yet another superior play from the Shakers at The Vestacare Stadium. Both teams fought against tough defence lines from the onset with possession flickering from one to the other. Bury’s resistance held up, successfully shutting down the early chances Avro created to bring it home. Full time came with 4 extra minutes and a final score of 2-1 with appreciation to goal scorers Alex Cherera, and Lewis Alessandra. Another controlled win against higher opposition.
Drawn up against another team from a league above in the NPL East Division, Garforth Town, in the First Round Qualifier expectations were of a hard-to-top, strong-form competitor. Both Bury and Garforth met unbeaten. This set up for a harsh and grovelling first half, with little progression from either team. Once again Cherera broke the deadlock and scored in the 45th minute. He came back a second time to assist Alessandra in making his first touch and simultaneously goal of the match. Bury walk out victorious and still undefeated.
1,246 attendees made it to Croft Park to watch the undeniable force of Bury lead the Second Qualifying Round to a 3-0 win against Blyth Spartans. All goals in the second half, Cherea, Gomes, and Connor Pye took the Shakers to yet another undefeated victory. Visiting fans had a full view to celebrate the successes in the away end. Excitement bubbles at the thought of attaining a First-Round Proper game, two wins away from its possibility.
Derby day was upon us. Ground reached compacity. Crowds of 2,800 filled the Neuven Stadium.
Assistant manager, Tim Lees, reminisced on the clubs’ journey so far and said: “Every non-league player dreams of making it to the first round of the FA Cup.”
“We have managed to continually knock out teams leagues above us with some excellent collective performances along the way”.
The Third Qualifying Round witnessed the clash with neighbours Radcliffe. An afternoon of drama and unrest for Bury as the game kicked off out of their favour. Within the 7th minute, the three-division gap between the two materialised with an opposition goal. The dissatisfying result of an ignored offside request from the Shakers. It appeared this is all the underdogs needed to create speculation in their ability. A team of composure and pressurised attack unearthed itself at Neuven as the visitors began to push for opportunities. Plays from Alessandra and Gomes shake up the Boro nerves as they fight for an equaliser. It doesn’t come. The halftime break couldn’t end soon enough as Bury came crashing back into play. Sam Coughlan put in a shift in a lethal attack off a free kick sending it low across the goal line. In the 82nd minute, Bury pulled away from their host as Ruben Jerome made a solo break down the left channel, cleared the defensive line and bolted the ball past the fingertips of Radcliffe’s Hewelt. Just 5 tantalising minutes later Boro comes back burning as Josh Wardle receives a crossed free kick which tips past Mitchell Allen. A heart-stopping 90th minute rewarded the Shakers with a penalty heading into extra time. The reliable force of Bryan Ly slipped the ball past Hewelt sending him veering off in the opposite direction. It’s all over.
Lees noted, “The jump in leagues brings a higher level in all areas; tactical, technical, and physical challenges and it has been a memorable run with Radcliffe being the pinnacle”.
Bury claim this 3-2 derby success as their 18th run undefeated this season.
The Fourth Qualifying Round will take our winners away to Harborough Town on Saturday the 12th October as they continue their impressive run through the FA Cup. Tim Lees insists on the dedication of his team.
He said: “This weekend’s game brings another team two leagues above but I know I speak on behalf of all fans – we will do everything to be in that draw with an opportunity to play league one or two teams.”

Captain – Tom Moore
Tom Moore has been confirmed as the new club captain of Bury Football Club.
Manager Dave McNabb hosted a vote amongst the players and staff, to choose the new captain with Tom selected to lead the team in this new era.
Moore joined from Bootle only a matter of weeks ago, but has impressed as a towering presence in defence, as well as showing skills with the ball at his feet. Being able to offer either cross-field diagonals or quick balls into our forwards with precision has formed an important part of the new manager’s tactical plans.
Charlie Doyle will be vice-captain with Oliver Jepson as third choice. Senior players, Andy Scarisbrick and Chris Rowney will make up the leadership group of five.

Carl Dickinson leaves Bury
Bury FC can confirm the departure of defender Carl Dickinson with immediate effect.
The 36-year-old has decided to leave the club due to travelling a long distance to training & matches.
We want to place on record our thanks to Carl for his short spell at the club, a great experienced figure to have around the team and we wish him all the best for the future.

Casey Lynchey named as Community Development Officer
Bury Football Club is delighted to announce that from Monday 29th July, Casey Lynchey will take up the post of full time Community Development Officer. This role is a key element of the Club’s commitment to deliver its obligations to our town and the wider borough.
“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to take up this full time position and it is with immense pride that I will represent the club in this vital role, ensuring that we are at the centre of the community. There is so much opportunity to use the power of football and our badge to develop the community and a sense of pride in our borough,” remarked Casey.
Following a recruitment process completed at the end of May, five applicants were shortlisted for interview with Casey being a stand out candidate. An interview panel made up of Neil Sears (CEO of Bury FC), Darren Bernstein (Director of Football Supporters Society of Bury FC) and Tracey Flynn (Service Manager for Business & Growth, Bury Council) was convened to ensure that the Club’s key community partner was involved in the decision making progress.
Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture, the economy and skills said: “Casey has already done tremendous work in expanding the club into the community – what she’s done for women’s football in Bury is inspirational – and this will be boosted hugely with her new appointment. We all want more people to take up sport, whether for fun or competition, and make full use of the new facilities and 3G pitch being created at Gigg Lane.”
Casey will be known to many around the club, as in a voluntary capacity she has overseen the rebirth and growth of the Women’s section in the club, where there are now around 250 registered players and more recently has been integral to the development of Bury FC’s new youth teams. Furthermore, Casey has developed a men’s recreational programme and looked after numerous schools and mascots on a matchday down at Gigg Lane.
To add to her impressive track record of developing football in the town, she has 20 years’ experience in the education sector, most recently as a teacher and leader and she is completing a Masters degree in Elite Business Leadership. In addition she was the winner of BAME Project ‘Bury Women in Fitness’ Award – 2024, and the Manchester FA’s ‘Spirit of Grassroots Football’ Award – 2022.
Amongst Casey’s responsibility will be to liaise with a range of community organisations, attract funding for community projects, ensure that the usage of the 3G pitch is maximised and continue development of the women’s and youth side of the club.

Catering Reviewed at Gigg Lane
At Bury Football Club, we are committed to continually improving the matchday experience for our fans, and that includes our catering services. We have received your feedback over the past season, both in the stands and in the hospitality suites, and will be making changes to the offer available to supporters for the 2024/25 season.
This change is part of a wider review of our operational activities over the summer. Our goal is to ensure that we provide the best possible service and quality to our fans. We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Quirky Catering for their time at Gigg Lane this season. They joined last summer at short notice and have been fantastic to work with.
The selection process is well underway, and we are excited about the potential candidates we have met so far. We understand that catering is a crucial part of the matchday experience, and we are dedicated to making sure that our fans enjoy the best food and drink available. The new catering partner will bring fresh ideas and menus, ensuring that every visit to Gigg Lane is memorable not just for the football but for the entire experience.
An official announcement will be made in the next few weeks, once we have finalised our decision. We thank all those who have provided feedback and appreciate your patience during this transition period. We are confident that the new arrangements will significantly enhance your matchday experience.

Charlie Doyle
The Football Association recently made the club aware of historical public communications by current Bury FC player Charlie Doyle in 2019, which contravened rules E3 and E3.2 as set out within the FA for All: Grassroots Disciplinary Guide.
The comments made were on the social media platform Twitter, and these comments triggered a breach of the rule regarding ‘improper conduct aggravated by a person’s sexual orientation or disability’.
The charge was raised directly with the player and Charlie was asked to respond to the charge in late 2023. The club have assisted Charlie throughout the process.
The penalty for this charge is listed as a ‘6-12 game suspension’. The FA include the below list of mitigating factors under this charge when considering applying action:

Following review of the information, Charlie responded to the charge by pleading guilty last month, and his hearing was held on Wednesday evening.
On the basis the player pleaded guilty and considering the presented mitigating factors, the FA have handed Charlie Doyle a six-match suspension with three of these suspended for 12 months.
Providing the player is not charged or found proven of a similar offence within a 12-month period, the additional suspension period will not apply.

These sanctions are applied with immediate effect and Charlie will be unavailable for the next three Bury games, starting with our trip to the Isle of Man this weekend.

Christmas Raffle & Auction in aid of Bury Hospice & NW Air Ambulance
On Boxing Day, the club is hosting a charitable fundraising event, which will benefit Bury Hospice and the North West Air Ambulance this year.
These vital organisations rely heavily on charitable donations, with Bury Hospice requiring approximately £6.5 million annually to operate, and the Air Ambulance needing around £18 million.
This fundraiser is not only backed by our dedicated volunteers, but also by the club’s management and players. We will be hosting an online auction featuring framed photographs signed by various players past and present, along with a raffle and bucket collection around the ground.
We would love for you to get involved in any of these activities by either making a prize donation for the Auction, raffle or making a cash donation to support these two outstanding local organisations.
As it’s the season to be giving, a small donation can go a long way and would be extremely welcome from both Bury Hospice and North West Air Ambulance.
Raffle tickets will begin to be sold on Saturday 7th December, ahead of our home game against Colne, with the prize draw taking place on Boxing Day.

Clamp down on Anti-Social Behaviour
Despite another great result on the road this weekend, it was not without problems. Particularly those of anti-social behaviour which the club take very seriously and which all of us need to tackle to make the environment on matchdays welcoming for all.
Any observations of disorder of any kind are reported to the league and to the County FA. Such reports will inevitably bring charges against the club for which there is a risk of large financial penalties. Continued indiscretions also risk the club being penalised, the most severe being the playing of games behind closed doors. This would be catastrophic for the club.
Whilst many fans see this as just a game of football and a release from the day-to-day stresses of life, the football authorities and the club will not tolerate such behaviour.
We have put in place a disciplinary procedure and clear sanctions for any unacceptable behaviour. These are displayed at the turnstiles, alongside the ground regulations. The club will not fail to take action against individuals where necessary.
All fans should remember that this is our club and we are judged on the behaviour of even the smallest minority of supporters.
Should we wish to continue to grow and at some stage return professional football to the town, we can only do so by removing such behaviour from our matches. Please therefore do not turn a blind eye and bring any reports of disorder to the club’s attention.
The best way to do this is by reporting any incidents on the day, at the game, to the stewards in attendance around the ground who can deal with any issues in line with ground regulations.
If this is not possible, supporters are requested to contact the club direct via email by clicking below and enclosing any supporting information to assist the club in dealing with the matter.

Club celebrate latest big winner via Treasureline!
As we fly through the off season, our colleagues at NYCDA have been out and about once more to visit recent Treasureline supporting winners. These are always nice events to showcase what we do, as well as finding out more about them and their connection to Bury FC and the town in general. Next up we made the short trip up Bolton Road to visit Margaret Dudley to help her celebrate her recent win.
Whilst not being the biggest Bury FC fan herself, it was nice to hear about Margaret’s pleasure in supporting her local club and its work in the local community. Having lived close to Gigg Lane many years ago, the connection started with her son Gary selling progammes at matches in his younger days. That familiar connection continues to this day with Margaret’s grandson and granddaughter joining the trips to watch the club more recently.
Indeed, it was interesting to hear how the support of the club’s various lottery related offers, through both Margaret and her husband Brian, goes back more than 25 years. Sadly, Brian passed away last year, however Margaret has continued on her support, which has led to her recent £1000 win on the NYCDA Weekly Draw. It was nice to hear that she plans to put her well deserved winnings to good use and enjoy some sunshine on holiday later in the year.

We were thankful to our superb volunteer team of sellers prior to Christmas, for setting up the pop-up shop in the old Main Stand ticket office. These Tuesday and Thursday afternoon opening times allowed Shakers supporters the chance to grab their last minute stocking-fillers!
After the Christmas rush, the Club Shop opening times have been confirmed for the next few weeks:

Club Statement
Following a North West Counties Football League Management Committee meeting held on 6th September 2023, we have been notified of the League’s intention to fine the club £100 and deduct three points for fielding a player contracted to another club.
The club disputes this and is in the process of appealing to the Football Association. No sanctions will take effect until the appeal has been heard.
We know supporters will be severely disappointed to learn that we might lose hard earned points, as is Andy Welsh and his team. We would, however, ask for your patience as we go through the appeals process and will not be sharing any further information at this stage so as not to compromise that appeal.
In addition to the appeal, the club has now also made some process changes to mitigate against this risk in future. The volunteer involved in the transfer is no longer working with the club, and there is no evidence he knew of a problem. Neither the player nor any of the management team were aware of any concerns, and we would not play anyone where there was any known problem. There is nothing to be gained by blaming individuals given the specifics of this case.
The points deduction does not alter any of the results achieved to date. They all stand. There are 105 points up for grabs in our league campaign now. The focus is on continuing with our preparations and winning as many of those points as possible until the end of the season.

Club Statement
Bury Football Club has been informed by Manchester FA that an independent committee has decided that due to the offensive comments made by two supporters during our game against West Didsbury and Chorlton in September, we should be forced to play our next two home games behind closed doors.
We reported the incident at the time, and provided video and other evidence to the police to assist their enquiries at some considerable cost to the club. We have not disputed the claims made. The individuals have not yet had their case heard by the law enforcement authorities and have been prevented from entering the stadium indefinitely whilst we await the outcome.
Our grounds for appeal are limited. We have accepted the facts of the incident, and do not believe that we acted in a way which was anything other than responsible and measured. We accept that the two individuals involved could have been removed from the stadium immediately but the stewards took a view at the time to stop any further problems and review the situation afterwards. We paid additional money to a CCTV specialist to review footage and provided this to the police. Our stewarding costs are £3-4,000 per game, it is not something we take lightly.
The basis of our appeal is that the punishment is excessive. We have seen multiple incidents over recent years of groups of supporters collectively issuing racist, misogynistic and homophobic abuse, as well as tragedy chanting. These have gone unpunished or have been dealt with by fines. We acted on the day. We are unable to completely control the words of two people in a crowd of 3,838 on that particular occasion.
We accept there should be a punishment, but excluding every well-behaved football supporter from a stadium which has already excluded those who perpetrated the offences, does nothing to promote inclusion.
The loss of revenue is extremely damaging and our belief is that it would be far better to use that revenue to fund a campaign intended to positively promote diversity and inclusion. Football needs to change, this would help make that change.
A stadium closure throws this opportunity away and is likely to ignite a more divisive and polarised debate on these important issues.
We have taken huge strides to actively promote diversity and inclusion since forming the club and have raised money and awareness throughout the borough through the hard work of our volunteers, many of whom will be deeply dismayed by this judgement as it punishes them despite their efforts.
For this reason we intend to appeal. It is not because we are in any way dismissive of the issues involved. The appeal process will take a number of weeks and we will continue to play in front of supporters during this period, and we will keep supporters updated as to any progress made as it happens.
We are also concerned that this specific judgment has been published publicly whilst matters are still being considered by the relevant law enforcement authorities.

Club Statement – Discriminatory Language
We have received various reports over the last few weeks of discriminatory language used at our Men’s first-team matches.
Our message is simple. Discriminatory language has no place in our club.
Our Safeguarding & Welfare Officer, Tania Jackson said: “Football is for everyone. Discriminatory language has no place in our club. If you hear it please report it.
“Let’s create a respectful, inclusive environment where everybody feels welcome.”

Club Statement – FENIX Trophy Withdrawal
This week we informed the FENIX Trophy organisers of our intentions to withdraw from the competition.
Following discussions amongst the board & management team, it was felt that our recent cup successes coupled with the Finnish weather, it would be difficult to arrange a date before the first round concludes in December.
We understand that this might come as a disappointment to supporters, but we have taken this decision in the best interest of the football club.
