Latest News and Articles

We have to bounce back from Tuesday night’s disappointing draw at Irlam, and especially because a win would take us to the top of the table.

That’s why we need our fans to come out in numbers to get Gigg Lane bouncing!

We are currently third – two points behind Chadderton on top and one behind Ramsbottom United in second. Neither has a league game this weekend, so…Up the Shakers – to the top!!!

The ups and downs of recent results have been frustrating for everyone, but we just have to get on with it. We’re having a great season, and everyone is signed up to the promotion challenge.

We’re in a great position, lying third below Chadderton on 59 points from 28 matches and second-placed Ramsbottom on 57 from 26. So our 56 from 26 matches puts a massive premium on a couple of games over the Christmas period.

The results against Chadderton at Avro next Friday and Ramsbottom at home on Boxing Day might just be season-defining. Victory against Abbey Hey would be a great start to this sequence. So…Up the Shakers!!!
View Tuesday’s post match media including interviews with Chris Watts & Connor Pye below.
      In Opposition – Abbey Hey
After quite a good start their first season back in the Premier Division, Abbey Hey are moving in quite the wrong direction.

Since we beat them 7-1 in August, they have slumped from 10th in the table to 14th.

They have won only one game in their last six, and have lost all the other five.

The Gorton club returned to the Premier Division by winning last season’s play-offs in Division One South.

We face yet another tough test with this visit to Irlam, but go into the game buoyed up by a stunning 4-0 performance against Colne.

It was a day on which our skill was backed up by grit and determination. Everyone – not least manager Dave McNabb – was embarrassed by the abysmal midweek performance against Litherland REMYCA. So we’re back on track for our vital December run of fixtures.

We were without suspended Ben Hockenhull, but were boosted by the last-minute signing of tough-tackling Aaron Chalmers. He not only strengthened the defence but popped the ball into the Colne net in a goalmouth scramble.

Ben is available for the Irlam game and popular striker Djavan Pedro – also on five yellows – will play. But DJ will miss Saturday’s home match against Abbey Hey.

Losing twice in four games shook us all after going 21 without a single defeat. So the convincing victory against Colne restored morale around the club – along with seeing Nicky Adams back in a Bury shirt.

Up the Shakers!!
  In Opposition – Irlam
This is a club with a long and distinguished history. They held us to a 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane back in August and are currently 11th in the league. They finished last season in 13th place.

Irlam will be determined to build on a run of decent results. They have lost only one of their last six games, won two and drawn three – including 1-1 result at home against leaders Ramsbottom United just over a week ago.

Last season we beat them 3-0 at home but lost 1-0 away – a defeat which cost us in our bid for promotion.
  Admission & Tickets
There are NO advance tickets for this game, with pay on the gate facilities will be available with payments taken with either cash or card.

Adults – £7 Concessions – £4 (Over 60 / Under 16) Under 16s – £2 Under 11s – FREE Programmes – £2

Irlam are asking supporters to arrive at the ground as early as possible. This will have a real positive effect on smooth entry into the ground.
