Bury Sporting Memories – Official Launch
People from across the local community are invited to the official launch of the Bury Sporting Memories Club, which is taking place at the Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre on Wednesday 26th February between 10:30am – 12pm. Bury Sporting Memories is a weekly session run every Wednesday from 10:30am to 12pm at Gigg Lane, which welcomes older people aged 50+ to reminisce, replay and reconnect through the power of sport. The club uses the power of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support older people aged 50+ to live better lives, including those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lonely circumstances. It has been running since November and has been a great success so far with many older people from across Bury taking the opportunity to join the free sessions to chat about sport and get stuck into all the activities on offer. The official launch has a special connection to a local sporting theme, with a football exhibition currently taking place at the Art Museum. People who attend the official launch will not see the impact that Sporting Memories is having on those that attend regularly, but they will also have the chance to view the famous LS Lowry painting ‘Going to the Match’ alongside other wonderful football memorabilia. If you would like to find out more about how to attend the official launch on Wednesday 26 February at the Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre, Moss Street, Bury BL9 0DR, between 10:30am – 12pm, please contact Stefan via s.taylor@bury.go.uk. If you would like to find out more about Sporting Memories visit their website at www.sportingmemories.uk View the full article

Club Statement: Ian Harrop
Representatives of the club met with Ian Harrop on 15 February 2025 to discuss Ian’s ban from the hospitality areas of the stadium. In the interest of moving forward in a positive manner Ian was informed that he is now welcome to return to the hospitality areas of the stadium with immediate effect. During the meeting Ian expressed concern about comments made regarding him on the usual social media platforms. As a club we do not condone the abuse of any individual, be that a board member, employee, volunteer or supporter. The decision to impose the ban was not made pursuant to the club’s official sanction policy as the circumstances giving rise to it were outside the scope of the policy. As such, it has no impact on any stadium ban which has been imposed pursuant to the sanction policy, all of which remain in place on the terms notified to the individuals concerned. The club and Ian have resolved the matter amicably and now regard it as closed. View the full article

Match Info: West Didsbury & Chorlton (H), Sat 15th Jan, 3pm KO
We last faced West a few days after some good performances, including a convincing home win against local rivals Prestwich Heys. But we suffered a 4-0 loss in South Manchester, a result Dave and his team are itching to set right. By coincidence, the return fixture follows another good performance against Prestwich. There was only ever one team in it as we won 2-0 at Adie Moran Park. That victory made it five in five games, and the long-awaited clean sheet was a welcome sign of progress – along with the signing of gifted left-side defender Reece Kendall. So we now face West on top of the table, on our own pitch at Gigg Lane, in great form, and with a strong squad strengthened even further. All this gives us every reason to be cheerful about our chances of taking revenge for the result in Chorlton and making it six wins out of six. Plenty of noise will help, so please come and shout for the lads. Up the Shakers! View the post match media from last weekend’s win at Prestwich Heys including interviews with Dave McNabb & Josh Gregory. In Opposition – West Didsbury & Chorlton West have had mixed fortunes since their big win against the Shakers. Their next match was at North Shields in the fourth round of the Isuzu FA Vase, and they lost 2-1. Since then they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one. The 2-1 defeat was in a home game against none other than Prestwich Heys. The club dates back to 1908, became West Didsbury AFC in 1920, and added Chorlton to the name after acquiring their own ground in 1996. They joined the NWCFL in 2012 and were promoted to the premier division after just one season. On the Day & In the Ground Our Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Kelvin Etuhu will be our guest in Starkies from 1:20pm. Saturday is also our dedicated fixture for Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week. As a club, we remain heavily committed to working with and for the Community, and at a time dedicated to raising awareness of hate crime and how to combat it. It may not be widely known but Gigg Lane is a Hate Crime Awareness Centre, and this on Saturday morning our Operations Manager, Casey Lynchey, will lead some training on the issues with our volunteer team. Next Monday (17th) we will be hosting an event at Gigg Lane in conjunction with Bury Council and Manchester United Street Reds all aimed at raising awareness of Hate Crime in Greater Manchester, and how to combat it. Starkies Bar Before kick-off: Starkies will be open at the normal time of 12.30pm for supporters to access from the Manchester Road End entrance before kick-off. Welcome to Bury: Reece Kendall
We are thrilled to announce the signing of talented left-sided defender Reece Kendall who recently left Matlock Town, subject to FA & league approval. The 25-year-old re-joined Matlock for a second spell in September last year for an undisclosed fee having previously played for the club between 2019 and 2021. His career began at Brighouse Town and he has also represented Spennymoor Town and Guiseley. Reece was named in the NPL Premier Division Team of the Season last year during his time at Guiseley and has also earned recognition at international level, receiving a call-up to the England C squad. Speaking about his move, he said: “I’m really happy to be coming into such a big club, the lads are top draw and the facilities are unbelievable. Just can’t wait to get involved and get started now a must-win every week is the minimum from that group of lads and hopefully, I can help in any way possible.” We can’t wait to see Reece in action for the Shakers! Match Info: Prestwich Heys (A), Sat 8th Feb, 3pm KO
The Shakers go into our local derby at Prestwich after a great run of results – including a 5-2 home win against Heys on December 28th. Since then we have established a clear lead at the top of the league and turned in some excellent performances – including Tuesday night’s 3-2 win against Isle of Man. But the game had more drama than many a TV crime series. The Manx men took an early lead and levelled the scores at 2-2 four minutes from full-time. But our winner in the fourth minute of added time was a goal of stunning quality. Bryan Ly’s pin-point accurate corner found the head of in-form striker Djavan Pedro, and the ground erupted. But there’s no room for complacency as we take on Heys. They’re fighting hard to avoid relegation. It’s a sell-out, so there’s scope for lots of noise. Up the Shakers!!! In Opposition – Prestwich Heys An up-and-down season for Heys has mostly been down. But some decent results in the last few weeks have lifted them off the bottom of the table. On Tuesday they won 2-1 at West Didsbury and Chorlton, who beat us 4-0 on the same ground in our first game in 2025. Four wins in their last six games have lifted Heys into sixth position in the form table – in contrast to their 22nd place in the league with 24 points out of a possible 105. Match Info: FC Isle of Man (H), Tue 4th Feb, 7:45pm KO
We welcome FC Isle of Man to Gigg Lane on Tuesday night, after the original fixture was postponed from January 11th as a result of the big freeze. We narrowly escaped defeat on the island back in September, but we come into the return fixture in great form. Successive victories against Lower Breck at home and Barnoldswick Town and Stockport Town away have re-established our position as league leaders at the top of the table with 73 points from 34 games. A key factor in this is the stunning form of striker DJ Pedro – 20 goals in 18 appearances since he joined us, initially on loan, from Buxton. DJ’s success reflects the performances of the whole squad. Yes, we have had our moments – but the trajectory is clear. We’re more than aware that Ramsbottom are only one point behind us, followed closely by Lower Breck. And below them are no fewer than five other promotion hopefuls – including FC IoM. That’s why every point is crucial, so all you Shakers’ fans…down to Gigg and support the lads with plenty of raucous noise. Up the Shakers!!!! View the post match media from our weekend’s win at Stockport Town including interviews with Dave McNabb & Cam Fogerty below. In Opposition – FC Isle of Man The Ravens came into being only five years ago, with plans so impressive that they were accepted immediately into the NWCFL Division One South. Covid held them back for a year, but the league’s original decision was vindicated when they won promotion through the play-offs in their first season. They made a good start this term. They defend robustly and – as we saw in September – are usually skilled in the art of game management. But their results have not been so good in recent weeks. They’ve won only two of their last six matches – a run which continued with a 1-1 home draw against Irlam on Saturday. On the Day & In the Ground Our Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Starkies Bar Before kick-off: Starkies will be open at the normal time of 6pm for supporters to access from the Manchester Road End entrance before kick-off. Match Info: Stockport Town (A), Sat 1st Feb, 3pm KO
After that great win at home to Lower Breck, we face a different kind of challenge – a team even newer to this league than we are, and packed with lively young players. Lower Breck were beating everybody in sight, but we beat them in some style. The first half was probably our best 45 minutes of the season so far. Yes, we gave them a window of opportunity by sitting back at 3-1. But we made it, and overall were the better team by some distance. The last six weeks have been tough for our players and coaches as a result of illness and injuries in the squad and new signings and departures. We had one really bad day in South Manchester, but overall we’ve proved ourselves more than worthy title contenders. We go to the Stockport Sports Village looking for a double – we beat them 2-1 at home in September – and with the memory of our performance last weekend still fresh in our minds. So, Shakers fans, hit the road. Be there! Be part of it! Be noisy! Up the Shakers!!! In Opposition – Stockport Town Town’s first season in the NWCFL Premier Division follows their promotion as Division One South runners-up. They’re doing well, sitting in 9th position and with a last six record of three wins, one draw and two defeats. In contrast to Shakers, they go into this game after a home defeat. On Monday evening, two second-half goals gave sixth-placed Irlam victory after Town had taken the lead in the 19th minute. This was disappointing for the club after their 2-1 win at South Liverpool last weekend, so they’ll very much want to bounce back. Admission & Tickets This fixture is ALL-TICKET. Click here to purchase your ticket. You won’t be able to pay on the gate. Travel & Parking Nearest Railway: Bredbury (16 mins walk) or Woodley (9 mins walk) Nearest Bus Route to Ground: 330 bus from Stockport to Ashton Driving: The ground lies a short distance from the M60. To reach us from the motorway, you should leave at Junction 25, which is signposted for Bredbury. Follow signs from here for the A560 towards Bredbury and Sheffield. Just after passing the McDonalds Drive-Thru, take a left at the traffic lights and proceed down Stockport Road towards Woodley, passing both Morrisons and Homebase on your left before passing under the railway bridge at Bredbury Railway Station. Continue on Stockport Road until you meet the next set of traffic lights. After the lights take your first left on to Mill Lane, and continue along Mill Lane over the train bridge, taking the second right on to Woodlands Avenue, then the first left on to Lambeth Grove. Follow the road until you see the entrance to Stockport Sports Village. We strongly advise all spectators to turn left in to the car park as this is nearest to the turnstile entrance. Parking Facilities: No reserved parking, first come first serve, however due to other bookings at SSV we would advise finding alternative parking or using public transport – Parking at Woodley Precinct is available SK6 1RJ Ground Facilities: Draught beer, other alcoholic, soft and hot drinks will be available from the bar at the top of the main stand, pitchside hatch and we will have a can bar located pitchside.
