  5. Following a North West Counties Football League Management Committee meeting held on 6th September 2023, we have been notified of the League’s intention to fine the club £100 and deduct three points for fielding a player contracted to another club. The club disputes this and is in the process of appealing to the Football Association. No sanctions will take effect until the appeal has been heard. We know supporters will be severely disappointed to learn that we might lose hard earned points, as is Andy Welsh and his team. We would, however, ask for your patience as we go through the appeals process and will not be sharing any further information at this stage so as not to compromise that appeal. In addition to the appeal, the club has now also made some process changes to mitigate against this risk in future. The volunteer involved in the transfer is no longer working with the club, and there is no evidence he knew of a problem. Neither the player nor any of the management team were aware of any concerns, and we would not play anyone where there was any known problem. There is nothing to be gained by blaming individuals given the specifics of this case. The points deduction does not alter any of the results achieved to date. They all stand. There are 105 points up for grabs in our league campaign now. The focus is on continuing with our preparations and winning as many of those points as possible until the end of the season. 6. We go again this weekend after picking up four points since last Saturday, with a win at home against West Didsbury & Chorlton and a point on the road at Wythenshawe in midweek, following a late penalty. Shakeel Jones-Griffiths grabbed his first Bury goal with a header from a corner on Tuesday night and a returning Benito Lowe sent Gigg Lane into raptures last weekend when a spirited West fightback set up a nail-biting finish and a last minute winner. Get your highlights for both games at our YouTube channel HERE. We head into the weekend sitting second in the league, behind early pace-setters, Kendal Town, by five points following the Mintcakes loss away at Colne on Tuesday night. Andy Welsh, gave us his thoughts last weekend following the win over West Didsbury and how electric games at Gigg Lane are for the lads on the pitch: We are the season’s top-scorers in the league so far with 25 goals, so if you are looking for entertainment then Gigg Lane is the place to be at this moment at Step 5. Our visitors, Longridge Town, head into the game in 22nd in the league but did secure their first league win of the campaign last weekend with a 6-0 drubbing of Skemelsdale United. They have lost all three away games this season however, a fact they will no doubt be looking to put right this weekend in the Gigg Lane sunshine. Get all your pre-match information on the opposition, tickets, programmes, access to Gigg Lane, and much more in our details below. In Opposition – Longridge Town Formed in 1996 when the two clubs of the town, United & St. Wilfrid’s came together with the aim of raising the standard of football in the town. The previous two clubs had existing from as far back as the 19th century, so the experience was by no means novice, and the club quickly moved out of the local religious leagues they had taken part in for nearly a century and through the Preston & District and then West Lancashire Leagues before being promoted to the NWCFL in 2018. They quickly moved into the Premier Division following a successful first season, finishing as Champions. They have remained at this step since that point. For more information on Longridge, head to their NWCFL page HERE. Tickets & Admission General sale tickets are available for the Main and South Stands, plus hospitality for the Main Stand. 10. The Interim Board of Football Supporters Society of Bury would like to provide the following update in relation to the leak of information and the resumption of the full elections for the society board. The investigation which was detailed in an email to members on the 16th August 2023 was completed on the 4th September 2023. The findings of the investigation were inconclusive as to where the leak of information originated from. Additionally, the panel responsible for the investigation concluded they were confident that there had been no unauthorised access of any member data. As a result, we now consider this matter closed. The board are in the process of finalising a way forward in conjunction with Mi-Voice and the Football Supporters Association to resume the election as soon as reasonably possible now that the investigation has concluded. The board is committed to ensuring the integrity of the election is upheld and have agreed to put additional mitigations in place to facilitate this. We would like to thank members for their ongoing patience whilst these issues are resolved and will be publishing an updated election timetable in due course when the updated processes are agreed and the electorate data is verified. Anonymous social media accounts often cause unnecessary problems for the football club and the wellbeing of its members and supporters. These accounts seek to divide the fan-base, undermine the hard-work of volunteers and ultimately have a negative impact on the club’s progress both on and off the field. We would encourage supporters to only engage with updates from official channels and the we will endeavour to keep fans up to date of election progress and other relevant issues whenever possible until the newly elected board is in place. End July Management Accounts You can now view the management accounts for the new financial year (starting 1st July) to end July 2023. These cover Bury Football Club and the two societies. They do not yet include The Bury Football Club Company Limited, which is the company which owns the stadium, but this should be addressed in future. View Now

  13. -: Who doesn’t love a 96th minute winner? Saturday’s game was certainly one chocked full of action, goals and two brilliant sets of supporters. Andy Welsh and his team ensured that all three points courtesy of a fantastic finish from returning Striker Benito Lowe, an Andy Briggs brace and a first goal of the season for tricky winger Abs Obasoto. You can watch the highlights of this exciting game below. With games coming thick and fast we look to make it three wins out of four against newly promoted Wythenshawe FC on the road at The Hollyhedge Park Community stadium. Information including a link to buy tickers for this ALL TICKET GAME can be found below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNn9_BlWtAk In Opposition – Wythenshawe FC Originally founded in 1946 as Wythenshawe Lads’ Club by Reg Gauntlet, a local window cleaner, gathering together a group of kids kicking a ball about in the street, started playing friendlies, held meetings with parents in a wooden hut in the grounds of Cringlewood House, Yew Tree Lane. They then set up home by hiring a room in an old farmhouse in Daine Avenue, Rackhouse. A couple of years later Noel Timpson, of Timpson Shoes, purchased two ex-WW2 Nissen huts and sited them within the farmhouse grounds. Promotion was gained in May 2018 when the FA allocated the first team to a restructured North West Counties Football League. This meant that the club was competing at semi-professional level for the first time, they finished a creditable fourth in the First Division South in their first season. In 2019 the first team returned to the national stage when they re-entered the FA Vase. The following season 2020-21, they made their debut in the FA Cup, in the Extra Preliminary Round beat Shelley at home 4-2 in a memorable penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in 90 mins, exited in the Preliminary Round v. Trafford at home 1-4. The first full season, 2021-22, following two coronavirus pandemic hit seasons, they reached the NWCFL Division One South play-offs, losing to FC Isle of Man in the semi-finals. They improved on that the following season, 2022-23, arguably the clubs most successful, with a first team double, winning automatic promotion to the Premier Division by becoming champions, their first ever semi-professional title, then adding the First Division Champions Cup, reserves won the Altrincham District FA Senior Cup, Sunday team champions of the Stockport Sunday League, Division Two. Junior section won a club record 13 trophies. Sacha Lord, co-founder of the music festival Parklife and The Warehouse Project, in April 2023 joined the Board and installed as Chair in June. Barratt, appointed as Chair in 2019, remained on the Board as Vice-Chair. 18. In a weekend with a quick fire double header your Shakers took on a strong Cheadle Town side in front of the Gigg Lane faithful on Saturday and faced a second trip to play an impressive Charnock in a fortnight. Our Shakers picked up 4 out of an available 6 points and we currently sit in 3rd spot in the table behind league leaders Kendal and second placed Chadderton. All eyes are now on this coming weekend’s game and we would like to see as many of you Shakers in attendance as we return to Gigg Lane this coming Saturday and welcome West Didsbury & Chorlton. As we look ahead to the upcoming game, we can be excited by the reinforcements now returning to the squad such as Matty Williams, Curtis Obeng, Jimmy Moore and Benito Lowe which we all hope will give Andy and his management team more choice in both attack and defence as we look to kick on. You can catch Monday’s highlights below: Andy Welsh, gave us his thoughts following two games in quick succession over the bank holiday weekend: Our visitors currently sit 8th in the table following a run of games which has seen them win 3, draw 1 and lose 2 of their last six games. Get all your pre-match information on the opposition, tickets, programmes, access to Gigg Lane, and much more in our details below. In Opposition – West Didsbury & Chorlton West Didsbury and Chorlton AFC was founded as Christ Church A.F.C. in 1908, over 100 years ago, by Mr. R F Hartley, a Sunday School Superintendent at the church on Princess Parkway, West Didsbury. West played friendlies at first and then in the Manchester Alliance League until the First World War. After the War the club joined the Lancashire and Cheshire League for the 1920/21 season and had to change its name to West Didsbury AFC, as that League did not permit a name suggesting association with any other body. The club was placed in Divisions 1 and A, and stayed in the top flight for 25 seasons. The first honours were double runners up in Div 1 and Rhodes Cup in 1922/23, and the club remained in the L+C League until 2006, winning many honours and providing 4 League Presidents along the way. The home ground from before 1914 until the mid 1980’s was Christie Playing Fields, and then the owners, Manchester and Salford Playing Fields Society, gave the club notice to quit having decided to sell off the land for commercial development – now ironically called ‘Christie Fields’ office park. After several years’ nomadic existence the club acquired the redundant and overgrown Recreation Ground at Brookburn Road in Chorlton in 1996, and made plans to restore the ground and develop a vision for a community club. This was down to the hard work of a core of players and Committee who refused to let the club fold. New changing rooms and clubhouse facilities were completed aided by a Lottery grant, new sponsors and members’ fundraising, but without a penny from the Playing Fields Society sale proceeds and in time to start the 1997-98 season at this new home. A further name change followed in 2003 to reflect the new location in Chorlton and the club was then elected to the Manchester League in 2006. In 2007/8 West won its first Manchester League silverware lifting the Murray Shield in the last game of the club’s centenary year. That team was the nucleus of the previously successful junior team and the following season 2008/09 West just missed promotion to the Premier Division and again reached the Murray Shield Final. With a new management team led by Andy Nelson, 2009/10 was very successful and honours spread throughout the club. The 1st team won the Murray Shield (the third consecutive year in the final) and was league runners-up. The reserves won the Bridgewater League Cup and the U17 Youth team won their League. In 2010/2011 the 1st team won the Manchester League First Division title in style with a fantastic 65 points out of 72 possible. This ranks as one of the highest points totals per game in Manchester League history dating back over a century. The clubs reserve team and youth teams also had terrific seasons, also resulting in promotion and for the second year reaching the Bridgewater Cup Final. The Youth team reached yet another final where they were just pipped to the trophy by New Mills and the Veterans were runners up in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Veterans League. Plans were made to lease adjacent land long term for junior football to deliver the club Vision to be a FA Charter Standard Club, playing at the highest possible level it can whilst remaining financially viable. Floodlights were erected in July 2011 to meet FA requirements and West competed in the FA Vase for the first time in 2011-12 as a Step 7 club. Election to the Step 6 and the NWCFL followed in June 2012 and the club had an incredible first season finishing in 3rd position to secure promotion to Step 5, guaranteeing a first ever FA Cup place and winning the Div1 Trophy. 2013-14 saw a strong recovery from a series of early season setbacks and defeats in August to consolidate with a very creditable 12th place league finish in the Premier Division. Two new stands were then installed to improve spectator facilities and the new grass pitches were laid out on adjoining land as part of the long term development plan. Further historic milestones in 2013-14 were the 2-0 home victory over Abbey Hey in the club’s first ever appearance in the FA Cup quickly followed by a 2-1 first FA Vase victory away at NCEL Rossington Main near Doncaster in mid September. The following season saw the club experience something of an erratic start in the League, as well as losing to Brighouse Town from the Evo Stik League [North] in the FA Cup at the end of August having been given a walk over by the FA in the previous round against NWCFL new club, Cammell Laird 1907. Rossington were FA Vase opponents for the second successive year and again defeated 2-1, this time at home, before West lost 1-2 to eventual finalists Glossop North End. Some good mid season results garnered enough points to finish 16th in the table, well clear of trouble, with a final home game 2-0 victory over Runcorn Linnets signing off manager Andy Nelson’s six meteoric season’s in style. 2015-16 proved to be a record breaking season in a number of ways for West. After a slightly erratic start to the season under new manager Steve Settle, a series of good results from September onwards saw the club rise up the table eventually finishing in a record 5th place. The major highlight of the season had to be the record breaking 15-1 FA Vase win over Dinnington Town, this being the highest ever win both in the Vase as a competition and by any NWCFL club throughout history. Progression was also made off the field with new facilities at Hardy Farm opened by local MP Jeff Smith. Plans were also made to expand the clubhouse and spectator facilities at Brookburn Road. The season was to have a sad end with the death of club secretary Rob Turley, a man who had been involved with West Didsbury & Chorlton for over 40 years. But with a strong volunteer base and progress being made on and off the field, the club is in safe hands with a bright future ahead. 2016/17 saw the club finished in 6th place but finished with both a record points total and number of goals scored notching 106 league goals. The club also saw a record average attendance as almost 5,000 people attended matches at Brookburn Road with a club record 674 in attendance for the South Manchester Derby against Maine Road. In cup competitions West entered the Manchester Premier Cup defeating Radcliffe Borough and Glossop North End en-route to facing FC United of Manchester in the Semi Final’s which saw more than 200 West supporters travel to Broadhurst Park before West bowed out to the eventual winners. 23. The Bank Holiday Weekend of football continues with a trip to Charnock Richard on Monday afternoon. It’s our second visit to Mossie Park in eight days, we were beaten in the FA Cup last Saturday, after a late winner from Charnock Richard’s Luke Power in added time saw the Lancastrians into the next round. You can watch the highlights from that game below: Saturday saw us get back to winning ways in the league with a 2-1 win against Cheadle Town, Harry Brazel & Lewis Gilboy were on the scoresheet for Andy Welsh’s side. Harry Brazel spoke after Saturday’s fixture about how important it was to get the three points: All your pre-match information is available below. In Opposition – Charnock Richard In 1933 the Chorley Sunday League became the Chorley Alliance League and a Charnock Richard village team was entered, but on the outbreak of the Second World War the league and team were temporarily suspended. At the end of the War, in 1945, the Chorley Alliance League was reformed along with Charnock Richard F.C. The team proved to be a tremendous success, eventually winning the league title in the 1947-48 season, losing only two games, and scoring 107 goals. This success prompted them to try and run two teams, but they ran into difficulties and the club closed at the end of the 1948-49 season. In 1955, under the leadership of Ron Wilcox, the present club was reformed, and once again played in the Chorley Alliance League. Charnock progressed to the North West Counties League in 2016-17 after finishing as runners-up in the West Lancashire League in the previous season and won promotion to the Premier Division of the NWCL in the first season when finishing runners up in Division 1. In the 21-22 season the club won the North West Counties League, League Challenge Cup. Last season, Charnock finished 11th in NWCFL Premier Division.
