  2. Dave McNabb’s side come into Saturday’s game away at Chadderton with a full week of training behind them after last weekend’s emphatic win away at Barnoldswick Town. A squad made up of mainly Under 23s featured in Tuesday night’s Manchester Cup tie away at Glossop North End, which ended 2-0 to the oppositions. Shakeel Jones-Griffiths & Lewis Gilboy also featured in the squad for the midweek trip, giving them both an opportunity to step up into a senior role. In Opposition – Chadderton The club was established in 1946 as Burnley Lane Estate Juniors and initially played in the Middleton Youth League. The following year the club moved to Mill Brow, started an adult team and were renamed Millbrow Football Club. After moving again the club was renamed North Chadderton Amateurs. At the time, the club played in the Oldham Amateur League, winning its Challenge Cup in 1954–55. They moved up to the Manchester Amateur League, winning the North division in 1955–56 and adopting their current name in 1957. At the end of the 1958–59 season Chadderton were promoted to Division One. They were Division One champions in 1962–63, and also started playing in Division Two of the Manchester League. They were runners-up in Division Two in both 1962–63 and 1963–64, before winning the division in 1964–65. However, they were not promoted.[5] The division was renamed Division One in 1966 and Chadderton were champions again in 1966–67, after which they were promoted to the Premier Division. In 1980 Chadderton moved up to the Lancashire Combination. When the league merged with the Cheshire County League in 1982 to form the North West Counties League, Chadderton were founder members of Division Two. A third-place finish in 1988–89 saw them promoted to Division One. However, they finished bottom of Division One the following season and were relegated back to Division Two. Despite only finishing eleventh in 1991–92, the club were promoted to Division One again. They played in Division One until being demoted at the end of the 1997–98 season due to failing ground grading requirements. Division Two was renamed Division One in 2008. A sixth-place finish in 2014–15 season saw Chadderton qualify for the promotion play-offs. However, they lost 2–1 to AFC Darwen in the semi-finals. In 2018 the club were placed in Division One North when the league gained another division. In 2022–23 they were runners-up in Division One North, qualifying for the play-offs. In the semi-finals they beat Euxton Villa on penalties after a 1–1 draw, before going on to defeat FC St Helens on penalties in the final (after another 1–1 draw), earning promotion to the Premier Division. 5. Bury Football Club can announce the arrival of a further two additions, as midfielder Billy Reeves and defender Tom Moore joined this week following their free transfer from Bootle. Both players joined McNabb at Bootle in the summer, alongside other new players Andy Scarisbrick and Charlie Doyle, and bring in significant experience from their time in the Northern Premier League. Billy Reeves in action for Bootle – photo: Will Griffiths Reeves, 26, was in the Port Vale academy structure as a youth, playing for Witton Albion, Hyde United and Stafford Rangers in separate spells on loan before being released at Vale Park. Continuing in non-league, the energetic midfielder found a home at Leek Town from 2018, playing over 130 times over a five-year period before making the move to Bootle this year. Tom Moore – photo: Will Griffiths 24-year-old Tom Moore arrives to bolster central defence. Previously playing for Marine, Droylsden and Widnes – Tom joined Connah’s Quay Nomads in 2021, scoring in a UEFA Conference League qualifying round whilst with the Nomads. Spending last season at Runcorn Linnets, he joined McNabb at New Bucks Park in July – featuring consistently so far this season. The manager gave buryfc.co.uk his thoughts on the latest additions: “I’m really pleased to get Tom and Billy in. I’ve worked with both players before and they both know and understand the standards and expectations that are required. “I feel that both Tom and Billy will really add to the group and are both still capable of improving and I believe they will grow with the club.” Both Billy and Tom go into contention for the weekend, as we head to Chadderton. 7. The club are sad to report that Jimmy Moore has informed us that he is hanging up his boots with immediate effect. Jimmy arrived in Bury in 2020, amassing 85 appearances and six goals, as well as captaining the side on occassion. His passion and strength key assets to the Andy Welsh side that was promoted as champions from NWCFL Division One North in 2021-22. Returning to the side in recent weeks, Jimmy has been involved in our resurgence at the top of the league, capping off his career with a goal and a clean sheet in his last game, Saturday’s 7-0 win at Barnoldswick Town. Moore has cited recent changes, both personally and professionally, as reasons for turning his attention away from playing. We caught up Jimmy, who wanted to thank the club, and of course, the fans, for their great support: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my time at the club. Playing for Bury has been an honour, and I am extremely proud to have represented your club.” Manager Dave McNabb was also disappointed to be losing an experienced head from the squad, wishing Jimmy well for his future out of the game: “Jimmy’s going to be a big loss to the team, the changing room and the club as a whole. He’s been a leader on and off the pitch and I’d like to thank him for everything he’s done to help since I came into the club. “Jimmy’s decision did come as a surprise on Monday evening but we’ve got to respect his decision and use this as an opportunity to celebrate the great player he’s been for the club.” We want to wish Jimmy all the very best as his playing career comes to a close, he will be fondly remembered by many and welcome back at Gigg Lane at any time. Once a Shaker, Always a Shaker. Go well, Jimmy! View the full article
  8. It’s just 10 days since our last trip to Surrey Street in Glossop, this time it’s the turn of the Frank Hannah Manchester Premier Cup. Dave McNabb confirmed in his post-match interview (below) on Saturday that a squad of Under 23s will make up the squad, under the management of Leon Mike & Stephen Sheil. It gives McNabb an opportunity to be able to see the younger players in the club. Saturday saw an emphatic 7-0 away win at Barnoldswick (highlights below), which saw six different scorers. The pick of the bunch, being Connor Comber’s thunder strike, which may well be a goal of the season contender. In Opposition – Glossop North End The club was founded in 1886 and joined the North Cheshire League four years later. Glossop spent two seasons each in The Combination and the Midland League, before moving to North Road and being elected into the Football League Second Division in 1898. Having been promoted in the 1898–99 season, they spent one season in the First Division. During this period the club was bankrolled by Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. The club retains some connections with Arsenal. Glossop were relegated in 1900 and spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, before exiting the Football League during World War I. Post-war, they spent 1920 to 1957 in the Manchester League, being crowned champions in 1927–28. They moved from the Lancashire Combination back to the Manchester League in 1966, and then spent four seasons in the Cheshire County League from 1978 before the North West Counties was formed in 1982 in which Glossop were founder members, they had a 33-year stint in the league before winning the Premier Division title at the end of the 2014–15 campaign. They were beaten finalists in the FA Vase in 2009 and 2015. In April 2023 GNE were relegated from Step 4 after a period of eight years, ending manager Stuart Mellish’s two-year stint at the helm. Michael Worthington was appointed as manager in the summer of 2023 as the Hillmen head into their first season back in the NWCFL. 12. Bury Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder, Jordan Butterworth. Jordan joins the Shakers from Northern Premier League side, Bamber Bridge. His previous clubs include Mossley and Chadderton and he was a member of the first ever quadruple winning Curzon Ashton Youth Team in 2016/17, having previously been part of the academies at Manchester United and Oldham Athletic. He becomes the fourth signing under Dave McNabb, following Oli Jepson, Charlie Doyle & Andy Scarisbrick into the club. We asked the gaffer about his new man, and he said: “Jordan is a fantastic player who’s technically outstanding and so versatile. He will be a great addition to the squad.” Welcome to Bury, Jordan. We can’t wait to see you turn out in white and blue. View the full article

  14. They love a debut goal the Jepsons. It was the opening game of the 96/97 season when Stan Ternant’s new signing Ronnie Jepson scored in a home draw against Brentford. This past Tuesday, over 27 years since that one all draw, Ronnies son Oli Jepson scored a peach of a header in front of the home fans on his Shakers Debut. Oli wasn’t the only one to find the back of the net with Benito Lowe bagging a brace (Anyone else been singing that song ever since?) and Connor Comber finding the top bins from twenty yards out, rounding off a 4 – 2 win and phenomenal second half display from Dave McNabbs men in white. You can watch the highlights from this game below. With teams around us either stumbling or not playing The Shakers find ourselves at the top of the league as we approach the weekend and coming into a vein of form having won in four of our last five games. With that in mind we travel to Barnoldswick this coming Saturday to take on another in form team at the Silent Night Stadium. All the information you will require for your trip to Barlick is available below. In Opposition – Barnoldswick Town Formed in 1972 and named Barnoldswick United(1972) – so called due to being canny Yorkshiremen- had there been a previous club named Barnoldswick United and they had outstanding debts the new club would have been liable for them. The field started out as a grazing meadow for cattle, after a lot of hard work, it is now the pitch we play on. The club had 2 teams playing in the Craven & District Football League, in the early 1990’s we joined the East Lancashire Football League again with 2 teams. In the late 1990’s we had 3 teams our 1st & 2nd team teams joined The West Lancashire Football League, our 3rds staying in The East Lancashire League. The 2003/2004 season brought the amalgamation of Barnoldswick United (1972), Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and we changed our name to Barnoldswick Town Football Club. It has always been in the club’s constitution to get our ground up to the minimum standards of The North West Counties Football League and the 2009/2010 season saw us accepted into The North West Counties Football League. Alongside our main pitch we have a floodlit training pitch. Our club house can hold up to 100 people and be hired out for functions. Our main sponsor is Silentnight Beds Ltd and the ground is named The Silentnight Stadium. In 2009/2010 our first season in The NWCFL saw us finish runners up in Division 1 and finalists in the prestigious West Riding County Cup beating Guiseley who won promotion to the Conference North along the way. It was an interesting season as we only expected to hold our own and try to make sure we didn’t end up at the bottom of the league. Following on from our success in the 2009/2010 season we went from just looking to avoid relegation in the Premier Division 2010/2011 to astound ourselves by finishing a creditable 7th in the league, only suspensions and injuries we feel robbed us of a top three spot. In March 2012 we achieved The FA Grade E, enabling the club to enter The Evo-Stik League when finishing in a promotion position. The 2012/2013 season saw us finish 9th in the Premier Division and reaching a round further in The FA Vase. Our Reserves finishing 4th in their respective league, with players being selected for the first team squad showing we have strength and depth in the club. The 2013/14 season was a little bit traumatic for the club, players leaving or not being available, unrest in the dressing room which led to poor performances on the field. In June of 2014 we achieved Charter Standard Development Club at both Senior and Junior level, which was an excellent achievement by both Senior & Junior Committees. The season had ended on a knife edge, if results on the last day of the season had gone a different way we would have been relegated For the 2017/2018 Barnoldswick Town have one team in the Hallmark Security League and one team in The Lancashire Football League Western Division (Galaxy League). The Junior section has 21 teams in The East Lancashire League from U7’s -U18’s, plus one U12’s girls team playing in The West Riding League. They also have a Tiny Town Junior Academy for 4 – 6 year olds. Tickets This game is ticket only and tickets for the game can still be purchased HERE. 16. After last weekend’s FA Cup tie was called off against Radcliffe Women at Unsworth Cricket Club, we can confirm the rearranged tie will take place at Gigg Lane this Sunday (8th October). 2pm kick-off. Entry will be £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, fans will be seated in the Main Stand. Turnstiles will be open from 1pm and it will be pay on the day only, no pre-sale tickets will be available. Manager Jason Jarrett told us, “We are really looking forward to welcoming Radcliffe in this FA Cup game and even more so now that it will be played at Gigg Lane. This is a massive opportunity for both teams to play in the oldest cup competition in the World and to showcase their abilities to a wider audience on a bigger stage. “After a positive pre-season, we’ve had a challenging start to the league campaign. As a coaching team, we have been trying to challenge the girls with new ideas and formations to improve us collectively and individually but this takes time and it resulted in us having a tough start to the season but we also know that we deserved to take much more from most of the games and have only narrowly missed out on points against teams like Tranmere Rovers, Blackburn Community and West Didsbury. Playing on a bigger pitch will hopefully suit our style of play and I’m sure the professional surroundings of Gigg Lane will inspire our girls to play to the best of their abilities. “In our last performance, a confident and dominant 4-1 league win over Blackpool, we started to show what we are capable of and we will be looking to build on that result this weekend, plus with a couple of new additions over the next few weeks we believe we are heading in the right direction.” Casey Lynchey, head of women’s football at Bury FC added, “We would like to thank everyone involved in getting this game played at Gigg Lane this weekend. Both teams were disappointed not to play last week and will be looking forward to the prospect of facing National League opposition, in the next round, whilst also showing what a vast array of talented female footballers we have in the borough. I’m sure this will be a really entertaining match that will be played in the right spirit and we would urge people to come down and show their support for both teams.” We’d like to see as many fans at Gigg Lane as possible on Sunday afternoon for what is a big FA Cup tie! 21. On a rainy afternoon in the Derbyshire hills, Dave McNabb’s charges fell to a late defeat courtesy of a headed 96th minute Glossop goal. Until the goal The Shakers had held on well after being reduced to ten men following a red card for Bury wing back Gaz Peet early into the second half. In a game that could’ve gone either way in the with both teams having plenty of chances there were some bright spots in defeat including a debut goal for new man Andy Scarisbrick and a solid debut for Charlie Doyle. We now move on to Tuesday night and as we look to set the record straight and return to winning ways against Merseyside’s Litherland Remyca. You can watch Dave McNabb’s post match interview following the Glossop game below. In Opposition – Litherland Remyca Litherland REMYCA FC began life in the Seaforth area of Liverpool as St Thomas F.C. (1959). Players were recruited mainly from Seaforth and Bootle, and the team later became known as Bootle C.L.B. (Church Lads Brigade). Links were formed with Bootle YMCA which provided a club base and facilities to train. In 1967, a local working-man’s club offered to finance the running of the club. One year later, REMYCA UTD F.C. came into being, the name deriving from connections with both REM Social Club and Bootle YMCA. The team, after successive championships and earning a reputation for playing attractive football, were accepted into the I Zingari League. The founder members of REMYCA Utd, Bill and Ken Edwards, acted as managers having recently given up their playing careers. The I Zingari Challenge Cup was claimed in the 1975/76 season as REMYCA Utd began to establish itself as a force within amateur football on Merseyside. The formation of a Premier League led to the club being invited to become inaugural members. This demanded improved playing facilities and the club left its spiritual home at Moss Lane, Litherland to move to Maghull High School. A former player, Steve Smith, became manager and began building a squad capable of competing with the best amateur sides in the region. REMYCA Utd became the I Zingari League Champions in the 1987/88 season and in 1991 became one of the few Merseyside Teams to win the all Lancashire FA Amateur Cup. The 1990’s was a significant period in the club’s history, and the most successful, as both Premier League and Cup doubles were achieved in seasons 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96 followed by again winning the Challenge Cup in the 1998/99 season. This period of dominance and success resulted in REMYCA Utd seeking entry to the Liverpool County Combination League to test itself at a higher level again. REMYCA are now based at Litherland Sports Park. Our mid-long term aims are to work with local councils to identify a site and build a community facility for all sides under the REMYCA banner as well as the local area. In 2013, the Management Committee of REMYCA began exploring the potential to grow and develop the club. The aim is for a sustainable club – a community based model offering football opportunity with good coaching to all ages from seven years upwards. The first stage of the new development plan was to add Litherland to the club name so as to identify with the local area and enhance the community ethos of the club. A key appointment was Colin Begbie as head of youth development, who’s experience and network of football contacts has proven invaluable. The club then applied, and secured a league position worthy of promotion to the NWCFL in 2014. In their first season, the club finished 9th and reached the semi final of the Reusch Cup, only to be beaten by Atherton Colls. A first ever appearance in the LCFA Senior Cup saw the club beaten by Skelmersdale United. REMYCA went on to reach the semi final in three consecutive years after this defeat. In 2015, Phil Stafford was given the job as first team manager following a successful stint at Maghull. In his second season, he led the club to a thrilling battle for promotion, which culminated in defeat at the final hurdle – the playoff final. That game holds the attendance record in NWCFL history, with 1303 supporters flocking to LSP. In March 2016, the quarter final of the LCFA Senior Cup saw Everton travel to LSP and fall to a solid, containing REMYCA by a goal to nil. This game put the club on the map, and boosted their profile and reputation. Ultimately, at the end of that season, Stafford decided it was time to move on along with Andy Olsen, and, after a search for a new gaffer, Paul McNally was handed the task of leading REMYCA from the beginning of the 2017/18 season. McNally put his own stamp on the team, and under huge expectations, guided the club to its first ever promotion and the highest level of football in the history of Litherland REMYCA. Along the way, REMYCA made their first ever appearance in the FA Cup, beating AFC Liverpool 2-0 in a game live streamed across the BBC iPlayer. In a shock turn of events, McNally left the club by mutual consent at the end of 2017-18, and left the club manager-less for the second straight summer. James Olsen was chosen to be the man to take over in the summer of 2018 and lead the club in its first ever season in the NWCFL Premier Division, however departed midway through the season. Former manager Phil Stafford returned to guide the club to consolidation within the division. With Staffo’ having departed for a second time, former AFC Liverpool, Burscough and Bangor City Manager Derek Goulding was appointed in 2021 as the man to consolidate The Remy in the Premier Division for going forwards. 24. This weekend, English football at every level will unite to promote Play Safe – a national campaign to focus attention of the vital importance of safeguarding in our national game. Led by The Football Association, the Play Safe campaign is endorsed by the NSPCC and supported by every level of the game, including the Premier League, EFL, Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship, and right across the grassroots game. We are proud to be supporting Play Safe on our website and social media channels – and also by making an online Play Safe Pledge. Our pledge will see us promote PLAY SAFE on our website and social media channels. Of course, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, so if you haven’t already, why not make your own Play Safe Pledge? We encourage you to do so. “Everybody should feel safe playing the sport we love.” This year’s Play Safe weekend has two main messages: • ‘Everyone, everywhere, every time’ should have an understanding of safeguarding in football. • Everyone should ‘watch, listen, talk and act’ if they have any safeguarding concerns. If you have a safeguarding concern, or would like some advice, the person to contact at Bury Football club is welfare officer Tania Jackson. Email: safeguarding@buryfc.co.uk. Together, let’s create an ever-safer culture across the game we all love. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article
