    Everyone at Bury Football Club was saddened to hear of the passing of former Shaker Hughen Riley, after battling Leukaemia in recent years.   Hughen was a Lancashire lad, born in Accrington, but he started his professional career with Rochdale, appearing in Dale’s first team for five seasons, amassing 114 league and cup appearances.  He then spent four years with Crewe Alexandra, adding another 131 games before transferring to Gigg Lane for a fee of £4,000 on 1 December 1974 at the age of 25.

    Nine games to go, and the run in has very much started – and started well. We go to South Liverpool’s Jericho Lane ground in a strong position after a run of six wins on the bounce. We turned the tables on West Didsbury and Chorlton, and the 2-1 scoreline didn’t reflect our dominance for most of the game.     Last Saturday we welcomed guests from English National Opera and Walk the Plank into Starkies Bar and onto the terraces at Gigg Lane. Soprano Carrie-Ann Williams kicked a ball around with Ladies first teamers Georgia Payton and Holly Davenport and met club legend Nicky Adams, before serenading fans in the bar with some impromptu pre-match opera.     People from across the local community are invited to the official launch of the Bury Sporting Memories Club, which is taking place at the Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre on Wednesday 26th February between 10:30am – 12pm. Bury Sporting Memories is a weekly session run every Wednesday from 10:30am to 12pm at Gigg Lane, which welcomes older people aged 50+ to reminisce, replay and reconnect through the power of sport.     Representatives of the club met with Ian Harrop on 15 February 2025 to discuss Ian’s ban from the hospitality areas of the stadium. In the interest of moving forward in a positive manner Ian was informed that he is now welcome to return to the hospitality areas of the stadium with immediate effect.
