Match Info: Glossop North End (H), Saturday 29th July, 3pm KO
It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for – men’s football returning to Gigg Lane for the first time in four years! By the time Saturday comes around it will have been 1,547 days since Bury FC’s last competitive fixture at Gigg Lane – a 1-1 draw against Port Vale. Jordan Rossiter scored the last competitive goal that day, but who will score the next? Hopefully we’ll find out this weekend… This match information pack is designed to offer you all the information you need ahead of what will be a historic afternoon. In Opposition – Glossop North End The club was founded in 1886 and joined the North Cheshire League four years later. Glossop spent two seasons each in The Combination and the Midland League, before moving to North Road and being elected into the Football League Second Division in 1898. Having been promoted in the 1898–99 season, they spent one season in the First Division. During this period the club was bankrolled by Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. The club retains some connections with Arsenal. Glossop were relegated in 1900 and spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, before exiting the Football League during World War I. Post-war, they spent 1920 to 1957 in the Manchester League, being crowned champions in 1927–28. They moved from the Lancashire Combination back to the Manchester League in 1966, and then spent four seasons in the Cheshire County League from 1978 before the North West Counties was formed in 1982 in which Glossop were founder members, they had a 33-year stint in the league before winning the Premier Division title at the end of the 2014–15 campaign. They were beaten finalists in the FA Vase in 2009 and 2015. In April 2023 GNE were relegated from Step 4 after a period of eight years, ending manager Stuart Mellish’s two-year stint at the helm. Michael Worthington was appointed as manager in the summer of 2023 as the Hillmen head into their first season back in the NWCFL. Tickets Tickets are now on sale for Saturday’s game against Glossop North End! Buy Tickets HERE We are able to operate at full capacity in the South Stand & East Stand (Cemetery End). These two stands alone give us a capacity of well over 5,000. The Manchester Road End will remain closed. We are awaiting confirmation on what capacity the North (Main) Stand can operate at, but we know it will not be at full capacity, so we have elected to put tickets for the South Stand on sale now rather than delay sales further. We are at capacity in the 1885 Suite after strong season ticket sales for that space so are unable to offer further hospitality tickets for this game. For now, we will make the South Stand ticket only, and leave the Cemetery End as the pay-on-the-turnstile option. This makes it far easier to manage numbers for our volunteer turnstile operators. Season ticket holders may choose any available stand. Should the South Stand look like it will sell out then we will release tickets for the Cemetery End also, by which time we should have more information on the Main Stand numbers. We know this will be a well-attended game and many supporters will want to guarantee their place by purchasing a ticket in advance. Tickets are strictly unreserved seating ONLY. Tickets Now Available For Opening League Fixture
We are now able to confirm ticketing for this Saturday’s fixture against Glossop North End. We are able to operate at full capacity in the South Stand & East Stand (Cemetery End). These two stands alone give us a capacity of well over 5,000. The Manchester Road End will remain closed. We are awaiting confirmation on what capacity the North (Main) Stand can operate at, but we know it will not be full capacity, so we have elected to put tickets for the South Stand on sale now rather than delay sales further. We know this will be a well attended game and many supporters will want to guarantee their place by purchasing a ticket in advance. We know this is a little more complicated than is ideal, but this game in particular will be especially well attended so we want to offer an advance ticket option rather than leave anything to chance. We do anticipate future games will be easier to manage as we will understand better where season ticket holders prefer to sit and will have plenty of room to accommodate everyone. We strongly recommend purchasing a ticket in advance to avoid disappointment and queues. It also helps us plan our resources better. We’d like to thank Bury Council amongst others for their help and support in opening up the stadium to greater numbers to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the occasion. Tickets are now on sale, click here to purchase yours ahead of a historic occasion on Saturday. Be #ShakersTogether, Be #PartOfIt, Be #BuryFC for 2023/24. View the full article

Pre-Season: Nelson (A), Tuesday 25th July, 7:45pm KO
Our final game of pre-season is an away trip to Nelson on Tuesday evening. Andy Welsh will be using this game as a final view of his players before the league campaign starts on Saturday against Glossop North End at Gigg Lane. Our final home pre-season game against Golcar United, gave us a 4-2 victory goals coming from a Benito Lowe brace, Andy Briggs & Sajjad Elhassan. In Opposition – Nelson The origins of Nelson FC can be traced to a group of townspeople who in 1881, on witnessing a local football match between Burnley and Blackburn, were inspired to form their own team. As a club, Nelson have a rich vain of history, in the mid 1920s they beat both Manchester United & Real Madrid away from home in the same season. In 1982, they became founders members of the North West Counties League and have been members ever since, apart from a four year hiatus from 1988-1992, as there ground didn’t meet league standards. The club’s most memorable season in recent years would be the 2013/24 season, when manager Mark Fell brought long awaited success back to the town, a first league title in 62 years. His side scored a remarkable 157 goals in 45 games and won the NWCFL Division One by 5 clear points. Tickets Tuesday’s fixture is PAY ON THE DAY, no tickets have been sold in advance. CASH ONLY on the gate. Prices: £5 for Adults, £3 for concessions (over-65, Students & registered disabled) and £1 for Under-15s On the Day & In the Ground SatNav Postcode: BB9 7BN WhatThreeWords: ///seemingly.champions.towel Parking: There is parking along Lomeshaye Way which is the road where the ground is located. It can get busy so you could see a 5/10-minute walk to the ground if busy. Disability Access: Nelson doesn’t have allocated disabled parking however can offer access parking inside the ground walls which we can use as parking and access for the disabled, it would just mean cars would be parked behind the goals. Food / Drink: The club serves sausage rolls, pies, standard hotdogs, hot and cold drinks and alcohol in cans. A card machine is available at the kiosk but can be affected by signal issues, so cash is the safest option. Matchday Programme: TBC #NonLeagueDogs: Dogs are welcome. With the 2023/24 season just a week away, we are able to confirm FOUR more players that will be pulling on a Shakers shirt this season. These players have played throughout the pre-season campaign and are looking to cement their positions as the season unfolds. First-up is tricky winger, Sajjad Elhassan. The 23-year-old was signed by Andy Welsh at the back end of last season, from Trafford on dual registration having recently been playing at Maine Road in Division One South. Saj scored the first Men’s goal at Gigg Lane since 2019 in the friendly against 1874 Northwich on July 11th, which is one of two goals he’s scored in pre-season. Defender Jack Tinning has played at centre-back and full-back throughout pre-season and his versatility will be seen throughout the competitive campaign. He joined Bury AFC last October from Witton Albion. The 25-year-old was in Warrington Rylands FA Vase winning team as well as both their NWCFL and subsequent NPL West Division promotion squads. Earlier in his career Jack was on a schoolboy contract at Oldham Athletic. His other former clubs include FC United of Manchester, Abbey Hey, Padiham & 1874 Northwich. Young midfielder Anton Smith signed for Andy Welsh last summer following his departure from Salford City. Anton is a product of Burnley’s Academy and has been on loan at City of Liverpool, Prescot Cables and Atherton Collieries. He’s also known to have a goal in his locker as was seen against Hyde United. And finally, goalkeeper Jack Hewitt-Hill will be battling for the number 1 shirt this season alongside Atkinson. Open Training Session huge success
Last Thursday’s Open Training Session at Gigg Lane was a huge success with over 500 local children attending. The queues began around 90 minutes before gates opened with every child looking to get their hands on one of the 100 free season tickets available. At the time the gates opened, the queue stretched the length of the car park from the Cemetery End entrance towards the South Stand. The free season tickets were like gold dust, and most were snapped up within minutes of the start of the session. Andy Welsh’s squad trained for around an hour under the evening sun, following the session the players took photos and signed autographs with fans. Our Women’s first team were also in attendance, they too had photos and gave autographs in the crowd. A number of raffle prizes including replica shirts and matchday mascot packages were given out at the end of the training session. Football Board Chair, Marcel de Matas said: “The open training session, exceeded expectations, with 500 children in attendance alongside their parents, many visiting Gigg Lane for the first time. There was a real buzz about the ground, with children eager to interact with the players and obtain signed shirts and footballs. “This event truly exemplified the excitement and enthusiasm for the return of football to Gigg Lane, and hopefully shows the potential interest from young people in watching their local team. “It’s now critical that we build upon these strong foundations, ensuring that we continue to engage the wider Bury community, whilst growing a fan base fit for the future.” View the full article

New Women’s Manager: Jason Jarrett
Bury Football Club are delighted to confirm that Jason Jarrett has been appointed manager of our Women’s first team. Jarrett was appointed interim manager last month but has now taken the role on a permanent basis. Speaking to buryfc.co.uk about the appointment he said: “It was quite an easy decision. I thought I would give myself a bit of time to think about it because it’s a big commitment, but just being in and around the girls and working with Gaz & Dave who are going to be my assistants and working with Casey as well it just felt right. I’m really excited to get going. Dave Heaney & Gary Pratt will join Jason’s coaching staff as his assistant managers, with Kelly Boag continuing in her role as goalkeeper coach. Dave had a brief spell as a youth player at Bury in the early 1990s and featured in a fixture against Manchester City. He’s also been involved in local grassroots football in Bury over the last 30 years as a player, coach, manager & chairman. Gary played alongside Jason during his grassroots football days at Roach Dynamos Juniors and is a lifelong Bury fan. He’s been involved in the Women’s game for the last eight years with Manchester Football Dreams in which he’s seen treble-winning success last season. Both Dave and Gary are excited to get started. “We’re both proud and super excited to get the opportunity to work alongside local Bury legend Jason Jarrett and hopefully together we can help Bury FC Women continue with their success.” Head of Women’s Football, Casey Lynchey added: “We have a really strong management team in place, who are already making an impact with the team. “We know this season is going to be more challenging than the previous two, but we have a strong team to further build upon and we have had some really exciting trialists down in pre-season too. There’s a real buzz around the place and the result against FC United last Sunday really lifted spirits too. “This Sunday sees us host Bradford Women at Unsworth Cricket Club and we know it will be a challenging game but we are all looking forward to it and would love to get a good support down to watch.” View the full article

After a busy weekend with friendlies against Bradford City & Preston North End, we’ll do it all again tomorrow evening as we welcome 1874 Northwich to Gigg Lane. There was more in the way of goal opportunities for our forward line, but North End went away with a 2-0 victory.
