Football and Education College Pathway with Football Futures
We have finalised an amazing partnership with Football Futures Group to create an industry-leading college football programme for boys and girls, starting September 2025 all based on-site at Gigg Lane. The programme is set to offer the very best environment and career focused pathways to young people in the region, alongside BTEC Sport vocational studies with Access Sports College. Using the power of Bury FC the programme promises to be a special and unrivalled course of its type, providing a variety of opportunities both on and off the pitch. Football Futures will build up-on its successful academy site in the centre Manchester, based at the University of Manchester and will help provide further football and employability pathways to all Football Futures students, staff and stakeholders. Football Futures managing director Paul McGuire said: “We’re extremely proud to collaborate with a club such as Bury FC and we hope to contribute to the re-build of this historic football club. Our dream will be to create players for both the men’s and women’s 1st teams, whilst also offering routes into careers within football and sports as a whole.” Casey Lynchey, Bury FC Community Development Officer added: “This is another exciting development for the club and one we were pleased to get over the line. We have been looking at ways to bring further education pathways to Gigg Lane and working alongside Paul McGuire at Football Futures and Access Sport College, with Leon Mike, our u23s manager, leading the football operations, is the perfect solution.” Look out for a range of open days and taster sessions throughout November and December, interested Under 16s (School year 11) can request an invite by emailing Paul McGuire at: headoffice@footballfuturesgroup.com View the full article

Message from Dave McNabb
Dave McNabb has released the following message to supporters: Good evening Shakers, I know it’s been a turbulent time over the last couple of days with the events that have unfolded but I wanted to reach out to you all and ask that we all continue to focus on the football, keep driving the team on and try to remain positive. I’d like to place on record my thanks to Phil and Marcel who brought me into the club. The pair have worked tirelessly in the background and have been a driving force in getting us to where we are today. As we enter a transition period for the club there will be lots of opinions and thoughts about how we move forward, we must support the board behind the scenes to navigate us though this challenging time and trust the upcoming electoral process will deliver us the right people and structure to continue to propel the club forward. In the meantime, let’s all do our bit to ensure we achieve our goals and objectives on the pitch this year. Whether that is picking the team, coaching the team, playing staff, volunteers or fans, we all have our roles to play to ensure this season is a success. We have had a very positive start and we couldn’t have achieved what we have so far without you, the fans. The team now needs you more than ever, in your numbers and as loud and proud as ever. See you tomorrow, Dave View the full article

Board Statement: Resignations Confirmed
The club has today received the resignations of both Phil Young (FSSB Chair) and Marcel De Matas (FSSB Board Member & Football Chair). Phil will not stand for re-election in the upcoming Football Supporters Society of Bury (FSSB) elections and will depart the club after over four years as chair, of first Shakers Community, and then FSSB from 2023. In his time, the club has evolved from the very bottom of the football pyramid and he was the driving force behind the financial sustainability and reporting that is in place today. He led the club’s commitment to the merger process, working with the stakeholders securing the ground which enabled the return to Gigg Lane last year. Most recently, his work to secure over £750,000 funding has transformed the stadium into the new era, with the installation of the 3G pitch over the summer of 2024 and soon to be installed LED floodlighting. He leaves with the club in a healthy financial position to move onto the next stage. Marcel has indicated he will be standing down with immediate effect from both his role on the FSSB board, which he was duly elected upon in 2023, and as Chair of the Football Club. As football chair, a role which he began in 2021, Marcel has led diligently on football-related matters, covering various roles that make the operations side of the club tick. From chairing the football board meetings, all the way through the club to liaising with and assisting managing the large group of matchday volunteers. Marcel has always been on hand to offer support and guidance to supporters and his optimistic energy will be missed from the day-to-day running of the club. We wish to place on record our thanks to both for their commitment to the cause and playing a pivotal role in the re-emergence of Bury Football Club following the events of 2019. The FSSB board will take time to reflect on these decisions in the coming days before looking to make the decisions around the next steps for the club. View the full article

Club Statement: Volunteer Roles
We wish to provide an update and inform all supporters following a review of volunteering practices within the club this week. Firstly, and understandably, the club has received a lot of feedback from supporters about the role of one of our volunteers John Raftery on Wednesday. We have been in regular contact with John since Wednesday, both offering apologies for the upset caused and working on the solution to move forward. A conversation was had between a member of the board and CEO Neil Sears regarding John’s role. This led to confusion, miscommunication and caused unnecessary stress on a volunteer. We greatly regret this action. In line with current structure at the club, Football Chair Marcel De Matas has taken responsibility in trying to bring about a resolution to this unfortunate situation. We can confirm that John Raftery is welcome to continue in his current role as a volunteer, both during the week at Gigg Lane and on our hospitality reception on matchdays. John will come back to us on this, once he has had chance to consider the offer. What happened on Wednesday was a mistake, and a function of poor communication and decision making within the club. It was the result of too much pressure, too little time and not enough clarity on who should be deciding what. We will do more to ensure this does not happen again. Secondly, as part of this work and where some of the confusion on this issue has stemmed from, we are in the process of reviewing all of our volunteer roles. Our primary concern is always safety and security in the stadium. There are occasions where we have staff and volunteers going beyond what we expect of them, and this enthusiasm can sometimes cause problems. We are trying to find a balance, but on occasions we need to reduce the responsibilities people take on for the good of the club or those individuals. This will sometimes cause frustration but it is always done with the right intent. We do not want, for example, volunteers engaging with people who have become aggressive or threatening. We would prefer them not to do this online but have no control over social media. We certainly do not want people to do this in person. We want to provide more clarity on what is expected and will work on this over the forthcoming weeks. Equally, we have had incidents where staff have been threatened or abused by supporters. Supporters will always have opinions and criticism is part of any job in football. There is a line that should not be crossed however, and we will continue to take action where that happens. We welcome supporters working with the club to achieve an environment which helps it prosper and thank all for their patience whilst we have dealt with any club matters both privately, and as promptly as possible. Match Info: AFC Liverpool (A), Sat 9th Nov, 1pm KO
Hopes were high for a match against St Helens that could have sent the Shakers like a rocket into second position in the league. But, despite the impressive fireworks display in the air around Gigg Lane and plenty of cracking chances for both sides going begging, the Bonfire Night game ended with honours even. Nevertheless, the 1-1 scoreline in a tough game against resolute opponents stretches our unbeaten record to 18 and moves us up into third place. Highlights and post match media is available below. Next up: AFC Liverpool. We’re still the ‘Mighty Shakers’ and on the back of three away wins on the trot, so we head for Merseyside with momentum on the road. We hope there are still many Shakers fans still able to reach Crosby for the now earlier kick-off at 1pm this Saturday. We will be hoping to follow up a 2-0 victory against AFC Liverpool at home in August to complete the double for a second successive season. But it will be anything but easy. So come on you Shakers fans, let’s shake off the disappointment of Bonfire Night and have lots of noise as we get behind our lads at the Marine Travel Arena in Crosby. Get all your match information below. In Opposition – AFC Liverpool AFC Liverpool has been having a solid season so far in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division. Their recent form is a bit of a mixed bag – three wins and three losses in their last six games. Most recently, they pulled off an exciting 4-3 away win against West Didsbury & Chorlton, showing they’ve got plenty of fight. “Always good to get recognised” – Connor Pye speaks on Player of the Month win
Following our 2-0 win yesterday afternoon against Pilkington, we confirmed Connor Pye as our player of the month for October. “It’s always good to get recognised for what you’ve been doing,” Pye speaks of the accolade, in a month he scored twice and was apart of three cleansheets. He then gave us his thoughts on yesterday’s game saying, “It was tough and they’re a good team they came out and tried to play football and they’ve got some really good individuals in their team but the early goal we got helped us a lot and we changed a bit in the second half, but we got another goal.” Pye added: “It’s about getting momentum because we in a bit of a tough period where the games are coming thick and fast but it’s just about keeping that momentum and there’s another tough game on Tuesday and that’s a big game.” Looking ahead to Tuesday’s game against FC St Helens, Pye said: “It’s going to be a really tough game there going to play football there a team that is organised and it’s the biggest game so far but if we win there hopefully, we can keep that momentum going into Christmas.” View the full article

“It was a tough game in the most parts” – Chris Watts on today’s third consecutive 2-0 win
Bury ran out 2-0 winners against Pilkington this afternoon with goals from Rustam Stepans and Djavan Pedro extending their winning run to three games with another clean sheet as the Shakers climb to third. “I thought we did okay in spells but it was a tough game in the most parts,” First Team Analyst, Chris Watts reflected on the game. “It felt like one of them games where it was going to be our undoing if they got anything from this but it was good to get the second one and see it out but it was one of the most controlled games we’ve had at home but I thought we were a bit wasteful at time down at their end and on another day we get a few more and we didn’t really test the keeper but you can’t be too displeased.” DJ Pedro scored on his home debut, Watts added, “I’m really pleased for him as he’s worked really hard, battled really well, and won his headers. He was a nuisance all day, and I was pleased to see him get one, but I’m pleased to see him on the score sheet, and hopefully, we’ll see more of him.” Josh Gregory and Sam Coughlan both left the pitch through injury, Watts gave an update on their condition. “Josh is at the hospital and we think it’s just a dislocation we think he’s just landed awkwardly after the header but we think he’s just dislocated his shoulder so probably a while before we see him and for Sam, I think he ran into the same lad who got underneath Josh so we’re going to send him for an X-ray to see if there is a problem with his hip as that’s where there’s a lot of pain so there two we’re going to have to keep an eye on.” “Bobby [Carroll] has just been in with the physio now to see where he’s at and we’ve lost two central midfielders today so that’s something we’ve got to look at with the outcome of Josh and Sam but hopefully we’ll get Bobby back for Tuesday and we’ll see how his ankle reacts within the next 24 hours.” Chris finished the interview by giving his thoughts on the upcoming game against St. Helens, “It’ll be a really tough game. There’s a hardworking side, and he’s had that group together for quite a while now and are running a quest of a wave from getting promoted last year, but it’ll be another tough game we’ll look at, and we’ve got to perform on the day and take the three points.” View the full article

Club Statement: AFC Liverpool (a)
Following discussions with AFC Liverpool ahead of our game next Saturday (9th November), the club can provide the following update: A request was made to us by AFC Liverpool on 22nd September to move this fixture to the Friday evening (8th) or to an early kick-off (12.30pm) on the originally scheduled date. The reasons given revolved around how a number of their club’s volunteers were due to steward Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa that same evening and consequently, AFC Liverpool wouldn’t have sufficient staff to operate the game at the Marine Travel Arena. An alternative solution offered was for the originally scheduled 3pm kick-off to be maintained, but only 150 supporters would be able to be in attendance, due to limited steward capacity. After speaking with our manager Dave McNabb, it was not feasible to facilitate either of the alternative times offered due to player work commitments and we replied confirming this. We were then approached again on the 19th October, and asked to reconsider. Our answer remained the same and this was passed back to AFC Liverpool promptly. We continued to prioritise our squad availability in this decision. We have been in communications with all stakeholders involved, including the North-West Counties League. The League advised both clubs to try and come to an agreement. If we couldn’t, then both clubs could be potentially charged with failing to fulfil a fixture. Despite coming up with several options during this process, we have been forced into choosing the option to play the match on Saturday 9th November, 1.00pm kick-off. This is against our better judgement. The option of playing on the originally scheduled at 3pm, has been removed by the League as they have safety concerns. We have released this statement to give supporters full context on the decision, which has been made largely with a view to supporting the manager and squad, under these disappointing circumstances. Further to this, we have notified the League of our intention to appeal this decision. If required, we will then appeal further to the FA. At this point, the club will comment no further. Details on the arrangements for the game will follow from the start of next week (4th November) and we will bring them to you when available. The Football Board View the full article

Match Info: Pilkington (H), Sat 2nd Nov, 3pm KO
There are plenty of good reasons for every available Bury supporter to head to Gigg Lane for the match against Pilkington this weekend. The lead-up has been about as good as it gets: two away wins in five days and two clean sheets, followed by two training sessions in a rare week clear of matches. It’s likely that on-loan striker Djavan Pedro will make his first home appearance following his impressive debut at Colne. And then… you might just catch a glimpse of our old striking-hero Ryan Lowe – special guest in the hospitality venues. We might even get to sing his old Gigg Lane chant! Ryan Lowe…repeat and repeat! All our hopes for the trips to Colne and Charnock Richard were fulfilled, and the next aspiration is a third successive win with another clean sheet. Mitch Allen has been superb in goal, and thoroughly deserves the greeting he will get from the fans if we pull it off. We are 16 unbeaten in the league and look to start off the month of November with fireworks of our own. So…come on you (Shakers) fans, we will see you at Gigg Lane to be #PartofIt. Get all your pre-match information below. In Opposition – Pilkington Two wins in their last six games represents improvement for third-from-bottom Pilkington. Success against Colne and Charnock Richard and a draw with South Liverpool will have given morale a bit of a boost. The Greens are in their second season in the Premier Division after winning the Division One North title in 2023. Last season, we won 3-1 in the same fixture with late goals from Billy Reeves & Joe Hobson. Recap the highlights below. Check out Pilk’s history, from their breakdown available at the NWCFL website HERE. Ryan Beigan will be one to watch who has previously featured at Lower Breck, moving to Pilks in the summer and has eight goals so far this term. Next week Pilkington might fancy their chances a little more – they’re at home to our neighbours Prestwich Heys, who are having an even tougher time of it. But then a week later they face another daunting prospect…a visit to our other near neighbours and current league leaders Ramsbottom United. On the Day & In the Ground Our Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Match Tickets can be bought online HERE.
