Bury held on to complete a 1-0 win over Warrington Rylands despite goalscorer DJ Pedro being sent off late on. There was one change to the Bury team that won in midweek with Kai Evans starting after a couple of impactful substitute appearances. From the off the home side looked strong. On an early attack George Glendon played in Rustam Stepans, his curled shot hit the post. Kai Evans and DJ Pedro both saw shots saved by Rylands keeper Luke Pilling. The match was still fairly open and the visitors had chances from Harrison Wood and George Waring that Mitch Allen had to do well to save. After James Neild had shot on goal from a Leo Graham corner Pedro fired into the back of the net but the offside flag was already up. At the other end Ben Hardcastle also had a goal chalked off for offside. Bury ought to have taken the lead after earning a penalty, a Stepans cross was handled by a Rylands defender, however Tom Carr’s poor spot kick was too close to Pilling who made the save. The Shakers put their disappointment behind them and pressed on getting the goal their efforts deserved. Pedro heading home in a packed box from a cross from the left by Kai Evans. More goals could have been scored, Stepans again hit the woodwork from another curled effort while James Neild and Bailey Sloane had chances from corners put over. The hosts may have come to regret not taking more of their chances in the first half as after the restart the visitors were much harder to break down. The one goal lead felt increasingly narrow as time passed and Rylands were getting closer each attack. A couple of Harrison Wood crosses just needed a touch while substitutes Jake Burton and Myles La Bastide both had shots go just wide. A second goal would have settled the contest but beyond a Luca Navarro shot and a looping Pedro header, both saved well by Pilling, the Shakers couldn’t finish the match off. Late on and with tempers flaring Bury goalscorer Pedro saw red for his part in an off the ball scuffle. Despite the disadvantage during the long last few minutes Bury saw out the win. After a stunning comeback victory to collect our first three points of the season on Tuesday night, The Shakers hope to carry their fine form into Saturday’s meeting with Warrington Rylands. Anthony Johnson’s side will be hoping to make the most of back-to-back home games against a Rylands side that lost at home to Lancaster City midweek. Despite being early in the season, we sit just one point and two places ahead of Rylands. The midweek win boosted Bury to 6th. In Opposition – Warrington Rylands Founded in 1906, Rylands ground Gorsey Lane entertained local clubs such as Everton. After 112 years as an amateur club, Rylands turned semi-professional in June 2018, winning Division One South of the North West Counties Football League in their debut season. In 2021, the club won the FA Vase at Wembley, beating Binfield 3-2, with Elliott Neevitt bagging a hat-trick, managed at the time by former Bury boss Dave McNabb. An 89th-minute penalty save from Mitch Allen secured the win in a back and forth 3-2 victory for Bury over Curzon Ashton. Coming into their first home match of the season Bury made a slow start and were immediately put under pressure by the visitors. A misplaced pass from Oscar Threlkeld allowed Tony Weston an early chance, but Allen produced a smart save. Curzon continued to press, with Alex Curran going firing narrowly wide. The Shakers’ first opening came through a Rustam Stepans free-kick that was tipped away by Curzon goalkeeper Aiden Dowling. Gradually, Bury began to gain control, enjoying more possession and pushing the visitors back. Stepans and James Melhado caused problems from wide areas, while Leo Graham’s deliveries from set-pieces repeatedly threatened. One Graham corner found Threlkeld, whose header was cleared off the line. The breakthrough arrived when another Graham corner caused confusion in the box and Tom Carr poked home Bury’s first goal of the new season. Despite their improvement, Bury went into the interval behind. On 40 minutes, a poor clearance fell to a Curzon midfielder and the ball was worked to Weston, whose shot found the net despite Allen getting a hand to it. Then, just before half-time, Curran won possession outside the Bury area and fed Weston, who fired in off the near post to make it 2-1. Anthony Johnson turned to his bench in the second half, introducing Mo Touray, Luca Navarro and Kai Evans as Bury searched for a response. The changes paid off within five minutes. Evans delivered an excellent cross from the left and Touray powered home a header to level the scores. Bury suddenly found momentum. Owen Robinson saw a shot deflected wide, while Dowling produced fine saves to deny Stepans and Evans. From the resulting corner of Evans’ chance Graham delivered once more and James Neild’s looping header restored Bury’s lead. Curzon pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages. The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. After a goalless draw at Redcar Athletic on Saturday, Anthony Johnson’s men will be hoping to claim their first win of the season in front of a home crowd. Our opposition started their season in winning ways last time out, beating Alfreton Town 1-0 at home on Saturday Afternoon In Opposition – Curzon Ashton Nicknamed “The Nash”, Curzon Ashton were founded in 1963 following a merger between Curzon Road Methodists FC and Ashton Amateurs FC. With a capacity of 4,000, their home ground (Tameside Stadium) was opened in 2005 by Sir Alex Ferguson, with a friendly also played against a Manchester United XI. The stadium has a nod to world cup triumphs, with statues of tournament champions Geoff Hurst, Jimmy Armfield and Simone Perrotta, all of whom having a link to the area. Curzon have a recent history of FA Cup success, reaching the FA second round proper, a 4-3 thriller that ended in defeat to AFC Wimbledon. Louis White remains in hospital but is doing well and is in good spirits. Initial test results have ruled out a heart attack, although doctors have identified an issue relating to the heart muscle. He will undergo further tests over the coming days to establish exactly what the issue is and the next steps in his recovery. Naturally, football takes a back seat and Louis is expected to be unavailable for selection for a period of time while he recovers. We know many supporters have been asking after him and we’re sure everyone associated with Bury FC will join us in wishing Louis well. We’ll provide further updates when appropriate. Bury Football Club is delighted to announce Infinity 21 as the club’s new streaming provider for the 2026/27 season. The new platform will allow supporters around the world to watch the Shakers live throughout the campaign, with a reliable, easy-to-use service designed specifically for live sport. Supporters will be able to purchase individual match passes for £9.99, while all matches will also be available to watch on demand for 30 days after the final whistle for £4.99. In addition, season ticket holders will be able to watch eligible matches streamed within the UK for the reduced price of just £4.99. Further details on which fixtures can be streamed domestically will be confirmed throughout the season, subject to broadcasting regulations. Infinity 21 also gives supporters the flexibility to catch up if they miss kick-off, with every streamed fixture available to watch back for 30 days. The platform is already used by clubs and competitions across British sport, including football, rugby, speedway and ice hockey, and brings more than 15 years of experience in delivering live sporting events. As with previous seasons, Saturday 3pm league fixtures will only be available to stream live outside the UK, in line with UEFA’s broadcasting regulations, with some exemptions possible, where regulation allows. The Shakers open their Northern Premier League campaign with a trip to the seaside, making the 234 mile round trip to Redcar Athletic. After a title winning campaign, Anthony Johnson’s side come off a preseason which saw wins over Bacup Borough, Chorley, FC Isle of Man, Radcliffe and Wigan Athletic, and defeats to Accrington Stanley and Morecambe. This fixture marks the two sides first ever competitive league meeting. The club was renamed to Redcar Athletic in 2010, and have earned three promotions since 2021. Welcome, Jesurun Uchegbulam! | New Signing Interview | Bury FC

The 25-year old winger arrives at Salford Van Hire Gigg Lane Stadium with a wealth of non-league experience over the last eight years. His career started in the AC Milan Academy at the age of 7 before relocating to England with his family at 15 years old. Spells at Stockport Town and Mossley followed, with Uchegbulam signing his first professional contract when he joined Chesterfield in July 2022. He was part of the Oldham side that achieved promotion back to the EFL in 2025, picking up the assist for James Norwood’s equaliser in extra-time. Most recently, he featured for Chelmsford City – scoring and assisting on his debut in the FA Cup – and spent a short time at Welsh Champions The New Saints before mutually agreeing to leave ahead of joining the Shakers. The first week of the Bury Football Club Summer Holiday Camp has been a huge success, with children enjoying an action-packed programme of sport, games and activities throughout the week. With fantastic attendance and smiles all around, young participants have made new friends, developed their sporting skills and stayed active during the school holidays. From football sessions to fun team challenges and daily prizes, the atmosphere has been outstanding and has provided an enjoyable and inclusive experience for everyone involved. The Summer Holiday Camp is proudly supported by the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programme through Bury Council, helping to provide children with engaging activities and nutritious food during the holidays. The club would also like to thank GENUS Recycling for their generous sponsorship, their support has helped make the camp even better and ensured that local children can benefit from a memorable summer experience.
