  3. Wow! Bury go into their FA Cup preliminary round match at Avro on Saturday with confidence sky high after a thumping 7-1 league victory at Abbey Hey on Tuesday. The Shakers needed a good performance after the tame home draw against Irlam at Gigg Lane last weekend. And they lived up to their nickname with six goals in an amazing second half. The goal-fest began with a rapid-fire hat-trick in 10 minutes from Reuben Jerome, followed by goals Rustam Stepan (71), Cameron Fogarty (80) and Efe Ambrose (92). There was little warning of what was to come in the first half, when Bury’s dominance was rewarded by just one goal from Bebeto Gomes on 13 minutes. The victory keeps them just two points behind leaders Charnock Richard, and gives them a goal difference of 10 – not bad after just four league games! In Opposition – Avro Avro FC have won one and lost one of their first two games in the Northern Premier League West Division. After a 1-0 victory at home to Atherton Collieries on Saturday they lost by the same score at Wythenshawe Town on Tuesday. There was a touch of irony there, because Town were promoted last season via the NWCL premiership play-offs at Bury’s expense. This is the Oldham club’s second season in the NPL. They started life in 1936 at the Failsworth factory of aircraft builder A V Roe. The club joined the Manchester League in 1954. They were promoted to the league’s Premier Division exactly half a century later. They topped the division in 2010 and held on to the title in the following season. A big step forward came in 2017 when they left their Failsworth base and moved to a newly-built stadium in Oldham. For several years they shared the ground – now called the Vestacare Stadium – with the Oldham rugby league club. It has a 4G artificial turf pitch. In 2018, Avro were promoted to the North West Counties League Division One North, and the following year went up to the Premier Division after finishing second. Tickets Purchase your tickets in advance here This game is ALL TICKET – no pay on the day will be available. On the Day & In the Ground Travel by Train: Mainline Rail – Manchester Victoria or Moston. 5. The team at Bury Art Museum are asking for Bury FC fans to put pen to paper and write down your personal stories of why you support the Shakers. How did you come to support the club? Did your parents / grandparents support Bury? What was your first ever match? What are your best memories of supporting the Shakers? What does the club mean to you and your family? These memories and stories will be included in a booklet which will be available for everyone to read at an exhibition “Going To The Match” which will be held at the Art Museum from 4th October 2024 through to 1st March 2025. If you would like to take part, please email your stories (no longer than 350 words) in Word format before the deadline of 26th August to artgallery@bury.gov.uk The focal point of the exhibition will be LS Lowry’s masterpiece ‘Going to the Match’, the 1953 painting which depicts fans arriving for a Bolton Wanderers game at Burnden Park. The exhibition will focus on football fans and will include iconic photographs of football fans from various north-west clubs, including Bury, Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool, Oldham and Bolton. There will also be various interesting Bury FC historical and fan-related items on display at the exhibition. View the full article

  8. Ahead of tonight’s game away at Abbey Hey, Dave McNabb has issued the following update on a number of players: Brad Carroll We’ve been dealt some bad news in the last week with the scan results coming back on Brad knee injury confirming that he has a full rupture of his PCL and is likely to be out for up to 6 months. Brad has been brilliant since he came to the club, fantastic performances on the pitch and a player who is highly respected and well thought of in the changing room. Morgan Homson-Smith Morgan is out for another two weeks with an ankle injury. After a very impressive start to preseason Morgan was really unlucky to pick up the knock at Atherton LR in early July. I’m sure once he’s cleared to play he will get back to full speed pretty quickly. Jack Dunn Jack has had a tough couple of years with a serious knee injury. As expected he will pick up a few niggles and strains as he makes his way back to full fitness. Jack has been back into training this week and should be available for selection in the next week or two. We know we will have to be patient with Jack but it will certainly be worth it when we get him 100% fit and sharp. Iyrwah Gooden Iyrwah is unavailable for the next 10 days. Another who’s had a brilliant start to his life as a shaker and will no doubt be missed over the next few games. Bryan Ly Bryan will be back into full contact training this week and available for selection next weekend following a concussion. It’s been extremely frustrating to lose Bryan but there’s nothing more important than the health and wellbeing of our players and it’s a very long season ahead. Connor Comber Connor has missed a large portion of preseason due to holidays and injury. Connor trained a couple of weeks ago and managed to play in the final weekend of preseason away to Nelson but unfortunately has picked up another injury since. It’s nothing serious but painful impact injury on his knee. View the full article
  9. The Shakers have an early opportunity to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing and rather tame home draw against Irlam when they travel to Gorton to face Abbey Hey on Tuesday. Everyone around Gigg Lane had high hopes for lift-off in the first game on Bury’s new pitch. The Blue and White Army in the South Stand were in good voice, but it turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for them and for manager Dave McNabb. Bury struggled in a sluggish first half in which they went behind twice, but managed to pull back to 2-2 with a Stepan penalty – literally the last kick of the half. The performance improved after the interval, but not enough to give them victory which would have put them into the top three in the league. Still undefeated, the Shakers now face Abbey Hey. They were promoted from the NWCFL First Division South via last season’s play-offs. But they’ve had a disappointing start to their season. In Opposition – Abbey Hey Abbey Hey also had a 2-2 home draw on Saturday – against AFC Liverpool, who had beaten them 3-0 on Merseyside just eight days earlier. These results, along with two 3-0 defeats away from home by FC St Helens and Ramsbottom United, have left them in 22nd position in the league. Like so many football clubs, Abbey started life – way back in 1902 – in a church Sunday league, and over the years played in various local leagues. They were given a big boost in the 1960 by an influx of good players from a works team which had been disbanded. After playing for many years on grounds which belonged to other people, they finally achieved some security – with the help of the City Council – by acquiring their own home just 40 years ago. They joined the North West Counties Division II in 1998. Tickets Purchase your tickets in advance here (subject to booking fee) This game is ALL TICKET – no pay on the day will be available. 11. We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Cameron Fogerty The 20-year-old joins the club after leaving NPL side Witton Albion. He made 78 appearances for the club. Prior to his time in Cheshire, he came through the academy at Hyde United. Dave McNabb commented on the latest addition: “Cam is a an all action midfielder who has a bit of everything. He’s aggressive, tenacious and has a brilliant engine. He’s technically excellent and always wants to get on the ball and play forward. “Another player I’ve tried to sign on a number of occasions I’m really excited to work with Cam and help him continue to develop.” View the full article
  12. We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Lewis Alessandara The 35-year-old joins the club after playing for Hyde United this season. Born in Heywood, he came through the ranks of local side Roach Dynamos before joining Oldham Athletic. Morecambe, Plymouth, Notts County & Carlisle United are also amongst his former clubs. He made 43 appearances for Hyde United last season in the Northern Premier League. Manager, Dave McNabb commented on the signing: “Lewis Alessandra is a player who I’m sure many of the fans will be familiar with having spent much of his career in the football league. Lewis has had an unbelievable career and will add some much needed experience to the squad. “A forward player who is extremely intelligent with his movement and a real eye for goal. I was very impressed with his hunger and desire to play for Bury and fulfil an ambition that almost came true around 9 years ago.” View the full article
  13. This is it! Bury at last play on Gigg Lane’s amazing new 3G synthetic pitch at 3.00pm on Saturday. And that great old ground will be bouncing! Don’t miss it!!! Click here to get your tickets!! After seven successive away games, we look forward to a performance of high-calibre against visitors Irlam following a high-scoring start to the season. And fans will be hoping manager Dave McNabb’s line-up includes 19-year-old winger Alex Cherera, who scored a stunning hat-trick in the FA Cup last weekend. The goals played a big part in Bury’s 4-2 extra preliminary round victory at Congleton, which followed a crushing 5-1 league win at Padiham four days earlier. These successes made up for the dramatic but equally disappointing 4-4 draw at sunny Squires Gate, which kicked off our season in the NWCFL Premier Division two weekends ago. Now – after a total of seven successive away games – the team at last gets to play on that shiny new surface which has so expertly been constructed since the grass Gigg Lane pitch was ripped up in May. Come on you Shakers!!! Following Saturday’s cup win against Congleton, we caught up with Dave McNabb & Alex Cherera – you can see those interviews below alongside match highlights. In Opposition – Irlam FC Irlam FC are a good side who had a major problem with consistency last season, finishing in 13th place in the NWCPL table. In a way, however, they were consistent – 15 matches won, 15 drawn and 15 lost. On their day Irlam can beat any team in the league. But so far this term they’ve played three and lost three, scoring only twice and conceding eight times. In the corresponding match last season, Irlam lost 3-0, but they won 1-0 at the RG3 Digital Stadium in March as the Shakers hit a rocky patch. Declan Daniels, one of Bury’s scorers in the Gigg Lane game, is now on Irlam’s books. The club started life as a works team. It traces is history back to 1935, entered the national league system in 2008/09, and is rooted firmly in the Irlam community. Head here for Irlam history. 21. The take up of digital ticketing has again been a success this summer, with renewals of season tickets, match ticket, merchandise and sponsorship package purchases, as well as away ticket distribution all being processed in this way. Being able to offer this method of ticketing gives the club flexibility in ticket distribution and helps ease burden at the turnstile on a matchday, as well as offer the ability turn around event ticketing in short timeframes. It is recognised that supporters like to have a physical card to present at the turnstile and for those who ordered a season ticket ahead of the 10th July deadline, these season cards can now be collected from Gigg Lane at the times shown here. There may be many who are accessing tickets digitally for the first time. The following explainer is provided to show how your digital ticket can be accessed and how it is used to claim your purchased event or item. Accessing your ticket digitally We partner with TicketCo for online ticket distribution and encourage supporters to purchase these wherever possible, as this assists us in planning for a match day. Supporters will be able to buy tickets for all club events and programmes via this platform from the club website here. Whether you have bought a season ticket as a physical card or not, you can always get access to the games by presenting your TicketCo QR code at the turnstile for an operator to scan – this can be digitally on a smart phone or via a print out of your QR code. The QR code on a physical season card is a replica of that presented within the TicketCo app or on your TicketCo PDF receipt which was sent via either email or SMS message at the point of order. This can only be used once on each match day. You can also download the ticket to your phone’s Wallet (Android) or Passbook (iOS), by clicking on the link in you email receipt (as shown right). Download the App TicketCo also provides the option to secure all your purchased Bury FC event tickets in one place, via the TicketCo Wallet app. Examples of how this looks on your phone can be found below. You can download this app here (Android) or here (iOS). Whatever the circumstances, we have you covered. If you have any concerns, ensure you arrive early on a matchday to speak to one of our customer service volunteers who will be available to help! For queries in advance, please contact the club here. Full details on all this can be found on the TicketCo website here. Be #ShakersTogether, Be #PartOfIt, Be #BuryFC for 2024/25. View the full article

  24. Yesterday we released a video talking through the changes at Gigg Lane ahead of our first home game. We have had some enquiries about not being able to purchase tickets on the day by cash/card in the South stand. We hope you understand the reasons why we have taken this decision, however, we understand that we need to offer a solution for less able bodied /disabled supporters so we are going to open a turnstile for these people to access on the day. In addition we would like to remind supporters of the following: You can purchase tickets online for Main and South stand anytime. Although we have a new caterer, and wait times should be improved this season we want to ensure that we can manage the queues. If everyone sits in the south stand this may increase queue times at the bar. Alcohol is not served after half time in the South stand. If you have a Starkie’s pass (Available Online) you can buy alcohol during the game in Starkie’s. All fans can use Starkies for free following the final whistle, If you are sat in the main stand, you are more likely to get into Starkies before it hits capacity. We thank supporters who have given us feedback. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article
