Credit: Phil Smith Upon signing for the club, Aaron said: “It was a hard choice to leave Stalybridge. I’ve had two spells there and loved every bit of it, but after speaking to Dave about the ambition of the club and what he wants from me. It’s the right move for me.
“The club are going up and not stopping anytime soon. I’m a winner I want to win at anything and everything I do. That’s just the way I am. I’m looking forward to helping the lads and the club get that promotion – that’s my main priority hopefully with a win on Saturday.”
Manager, Dave McNabb added: “Aaron is top quality centre half with real defensive instincts. He’s a leader and organiser with an excellent CV and background. He’s played much higher up the pyramid but also knows these levels too.

Welcome to Bury: Courtney Meppen-Walter
We can confirm the signing of defender Courtney Meppen-Walter from Nantwich Town for an undisclosed fee.
The 30-year-old began his football journey in the Manchester City Academy. Capable of playing as a central defender or defensive midfielder, he featured prominently for the club’s Under-21 side and earned recognition at international level, representing England at Under-17 and Under-18, where he served as captain.
In 2013, he signed for Carlisle United, making 42 appearances across League One and League Two during his time at Brunton Park.
After leaving Carlisle in 2016, Meppen-Walter joined Ashton United before moving to Chorley, where he played 38 games. His career then took him to Stockport County, where he featured in 27 matches, followed by a season at Glossop North End, scoring 12 goals in 50 appearances.
He rejoined Chorley in 2018, adding 76 appearances and six goals to his tally over two seasons, before transferring to AFC Telford United in 2020. His spell there was brief, with just seven games, before he joined Radcliffe and later Guiseley.
December of last year saw him head to Nantwich Town, joining initially on loan before making it permanent. He made 18 appearances in his first season, with an additional 14 coming this campaign. He’s also netted twice this season. Courtney will be available for selection for Friday’s game at Chadderton.
There is no escaping from the realities of Courtney’s history and the club are fully aware of this. We recognise the impact this signing has on the values of our community club, but also recognise the continued rehabilitation path that Courtney is on and there are avenues for both club and player to work towards in assisting with this.
In meeting with Courtney during his signing process, the board have stressed the importance of club staff being able to appropriately represent the club, both on and off the pitch. Courtney has stressed his willingness to work with the club on intitatives that help promote people making good choices which positively enhance future decisions.
We will be working with Courtney in the coming days and weeks to develop the ideas behind these initiatives, and will provide an update to supporters on this when defined.

Welcome to Bury: Mitch Allen
We are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Mitch Allen.
The 24-year-old joins the club after leaving Prescot Cables earlier this month.
He started out in the Stoke City academy aged 8 progressing right through the ranks to their Under 18’s side.
After leaving Stoke in July 2018 he went into play for Stratford Town, Buxton & Prescot Cables where he spent four years until recently.
Mitch was apart of the team that won the playoffs with Cables last season as well as winning goalkeeper of the season in the NPL West.
He will provide cover and competition for Tom Stewart. Tom has some work commitments coming up over the next few weeks which will mean he misses a few games, so it was imperative that we had a top class goalkeeper to provide cover.
Mitch told buryfc.co.uk after signing: “Delighted to be signing for Bury, such a massive club with great ambitions, can’t wait to get going and to hopefully help the club gain promotion.”
Manager, Dave McNabb added: “Mitch has proved himself to be one of the best keepers in the NPL over the last few years. He’s an exceptional shot stopper with the ability to make match winning saves. Mitch’s distribution is another one of his outstanding qualities with the ability to turn defence to attack in the blink of an eye.”

Welcome to our new Bury FC Website!
The launch of a new website for a new start.
Since the results of the amalgamation vote were confirmed in May, with a resounding percentage of the support wanting to see football being played out of Gigg Lane in 2023/24 and following yesterday’s announcement that the name Bury Football Club can be used also, the media groups across the two separate entities have come together for a ‘New Start’ for football in the town of Bury.
A fundamental part of spreading this message will be centred on our media output, with this website being a base for all of this. Wherever you are following from, make sure you keep it here for all your club updates.
In readiness for the switch of name back to Bury Football Club, we are delighted to be back on the familiar buryfc.co.uk domain.
There will be further updates to all areas in the coming weeks, where we will add access to season tickets, match fixtures and tables, on-line shop, history, contacts pages and membership logins. Please be patient while these changes are put into action. We look forward to bringing these to you as the new season draws closer.
On social media, the teams have also worked hard to secure previous account details, which in some cases had either become dormant or unrecoverable post-2019. We have utilised these where possible and brought a consistent approach to the account names, with our men’s and women’s sides represented separately, where this works for covering each respective matchday output.

White Ribbon Day – Committed to ending men’s violence against women and girls
Working with Bury Council and Bury Community Safety Partnership, at Bury Football Club we are committed to ending men’s violence against women and girls, by working to foster positive culture change. This White Ribbon Day we support White Ribbon UK’s campaign to encourage men to become allies to create a more equal society.
To mark the end of Bury council’s 16 day campaign we will be holding a White Ribbon Weekend at the club, across our Men’s & Women’s games against Colne and FC United of Manchester on the weekend of Saturday 7th December & Sunday 8th December respectively.
Violence against women and girls is rooted in harmful masculine traits. Starting with men, we must address the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a fear of violence for women in their day-to-day lives.
We’re encouraging men to hold themselves accountable to women and to each other, so we can affect positive behaviour change to transform harmful cultures and commit to the White Ribbon promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women.
70% of women in the UK say they have experienced sexual harassment in public. (APPG for UN Women, 2021) 3 in 5 women have experienced sexual harassment, bullying or verbal abuse in the workplace. (Trade Unions Congress, 2023) 15% of women in England, and 17% of women in Wales have experienced online violence. (Professor Olga Jurasz, The Open University, 2024) 1.4 million women experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2023. (ONS, 2023) 63% of men agree that men in society aren’t doing enough to ensure the safety of women and girls. (YouGov, 2021) Being a White Ribbon Ambassador or Champion is an effective and meaningful way for everyone to actively demonstrate commitment to ending men’s violence against women and girls.
White Ribbon Ambassadors are men and people who identify as a man who take on this responsibility. They take the White Ribbon message into their workplaces, communities and among their friends, family and colleagues.
White Ribbon Champions are women, and people who do not identify as being a man, who promote the White Ribbon message and encourage and challenge men to get involved by finding opportunities to inspire and inform. Our Champions can hold us to account and ensure that women’s voices are heard in our work. For more information and to become an ambassador or champion click here.
Any concerns of criminality, violence and harm can be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 1111 or report online.
Make a difference to ensure everyone enjoys the beautiful game and in every walk of life harmful behaviours are called out and tackled.

Women’s FA Cup tie to take place at Gigg Lane
After last weekend’s FA Cup tie was called off against Radcliffe Women at Unsworth Cricket Club, we can confirm the rearranged tie will take place at Gigg Lane this Sunday (8th October). 2pm kick-off.
Entry will be £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, fans will be seated in the Main Stand.
Turnstiles will be open from 1pm and it will be pay on the day only, no pre-sale tickets will be available.
Manager Jason Jarrett told us, “We are really looking forward to welcoming Radcliffe in this FA Cup game and even more so now that it will be played at Gigg Lane. This is a massive opportunity for both teams to play in the oldest cup competition in the World and to showcase their abilities to a wider audience on a bigger stage.
“After a positive pre-season, we’ve had a challenging start to the league campaign. As a coaching team, we have been trying to challenge the girls with new ideas and formations to improve us collectively and individually but this takes time and it resulted in us having a tough start to the season but we also know that we deserved to take much more from most of the games and have only narrowly missed out on points against teams like Tranmere Rovers, Blackburn Community and West Didsbury. Playing on a bigger pitch will hopefully suit our style of play and I’m sure the professional surroundings of Gigg Lane will inspire our girls to play to the best of their abilities.
“In our last performance, a confident and dominant 4-1 league win over Blackpool, we started to show what we are capable of and we will be looking to build on that result this weekend, plus with a couple of new additions over the next few weeks we believe we are heading in the right direction.”
Casey Lynchey, head of women’s football at Bury FC added, “We would like to thank everyone involved in getting this game played at Gigg Lane this weekend. Both teams were disappointed not to play last week and will be looking forward to the prospect of facing National League opposition, in the next round, whilst also showing what a vast array of talented female footballers we have in the borough. I’m sure this will be a really entertaining match that will be played in the right spirit and we would urge people to come down and show their support for both teams.”
We’d like to see as many fans at Gigg Lane as possible on Sunday afternoon for what is a big FA Cup tie!

Our Women’s first team start the season tonight against Salford City Lionesses. In the opening game of the season the girls will look to start the campaign under Jason Jarrett as they mean to go on.
Last week Salford were beaten 1-0 in a tough away opener against Tranmere Rovers. Salford endured a tough 2023/24 season finishing 10th in the North West Women’s Regional League (same division as Bury) picking up just 7 points fewer than Wednesday’s opponents, Bury.
In the sides most recent meeting it was Bury who came out on top with a convincing 4-0 victory in April in what was the side’s final match of the season. Early in the season, in Bury’s home fixture, Salford produced a second-half masterclass to earn a 5-0 win.
Amongst the summer signings to strengthen squad depth ahead of the new campaign include 16-year-old, latest arrival Leah Costello Eastwood, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jordan Harding and 16-year-old forward Natalie Ainsworth who has looked like a confident goal scorer in pre-season.
Why not come down and support the girls at St Ambrose Barlow RC High School where this match against Salford will be taking place.
We hope to see you there tonight for what should be an interesting fixture that we hope Bury can come out on top of.
