The festive football continues in Merseyside this Saturday, as we head to The Marine Travel Arena to take on AFC Liverpool.
The boys got the result an expectant Boxing Day crowd were wanting, by overcoming Prestwich Heys on Tuesday. Two goals from captain Tom Moore sent home the majority of the 4,833 inside Gigg Lane happy with three points as a late Christmas present.

The win put some breathing space between us and Heys, who sat in third ahead of the game. Wythenshawe Town beating league-leaders Wythenshawe in the big derby game brought the summit into sight again, but brings Town closer to the top too.
Every game matters, with points at a premium. AFC Liverpool sit in 19th with 32 points, and two wins in the last six. One of those was against Wythenshawe at the Marine Travel Arena, and are therefore not to be taken lightly.

Opponents
AFC Liverpool was formed in 2008 by 1,000 Liverpool FC fans who had become increasingly frustrated at the cost and difficulty in obtaining tickets for Premier League matches. The mooted ‘39th game’, in which Premier League fixtures would be played in different parts of the world, proved to be the final straw as it clearly highlighted that those who ran top flight football were more concerned with money than its fans.
A website was created and, with the response being positive, work began to move to the next stage and create a steering group to make the club a reality. At the beginning of March 2008, AFC Liverpool was officially formed and it was made clear that the club was not in any way a response to the contentious ownership issue at Anfield or as a protest against Liverpool Football Club. It was a response to issues at the top end of football in general.
Originally ground-sharing with Prescot Cables, and accepted into the North West Counties, they won 10 of their opening 11 games, consolidating their position in the league for the first three seasons. AFC Liverpool benefitted from clubs being demoted and expelled from the league in 2011, accepting their position in the Premier Division for the 2011-12 season.
They stayed in the First Division North again until 2021, when the results of the two curtailed COVID seasons were used to re-structure the leagues. AFC Liverpool again benefitted from a strong set of results and resumed in the Premier Division from the 2021-22 season.

Parking Facilities: There is a small car park at the Marine Travel Arena but this is unavailable to the public on match days. Parking is available on the streets around the ground, some of which is Pay and Display.
Ground Facilities: The Marine Travel Arena is one of the best maintained grounds in the NWCFL. It boasts a tea bar that serves hot pies and burgers as well as the usual range of hot drinks. The bar in the Graham Lounge is also open on matchdays and both Skysports and BT Sport are available. There is a large covered stand behind the goal, covered standing along one side of the ground and open standing behind the other goal. There are clean and modern men’s and ladies toilets underneath the stand.

Match Info: AFC Liverpool (A), Sat 9th Nov, 1pm KO
Hopes were high for a match against St Helens that could have sent the Shakers like a rocket into second position in the league. But, despite the impressive fireworks display in the air around Gigg Lane and plenty of cracking chances for both sides going begging, the Bonfire Night game ended with honours even.
Nevertheless, the 1-1 scoreline in a tough game against resolute opponents stretches our unbeaten record to 18 and moves us up into third place. Highlights and post match media is available below.
Next up: AFC Liverpool. We’re still the ‘Mighty Shakers’ and on the back of three away wins on the trot, so we head for Merseyside with momentum on the road. We hope there are still many Shakers fans still able to reach Crosby for the now earlier kick-off at 1pm this Saturday.
We will be hoping to follow up a 2-0 victory against AFC Liverpool at home in August to complete the double for a second successive season. But it will be anything but easy. In Opposition – AFC Liverpool
AFC Liverpool has been having a solid season so far in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division. After 21 games, they’ve won 12, drawn once, and lost eight. Sitting 7th in the league, they’ve scored 50 goals but have let in 46, so they’ve seen their fair share of action at both ends of the pitch.
Their recent form is a bit of a mixed bag – three wins and three losses in their last six games. Most recently, they pulled off an exciting 4-3 away win against West Didsbury & Chorlton, showing they’ve got plenty of fight.
With Phil Stafford at the helm, they’re looking to keep climbing the league ladder and make a strong finish to the season and jump into the play-offs come April.

It was three points for Dave McNabb’s Barmy Army on the Road at Adie Moran Park this past weekend as a brace of wonder goals from super sub Conner Comber made sure that all three points came back up Manchester Road to Bury.

We now have only four games remaining in our league campaign and our eyes are still fully set on promotion to the Northern Premier League.
We start our final four with a visit from mid table AFC Liverpool who currently sit 13th in the table with 17 wins, 5 draws and 21 defeats chalked up this season. In our last encounter at the Marine Travel Arena The Shakers took all three points courtesy of two first half goals from Andy Briggs and Dec Daniels.
With the weather forecasted to be “wet” over the next couple of days we will be working with the North West Pitch Maintenance team as always to make sure the playing surface is ready for play and will share updates across our website, social media platforms and by email should there be any doubt about the game going ahead.
We hope to see another bumper crowd down at Gigg to cheer the lads on and get behind us as we continue our fight for promotion.

Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
Food / Drink: Our catering partner, Quirky Catering, operate the kiosks throughout the ground, and are accessible for supporters under the stands. A selection of hot and cold snacks will be available.
Starkies bar Starkies: For those with tickets in the Main Stand, access to Starkies will be available from when the gates open. The bar is limited to a set number and this will be managed by stewards through the day.
After the game, supporters from other areas of the ground can gain access to Starkies via the ground floor entrance in that corner of the ground – subject to the maximum capacity not being exceeded.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.
Designated Smoking Areas: Supporters are not allowed to smoke / vape anywhere within the stands at Gigg Lane. Designated areas are set aside to do this, follow guidance from stewards on this and only smoke / vape within these areas.

We face AFC Liverpool tomorrow (7.45pm) as we start a run of three home games in seven days. And we do so in good heart after two great victories.
Notching up an impressive 2-1 win against Avro in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday after that thumping 7-1 win at Abbey Hey four days earlier.
The Shakers took the lead against the Northern Premier League side through Alex Cherera just before half-time. The Oldham side equalised through a free kick late in the second half just as Lewis Alessandra came on as a substitute. But new signing Alessandra grabbed the winner three minutes from time.
Maghull FC follow AFC Liverpool at Gigg next Saturday, and Cheadle Town FC on Bank Holiday Monday (both 3.00pm).
The last time Bury were at home they played out a disappointing 2-2 draw against Irlam in the first game on the new 3G pitch. We are hoping for better as welcome Merseyside-based opposition to Gigg Lane for the first time of the season. Get all your match details below.

AFC Liverpool are currently fourth in the NWCFL Premiership table, having won three and drawn one of their four matches, just ahead of Bury’s two wins and two draws.
The club was born in 2008 as an expression of frustration by 1,000 Liverpool FC fans at the cost and difficulty of getting tickets for Premier League matches.
They insisted that they had no issue with the Anfield club or its owners but with the way the top end of English football was being run. Indeed, they hoped to be considered Liverpool’s “little brother”.
After entering into a ground-sharing agreement with Prescot Cables, they joined the North West Counties Football League and three years later accepted the offer of a place in the Premier Division. After relegation and then promotion, they are now seen as an established Premier Division team.

Match Info: Avro (A), Sat 17th Aug, 3pm KO
Wow! Bury go into their FA Cup preliminary round match at Avro on Saturday with confidence sky high after a thumping 7-1 league victory at Abbey Hey on Tuesday.
The Shakers needed a good performance after the tame home draw against Irlam at Gigg Lane last weekend. And they lived up to their nickname with six goals in an amazing second half.
The goal-fest began with a rapid-fire hat-trick in 10 minutes from Reuben Jerome, followed by goals Rustam Stepan (71), Cameron Fogarty (80) and Efe Ambrose (92).
There was little warning of what was to come in the first half, when Bury’s dominance was rewarded by just one goal from Bebeto Gomes on 13 minutes.
The victory keeps them just two points behind leaders Charnock Richard, and gives them a goal difference of 10 – not bad after just four league games!
In Opposition – Avro
Avro FC have won one and lost one of their first two games in the Northern Premier League West Division. After a 1-0 victory at home to Atherton Collieries on Saturday they lost by the same score at Wythenshawe Town on Tuesday. There was a touch of irony there, because Town were promoted last season via the NWCL premiership play-offs at Bury’s expense.
This is the Oldham club’s second season in the NPL. They started life in 1936 at the Failsworth factory of aircraft builder A V Roe. The club joined the Manchester League in 1954. They were promoted to the league’s Premier Division exactly half a century later. They topped the division in 2010 and held on to the title in the following season.
A big step forward came in 2017 when they left their Failsworth base and moved to a newly-built stadium in Oldham. For several years they shared the ground – now called the Vestacare Stadium – with the Oldham rugby league club. It has a 4G artificial turf pitch.
In 2018, Avro were promoted to the North West Counties League Division One North, and the following year went up to the Premier Division after finishing second.

Match Info: Barnoldswick Town (A), Sat 7th Oct, 3pm KO
They love a debut goal the Jepsons.
It was the opening game of the 96/97 season when Stan Ternant’s new signing Ronnie Jepson scored in a home draw against Brentford. This past Tuesday, over 27 years since that one all draw, Ronnies son Oli Jepson scored a peach of a header in front of the home fans on his Shakers Debut.
Oli wasn’t the only one to find the back of the net with Benito Lowe bagging a brace (Anyone else been singing that song ever since?) and Connor Comber finding the top bins from twenty yards out, rounding off a 4 – 2 win and phenomenal second half display from Dave McNabbs men in white.

With teams around us either stumbling or not playing The Shakers find ourselves at the top of the league as we approach the weekend and coming into a vein of form having won in four of our last five games.

In Opposition – Barnoldswick Town
Formed in 1972 and named Barnoldswick United(1972) – so called due to being canny Yorkshiremen- had there been a previous club named Barnoldswick United and they had outstanding debts the new club would have been liable for them.
The field started out as a grazing meadow for cattle, after a lot of hard work, it is now the pitch we play on. The club had 2 teams playing in the Craven & District Football League, in the early 1990’s we joined the East Lancashire Football League again with 2 teams.
In the late 1990’s we had 3 teams our 1st & 2nd team teams joined The West Lancashire Football League, our 3rds staying in The East Lancashire League.
The 2003/2004 season brought the amalgamation of Barnoldswick United (1972), Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and we changed our name to Barnoldswick Town Football Club.
It has always been in the club’s constitution to get our ground up to the minimum standards of The North West Counties Football League and the 2009/2010 season saw us accepted into The North West Counties Football League.
Alongside our main pitch we have a floodlit training pitch. Our club house can hold up to 100 people and be hired out for functions. Our main sponsor is Silentnight Beds Ltd and the ground is named The Silentnight Stadium.
In 2009/2010 our first season in The NWCFL saw us finish runners up in Division 1 and finalists in the prestigious West Riding County Cup beating Guiseley who won promotion to the Conference North along the way. It was an interesting season as we only expected to hold our own and try to make sure we didn’t end up at the bottom of the league.
Following on from our success in the 2009/2010 season we went from just looking to avoid relegation in the Premier Division 2010/2011 to astound ourselves by finishing a creditable 7th in the league, only suspensions and injuries we feel robbed us of a top three spot.
In March 2012 we achieved The FA Grade E, enabling the club to enter The Evo-Stik League when finishing in a promotion position.
The 2012/2013 season saw us finish 9th in the Premier Division and reaching a round further in The FA Vase. Our Reserves finishing 4th in their respective league, with players being selected for the first team squad showing we have strength and depth in the club.
The 2013/14 season was a little bit traumatic for the club, players leaving or not being available, unrest in the dressing room which led to poor performances on the field.
In June of 2014 we achieved Charter Standard Development Club at both Senior and Junior level, which was an excellent achievement by both Senior & Junior Committees. The season had ended on a knife edge, if results on the last day of the season had gone a different way we would have been relegated
For the 2017/2018 Barnoldswick Town have one team in the Hallmark Security League and one team in The Lancashire Football League Western Division (Galaxy League).
The Junior section has 21 teams in The East Lancashire League from U7’s -U18’s, plus one U12’s girls team playing in The West Riding League. They also have a Tiny Town Junior Academy for 4 – 6 year olds.

With Christmas and New Year behind us, The Shakers enter 2024 sitting atop the North West Counties Premier Division table after a month that saw Dave McNabb’s men go unbeaten in the league.
With the only mark on what would have been a perfect month being our Macron Cup exit to Charnock Richard which saw us fall to a narrow defeat at Gigg Lane.
Wins on the road at Longridge and AFC Liverpool, a draw against a plucky Burscough side and a solid home win against promotion chasers Prestwich Heys were enough to make sure we saw the New Year in sitting at number one.
We now head into a packed January schedule with seven fixtures on the calendar starting on Tuesday evening at home to Barnoldswick, a team we put to the sword at The Silent Night Stadium in a rip-roaring seven-nil epic.
Our visitors sit mid-table in 13th position but have only managed to play 21 league fixtures so far this season and haven’t played in the league since their away trip to the Isle Of Man on the 9th of December after having four consecutive games postponed.
Dave McNabb’s men will be keen to capitalise on the momentum of two excellent two-nil wins against Prestwich on Boxing Day and AFC Liverpool on the 30th.

Food / Drink: Our catering partner, Quirky Catering, will be operating the kiosks throughout the season, and are accessible for supporters under the stands. A selection of hot and cold snacks will be available. Alcohol will be sold, and can be consumed anywhere in the stand. Please respect the advice from stewards on managing this process on the day.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.

Match Info: Barnoldswick Town (H), Tues 12th Mar, 7.45pm KO
We return home, but not as we know it, for a Tuesday clash against Barnoldswick Town in front of empty stands at Gigg Lane as the first of our stadium bans comes into force this week. The appeal against the ban to play two games behind closed doors, was rejected last week.
Supporters will therefore not be able to watch from the stands for this game, or Saturday’s fixture against Charnock Richard. A summary of what this means has been outlined here.
Despite this, the squad will be keen to jump back upon the horse after a stumble at weekend when we left the RG3 Digitial Stadium with no points in a disappointing game against Irlam.
The teams cancelled each other out in the main, without many gilt edged chances for either side on a windy day in Salford. It was the hosts who grabbed the only goal of the game mid-way through the first half, with Ethan Cartwright lashing home a drilled shot from the edge of the box. Chances for Daniels on his return to Irlam, as well as Miles Storey, Sam Burns and Benito Lowe all didn’t hit the mark and we fell to defeat for the first time in 15 league games.
It was also the first league shut-out of the season, with us hitting the net in all of the other 37 games up to Saturday, scoring 96 times in the process. The goals are there, and manager Dave McNabb will be hoping the squad return to form this week. The gaffer’s post-match interview from Saturday is available below.
If this Tuesday’s game is anything like the reverse fixture when we visited The Silent Night Stadium in October, goals we will not be short of.

They currently sit in 16th position in the league, with 11 wins and 10 draws from 35 games so far. Last time out on Saturday, they lost to Wythenshawe Town 3-1.

Match Info: Blyth Spartans (A), Sat 14th Sept, 3pm KO
Bring it on! That’s the spirit in the camp as the Shakers face the long journey to the North East tomorrow to face Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup.
Yes, they’re a club with a great history and in a higher league. But we have already seen off three teams from a higher division in earlier rounds and have nothing to fear.
And another Yes – we struggled against Isle of Man last weekend. But that last kick draw with two of our players in the sin bin boosted morale on and off the pitch. And we go into this cup game on the back of a thoroughly professional 4-2 win at Glossop Town on Tuesday.
The Glossop game proved the value of having a squad of players with strength in depth. Three changes enabled some to be rested and added fresh legs to a group of players who’d had a tough weekend.
In Opposition – Blyth Spartans
Despite a stunning history dating back to 1889, the Northumberland coastal town team are struggling in the Northern Premier League. They have won only one and drawn two of their eight games, and currently lie second to bottom.
Getting through to this round of the cup was a struggle after they went one down in their Wednesday night home replay against Yorkshire amateur side Campion AFC. Blyth equalised in the second half, but the game went into extra time even after the Bradford team’s goalkeeper was shown a red card. They finally ran out 3-1 winners.
The 1-1 draw in Bradford last Saturday was David Stockdale’s first match as interim manager. Afterwards, he said: “The main thing for me was the character that came out of it…Nobody is going to say it was a great performance, but it was a good performance in terms of character and determination, which is what I asked of them.”

Travel by Train: The nearest railway station is Cramlington, which is served by trains from Newcastle Central and Morpeth. However, Cramlington is located five miles away from Croft Park and a taxi from here will cost you approximately £11.50 (Phoenix Taxis).
Travel by Bus: You can take an X9 bus half hourly from Cramlington to Blyth, this takes approximately 40 minutes. An alternative might be to get off at Newcastle Central Station and take a 20 minute walk to Haymarket Bus Station and take an X10/X11 to Blyth. This journey takes roughly 1 hour.
Travel by Car:
From the North
From the A189 (Spine Road) take the A193 (Cowpen Road) exit and follow this into Blyth, continue on the A193 as it becomes The Broadway. Continue on the A193 at The Broadway Circle roundabout and take the next left on to Plessey Road. The ground will be on your left.
From the South
Exit the A19 onto the A189 (Spine Road) at the Annitsford Roundabout. After two miles exit onto the A1061 (signed A192 Seaton Delaval, Cramlington and Blyth Beach. Follow the A1061 for approximately three miles and exit left onto the A193. Turn right at the second roundabout onto Plessey Road as above.
Parking is freely available on the surrounding streets but please park sensibly and respect the local residents.

Segregation is rarely in place but for high profile games visiting supporters are accommodated in the Plessey Road Stand where up to 1,200 fans can be housed in this covered terrace. The festive season starts up with a visit to the Community Ground and back to Burscough this weekend, as matters in the NWCFL resume.
In fact, it is NWCFL action from here on in after our exit from the Macron Cup last weekend at Gigg Lane. The loss by a single goal to Charnock Richard directs focus on just the league now, with 21 league games to go.
And there will be recent wrongs to put right, with our last visit to Burscough to play Skelmersdale in late November being a disappointment and the squad returning with no points following a 2-1 loss.
However, there is cause for great optimism in the league. A run of six wins out of seven has meant we keep up the pace at the top, with Wythenshawe two points ahead at the top and a Prestwich Heys side, who visit Gigg Lane on Boxing Day, just a point behind in third.
With the rush of Christmas fixtures maybe arriving too quickly for injured forward due of Andy Briggs and Benito Lowe, manager Dave McNabb will be pleased to have Dec Daniels back after his debut goal at Longridge, after he was cup-tied last weekend. The striker, with 34 goals already this term, will be looking to capitalise on the number of chances being created, which currently don’t reflect in the number of times the ball hits the back of the net.

And let’s not forget our previous game was the outstanding 8-0 home win against Longridge Town, in which we excelled in every department.
Lower Breck were always going to be a challenge, given their form. The last time any team put four goals past the Shakers was the first day of the season – a 4-4 draw at Squires Gate.
Having a week to recover, and with two training sessions, hopes are high that we can put that disappointment behind us and push on. Promotion is our goal, and every match is a challenge.
Our outstanding group of players are no doubt being reminded of that performance as they prepare to take on the Linnets.

In Opposition – Burscough
Back in September, we beat Burscough 3-0 at home in the Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round. They’re currently 17th in the league table, with 27 points from 24 games, in contrast to the Shakers’ 3rd position, with 49 points from two games fewer.
They were given a welcome boost on Saturday when they beat Irlam 1-0 at home on their excellent 4G all-weather pitch. They had lost all their previous five matches.
The club came into existence in 1946 and moved to a newly-built ground three years ago. They became members of the North-West Counties league when it was formed in 1982, and topped the table in the first season. Last term they finished 20th, having drawn 2-2 with Bury both at home and away.

Driving: Leave the M58 motorway at J3 for Bickerstaffe and then take the A570 towards Ormskirk.
At the roundabout, with the petrol station on your right, take the 2nd exit onto the B5240. After 1.5 miles turn left onto A577 then right into Plough Lane (B5240). Follow the road for 2.5 miles and at the roundabout take the first exit onto A5209 and then first right onto Ring O’Bells Lane. At the crossroads turn left onto Carr Lane and cross over the bridge into School Lane. Follow the road all the way down into the village of Burscough and turn right at the roundabout. Turn left at the next roundabout and continue past the Tesco store. The ground is behind the Tesco superstore at the end of short track.
Ground Facilities: Car parking is available. The pitchside snack hut offers a variety of hot food such as chips, burgers, chicken burgers, hot dogs, pies etc. The club’s 1946 lounge and viewing balcony will be open from 12:30pm.

Match Info: Burscough (H), Sat 10th Feb, 3pm KO
We welcome Burscough for their first visit to Gigg Lane as we hope to resume matters in the NWCFL Premier Division this Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
Our game on Tuesday night was called off owing to a water-logged pitch, so we will now play Ramsbottom later in the season. With 14 games to fit in between now and 20th April, there’s plenty to get your teeth into as we head on the hunt for top spot.
We have the covers on the pitch (see here) in the hope of avoiding a repeat of the recent cancellations following the snow and wet weather through this week. We thank our grounds staff for going above and beyond this week to assist in this regard.
Last weekend, we got a win on the road at Pilkington, stretching our unbeaten run in the league to nine. Scoring 33 goals in the process. It was Oli Jepson who got on the scoresheet first last weekend with a powerful header at the back post, before Andy Briggs netted his 20th and 21st goals of the season either side of an early reposte from Pilkington in the first half.
Pilks almost found away back into the game in the dying minutes of the second half capitalising on a rare mistake in the Bury defence and slotting a late goal past Harry Wright, but The Shakers stood firm to close out the game to ensure Dave McNabb’s men came away with all three points.

In Opposition – Burscough
Following the Second World War, the present Burscough club was founded in 1946, starting life in the Liverpool County Combination. In only their second season, 1946/47, they achieved a unique treble, winning the Lancashire Junior Cup, George Mahon Cup and the Liverpool Challenge Cup.
In 1982 the Club became founder members of the North West Counties Football League and had the distinction of becoming the Leagues first ever Champions under Bryan Griffiths.
In more recent times, following the resignation of John Davison the club appointed Shaun Teale as player/manager in May 2002 and the ex-Aston Villa defender went on to sensationally lead the club to its greatest ever achievement as Burscough became the smallest club to ever win the FA Trophy following a tremendous 2-1 victory over Tamworth at Villa Park on Sunday 18th May 2003 in front of a crowd of 14,296 spectators and televised live on Sky. There were incredible scenes as almost 2,000 fans welcomed the team home to Victoria Park.
An incredible end to 2003/04 season saw Burscough finish with a remarkable run of victories that saw them claw their way out of the bottom three into the play-offs for Conference North. Despite playing all their games away from home the Linnets went on to reach the play-off final where they only went down at Bradford Park Avenue following extra-time. During the summer Frank Parr stepped down after 30 years as chairman with local businessman Chris Lloyd taking over at the helm.
Season 2005/06 was another historic one for Burscough F.C. as they went on to reach the Second Round proper of the F.A. Cup for the first time in their history. In reaching that milestone they defeated League One side Gillingham 3-2 on a never to be forgotten day at Victoria Park before going out to Burton Albion.
Despite spending many a season in the higher reaches of the non-league pyramid, financial difficulties through the 2010s lead to Burscough ending up back in the NWCFL in 2017. This season has been equally tricky for The Linnets, with nine wins and two draws in their 32 games. However, they have opened up a gap between themselves and tenants, Skelmersdale United, who sit bottom.

Stadium Entry: Gates will open at 1:30pm.
Our matchday volunteers will be on hand, both outside the turnstiles and inside the ground, to guide supporters to where they need to be. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask those who are there to help the day.

Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
Food / Drink: Our new catering partner, Quirky Catering, operate the kiosks throughout the ground, and are accessible for supporters under the stands. A selection of hot and cold snacks will be available. Alcohol will be unavailable in kiosks for the time being, full details available here. Please respect the advice from stewards on managing this process on the day.
Starkies bar Starkies: For those with tickets in the Main Stand, access to Starkies will be available from when the gates open with drinks required to be consumed in the bar only for the next two games. The bar is limited to a set number and this will be managed by stewards through the day.
After the game, supporters from other areas of the ground can gain access to Starkies via the ground floor entrance in that corner of the ground – subject to the maximum capacity not being exceeded.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.
Designated Smoking Areas: Supporters are not allowed to smoke / vape anywhere within the stands at Gigg Lane. Designated areas are set aside to do this, follow guidance from stewards on this and only smoke / vape within these areas.

It’s back to knock-out football as the Shakers face NWCFL rivals Burscough in the Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round (kick-off 3.00pm).
This follows hard on the heels of Tuesday’s thrilling 1-1 away NWCFL draw with league leaders and local rivals Ramsbottom United and last Saturday’s thumping 3-0 FA Cup away victory over Blyth Spartans.
The games keep coming as we progress in two cup competitions and try to catch up with an early season deficit in league games played.
Rustam Stepans scored the spectacular equaliser against the Rams. Facing away from goal and with his marker at his back, Stepans flicked the ball over his head with his right foot and turned to volley it into the net with his left.
The goals at Blyth came from Alex Cherera, Bebeto Gomes and Connor Pye – his first for the club. And what a game they set up! The draw on Monday paired the Shakers with ultimate local rivals Radcliffe Borough in the third qualifying round.
The Isuzu FA Vase is the leading knock-out competition for tiers 9 and 10 of the English football league system. The winners of the Bury-Burscough game go into the first round proper on Saturday 19 October.

The club came into existence in 1946. They were founder members of the North-West Counties league in 1982, and topped the table in its first year. Last season they finished 20th, having drawn 2-2 with Bury both at home and away.

Match Info: Chadderton (A), Fri 20th Dec, 7:45pm KO
For many weeks, this fixture and our Boxing Day clash against Ramsbottom at Gigg Lane have looked like crunch games. Now…well, it’s difficult to overstate how vital they are after a recent series of flaky performances.
It’s quite a litany: 23rd November lost 3-4 at Lower Breck; 4th December lost 1-3 at Litherland REMYCA; 10th December drew 1-1 at Irlam; 14th December drew 3-3 at home to Abbey Hey.
Watching the first-half against Abbey Hey it was hard to believe the team in blue and white were playing to go top of the league. But despite that first-half performance and the final score, there were positives – not least the second-half fightback.
This is still effectively the team who went 21 games without defeat and beat Radcliffe away in a great FA Cup run. Remember, we only just fell short of reaching the First Round proper. But manager Dave McNabb has rung the changes, with Morgan Homson-Smith returning the squad after an extended stay in the UAE, new arrivals at the back with Eoin Charles and Courtney Meppen-Walter joining, alongside Gaz Peet’s confirmation he will stay on this season.
Every match is a new start. And never moreso this Friday, as we look to go top with a win.
So once again the cry goes up: Come on you Shakers!!! Come on!!!
In Opposition – Chadderton
Chaddy are having a remarkable season, having so far played not a single home game while their new all-weather pitch is being installed.
They are currently residing mostly at the Vestacare Stadium, the home of Avro FC, where our clash takes place this week.
Going into the game top of the league with 59 points from 28 games – closely followed by ourselves with 57 from 27 and Ramsbottom 57 from 26. We take on Rammy in our next game, on Boxing Day!
We were knocked out of the Isuzu FA Vase 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Gigg Lane, and our under-23s team were defeated by the same opposition in the Macron Cup. We do have the bragging rights in the league however, with a 3-1 win back in October.
Chadderton have won all their last six games, scoring 20 goals and conceding just 7.

Dave McNabb’s side come into Saturday’s game away at Chadderton with a full week of training behind them after last weekend’s emphatic win away at Barnoldswick Town.
A squad made up of mainly Under 23s featured in Tuesday night’s Manchester Cup tie away at Glossop North End, which ended 2-0 to the oppositions.
Shakeel Jones-Griffiths & Lewis Gilboy also featured in the squad for the midweek trip, giving them both an opportunity to step up into a senior role.
In Opposition – Chadderton
The club was established in 1946 as Burnley Lane Estate Juniors and initially played in the Middleton Youth League. The following year the club moved to Mill Brow, started an adult team and were renamed Millbrow Football Club. After moving again the club was renamed North Chadderton Amateurs. At the time, the club played in the Oldham Amateur League, winning its Challenge Cup in 1954–55. They moved up to the Manchester Amateur League, winning the North division in 1955–56 and adopting their current name in 1957.
At the end of the 1958–59 season Chadderton were promoted to Division One. They were Division One champions in 1962–63, and also started playing in Division Two of the Manchester League. They were runners-up in Division Two in both 1962–63 and 1963–64, before winning the division in 1964–65. However, they were not promoted.[5] The division was renamed Division One in 1966 and Chadderton were champions again in 1966–67, after which they were promoted to the Premier Division.
In 1980 Chadderton moved up to the Lancashire Combination. When the league merged with the Cheshire County League in 1982 to form the North West Counties League, Chadderton were founder members of Division Two. A third-place finish in 1988–89 saw them promoted to Division One. However, they finished bottom of Division One the following season and were relegated back to Division Two. Despite only finishing eleventh in 1991–92, the club were promoted to Division One again. They played in Division One until being demoted at the end of the 1997–98 season due to failing ground grading requirements. Division Two was renamed Division One in 2008.
A sixth-place finish in 2014–15 season saw Chadderton qualify for the promotion play-offs. However, they lost 2–1 to AFC Darwen in the semi-finals. In 2018 the club were placed in Division One North when the league gained another division. In 2022–23 they were runners-up in Division One North, qualifying for the play-offs. In the semi-finals they beat Euxton Villa on penalties after a 1–1 draw, before going on to defeat FC St Helens on penalties in the final (after another 1–1 draw), earning promotion to the Premier Division.

This home cup-tie provides us with a double benefit: we can give Under-23s players game time and have an extra training session before the tough fixture against high-flying Lower Breck on Saturday.
It also gives fans a chance to get along to Gigg Lane to recall and celebrate our outstanding performance of the season. The stunning 8-0 home win against Longridge gave morale a massive boost right across the club.
And there will now be no NWCFL game at Gigg Lane until we entertain Colne on Saturday December 7. The match at Lower Breck will be followed by games at Burscough a week later and Litherland REMYCA on December 4.
Meanwhile, we look forward to a great performance from the younger players after their experience at Abbey Hey in the Manchester Premier Cup five weeks ago. They were doing fine until they had a player sent off, and lost 4-2.
In Opposition – Chadderton
The clash with Chadderton was lined up back in June, when we were both awarded a bye in the draw for the first round.
They started the league season strongly, but their form has dipped of late – four defeats in their last six matches.
Nevertheless they’re still third in the table, with 47 points from 24 games compared with second-placed Shakers’ on 49 from 21 and top side Ramsbottom’s 53 from 24.

Newly promoted Chadderton are the visitors to Gigg Lane this Saturday, as Andy Welsh’s side look to continue their 100% record in all competitions.
Sajjad Elhassan’s penalty was the winning goal in Tuesday’s victory away at Wythenshawe Town. The Shakers were two-nil down at half-time, before two goals from Andy Briggs in the opening ten minutes of the second half brought us level.
Lewis Gilboy was felled in the area for Saj’s penalty with around 15 minutes to go, and the calmest man in the ground was able to slot home past experienced goalkeeper Greg Hall. In Opposition – Chadderton
The club was established in 1946 as Burnley Lane Estate Juniors and initially played in the Middleton Youth League. The following year the club moved to Mill Brow, started an adult team and were renamed Millbrow Football Club. After moving again the club was renamed North Chadderton Amateurs. At the time, the club played in the Oldham Amateur League, winning its Challenge Cup in 1954–55. They moved up to the Manchester Amateur League, winning the North division in 1955–56 and adopting their current name in 1957.
At the end of the 1958–59 season Chadderton were promoted to Division One. They were Division One champions in 1962–63, and also started playing in Division Two of the Manchester League. They were runners-up in Division Two in both 1962–63 and 1963–64, before winning the division in 1964–65. However, they were not promoted.[5] The division was renamed Division One in 1966 and Chadderton were champions again in 1966–67, after which they were promoted to the Premier Division.
In 1980 Chadderton moved up to the Lancashire Combination. When the league merged with the Cheshire County League in 1982 to form the North West Counties League, Chadderton were founder members of Division Two. A third-place finish in 1988–89 saw them promoted to Division One. However, they finished bottom of Division One the following season and were relegated back to Division Two. Despite only finishing eleventh in 1991–92, the club were promoted to Division One again. They played in Division One until being demoted at the end of the 1997–98 season due to failing ground grading requirements. Division Two was renamed Division One in 2008.
A sixth-place finish in 2014–15 season saw Chadderton qualify for the promotion play-offs. However, they lost 2–1 to AFC Darwen in the semi-finals. In 2018 the club were placed in Division One North when the league gained another division. In 2022–23 they were runners-up in Division One North, qualifying for the play-offs. In the semi-finals they beat Euxton Villa on penalties after a 1–1 draw, before going on to defeat FC St Helens on penalties in the final (after another 1–1 draw), earning promotion to the Premier Division.

Matchday Programme: You can purchase a programme online now, to collect at the merchandise stall tomorrow afternoon or head to the sellers in and around the ground ahead of the game at the price of £3.
Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.
Designated Smoking Areas: Supporters are not allowed to smoke / vape anywhere within the stands at Gigg Lane. Designated areas are set aside to do this, follow guidnace from stewards on this and only smoke / vape within these areas.

The Shakers face a tough third cup match in eight days, as they prepare to take on Chadderton in the First Round Proper of the Isuzu FA Vase this Saturday. The prospect of playing in the Wembley final is a great motivator. And it’s a match for which the battle at the top of the NWCFL is incredibly relevant.
Like the Shakers, Chadderton are having a great second season in the league. They are in second place, with 41 points from 19 games – five behind leaders Ramsbottom, having played two fewer games.
Bury – fourth, with 32 points from 14 games – beat Chadderton 3-1 under lights at Gigg Lane little more than two weeks ago. Scorer Bryan Ly, was Man of the Match just days after his dramatic late FA Cup penalty beat Radcliffe. The other goals came from Lewis Alessandra and substitute Cam Fogerty.
It will be good to be at Gigg Lane on a Saturday for the first time in four weeks. We were drawn away for this tie, but work on the pitch at the Falcon Fire Stadium – where a 3G pitch is being installed – meant the game has been switched.

In Opposition – Chadderton FC
Chadderton were founder members of the North-West Counties League in 1982, but it took them 41 years to reach the Premier Division.
They finally made it through the Division One North play-offs in 2023, and went on to reach a creditable seventh place in their first season.
They beat the Shakers 3-1 at Gigg Lane and 3-2 at Andrew Street last season, following a glut of late goal drama in both games.
The club traces its history back to 1946 and the launch of Burnley Lane Estate Juniors. It took its present name in 1957 and following a recent Premier League grant, and years of hard work, pitch redevelopments started in September this year to install a 3G pitch. This is due to be ready to play on in 2025.

Pressure? This Bury team thrives on it. Everyone knows the league is our top priority. But this past weekend it was the FA Cup and a visit to Radcliffe.
It was a remarkable away victory in a massive local derby, against a team three tiers above us in the football pyramid but Dave, his staff and his team never thought they wouldn’t come away with the win.
Before the kick off there was a tribute to the late Paul Hilton, Radcliffe’s Chairman, who sadly passed away last week. With both clubs laying wreaths in the center circle and all 2,800 in attendance taking part in a minute’s applause to celebrate the life a man who has done so much not only for non-league football but for his club’s local community too. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The game began… And what a game: Radcliffe one up after seven minutes. Bury level in 57 and ahead in 82. Radcliffe level in 89. And finally…Bury’s winning penalty in 103. Amazing!
Yes, we celebrated our win on Saturday. Yes, we all awaited the fourth qualifying round draw with baited breath. But there’s no blurring of the focus on promotion as we look back to the North West Counties Premier Division and a huge match against second placed Chadderton, a team who find themselves in a rich vein of form in recent weeks.
It’s going to be a tough game, but Dave and his team are revved up and ready to go following this weekend’s win and we need you behind us from the first minute until the final whistle!!

Good performances in recent games have put Chadderton in a strong position in the NWCFL Premier Division table, just behind leaders Ramsbottom and having played two games fewer. Their 32 points from 15 matches compares with Ramsbottom’s 36 from 17 and Bury’s 25 from 11 in fifth position.
On Friday night, Chadderton beat AFC Liverpool 7-1 away, having won 5-3 at

It’s our second visit to Mossie Park in eight days, we were beaten in the FA Cup last Saturday, after a late winner from Charnock Richard’s Luke Power in added time saw the Lancastrians into the next round. You can watch the highlights from that game below:

In Opposition – Charnock Richard
In 1933 the Chorley Sunday League became the Chorley Alliance League and a Charnock Richard village team was entered, but on the outbreak of the Second World War the league and team were temporarily suspended. At the end of the War, in 1945, the Chorley Alliance League was reformed along with Charnock Richard F.C. The team proved to be a tremendous success, eventually winning the league title in the 1947-48 season, losing only two games, and scoring 107 goals. This success prompted them to try and run two teams, but they ran into difficulties and the club closed at the end of the 1948-49 season.
In 1955, under the leadership of Ron Wilcox, the present club was reformed, and once again played in the Chorley Alliance League.
Charnock progressed to the North West Counties League in 2016-17 after finishing as runners-up in the West Lancashire League in the previous season and won promotion to the Premier Division of the NWCL in the first season when finishing runners up in Division 1. In the 21-22 season the club won the North West Counties League, League Challenge Cup.
Last season, Charnock finished 11th in NWCFL Premier Division.

Our FA Cup journey continues as head over to Charnock Richard this weekend for the first preliminary round tie at Mossie Park.
We overcame Uttoxeter Town in the last round, with a 4-1 win at Gigg Lane. Uttoxeter took the lead early in the first half from a deflected effort, before Lowe and Higgins took us into the break with a 2-1 lead. Further goals from Lowe (again) and a late Connor Comber penalty was enough to take us through in front of 2,900 supporters. Catch up with the highlights below:
This first round tie was already drawn prior to the extra preliminary round, with either Charnock or Squires Gate awaiting the winners of the Gigg Lane tie. Charnock comprehensively dispatched Gate, smacking seven unanswered second half goals to set up this weekend’s tie.
We head back to Charnock in just 10 days time for our league fixture, with the Lancashire-based side sat in 7th and remain unbeaten so far with two wins and three draws from the opening five games. Last time out, they took the honours in the local derby at Burscough with a 2-0 win.

The Shakers go into this game against Charnock Richard lying second in the league. That’s largely thanks to four goals in four games from loanee DJ Pedro – and the fact that the top two were playing in the Isuzu FA Vase at the weekend.
We beat Charnock Richard 2-0 on their own ground barely three weeks ago, and this game is the second in a run of three against sides we have faced in the reverse fixture already, with Longridge the visitors to Gigg this Saturday. DJ made his debut four days later when we beat Colne away by the same score.
He didn’t score in that match, but has made up for it by scoring four in the next three – the 2-0 home win against Pilkington; the 1-1 home draw with St Helens; and one in each half in our 2-0 weekend victory at AFC Liverpool.
He was just what was needed as the Shakers of late have struggled to turn the number of chances created into goals. So the message is…more of the same against the Villagers, please.
This is due to be the last league game under lights for 2024, with the under-23s likely to feature heavily next Monday night in the Macron Cup, come on down and make a noise. Come on you Shakers!!!

In Opposition – Charnock Richard
Charnock Richard lost 3-1 away to North Shields in their weekend Isuzu FA Vase match, following a 3-1 home win against Barnoldswick Town in the league last Tuesday.
They’re currently 13th in the table – two places lower than when we beat them at Mossie Park three weeks ago. They’ve won just nine of their 23 matches and lost the same number.
The Villagers won promotion to the Premier Division in 2017, just a year after joining the NWCFL.

Match Info: Charnock Richard (A), Tue 22nd Oct, 7:45pm KO
The game against Charnock Richard marks a turning point in our season, and a good performance in this and every remaining fixture is vital if we are to achieve our primary aim: promotion.
It was a bitter pill to swallow when the Shakers exited their third cup competition in eight days – beaten by Chadderton on penalties in the Isuzu FA Vase.
So it’s goodbye to the cups, and there’s no time for self-pity as we go back to league action at Charnock Richard’s Mossie Park stadium.
Several leading players were missing through injuries on Saturday. But the quality the Shakers take into the battle for promotion was plain to see. Not for the first time, however, we didn’t really start to play until the second half.
Top-scorer Rustam Stepans took the chance for the 48th-minute equaliser superbly. But his 13th goal of the season was a team goal, and clearly showed the difference between the two sides, and on Tuesday he faces up to his former side.
It should never have gone to penalties. But we didn’t add to our tally, and all credit to battling Chadderton.
So now for the league. Come on, you Shakers!
In Opposition – Charnock Richard
Charnock Richard have had a mixed season so far. They’re 11th in the table, having won seven and lost seven games, with three drawn. But they were given a massive boost by Saturday’s 3-1 win at home to third-placed Lower Breck – one of the most consistent teams in the league.
The Villagers’ history dates back to 1933, and their set-up took its present form in 1955. They joined the NWCFL in 2016 and were promoted to the Premier Division in the following year.
As a thoroughly local village club, they run a wide variety of teams from juniors to veterans.

Travel by Train: Euxton Balshaw Lane (2.4 miles).
Travel by public bus: Don’t, there isn’t one!
Travel by car: From M6 to junction 28 (Leyland) at end of slip road turn right. Travel to the traffic lights and turn right onto the A49 towards Wigan, through Euxton and into Charnock Richard. Pass the Bowling Green Pub on the right, continue for ¾ mile and turn left into Church Lane. Turn first right into Charter lane, ground 500 yards on the right.
From M61 to junction 8 (Chorley) follow the signs for Southport on reaching the A49 follow signs for Wigan, through Charnock Richard directions then as above. PLEASE USE THE CLUB PARK. Do not park on the road.
Car Parking: Free parking will be available on the main car park at the ground but please be aware that the main car park is expected to fill up very quickly due to the expected large crowd on the day. If you are unable to park at the ground then we ask that you be respectful when parking on roads within the village and be courteous to local residents.
Please DO NOT park along Charter Lane in front of residential properties on that road.
Ground Facilities: The ground will be open from 6.30pm and there will be the usual stocks of hot food, pies, pasties and hot drinks being served from our new Cafe Building inside the ground which can accept cash or card payments.
Our main clubhouse bar, which is situated across the road from the stadium, will be open serving alcoholic drinks from 6.30pm with the usual Sky Sports and BT Sport available. Note – Only drinks in plastic glasses will be allowed into the football ground.

Match Info: Charnock Richard (H), Sat 16th Dec, 3pm KO – 3rd Rd Macron Cup
A win on the road after a short on-field hiatus, was just what the doctor ordered on Wednesday night as we returned from Longridge with three points and retake the top spot in the league – for now.
A penalty from Sam Burns at the end of the first half, alongside a debut goal for Dec Daniels to quickly cancel out the hosts equaliser was greatly received on a cold night for the Shakers faithful.
The Macron Cup slides into the fixture calendar this weekend, with Charnock Richard visiting Gigg Lane for the first time.
We overcame Ramsbottom United in the previous round, following a keenly fought contest last month that ended with a see-saw penalty shoot-out and Player of the Month, Gaz Peet slotting home the winning penalty in front of a healthy Riverside crowd. Highlights from that game are available below.
Charnock have beaten Euxton Villa and Holker Old Boys in the previous rounds of this competition. With a number of postponements blighting their recent progress, despite this they are in a rich vein of form with the last loss in either league or cup coming in mid-September.

In 1933 the Chorley Sunday League became the Chorley Alliance League and a Charnock Richard village team was entered, but on the outbreak of the Second World War the league and team were temporarily suspended. At the end of the War, in 1945, the Chorley Alliance League was reformed along with Charnock Richard F.C. The team proved to be a tremendous success, eventually winning the league title in the 1947-48 season, losing only two games, and scoring 107 goals. This success prompted them to try and run two teams, but they ran into difficulties and the club closed at the end of the 1948-49 season.
In 1955, under the leadership of Ron Wilcox, the present club was reformed, and once again played in the Chorley Alliance League.
Charnock progressed to the North West Counties League in 2016-17 after finishing as runners-up in the West Lancashire League in the previous season and won promotion to the Premier Division of the NWCL in the first season when finishing runners up in Division 1. In the 21-22 season the club won the North West Counties League, League Challenge Cup.
Last season, Charnock finished 11th in NWCFL Premier Division.

Entrance to the car park is strictly controlled and includes the areas within and in front of the fenced area. Please contact the Club Secretary with any other related queries.
There is on-street parking in the residential areas surrounding Gigg Lane, with supporters reminded to be respectful and considerate of the local residents at all times, as well as being mindful of and adhering to the parking permit measures in place in close proximity to the ground.
Stadium Entry: Gates will open at 1:30pm.
Our matchday volunteers will be on hand, both outside the turnstiles and inside the ground, to guide supporters to where they need to be. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask those who are there to help the day.
Matchday Programme: You can purchase a programme online now, to collect at the merchandise stall tomorrow afternoon or head to the sellers in and around the ground ahead of the game at the price of £3.
Pound for the Ground: Our ‘Pound for the Ground’ half-time raffle tickets will be on sale in and around the ground, £1 per entry. Sellers accept cash or card, with 40% of the total pot going to the winning ticket with results announced over the PA system and on the scoreboard.
Food / Drink: Our catering partner, Quirky Catering, will be operating the kiosks this weekend and throughout the season, and are accessible for supporters under the stands. A selection of hot and cold snacks will be available. Alcohol will be sold, and can be consumed anywhere in the stand. Please respect the advice from stewards on managing this process on the day.
Keep #GiggGleaming: With so much work gone into Gigg Lane to get us to this point, we want to keep it that way and a lot of work goes into turning the ground around between games each weekend. We have a team of volunteers lined up to clean the stands following the game.
With this in mind, we urge all supporters to make sure any rubbish is processed in the correct manner, using the available bins where necessary, or if possible please take any rubbish away with you.
Designated Smoking Areas: Supporters are not allowed to smoke / vape anywhere within the stands at Gigg Lane. Designated areas are set aside to do this, follow guidance from stewards on this and only smoke / vape within these areas.

We’re back at Gigg Lane on Saturday, but again not as we know it, for an early Saturday clash against Charnock Richard. This game will once again be played out in front of empty stands at Gigg Lane as the second game of our stadium bans comes into force this week after the appeal against the sanctions, was rejected earlier this month.
Dave McNabb and his team will be looking to get back to winning ways after our last outing in which we fell to a second defeat in a row to Barnoldswick.
Despite having over 70% of the possession, and shots on target being in double digits, The Shakers failed to capitalise on a late onslaught of Barlick’s goal with the visitors managing to find the net twice, leaving Gigg Lane with all three points and inflict the first home league loss under McNabb’s tenure.
With Charnock have seemingly been a bit of a bogey team for The Shakers this season. After we led twice in away fixtures in the league and FA Cup, we only gained a point following a late equaliser, and worst still a last minute winner knocked us out of the cup. Compound this with being beaten at Gigg Lane in the Macron Cup 1-0, the team will be focused on a big performance and getting back to the form that saw us go unbeaten in the league between December and March.
