  1. We are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of Djavan Pedro from Buxton FC for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA approval. DJ joined the Shakers on loan last month, making his debut in the away fixture at Colne. He has scored seven goals in his opening nine games. Including in three out of his opening four home games at Gigg Lane. Manager, Dave McNabb commented: “As soon as a permanent move became a possibility it was a no brainer. DJ has settled into the squad really well since joining on loan. “He’s a player we spoke to in the summer and have tracked for a number of years. “DJ can play in a number of positions and gives us even more quality at the top end of the pitch. “He’s already become a fans favourite and I’m sure he will continue to get the fans off their seats with his work rate and ability. Welcome to Bury, DJ.” View the full article
  2. Bury were outclassed on the day suffering a 4-3 defeat to the hands of Lower Beck ending the Shakers unbeaten run. Dave McNabb when speaking to the club gave his thoughts on the game. Dave McNabb: “I don’t think we were good enough especially in the first half, In the second half I thought we were better we competed more and won more first and second contacts but I can’t believe we’re at the point where were congratulating the lads for putting a bit of effort in but the second half was better but I think on the balance of play and chances we probably should’ve come away with a point as we missed some gilt-edged chances especially towards the end but I won’t take anything away from Lower Breck they put us to the sword they had four shots in the first half that one of the lads put just wide and a freekick maybe but the other three big chances they had they’ve put away. They were clinical and deservedly went in 3-1 up and that put us in a tough position obviously to get something out the game, but we almost did get something out of it but I’m really disappointed with the performance.” Dave then spoke about what potentially went wrong in the first half saying “Most things to be honest and look you can’t come to places like this and not fight and the desire and passion that was shown in the second half wasn’t there in the first half, but you’ve got to win first contacts and second balls what we just didn’t do. I think the officials had a tough day as well if you look at two of the goals that went against us were really poor decisions especially the first one on the corner the goalkeepers being held back and they just didn’t see the obvious and they had a really difficult day I think.” He then spoke about the half time changes of Gaz Peet and Reuben Jerome replacing Connor Pye and Sam Coughlan and what that offered saying “We just needed to get more players on the top line I don’t think we were brave enough to play and we couldn’t play through the thirds and DJ [Pedro] was on his own and was trying to fight two powerful centre halves so I had to get another player on the top line and try and play from the first contact further up the pitch but to be honest 3 or 4 probably could’ve come off at half time.” Dave concluded on what the team must improve on to avoid dropping further points ahead of next weekend’s game, he said: “We need to look at ourselves because look I’m not going to blow this one up we’ve lost one game in 22 games so I think the fact we’re so angry and disappointed in this shows where we are, we’ve obviously had too many draws but to lose your first game towards the back end of November when you’ve already played 22 games is a testament to the lads and it’s the same group that won 8-0 on Saturday and were absolutely sublime so nothing has changed in that and I don’t think we’ve turned into a bad team or bad players overnight of course, we haven’t so just need to look back we have a full week of training again we meant to have a full week this week obviously we got kibosh a bit because of the weather so hopefully it’s a little bit kinder towards us and have a full week training and re establish some of the way we want to play and re establish some of the requirements of what we need from the players and staff and look we’ve still got some games in hand but you can’t expect to win them if you are not putting the performances in.” View the full article
  3. Following Bury 4-3 defeat away at Lower Breck defender Gaz Peet spoke to the club giving us his thoughts on Saturday’s game. Gaz Peet: “I mean to get to this point of the season undefeated was unbelievable I think the lads have worked hard and are disappointed with today. It’s I think the manner of the goals we conceded we’re great and I don’t even remember the last time we give so many chances away to a team and it was just one of them days and we’ve had too many of them this season and I know how good this group is so we won’t have many more.” Gaz then talked us through the last 10 minutes of the match saying: “We’ve got quality all over the pitch so when you’ve got lads at the top end of the pitch who can give you that little bit extra so it’s not surprising, it would’ve been nice if we didn’t concede the fourth in the way we did and that just gave us too much to do and yeah it’s not surprising we got back into the game we just did it too late and in the end I know we had a couple chances where we could’ve got a point but the lads tried and they left everything out there on the pitch but first half let us down a little bit.” Gaz then finished the interview by giving the fans a message ahead of next weekends match, he said “I mean this groups got something I’ll tell you that, it’s a great group and they’ve got quality everywhere so get yourself down again and I’m pretty sure we can turn everything around I mean its not even all that it’s one loss and we’ve got plenty more to come and this won’t define our season losing away to Lower Breck so stick behind us and support us.” View the full article

  7. We can confirm the departure of striker Andy Briggs, who has signed for West Didsbury & Chorlton. Following a seven-day approach by West, Andy informed the management of his wish to leave the football club. The 26-year-old joined the Shakers in July 2023 from Steeton, and made 33 appearances for the club last season, scoring 25 goals. He made a further 12 this season and has also had a spell with Widnes on dual-registration. We’d like to wish Andy all the best for the future. View the full article
  8. The first of three successive away games provides the Shakers with one of the toughest challenges of our season so far. Lower Breck are among the top teams in the league, and look certain to be among those scrapping for the promotion places come April. So they will be keen to end our unbeaten run of 21 games. The Shakers go into the challenge having had a week to reflect on our outstanding 8-0 home win against Longridge Town and extra training to further boost the skills on view in that game. Strong in defence, dynamic in midfield and relentlessly threatening up front: we certainly looked the real deal. Lower Breck also come into this game with a great win fresh in their minds. 5-0 at home against Glossop North End, who we know are no push-overs. And they also will have had a week off, because a frozen pitch scuppered their mid-week away fixture against FC Helens in the Macron Cup second round. Our next match at Gigg Lane will be against Colne on Saturday December 7. After Lower Breck we travel to Burscough a week later and Litherland REMYCA on December 4. Plenty of miles for our travelling fans – but all the players really value your backing, and so does everyone at the club. So please keep going for it!! In Opposition – Lower Breck Lower Breck are currently fourth in the league table – two places behind us, with 46 points from 25 games against our 49 from 21. They have won three and drawn two of their last six games. Formed 14 years ago as a youth team, they play at the Anfield Sports Community Centre. They later joined the Lancashire County Premier League second division, were promoted to the NWCFL in 2019, and went up into the Premier Division in 2021. Tickets Click here to purchase your ticket. 10. We can confirm the departure of winger, Iyrwah Gooden, who has joined Bradford Park Avenue. The 24-year-old joined the club in the summer after leaving NCEL champions Emley. He made 25 appearances for the Shakers, scoring five goals, including a debut goal against Squires Gate in July. Manager, Dave McNabb commented: “I’d like to wish Iyrwah the very best of luck at Bradford PA. A great player and an even better person. His smile, character and personality will be hugely missed by all staff and players. Good luck mate.” Everyone at the club would like to wish Iyrwah all the best for the future. View the full article
  11. This home cup-tie provides us with a double benefit: we can give Under-23s players game time and have an extra training session before the tough fixture against high-flying Lower Breck on Saturday. It also gives fans a chance to get along to Gigg Lane to recall and celebrate our outstanding performance of the season. The stunning 8-0 home win against Longridge gave morale a massive boost right across the club. And there will now be no NWCFL game at Gigg Lane until we entertain Colne on Saturday December 7. The match at Lower Breck will be followed by games at Burscough a week later and Litherland REMYCA on December 4. Meanwhile, we look forward to a great performance from the younger players after their experience at Abbey Hey in the Manchester Premier Cup five weeks ago. They were doing fine until they had a player sent off, and lost 4-2. In Opposition – Chadderton The clash with Chadderton was lined up back in June, when we were both awarded a bye in the draw for the first round. They started the league season strongly, but their form has dipped of late – four defeats in their last six matches. Nevertheless they’re still third in the table, with 47 points from 24 games compared with second-placed Shakers’ on 49 from 21 and top side Ramsbottom’s 53 from 24. On the Day & In the Ground This fixture will be pay on the gate only (cash / card), no advance tickets will be on sale. Blocks A to D in the Main Stand will be open for this fixture, with entry via the turnstiles for the Main Stand. The arrangements in this regard are to manage the stewarding costs for this game only, with a smaller than usual crowd anticipated. A main stand kiosk will be open serving hot food and drinks, with the bar in Starkies Lounge open when the ground opens at 6.30pm. Admission charges are: Adults – £5, 16-18-year-olds – £3, Under 16’s – £1. 16. It wouldn’t be surprising if Longridge Town come to Gigg Lane fired up with determination to take revenge for the 5-1 defeat we inflicted on them last month, when they visit Gigg Lane this weekend. It was a score that perhaps flattered the Shakers back in October, conceding three penalties in the game but after overcoming that storm and Mitch Allen saving two of the penalties, the result was empthatic in the end. Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Charnock Richard proved that we won’t have it all our own way as we look to assume top spot in the league, and with three draws in the last four at home manager Dave McNabb will be looking of more of type of finishes supplied by second-half substitute Alex Cherera. After a difficult first half, we were lucky to be only 1-0 down to lively Charnock Richard and were rescued by an unforgettable solo goal from our startlet Cherera on 71 minutes. Check out the goal below on the highlights, as well as comment from Tim Lees and midfielder Cam Fogerty. The challenge now is to extend it to 21 games. So once again we need lots of fans and plenty of noise to help us that run going. So come fans, and come on you Shakers!!! You can relive all the action from Tuesday and hear post match reaction from Tim Lees and Cam Fogerty below. In Opposition – Longridge Town It’s not been a good season so far for Longridge. They’ve lost their last two matches – at home against Glossop North End and away to South Liverpool – and are 16th in the table with 27 points from 22 matches. Longridge were promoted from the NWCFL’s Division One to the Premiership in 2019, but their first two seasons were curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They then turned down the chance of playing in the Northern Premier League. Lee Ashcroft – still their manager – explained: “We’re not ready… We’ve got to establish ourselves at this level for the next two or three years, maybe longer.” Last season they finished 19th. They drew 1-1 at Gigg Lane and we beat them 2-1 in the return fixture. 24. Next up the Shakers host Curzon Ashton in the reverse fixture, following a successful feat for Ashton at their home ground last week. Following a valiant comeback, the Shakers couldn’t quite match Curzon’s three goals, with the score ending 3-2 to the home team. Curzon Ashton currently sit in third place in the Premier Division of the North West Women’s Regional Football League, six positions above Bury. Before last week, the two teams previously came head to head in September for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, which saw Curzon secure a 0-5 victory at Gigg Lane. Head down and back the girls as they look to get a win. Tickets available on the gate. Cost: £3 adults//£1 children Parking: limited – spaces are first come first served. 25. After two goals in either half from DJ Pedro against AFC Liverpool this afternoon, Tim Lees reflected on the game. “A turbulent week, turbulent few days with everything that’s gone on. Our job as staff and as players is just to focus on the pitch and that started on Thursday with us, so there was no talk of anything outside of the club. It was purely football, how we’re going to get better, how we’re going to keep improving and I thought the lads were excellent, particularly first half. We’ve been working a lot on the defensive side, so how we press the game, how we’re organised and that’s one goal we conceded now in five games in a league, so another clean sheet, another 2-0, really pleased with it.” Tim then further expanded on how important getting clean sheets and praised goalkeeper Mitch Allen for it. Tim Lees: “Mitch is outstanding. We’ve known for a while that, in our opinion, Mitch is probably the best keeper, certainly in this league and the league above as well. Yeah, it’s come from the lads’ hard work on the training pitch and when we get more time on the training pitch, we’ll get better. So, when we can get down to one game a week, which we’re not far off now, I think that’s when you really see the best of this group. Collectively, individually, there’s so much improvement. The average age is just over 23 in the squad.” Further adding “I think last time we looked we had 10 out of the 20 who were 23 or under. So that shows to us how much this group can improve once we can get the time of them. Recently we’ve started getting some sessions in where we can really work on that defensive side. We know how much quality we’ve got in possession and the patterns in which we work. We’ve got the ultimate belief with the ball that we can take teams apart. But I think to win a league, you’ve got to be able to keep consistent, clean sheets. So that’s what we’ve been focusing on recently. I think it’s not just the backline for us, it’s how the front four press, how are the areas where they shell them. It’s the understanding of the two pivots in front, what they do, and then obviously it’s the box defending with the backline. So, it’s the whole team. I think defensively we’ve seen a massive improvement in the last four or five games. I’m pretty sure it’s four out of five games now, kept a clean sheet and conceded one goal in that time. So, the group are really improving and that’s the area we needed to get better. We’re going to really push and win this league.” Tim then spoke about today’s starting eleven with Ruben Jerome returning to the side from injury and Connor Pye playing slightly further forward. “I think because we’ve got depth in the squad, a part of the recruitment was we wanted lads who could play in different positions and could fill in and you wouldn’t have a drop in terms of the quality. That’s the biggest thing we learned from the league last year. We’ve got lads who can contribute in different areas. We’ve got a certain way of playing that the idea is they can play in these different areas, and they know exactly what’s required from them. Connor did great play further forward. He’s done that before when he was younger as well. In terms of Ruben, he’s been pushing. He’s had an injury that we didn’t want to push too early. The last time he played 90 minutes was the Radcliffe game, which feels like so long ago now. Great to have him back.” Tim then spoke on DJ Pedro performance after the striker scored another 2 goals to extend his scoring run to 4 in 4 games. “I think you can see in him the raw attributes he’s got, which is the work rate, the desire, the tracking back. That’s what you can’t really teach people when he’s got it in abundance. His athleticism, his change of direction, his power. It’d be horrible to play against for opposition. His performances have been excellent since he’s come in. He holds the ball up for us well. He makes forward runs. He adds what we call verticality to the game. When he was playing the 10 today, everything’s not to feet. He runs off, and he runs off Ruben. Really pleased that he’s getting the goals. He’s scored in every game he’s played. He’s technical, and we’re hoping with the time we have, we can do that, when I say technical, in terms of his clean striking and his finishing. He’s another one that when we get down to two sessions a week, he’ll really kick on.” Tim than spoke on Tuesday’s game against Charnock Richard. Tim Lees: “I think it’ll be a different game. I think when it was 11 v 11, before the sending off, it was a good game, it was close. I think we were starting to get control of it, but their physical side, we know them very well. They caused us problems last year. You know when you play Charnock exactly what you’re going to get. One of the toughest games that you’ll have, I think, Charnock. But the idea from our point of view, even though we’ve not got a session in between, is more of what we’re doing. We’re playing really, really well with the ball.” Further adding “I’m not necessarily saying it’s going to be Tuesday, but I think with the chances that we’re having, in terms of the number, there’s going to be a team that we’re going to put several goals past in one game at some point soon. So yeah, we’re going to have to be tight defence. We’ve got to have the same organisation against Charnock and yeah, we’re going to every game. At the moment, we’re confident in every single game.” Tim than finished the interview praising the fans for their continued support. “Yeah, they’re the best. When you come to Bury, they’re the first thing that you sell to every player when you’re trying to recruit them. It’s the fans. They’re unbelievable. They come out every single week. Like we always say, the away games feel like home games. I think in terms of the stuff that’s going off off the field at the minute, it’s so important that they stick together and that everybody’s positive. I think obviously our job on the field is to make sure we give them something to be positive about.” View the full article
