    1. Fixture Updates – September 2024

We have several fixture updates to update you on following our progression in recent cup competitions.

Our originally scheduled league game for Saturday 24th August away at Litherland REMYCA, which had to be moved due to both teams being in FA Vase action, will now take place on Wednesday 30th October.

On Saturday 31st August, we were due to travel to Charnock Richard but our FA Cup tie at Garforth saw this postponed, this game will now take place on Tuesday 22nd October.

Next Saturday (28th September) we had a scheduled league game against FC St Helens which was postponed due to our FA Cup tie with Radcliffe. This has been re-arranged for Saturday 5th November.

Following yesterday’s FA Vase win against Burscough – our game against Charnock Richard at Gigg Lane on Saturday 19th October will now be postponed. A new date will be announced in due course.

    2. Floodlights work begins next month

In a recent, FSSB statement it was confirmed that we would be undertaking some work on our floodlights.

We can confirm that this work will begin on November 19th. The works will not effect any of the footballing operations at the stadium, with all fixtures & pitch bookings going ahead as normal.

Midstream Lighting will be the company behind the works, they’re leading designer and manufacturer of advanced, robust, LED lighting solutions for the aviation, sports, maritime, and horticultural industries around the world.

The company creates purpose-built lighting solutions to meet the highest quality standards and regulations of each region they are deployed in.

LED bulbs will be installed, which will allow us to dim the floodlights to suit the situation, allowing us to save energy.

We will be operating at 500 Lux for our men’s first team matches, which is compatible with floodlighting requirements for the EFL.

For other fixtures will be operating at 250 Lux, and for pitch rental 200 Lux.

James Brunt, Midstream Lighting’s Director of Sports said: “This upgrade will enhance the matchday experience for players and fans alike, ensuring brighter, more efficient lighting for every game.

“Midstream Lighting are looking forward to bringing this project to life and supporting the club’s journey up the leagues.”

    5. Four More Incoming

With the 2023/24 season just a week away, we are able to confirm FOUR more players that will be pulling on a Shakers shirt this season.
These players have played throughout the pre-season campaign and are looking to cement their positions as the season unfolds.
First-up is tricky winger, Sajjad Elhassan. The 23-year-old was signed by Andy Welsh at the back end of last season, from Trafford on dual registration having recently been playing at Maine Road in Division One South.

Saj scored the first Men’s goal at Gigg Lane since 2019 in the friendly against 1874 Northwich on July 11th, which is one of two goals he’s scored in pre-season.
Defender Jack Tinning has played at centre-back and full-back throughout pre-season and his versatility will be seen throughout the competitive campaign.

He joined Bury AFC last October from Witton Albion.
The 25-year-old was in Warrington Rylands FA Vase winning team as well as both their NWCFL and subsequent NPL West Division promotion squads.
Earlier in his career Jack was on a schoolboy contract at Oldham Athletic. His other former clubs include FC United of Manchester, Abbey Hey, Padiham & 1874 Northwich.
Young midfielder Anton Smith signed for Andy Welsh last summer following his departure from Salford City.

Anton is a product of Burnley’s Academy and has been on loan at City of Liverpool, Prescot Cables and Atherton Collieries.
He’s also known to have a goal in his locker as was seen against Hyde United.
And finally, goalkeeper Jack Hewitt-Hill will be battling for the number 1 shirt this season alongside Atkinson.

Born in Bradford, the 21-year-old had his first around a team in the National League System last season, having online previously played Sunday league football.
He’s worked closely with goalkeeper coach Spencer Harrison to develop his game.

    9. Fundraiser: Operation Palma

One of the stars of the season has without a doubt been Darius Palma. He’s arguably been our top performer so far.
Unfortunately, the shoulder injury he sustained first at Wythenshawe Town, and then more seriously at Padiham requires surgery. Paying for this privately should see him back by January, but it’s unlikely we will see him back this season without private medical care.
The cost of the surgery is £8,000, which is way beyond the entire season’s medical care budget for the club. The club is supporting Darius’ bid to fund this himself and asking supporters to contribute where they can to a fundraiser to get him the treatment he needs.
Darius is extremely grateful to everyone for the support he’s received this season from Bury fans, and hopes to get out on the pitch to represent the club as soon as possible.

    12. Game Off

The frost has beaten us this weekend and Longridge have advised us that the game is to be postponed.

Assuming Ramsbottom’s cup game is postponed (they expect it to be but the ref needs to confirm this) our fixture against them on 9th December will be re-arranged. It does leave this date free for both us and Longridge Town, so we are expecting to play tomorrow’s fixture on that date. This is subject to league approval and more details will follow.

Keep across our social media profiles for the latest updates, the links to each are at the bottom of this email.

    15. GAME OFF: Pilkington

Tonight’s game at Gigg Lane against Pilkington has been called off as the pitch is waterlogged.

Persistent spells of rain throughout the day have put paid to the game, with the ground staff facing a battle to manage the amount of rain, on top of an already saturated playing surface, which left standing water in many areas.

Tickets will be held over to the re-arranged game and we will be in touch once we know when that is.

    16. GAME OFF: Ramsbottom United (H)

Once again, the weather has beaten us and this has resulted in a postponement of tonight’s fixture against Ramsbottom United at Gigg Lane.

After last week’s freezing temperatures and increased levels in rainfall, with first Storm Isha over the weekend and the incoming Storm Jocelyn from today, has left large volumes of water sat on top of the Gigg Lane turf, after being in good condition only this morning following a dry spell on Monday.

An early afternoon inspection was called when there was no sign that the water was draining away and rain continued to fall.

A new date will be confirmed in due course, and tickets will be valid for the rearranged fixture.
        Next Up: Skelmersdale United (H)

    18. GAME OFF: Ramsbottom United (H)

The Gigg Lane pitch today We are sad to report that following heavy down pours overnight, our game with Ramsbottom United due to take place this evening, has once again succumbed to the weather.

A local referee was called in this afternoon when concerns were raised about the surface when reviewed this morning, despite clearer weather forecast.

It has been no secret that the pitch at Gigg Lane has suffered considerably through the wet winter period. There have been regular postponements within this time, with water often sat on the surface and the pitch struggling to drain without the benefit of a long period to dry out.

The effort to get games on has been considerable, with ground staff working up against it on many occassions. Playing two home games over the last Tuesday and Saturday, has led to significant deterioration. The rain falling during the game on Saturday, as well as the significant down pours overnight have left the surface unplayable.

Works to improve the surface between now and our next game on Easter Saturday are ongoing. We are all praying for less rain at the same time!

Another new date for this fixture will be confirmed in due course, and tickets will be valid for the rearranged fixture.

    19. GAME OFF: Women’s FA Cup vs. Radcliffe

This afternoon’s Women’s FA Cup Second Qualifying Round tie against Radcliffe has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The amount of rain sustained in the last few days has resulted in a large amount of standing water in key areas of the playing surface (as pictured right).

Today’s match referee made a pitch inspection a short time ago and determined that today’s game couldn’t go ahead.

The tie will be re-arranged for next Sunday (8th October), with more details to follow in due course.

    25. Get Involved: Your Club, Volunteer Your Time

The 2023/2024 season was an eventful one from start to finish. Through the highs and lows, one thing has been consistent – the volunteers who dedicate themselves week-in, week-out have been at the heart of everything we have done as a club.

Whether it be working to look after the ground during the week, operating the turnstiles, selling Pound For The Ground raffle tickets, or helping clear the stands on match days, you’ve done us proud and you represent everything that is special about our club. For all of your hard work, we thank you.

In the off-season, thoughts turn to next time around and we need to ensure we continue to have a strong pool of volunteers to help run the club on matchdays. Both Men’s & Women’s sides will be running out of Gigg Lane next season, so as many volunteers as possible will be needed. Details of how you can get involved in 2024/25 are below.
        Join The Team

Please note this date is for new volunteers only.

At a follow-up day on Saturday 13th July, we will have a team of our current volunteers to dive into the specifics of each role and what we will be expecting you to do at each game.
Volunteer Coordinator, Samantha Harman said: “Being a volunteer for Bury FC is great fun and so rewarding knowing we are giving something back to the club we love.

“We are currently recruiting for various roles that would fit anyone.

“If you feel you could make a difference for your club then I would 100% advise you to get involved.”

Having a strong group of volunteers means that we can give our fans the most welcoming matchday experience every week, and helps to keep our costs down leading to a fully sustainable club long-term. Ideally, you will be able to commit to helping out at every home match, but whatever time you’re able to give will be gratefully accepted, and we want you to come and chat with us to give you a chance to see how you can help.

If you want to be #PartofIt with the club for the 2024/2025 season, fill out the form below and we look forward to welcoming you to the session at Gigg Lane on Saturday 6th July!
