Our women’s first team hosts Curzon Ashton FC Women this coming Sunday, where the Shakers will be looking to progress through to the third and final qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. Currently sitting second in the table, Curzon Ashton have had a strong start to the season. So far, the team has beaten Crewe Alexandra (0-2 and 3-1), West Didsbury and Chorlton (1-5), and FC United of Manchester (1-2). There is no respite for the Shakers and the games keep coming! We follow our cracking 3-0 Emirates FA Cup victory at Blyth Spartans on Saturday by taking on local rivals Ramsbottom United at the Harry Williams Stadium in Rammy on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm). Following four games on the road, we’ve got a busy run of home games coming with three (possibly four) home games in a ten-day period. After our away win at Blyth in the FA Cup yesterday, our game on Saturday 28th September vs FC St Helens will be postponed, in order to play in the Third Qualifying Round Fixture. Following yesterday’s terrific 3-0 win away at Blyth Spartans in the Second Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup, we will be entered into tomorrow’s (Monday 16th) draw for the next round. We’d like to place on record our thanks to Macauley Wilson, who has departed the club today by mutual consent. Macauley joined us from Bamber Bridge in the summer, with a wealth of experience. He made nine competitive appearances for the club, scoring once against AFC Liverpool. Bring it on! That’s the spirit in the camp as the Shakers face the long journey to the North East tomorrow to face Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup. Yes, they’re a club with a great history and in a higher league. But we have already seen off three teams from a higher division in earlier rounds and have nothing to fear. And another Yes – we struggled against Isle of Man last weekend. But that last kick draw with two of our players in the sin bin boosted morale on and off the pitch.
